Henry M. Patenaude

RYE - Henry M. "Mike" Patenaude, of Clearwater, Fla., and Rye, formerly of Tewksbury, Mass., died Tuesday, May 8, 2001.

He was the beloved husband of S. Regina (Sullivan) Patenaude. Devoted father of Regina L. Whitnell of Tewksbury, Edward G. Patenaude and his wife Anne of Rye, Thomas M. Patenaude and his wife Peggy of Andover, Mass., Theresa M. Riel and her husband Bud of Ipswich, Mass., Janice A. Stanton and her husband Richard of Belmont, Mass., David M. Patenaude and his wife Cheryl of Hudson, N.H., and Michael P. Patenaude and his wife Gail of Tewksbury. Brother of Yvette Lepine, Alice Roy, Lorraine Blaha and Ella LaRoche, all of Florida, and the late Ruby LaRoche and Mary Jane Hamel. Also survived by 18 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a charter member of the Tewksbury Veterans Association, a member of the Wilmington-Tewksbury Lodge of Elks and the Wilmington-Tewksbury VFW.

PATENAUDE - Henry M. "Mike" Patenaude of Clearwater, Fla., and Rye, formerly of Tewksbury, Mass., died May 8, 2001. Funeral will be at 9 a.m. on Friday from the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. in St. William's Church, Main Street (Route 38), Tewksbury. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday). Interment will be in Tewksbury Cemetery. Contributions in his memory to the Portsmouth Home Health Hospice Services, 95 Albany St., Portsmouth, NH 03801, would be appreciated.

KAHARL - Josephine Chevalier Casey Kaharl, 88, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of North Hampton, died Oct. 9, 2000. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2001, in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

Mrs. Eleanor P. (Isaacson) Callanan

YORK, Maine - Funeral services for Mrs. Eleanor P. (Isaacson) Callanan, 84, of 90 Riverwood Drive, were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, N.H., on Tuesday. The Rev. Jill Vogt, pastor of the First Congregational Church in Kittery Point, officiated.

Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery in Dover, N.H., with committal services by the Rev. David Slater, pastor of the Congregational Church in Dover.

Mrs. Pauline G. (McNeil) Guyett

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline G. (McNeil) Guyett, 81, of 928 South St., were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, on Thursday. The Rev. Dawn Shippee, pastor of the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth, officiated. A reading was given by Wendy Collins.

In attendance were representative from the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.

Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Shippee.

Bearers were Dan O'Reilly, Jared Terrio, James Collins, Dave Eddy, Steve Lilakos and Jeff Terrio.

Katharine Woodworth

KITTERY, Maine - Katharine Woodworth, 80, of Dana Avenue, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at York Hospital.

Born on July 18, 1921, in Calis, Vt., she was a daughter of Charles M. and Marjorie Haskins King and attended local schools. She was a member of the last class of graduating students from Woodbury, Vt., High School before its name was changed.

She and her husband Donald were married in 1939, and moved to Kittery a short time later to raise their family. Mrs. Woodworth owned and operated Kay's Tailor Shop in downtown Portsmouth, N.H., for many years. She enjoyed her work, continuing sewing at home for many years.

She is survived by her sons, Lane Woodworth and Mace Woodworth, both of Kittery; a brother, Kenneth King of Woodbury, Vt.; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Woodworth of Rochester, N.H., Shirley and Jack Renner of Dover, N.H., and Elaine Derry of Burke, Vt.; two great-grand-children; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband and a brother, Bernard King.

WOODWORTH - Katharine Woodworth, 80, of Dana Avenue, Kittery, Maine, died May 8, 2001, at York Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 14, 2001, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, US Route 1 Bypass, Kittery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME 03904.

Mr. David Nickerson Sr.

ELIOT, Maine - Mr. David Nickerson Sr., 83, of Eliot, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, following a long illness at the Harbor Home in York.

He was born Jan. 21, 1918, in Arlington, Mass., the son of the late Albert M. and Edna Mae (Adams) Nickerson. He attended local schools and then enlisted in the Army, where he served his country proudly during World War II as a bombardier in the Army Airborne. He was discharged from the Army as a first lieutenant.

After the service, Mr. Nickerson worked in sales, having sold life insurance. He worked for 15 years as a hotel manager with the Susse Chalet Hotel chain.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed horseback riding and at one time owned a couple of racehorses that ran at Suffolk Downs in Massachusetts. He also at one time raised chinchillas and was a former president of the National Association of Chinchilla Breeders.

He was also a former Mason. He loved to spend hours watching T.V. but most of all loved his family.

He married his longtime sweetheart, the former Eleanor Blomberg, who predeceased him in October of 1993.

He is survived by two sons, David A. Nickerson Jr. of York and Mark Nickerson of Eliot; and a daughter, Joyce Niesner of Old Orchard Beach.

Mr. Nickerson will be missed a lot by his five cherished grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Diana Phillips-Bardwell, who died in September of 1993.

He was also predeceased by his sister, Dorothy, and his brother, Harold.

