Calvin Taylor

KITTERY, Maine - A Mass of Christian burial for Calvin Taylor who died June 11, 2001, was held on Thursday, June 14, 2001, from St. Raphael's Church in Kittery, with the visiting Rev. Father Alfred Jacques officiating, along with the Rev. Father Real Nadeau. The parish was led in song by organist Alfred Lapointe and the church choir. The cross bearer for the service was Philip Sousa. The service continued at the Orchard Grove Cemetery where the Rev. Father Jacques offered blessings and a committal. Musical offerings were sung by Mr. Taylor's granddaughter Tina Palchat and friends. The United States Navy offered a 21-gun salute and presented Mrs. Ethel Taylor with the veterans memorial flag. All were invited back to St. Raphael's for a time of sharing and remembrance. Services were under the direction of the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Chester A. "Chet" Boyce

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. - Chester A. "Chet" Boyce, 70, of 2967 South Atlantic Ave., No. 1503, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in Spokane, Wash., while visiting family.

Born in Eliot, Maine, he moved to central Florida in 1969. Up until his passing, he was a certified general contractor and owner of Boyce Construction Corp., and a licensed real estate broker and owner of Boyce Realty & Management.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of New Smyrna Beach; Bahia Temple and Scottish Rite of Orlando; Elk's Lodge of New Smyrna Beach; Blue Lodge of Kittery, Maine; and the Homebuilder's Association of Volusia County.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley J. Boyce; a son, Michael C. Boyce of Orlando; daughters, Jacqueline B. Mellor and Jeanne Boyce-Taylor, both of Longwood, and Debra H. Boyce of St. Petersburg; grandsons, Brandon Mellor, Cameron Mellor and Dylan Mellor, all of Longwood; sisters, Eleanor Lunn of Cloverdale, Ore., and Helen Shilko of Eliot; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Oscar F. and Helen M. Boyce and his three brothers Walter, Richard O. and William E. Boyce.

BOYCE - Chester A. "Chet" Boyce, 70, of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., died Saturday, May 26, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 22 from the Eliot Congregational Church, State Road, Eliot, Maine.

Ida B. Randall

MADBURY - Ida B. Randall, 83, formerly of 5 Fitch Road, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at St. Ann Home, Dover, after a period of failing health.

Born June 24, 1917 in Pawtucket, R.I., she was the daughter of James A. and Mary E. (Robinson) Milligan.

She raised her family in Lee and Dover and was owner/operator of the 125 Family Restaurant of Lee, during the late 1960s.

She was a member of the First Parish Church, Congregational of Dover and active in Homemakers of the First Parish Church, a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years, a member of the Jeremiah Smith Grange and Pomona in Lee, Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls, member of Cocheco Country Club for over 50 years, member of the New Hampshire Farm Bureau, Woodman Institute and St. Thomas Guild. She was affiliated with Wentworth-Douglass Hospital for over 50 years and was a founder of the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Auxiliary.

The widow of John L. Randall Jr., who died in 1976, she is survived by a son, Jack Randall of Lee; two daughters, Ruth Clark of Westchester, Pa. and Barbara Randall of Madbury; one sister, Dorothy I. Gleason of North Kingstown, R.I.; a sister-in-law, Doris Conde of New York; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Lowell Milligan, Alva Milligan and James Milligan.

RANDALL - Ida B. Randall, 83, formerly of 5 Fitch Road, Madbury, died June 14, 2001. Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 17 at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Ervin, pastor, St. Thomas Episcopal Church and the Rev. Thomas Coover, chaplain, St. Ann Home, officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1001 Elm St., Manchester, N.H. 03101, or to St. Ann Home, 195 Dover Point Road, Dover, N.H. 03820.

Dorothy Ellis Neal

PORTSMOUTH - Dorothy Ellis Neal, formerly of Portsmouth, passed away Friday, June 15, 2001, at the Meriman House on North Conway.

