Lorraine F. Dupuis

PORTSMOUTH - Lorraine F. "Lorrie" Dupuis, 79, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born April 5, 1922, in Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Celia (Gould) Johnson and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School in Lynn, Mass.

She held several secretarial positions, which included working for Ford Motor Co., Boeing, as a personal secretary for the Dunfey family, who formerly of Hampton, and later co-owned and operated the Flower Wagon in Hampton for several years. She also used her sewing abilities, working as a seamstress and doing alterations.

She was a communicant and former member of the choir at St. James Church. She also enjoyed ceramics and singing. Mrs. Dupuis resided here the past 35 years coming from Texas, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

She was the wife of the late Joseph Emery Dupuis, who died last April, for 58 years; and was predeceased by a daughter, Marie Ellen Dupuis, who died in 1998.

Family members include four sons, Emery J. Dupuis of Kinnelon, N.J., Oscar J. Dupuis of Oxford, Pa., Charles L. Dupuis of Wilmington, N.C., and Gerard J. Dupuis of Ashton, Pa.; two daughters, Celia M. Connors of Mullica Hill, N.J., and Alice M. Holding of Portsmouth; 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laura Rogers and Corrine Opie both of Lynn, Mass.; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

DUPUIS - Lorraine F. "Lorrie" Dupuis, 79, of Portsmouth, died May 30, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, at St. James Church, Portsmouth. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth.

Harlan E. Carter Sr.

NORTH HAMPTON - Harlan E. Carter Sr., 74, of Atlantic Avenue, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Exeter Hospital.

Born July 7, 1926, in North Hampton, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Lavinia (Marston) Carter.

He was educated in the North Hampton School and graduated from Hampton Academy with the Class of 1944.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Force from 1944 until 1946.

Mr. Carter was a mason, and worked in the trade for 38 years before eyesight became a problem.

In the town he loved, he spent many years as a volunteer firefighter, was a former member of the Budget Committee, and volunteered on many projects. He loved gardening and sharing his harvest with his family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, and even cutting wood to heat his home. He was a former member of the Abenaqui Country Club of Rye for many years.

He was a 50-year member of the Star in the East Lodge No. 59, St. Alban Chapter No. 15 R.A.M., and Olive Council R.S. M., all of Exeter; Dewitt Clinton Commandry of Portsmouth, and the Bektash Temple Shrine, Concord.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 7 of Rochester. Friends and family were his prized possession.

He was the husband of Shirley A. (Brown) Carter for 55 years.

In addition to his wife, family members include five children, P. Terry Carter of Newton, N.H., Sonja Hartl of San Francisco, Calif., Harlan E. Carter Jr. of San Mateo, Calif., Beverly Ann Teichs of Millington, Tenn., and Sherrie Lyn Thayer of Bakersfield, Vt.; one sister, Mabel C. Ashford of North Hampton; nine grandchildren, Robert Sakovich, Matthew Shannon, Erin Carter, Sarah Carter, Zachary Thayer, Paul Carter, Andrew Carter, Samantha Thayer and Benjamin Thayer; two great-grandchildren, Ella Sakovich Logan Shannon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one son, Robert Harry Carter, who died in 1959.

CARTER - Harlan E. Carter Sr., 74, of Atlantic Avenue, North Hampton, died May 29, 2001. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Private burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to either the Winnacunnet Scholarship Fund, 4 Alumni Drive, Hampton, NH 03842; or the Richie McFarland Children's Center, 11 Sandy Point Road, Stratham, NH 03885.

Robert D. Pare

PORTLAND, Maine - Robert D. "Bobby" Pare, 38, of Clinton Street, died Friday, May 25, 2001, in Portland, after a long illness.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H., he was the son of Albert A. and Elizabeth (Johnson) Pare Jr. He attended local schools and graduated from York High School. He also attended and graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

He worked as a computer engineer for the banking industry.

He enjoyed music, politics and the outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his two best friends, Tim Dyer and Betty Parker, as well as his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth DeCourcey of Portland, and his father of York Beach; two sisters, Kim Watson of Portland and Nancy Burton of North Yarmouth; a brother, Albert Pare III of Newbury, Mass.; and his paternal grandfather, Albert Pare Sr. of York Beach.

PARE - Robert D. "Bobby" Pare, 38, of Clinton Street, Portland, Maine, died May 25, 2001. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. There are no visiting hours. If desired, donations may be made to the Center for Grieving Children, 49 York St., Portland, ME 04101. Arrangements by the Conroy-Tully Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland.