There will be no funeral services or visitation hours. A private burial with full military honors will take place Monday in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield, Mass.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.

Alice K. Davis

KITTERY, Maine - Alice K. Davis, 79, of Remicks Lane, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at her home.

Born in Concord, N.H., on Nov. 19, 1921, she was a daughter of Percy A. and Alice (Gilson) Kilmister and attended local schools. She was a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University, majoring in education. After college she taught at Seaside High School in Waterford, Conn., a school which provided a high school education to those afflicted with tuberculosis.

She married Jeremy H. Davis in 1947 and accompanied him to several locations while he was enlisted in the service. They spent several years in Webster, N.H., where she was active in the school PTA and as a room mother for her children's classes. She was also a part of the committee that worked to save the covered bridge in Webster.

In 1955, she and her family moved to Remicks Lane in Kittery, where she continued to be active in school volunteering, working in the lunch rooms at Shapleigh and Frisbee schools. She was a Girl Scout leader and a substitute teacher for the Kittery School system for many years. She also volunteered for the Meals On Wheels program here in Kittery. She was an avid bird lover - feeding, watching and enjoying them. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed flower gardening.

Her first love was most certainly her family; as a giving and understanding person, she will be remembered as a wonderful caregiver to many.

She is survived by her children, daughters Ruth and Richard Puleo of Belmont, N.H., Pamela Davis of Bedford, N.H., Mary Costello, of Memphis, Tenn., Rebecca and Philip Mueller of Galway, N.Y., and Laura and Kenneth Nadon of Franklin, N.H.; her son and his wife, Jeremy and Karen Davis of Kittery; a brother, Phillip M. Kilmister of Augusta; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband; a brother, Paul Kilmister; and a sister, Nancy Johnson.

DAVIS - Alice K. Davis, 79, of Remicks Lane, Kittery, Maine, died May 9, 2001, at her home. A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, May 12, 2001, at 11 a.m., from the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, US Route 1 Bypass, Kittery. Donations may be made in her memory to the York Visiting Nurses Association, 42 Brickyard Lane, York, ME 03909. Arrangements are by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME 03904.

Amanda L. Francis

NORTH HAMPTON - The funeral for Amanda L. Francis, 25, of 93 Mill Road, who died May 7, 2001, was held Thursday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach. The Rev. Maurice Lavigne, pastor, was the celebrant.

Judith Kish was organist and pianist. Mary Louise Arcidi was cantor and soloist. David Duggan was altar server. The readings were offered by Thomas Lambert, Abby Russell and Thomas Russell. The gifts were presented to the altar by Molly Russell and Lisa Manchester. The eulogy was offered by Amanda's uncle, William Russell.

Honorary pallbearers were Lisa Manchester, Abby Russell, Molly Russell, Tyler Russell, Emily Lambert and Shannon Hollingworth. Active pallbearers were Bruce Philbrick, Rick Melhorn, Michael Melhorn, Eric Cloutier, Robert Gagnon and Doug Weismann.

Cremation followed the funeral Mass. The Rite of Committal was conducted Friday morning in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton, by Father Lavigne. Balloons were released by Amanda's family and friends at the conclusion of the committal service.

R. Evelyn Eaton

SEABROOK - The funeral for R. Evelyn Eaton, 92, of 2 Main St., who died May 8, 2001, was held Friday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory in Hampton. Pastor Ted McCurdy of the Rand Memorial Church in Seabrook officiated. Nelson K. Ward was organist. A reading was offered by Sandra Brown.

Burial followed in the Bay View Cemetery, Bowdoinham, Maine, with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Ronald McLaughlin, pastor of the Topsham, Maine, Baptist Church.

Emma M. Boyd

RYE - The funeral for Emma M. Boyd of Rye was held Friday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. Services were conducted at the Rye Congregational Church. The Rev. John Solie, pastor, officiated. Organist was Donna Lewallen. Words of remembrance were offered by John T. Boyd and John Ward.

Burial followed in the Central Cemetery with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Solie. Pallbearers were Mark Lentz, Dennis Lentz, John Ward, Jay Ward, John Boyd and Dan Demers.

Kenneth M. Harkin

NORTH HAMPTON - Kenneth M. Harkin, 39, of 41 Hobbs Road, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at his residence.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1961, in Weymouth, Mass., the son of the late John E. and Priscilla R. (Gionet) Harkin.

He lived in Weymouth for most of his life and was a graduate of Braintree High School. He and his wife had resided in North Hampton for the past eight years.

He worked at the University of New Hampshire in the Facilities Department. Prior to that he owned and operated a courier company in the Seacoast area for several years, Felix Express Inc.

He loved spending time at his family cottage in Casco, Maine, and he was an avid New England sports fan.

He was the husband of Robin L. (Lewis) Harkin.

In addition to his wife, family members include one daughter, Samantha J. McKenna of Whitman, Mass.; two brothers, Michael J. Harkin of Weymouth, Mass., and Paul F. Harkin of Rockland, Mass.; four sisters, Kathie Slattery of Exeter, Pauline Sullivan of Townsend, Mass., Suzanne Pry of West Townsend, Mass., and Claudia Harkin of Plaistow, N.H., and many nieces and nephews.

