Bette J. Thibeault

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Bette J. (Taylor) Thibeault, 61, of 3 Sanderson Ave., Greenland, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth on Monday, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. James Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. Agapit H. Jean Jr., pastor, was celebrant. Altar servers were Theresa Hickey, Jane Milette, Marion Greene and Richard Ward. Thomas Ahearn was lector. Presentation of gifts was made by Sandy White and Jillian Leon. Gospel reading was given by Deacon Phillip Enrico. Words of remembrance were given by Gabrille Jones. Readings were offered by former Portsmouth Mayor Eileen Foley and Roger Normand. Wendell Purrington was vocalist, Carolyn Morse Finn was soloist and Richard Gremlitz was organist.

In attendance were communicants of St. James Church and representatives from Portsmouth High School.

Burial was in Newington Cemetery, in Newington, with committal services by the Rev. Jean.

Bearers were Mary Carey Foley, Laurence Wentworth, Roger Normand, Wayne Lee, Scott Decker and Tim Niehart.

Wake services were held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel on Saturday afternoon by the Rev. Jean.

Theola P. Wallace

YORK HARBOR, Maine - Theola P. Wallace, formerly of Wichita, Kan., died at York Hospital on June 18, 2001.

She was born in Dewey County, Okla., on Sept. 10, 1922, the daughter of Tofel T. and Margaret (Newfelt) Brust.

She was employed as a meatpacker for the Safeway Corp. for 33 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Wallace.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Wallace, of York Harbor, and Doylene Rayl, of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Phillip Rayl, Bonnie Herman, Amy Hinds and Ben Rayl; and four great-grandchildren.

WALLACE - Theola P. Wallace, of York Harbor, Maine, formerly of Wichita, Kan., died June 18, 2001, in York. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday in the First Parish Cemetery, York. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are by Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home of York.

Ethel M. Newton

TAMPA, Fla. - Ethel M. Newton, 75, formerly of Portsmouth, New Castle and Hampton, died March 27, 2001, at her home following a long illness. Her husband, Ray, and children Rhonda Newton, of Madbury; Kevin Newton, of Portsmouth; and Karen Daskoski of Groton, Conn.; were at her side.

NEWTON - Ethel M. Newton, 75, formerly of Portsmouth, New Castle and Hampton, died March 27, 2001, at her home in Tampa, Fla. A memorial service will be held at the New Castle Congregational Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001. A reception will follow, and all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local hospice.

Arthur C. Labrie

HAMPTON - Arthur C. Labrie, 75, of 1 Malek Circle, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Exeter Hospital.

He was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Nashua, a son of the late Joseph and Helena (Labrie) Labrie.

He lived in Nashua for 48 years, having graduated from Nashua High School and Nashua Business School. He had lived in Hampton for the past 27 years.

He was employed as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Nashua and Exeter for over 30 years. After his retirement he worked for the Bureau of Turnpikes of the New Hampshire Department of Transportation as a toll collector at the Hampton toll booths. He was the owner of the Windsor House at Hampton Beach.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member and past commander of the National Catholic War Veterans formerly of Nashua and a member of the American Legion Post #32 of Exeter, and he enjoyed playing golf. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and a member of the Holy Name Society.

He was the husband of Doris M. (Maynard) Labrie and they had just celebrated 50 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, family members include two sons, Thomas A. Labrie of Washington state and Richard J. Labrie of Indiana; two daughters, Patricia A. Robinson of North Carolina and Nancy M. Parker of Texas; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Maurice Labrie of Nashua; two sisters, Jeanne Labrie and Julie Thibodeau, both of Nashua; and several nieces and nephews.

LABRIE - Arthur C. Labrie of 1 Malek Circle, Hampton, died June 18, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Our Lady of The Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery, Nashua.

John W. Duggan Sr.

SWANZEY CENTER, N.H. - John W. Duggan Sr., 79, of 28 Eaton Road, died at his home on Saturday evening after a period of failing health.

He was born in Arlington, Mass., on Nov. 13, 1921, the son of William F. and Ida (Anderson) Duggan.