Born July 14, 1905 in Keene, she was the daughter of Fannie Whitcomb and Edwin A. Ellis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil M. Neal, a former mayor of Portsmouth, and a son, John, of Enfield, N.H.

She graduated from Keene Normal School and taught Domestic Arts at the Portsmouth Junior High School. She was a home demonstrator for the Portsmouth Gas Co., and later was head of school food services for Portsmouth and the state.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy N. Charles of Intervale, N.H.; two sisters, Hannah E. Adams of Harlingen, Texas and Lucy E. Dockham of Portsmouth and Zephyrhills, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 16, at Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association, N.H. Chapter, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord, NH 03301.

Harry Willis

ELIOT, Maine - A graveside committal service was held Sunday, June 10, 2001, for Harry Willis, who died Jan. 6, 2001. The service was held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot, with the Rev. Ron Messer officiating. In attendance were members of Mr. Willis' family, friends and members of the United States Marine Corps. The veteran memorial flag was presented to Mrs. Lois Willis by the United States Marine Corps representative and taps was played by Eric and Tim Janousek. Services were under the direction of the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

SEAGREN - Nancy J. Seagren, of 19 Walbach St., New Castle, died May 25, 2001. A memorial service (celebration of life) will be held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, in the Bethany Church, 500 Breakfast Hill Road, Greenland. It is her wish that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Nancy J. Seagren Fund to benefit her charitable interests in the Seacoast, including services for children and animals. Such donations should be directed to the Greater Piscataqua Community Foundation, 446 Market St., Portsmouth, N.H. 03801. Assisting with the arrangements was the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Caroline S. Spinney

ELIOT, Maine - Caroline S. Spinney, 92, of Main Street, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at York Hospital.

Born in Kittery on Dec. 9, 1908, she was a daughter of Edwin and Ethel (Staples) Blaisdell. She attended Kittery schools for a time before moving to Eliot and attending schools there. She graduated from Eliot High School, and then attended Portsmouth Normal School, where she received her teachers training.

She and her husband for more than 71 years, Reginald I. Spinney Sr., operated the Reginald I. Spinney Construction Co. in Eliot. She maintained the office aspect of the business, ensuring the books and other necessary paperwork were always in order.

She attended and was active in the South Eliot United Methodist Church, enjoying close friendships with many of the parishioners in the Ladies Circle and other groups within the church.

She was a member of the Ladies Forum in Eliot. She enjoyed playing the violin, sewing and cooking, and was accomplished in all of them.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her sons, Reginald I. Spinney Jr. and his wife Dorothy Sutton Spinney of Groton, Conn., and Brian Spinney and his wife Norma Jean Spinney of Eliot; grandchildren, Carolyn Simmonds, Kathryn Sullivan, Susan Drew, Elaine Devirgilio, Park S. Spinney, Donna L. Tice, Michael Spinney and Kevin N. Spinney; 10 great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law Irene Spinney.

She was predeceased by her son, Stephen M. Spinney, and her sister, Gertrude Blaisdell.

SPINNEY - Caroline S. Spinney, 92, of Main Street, Eliot, Maine, died on June 16, 2001, at York Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, from the Eliot United Methodist Church on Route 236 in Eliot. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 18, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/ Route 1 Bypass, Kittery, Maine. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to the Maine Alzheimer's Association, 163 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101-2406. Arrangements are by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home.

Kitty F. Cameron

EXETER - Kitty F. Cameron, 97, of Exeter, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Exeter Hospital.

Born on Sept. 12, 1903, in Benbecula Outer Hebrides, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Mary (MacPherson) MacRae.

She was the wife of the late Duncan Cameron, a retired captain with the New York Police Department, who died in 1960.

She resided in New York City for most of her life, moving to Portsmouth in 1990 from East Rutherford, N.J.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary S. Cameron, of Exeter.

CAMERON - Kitty F. Cameron, 97, of Exeter, died June 16, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Friends are respectfully invited and may call from 7 to 9 this evening (Monday) and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.