HARKIN - Kenneth M. Harkin, 39, of 41 Hobbs Road, North Hampton, died Friday, May 11, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Theresa Church, Central Road, Rye Beach, on Monday, May 14, 2001, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, on Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Robert E. Dolph

DOVER - Robert E. Dolph, 69, of 108 Grove St., died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at his residence after a brief illness.

Born April 26, 1932, he was the son of James and Anna Katherine (Riekert) Dolph.

He graduated from Dover High School, Class of 1950. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served aboard the USS Vulcan (AR5) during the Korean War.

He was employed as a Dover police officer for 10 years and recently retired from the Department of Defense Police as a lieutenant at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

He was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Moses Paul Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. His hobbies were his family and his home.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Doris (Brooks) Dolph of Dover; a son, James E. Dolph and his wife, Bonnie, of South Berwick, Maine; and four grandchildren, Miranda, Mallory, Adam and Abigail.

DOLPH - Robert E. Dolph, 69, of 108 Grove St., Dover, died May 10, 2001. Public visiting will be held from noon to 1 p.m. today (Saturday), at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Pine Hill Cemetery at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to the American Cancer Society, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-4059; or a local Hospice Foundation.

Alice Bonenfant

WAIKIKI, Hawaii - Alice Bonenfant, born Alice Keahola of Waikiki, died on Thursday, May 10, 2001.

Born on Sept. 2, 1929, she was the loving wife of the late Norman E. Bonenfant, who died in 1985.

She was the dedicated mother of seven children: Norman Bonenfant and Debbie Schad of Manitowoc, Wis., Terri and Walter Bickford of Seabrook, N.H., Debbie and Jerry Day of Plainfield, Conn., Wayne and Diane Bonenfant of Epping, N.H., Michelle and Gary Geoffrion of Center Strafford, N.H., Danny and Carol Bonenfant of Epping, N.H., and Janice Bonenfant and Charles Mooney of Cornish, N.H.

Alice was the model of inspiration to her 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren whether as a relative, friend or mentor. It was as a professional hula dancer for the Honolulu Airport and Cruise Line that Alice danced for talents such as John Wayne, Don Ho and Jimmy Stewart. It was as a talented gardener that Alice kept anything she touched beautiful. Upon moving to New Hampshire, she maintained both through Hawaiian performances in Newmarket and her many gardens in Epping.

She also worked for Kingston Warren and the Rockingham County Nursing Home while enjoying hobbies of crafts and intricately crocheted afghans. Among all of the people whose lives Alice touched, her close friends were Kathleen Gaudette, Ada Dionne, Marquette Jean and Nancy Bateman.

Wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, remarkable woman - she will be missed by all of those whose lives she touched.

BONENFANT - Alice Bonenfant of Waikiki, Hawaii, died May 10, 2001. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 13, 2001, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 14, 2001, at 2 p.m., at St. Joseph Church, Epping. The Rev. Ronald Corriveau will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice in her memory.

Alfred C. "Freddy" Messina

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Alfred C. "Freddy" Messina, 82, of 4 High Knoll Drive, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Varney Crossing Nursing Care Center, North Berwick, following a long illness.

Born in Lawrence, Mass., Jan. 3, 1919, he was the son of Salvatore and Maria Giacona Messina.

He was raised in Lawrence and attended schools there. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the 482nd Bomb Squadron, 505th Group, in the 20th Air Force in the Marina Islands. He flew on 22 combat missions over Japan.

He was co-founder of Columbia Auto Seat Covering in Lawrence. After that he owned and operated Columbia Upholstery of Kittery for 30 years.

He was a resident of South Berwick since 1986, previously residing in Kittery.

He was a member of the Sons of Italy, the American Legion and the Loyal Order of Elks.

Family members include his wife, M. Juanita Boyle Messina of South Berwick; three daughters, Marie O'Hagan and her husband Barry of North Andover, Mass., Michelle Messina of Sherbrooke, PQ, Canada, and Simone Woodyard and her husband Brad of Carmel Valley, Calif.; his wife's children, Patricia Thayer of South Berwick, Eileen Boyle of Dover, N.H., Mickey Boyle of Centerville, Va., Frank Boyle of Melrose, Mass., Dennis Boyle of Strafford, N.H., Kevin Boyle of Keene, N.H., and Brian Boyle of Kittery; two brothers, Ned Messina and his wife Regina of Lawrence, Mass., and Joseph Messina and his wife Marilyn of Andover, Mass.; one sister, Santina Giacona DiStefano of Catania, Sicily; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

MESSINA - Alfred C. "Freddy" Messina, 82, of High Knoll Drive, South Berwick, Maine, died May 10, 2001. Relatives and friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, and also Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Church, 404 High St., Somersworth, N.H. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence, Mass. Memorial donations may be made to Varney Crossing Nursing Care Center, 47 Elm St., North Berwick, ME 03906.