Alma Desjardins

SIEGAS, New Brunswick - Alma Desjardins, 91, died on Friday, May 25, 2001, in Grand Falls, N.B., after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Desjardins, who was born Oct. 12, 1909, was the wife of the late Gilbert Desjardins and the mother of 15 children, including Hermel Desjardins of Exeter, N.H., Nelson Desjardins of Kittery, Maine, Albeo Desjardins of Greenland, N.H., and the late Roland Desjardins of Portsmouth, N.H.; 49 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 27 in Canada.

Margaret M. "Peg" Bertolini

YORK, Maine - Margaret M. "Peg" Bertolini, 92, formerly of Moseley Road, York Beach, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Sentry Hill Home.

She was born on May 25, 1909, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of William J. and Jennie (Bain) Fogerty.

Mrs. Bertolini was a registered nurse, graduating from the Butler School of Nursing in Providence. She also took graduate courses at the Yale School of Nursing in New Haven, Conn.

She moved to York Beach with her family in 1939 and became very active in community affairs. In 1959, she was presented with the V.F.W. Good Citizenship Award and accompanying medal by District 11 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, in recognition of her untiring efforts toward improvement of her community through her association with the York Girl Scout Program, the Parent-Teachers Association and the York Youth Center.

She resumed her nursing career after her family was grown and worked for many years at York Hospital, retiring in 1974.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Ernest E. Bertolini, who died in 1984.

Survivors include her son, Donald B. Bertolini and his wife, Ottilie of York; daughters, Mrs. Laurence E. (Jean) Brown of Denton, Md., and Mrs. Everett (Barbara) Kimball of York; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

BERTOLINI - Margaret M. "Peg" Bertolini, formerly of Moseley Road, York Beach, Maine, widow of Ernest E. Bertolini, died May 30, 2001, in York. A celebration of her life will be held for family and friends by invitation at a later date. Interment will be with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Joseph Bonsaint

KITTERY, Maine - A graveside committal service and burial for Joseph Bonsaint, 82, of Kittery, who died May 14, 2001, were held Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Orchard Grove Cemetery in Kittery. The Rev. Real Nadeau, parish priest at St. Raphael's Catholic Church of Kittery, recited committal prayers.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home of Kittery.

Meyer Silver

NORTH HAMPTON - Meyer Silver, 92, late of North Hampton and Pembroke Pines, Fla., died on Thursday, May 31, 2001, at the Seacoast Nursing Home in Hampton. He was the husband of the late Faye (Goff) Silver.

He was born in Salem, Mass., the son of the late Saul and Louby (Shapiro) Silver. He graduated from Beverly High School in Massachusetts.

He began his career by working with his father at Silver Supply of Salem and later established Silber's Wholesale Electrical Supply from 1952 to 1971. From 1960 to 1971, he was affiliated with Chelsea Wholesale Electric. He also worked with his wife and daughter, Cynthia Sontz, at Silver & Sontz Antiques of Hampton until 1994.

He was a member of Kernwood Country Club of Salem, Mass.; past president and member of Temple B'nai Abraham of Beverly, Mass.; and a Mason in the Henry Price Lodge.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Cynthia Sontz of Marblehead, Mass., and Mrs. Sandie Pearl of Danvers, Mass., and Deerfield Beach, Fla.; and a son, Paul Silver of Beverly, Mass.; a sister, Mrs. Skippy Fireman of Beverly; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

SILVER - Meyer Silver, late of North Hampton and Pembroke Pines, Fla., died May 31, 2001. Beloved husband of the late Faye (Goff) Silver; dear son of the late Saul and Louby (Shapiro) Silver; devoted father of Cynthia and Sidney Sontz of Marblehead, Mass., Sandie and Allen Pearl of Danvers, Mass., and Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Paul and Barbara Silver of Beverly, Mass.; loving brother of Skippy Fireman of Beverly, Mass., and the late Hyman and Raymond Silver. He was the uncle of Dora and the late Sam Simon of Miami Beach, Fla.; dear grandfather of Andrea and Barry Cohn, Marlene and Scott Conroy, Bradley and Rebecca Sontz, Holly and Derek Sontz, Dale and Dana DeStefano, Wendy and Gerard Hetu, Ronda and Keith Krieg, Tracy and Todd Lloyd, Erica and Shane Adkins; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Temple B'nai Abraham, 200 East Lothrop St., Beverly, Mass., on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. A memorial observance through Tuesday evening will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Pearl, 6 Centre St., Danvers, Mass. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be donated to the charity of your choice. The interment will follow at Sons of Abraham Cemetery, Beverly, Mass. Arrangements by the Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapels, Salem, Mass.

David Soucy

DOVER - David Soucy, 45, of 440 F Sixth St., died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the New England Medical Center in Boston, Mass., after a long battle with liver disease.