Mildred L. Haggerty

FALMOUTH, Maine - Mildred L. Haggerty, 82, formerly of Waltham, Mass., and Hampton, N.H., died on Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth.

She was born on May 25, 1919, in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston, the daughter of the late Charles and Lorraine (Savage) McLaughlin.

She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a corporal. She worked many years as a switchboard operator for New England Telephone in the Manchester, N.H., office; from 1965 to 1969 for the Federal Aviation Administration in Nashua, N.H.; and from 1969 to 1981 for the Army Corps of Engineers in Waltham, Mass.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hampton, American Legion Post No. 35 of Hampton, and a former member of the Coffey American Legion Post in Nashua. She enjoyed gardening and painting with oils.

She resided in Nashua from 1952 to 1971; in Waltham from 1971 to 1981, when she moved to Hampton; and had been a resident of Sedgewood Commons since 1998.

She was the wife of the late Francis J. Haggerty, who died in 1999.

Survivors include one son, Denis Drobinski of South Portland; two daughters, Lynda L. Worcester of Northwood, N.H., and Denissa Drobinski of Stratham, N.H.; one grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

HAGGERTY - Mildred L. Haggerty, 82, formerly of Waltham, Mass., and Hampton, N.H., died June 17, 2001, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, Maine. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Kitty F. Cameron

EXETER - Kitty F. Cameron, 97, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Exeter Hospital.

Altaruth K. Bullard

HAMPTON - Altaruth Kimball Bullard, 91, formerly of Manchester and Suncook died on June 16, 2001, at Seacoast Health Care Center in Hampton.

Mrs. Bullard was born on Jan. 21, 1910, in Hooksett, the daughter of the late John S. and Hedvig (Johnson) Kimball. She was a native of Hooksett and was a graduate of Pembroke Academy. She lived in the area until moving to the Seacoast Health Center in Hampton in 1987. She had a life-long career in the food industry and retired from the food service department of New Hampshire Insurance Co. in 1972. She was a parishioner of the Congregational Church of Hooksett, the Hooksett Grange and the Pansy Rebecca Lodge. Mrs. Bullard was the widow of George E. Bullard who died in 1971.

Survivors include two nieces, Karin Breen of Hampton and Brenda Berry of Hampton Falls; and her cousins, Dorothy Smyrl of Gilford, Ethel Webster of Laconia, Barbara Cantara of Concord, Pauline Langley of Barre, Vt., Marilyn Champagne of Concord and Allan Kimball of Bow. She was predeceased by her sister, Gladys K. Fellows.

Ann V. Markham

LOWELL, Mass. - Ann V. (Rynne) Markham, 95, a retired Lowell, Mass., kindergarten teacher, and a resident of Lowell and Seabrook Beach, died Monday morning, June 18, 2001, at Saints Memorial Medical Center.

She was the wife of the late Edwin Sullivan Markham; the mother of Edwin S. and Barbara A. (McArdle) Markham of Seabrook, and of Peter R. Markham of Lowell and Seabrook Beach; the grandmother of Stephen and Lee-Anne (Landry) Markham of Chelmsford, Mass., David M. and Jill (Leary) Markham, D.M.D., of Chelmsford, and Maryann and William Gilet Jr., of North Chelmsford; and the great-grandmother of Erika Renee Markham, Avery Michael Markham and Katherine Ann Gilet. She is also survived by two nieces, a nephew and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

MARKHAM - Ann V. (Rynne) Markham, 95, of Lowell, Mass., and Seabrook Beach, died Monday, June 18, 2001. A funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday from the Mahoney Funeral Home, 187 Nesmith St. (Rte. 38), Lowell. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, Lowell. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Ann V. Markham Scholarship Fund; c/o Washington Savings Bank, 30 Middlesex St., Lowell, MA 01852. Janice A. Picard

ST. ALBANS, Vt. - Mrs. Janice A. Picard, 63, died Thursday morning, June 14, 2001, at the home of her daughter Becky, following an extended illness, with her loving family at her side.

She was born in Portsmouth, Jan. 1, 1938, daughter of the late Robert P. and Ruth Irish Levesque Hutchins. She was employed in the dietary department of Kerbs Memorial Hospital and was assistant steward at the Champlain Country Club. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #1.

She is survived by her husband, Vernard R. Picard, whom she married on April 1, 1955. She is also survived by three sons, Vance R. Picard, Victor and his wife Mindy Picard of St. Albans, Vt., Timothy and his wife Brenda Picard of Atlanta, Ga.; six daughters and their spouses, Rebecca and Chris Bean, Susan and Tony Dutkiewicz, Vera and Carlo Corbeil, all of St. Albans, Pamela J. Picard of Bartow, Fla., Linda and Steve Longley of Highgate, Vt., Debbie and Gary Reynolds of Watanga, Tex.; 28 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four sisters, Virginia Morin and Beverly Fury of Portsmouth, N.H., Barbara Barron of New Castle, N.H., Patricia Emery of Albany, N.Y.; five brothers, Robert Levesque of Lady Lake, Fla., Ramon Levesque of New Castle, N.H., Richard Levesque of Portsmouth, N.H., Donald Levesque of Stratham, N.H., and Barrie Levesque of N.H.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 16, 2001 in the Brady and Levesque Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Picard family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery.

Alfred A. Lyczak

RYE - Alfred A. Lyczak, of 370 Wallis Road, passed away Monday, June 18, 2001, after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 23, 1914, in Burlington, N.J., the son of Jon and Anna (Pac) Lyczak.

Mr. Lyczak served in Harbor Defense for the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard after 44 years of service.

He was a communicant of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Rye Beach. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, and bowling.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Weeks) Lyczak; a son, John Lyczak and his wife Sandra of York, Maine; a daughter, Deborah Curran and her husband Michael of Dover; daughter-in-law, Anne Lyczak of Portsmouth; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his son Richard Lyczak in 1994.

LYCZAK - Alfred A. Lyczak, of 370 Wallis Road, Rye, passed away June 18, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, at St. Theresa Church, 815 Central Road, Rye Beach. Graveside services will follow at Central Cemetery in Rye. There will be no visiting hours prior to the services. Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth.

George W. Starr

ELIOT, Maine - George Wesley Starr, 74, of Leach Road, died June 18, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born on Oct. 8, 1926, in Elmira, N.Y., he was the son of Harry and Violet (Rankor) Shank.

He was a retired member of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served as a cook and a troubleshooter while overseas.

He was married to Carol (Burroughs) Starr in 1956. After his last military station, in Quantico, Va., they settled in Eliot and have made it their home for over 32 years.

Very active in the community, he was known to many for his efforts in the American Legion, cooking, presenting awards at town meetings and at the senior awards ceremonies at the local high school.

He was past commander a member for many years of the Eliot/Kittery American Legion Post #188 and the Kittery/Eliot Veterans of Foreign Wars post as well as the Disabled American Veterans. He owned and operated George's Sharpening Service in Eliot for many years at his home on Leach Road. He was an avid bowler at the ABC Bowling League, the Wednesday Night Mix and the Thursday Sr. Bowling league, all at Bowl USA.

He was a well known cook for a number of years at many local restaurants, including Warren's Lobster House, Howell's Truck Stop, Café Pare and Peter Pan Pancake House. He also worked for a number of years at MacDaniels Corner Store in Eliot.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; their children, William and his wife, Mary Starr, of Danville, Pa., Jay and Angela Starr of Nottingham, and Jeanne Bands and her husband, Russell, of Salem, Ore.; and three sisters, Patricia Koots, Mary Prosseda and Elicia (Tish) Bridge, all of Danville, Pa.

STARR - George W. Starr, 74, of Leach Road in Eliot, Maine, died June 18, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2001, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, U.S. Route 1 Bypass, Kittery, Maine. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 7320 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231, or to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road, N.E., Atlanta, GA 30329. Arrangements are by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, Kittery.