Born June 23, 1955, he was the son of Paul and Beverly Soucy. He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and had lived in Dover for the past two years.

David was a self-employed trucker and a captain of two teams in the APA Pool League.

Along with his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Silvia Soucy of Dover; three sisters, Catherine Sanner of Maine, Paula Soucy of Massachusetts and Mary Poala of New Hampshire; two sons, Matthew Soucy and Jonathan Soucy, both of Milton; two daughters, Jennifer Soucy and Kimberly Soucy, both of Milton; three stepchildren, Bobbi and Melissa Elliott of Rochester and Jamie Elliott of Newmarket; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

SOUCY - David Soucy, 45, of Sixth Street, Dover, died on May 30, 2001. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Sanbornville, N.H.

Mrs. Priscilla (Evitts) Poor

PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Priscilla (Evitts) Poor, 82, the wife of William G. Poor, of 3205 Lafayette Road, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at her home.

Born in Revere, Mass., on Jan. 21, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Alton H. and Florence L. (Dunham) Evitts.

She was a graduate of Winthrop High School, Winthrop, Mass., Class of 1936.

She was married to William on March 16, 1940, at the First Baptist Church in Winthrop. They had three children, Robert A., Martha E., and William G. Jr., and moved to Portsmouth in 1957.

She worked at the "Canteen" and Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. She was a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for many years in the Portsmouth school system and the Portsmouth Police Department.

She was a member of the Middle Street Baptist Church in Portsmouth and the Rivermouth Chapter No. 54, Order of the Eastern Star, holding the office of marshal.

She is survived by her husband, William; a son, Robert A. and his wife, June, of Berwick, Maine; a daughter, Martha E. and her husband, Ken Petruzzi, of Portsmouth; and a son, William G. Jr. and his wife, Kristine, of Derry; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

POOR - Mrs. Priscilla (Evitts) Poor, 82, of 3205 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, died May 31, 2001. Memorial services will be held at the Middle Street Baptist Church, 18 Court St., Portsmouth, on Sunday at 3 p.m. Friends invited. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Middle Street Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 18 Court St., Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements by the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel.

Katharine M. Melia

HAMPTON FALLS - Katharine M. Melia, 80, of 33 Weare Road, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at her home.

Born Dec. 30, 1920, in Amesbury, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Rodna) Stefanski.

She was raised in Amesbury and was a graduate of Amesbury High School. She worked for the Harrison Reynolds Co. in Newton, Mass., for several years, and later was a self-employed seamstress. She lived in Hampton Falls since 1953.

She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Exeter.

Family members include two sons, Martin E. Melia of Hampton Falls and Kevin M. Melia of New Hampshire; two grandchildren; one brother, Walter Stefanski of Haverhill, Mass.; one sister, Helen Benulis of Boxford, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

MELIA - Katharine M. Melia of 33 Weare Road, Hampton Falls, died on May 31, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Michael's Church, Front Street, Exeter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in the Exeter Cemetery.

Jeffrey H. Lee

STORY, Wyo. - Jeffrey H. Lee, 47, of Story, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the hospital in Buffalo of injuries from a motorcycle accident.

Born Feb. 19, 1954, in Topeka, Kan., he was the son of Harold and Shirley (Bautz) Lee.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Exeter, N.H. He attended the University of New Hampshire. He lived in several different states before coming to Casper, Wyo. He moved to Story in 1999.

He worked as an outfitter, owning and operating Wyoming Whitetail Hunts. When he was younger he enjoyed skydiving and scuba diving. He also enjoyed hunting and motorcycle riding.

He was predeceased by his brother, Larry.

Survivors include four sons, Sampson of Story, Nathan of Stratham, N.H., and Joshua and Jonah of Sheridan, Wyo.; the love of his life, Iris Hehn and her children, Jessica and Jereme; his parents, Harold and Shirley Lee of Eliot, Maine; two brothers, Gary and Darren of York, Maine; a sister, Holly Plourde of Eliot, Maine; one grandson, Zachary; and many nieces and nephews.

LEE - Jeffrey H. Lee, 47, of Story, Wyo., died May 26, 2001. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Friday) in Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn, Wyo., with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. If desired, memorials may be made to the Jeffrey Lee Memorial Fund for his children, c/o of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801. Arrangements under the direction of the Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

SWEET - William "Bill" Sweet, of Greenland, died May 31, 2001. The family requests that no flowers be sent and prefers all gifts and donations be sent to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032 in his name. There will be no calling hours, but a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Bethany Church on Breakfast Hill Road, in Greenland. The burial services will be a family service only. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel.