Mr. Duggan grew up and attended schools in Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Duggan received the combat infantry badge and was the recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle.

He was the owner of the former E. Hammond and Son's Moving Company in Medford, Mass. Mr. Duggan has been a resident of Swanzey Center for the past sixteen years, having moved there from Amherst, N.H.

Survivors include his son, John W. Duggan Jr., of Nashua; a grandson, Richard W. Duggan of Washington, D.C.; and two granddaughters, Lisa Harlow of Lincoln, and Kristen Sawyer of Fitchburg, Mass.; one brother, Paul Duggan of Chamberlain, Maine.; his loving companion of nineteen years, Dorothy Lincoln of Swanzey Center; and her children, R.J. Lincoln and Terry Lincoln, both of Rye; her grandchildren, Justin, Alexandra and Terry Lincoln, all of Rye; several nieces and nephews.

DUGGAN - John W. Duggan Sr., 79, of 28 Eaton Road, Swanzey Center, N.H., died on June 16, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 23, at the United Church of Christ Chapel, 23 Central Square, Keene. The Rev. Fay L. Gemmell will officiate. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Duggan's memory to Home Health Care, Hospice and Community Services, P.O. Box 564, Keene, N.H. 03431 or to the American Cancer Society, N.H. Division, c/o Norma Jeanne Pinney, P.O. Box 87, West Swanzey, N.H. 03469. The Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court St., Keene, is in charge of the arrangements.

Geraldine M. Wilson

PORTSMOUTH - Geraldine Margaret Wilson died in Portsmouth on June 8, 2001. Born in Brookline, Mass., on Nov. 29, 1912, she was the youngest child of John White Wilson and Margaret Kay Wilson. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Bryant Business College in Boston. As an adult, she lived in Cambridge and worked at Harvard University as a secretary to the deans of the Advanced Management Business Program. Geraldine was a devout Christian and faithful member of Park Street Congregational Church in Boston.

A spirited, adventurous, creative and vibrant woman, Geraldine was truly a world traveler. She vacationed in Cuba, Portugal, England, Switzerland, throughout Europe and in the western United States long before extended travel was seen as commonplace. She was a zealous proponent of the consumption of vegetables, large quantities of water and exercise - now known as "maintaining a healthy lifestyle." This was surely reflected in her remarkable and well known athletic ability. She took many bicycle trips, staying at hostels along the way, and for years remained consistently a fine skier and avid tennis player.

Geraldine was intelligent, well read and a truly professional career woman. She was held in high regard by a multitude of business leaders who attended the AMP program at Harvard, by her many friends at Park Street Church and by her family. She was an incredibly fashionable and vivacious woman, who lived fully and who was a dedicated Christian. Geraldine was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Robert and James; her sister, Nan Olson; and her nephew, Robert Olson, who lovingly provided support and companionship following the death of her sister. She is survived by nieces and nephews and their children, who loved her and whose lives were enriched by her.

WILSON - Geraldine M. Wilson, 88, of Portsmouth, died June 8, 2001, in Portsmouth. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2001, at the First Congregational Church of Eliot on State Road. Should friends desire, memorials may be sent to Park Street Church, Boston, Mass. The J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine, is entrusted with arrangements.

Caroline Spinney

ELIOT, Maine - Funeral services were held for Caroline Spinney of Eliot at the Eliot United Methodist Church, Rte. 236, in Eliot, with the Rev. Ronald Messer officiating.

In attendance were her friends, family and neighbors, as well as representatives from the town of Eliot.

The congregation was led in song by organist Nancy Jones.

Services continued at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, where the Rev. Messer offered a committal service for her. Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Michael Spinney, Kevin Spinney, Charles Simonds and Rob Tice. All were invited to the church for refreshments and a time of sharing after the committal.

Kitty F. Cameron

EXETER - Kitty F. Cameron, 97, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Exeter Hospital.

She was born in Benbecula, Outer Hebrides, Scotland, on Sept. 12, 1903, the daughter of the late Malcolm and Mary (MacPherson) MacRae.

She was the wife of the late Duncan Cameron, a retired captain with the New York Police Department, who died in 1960.

She resided in New York, N.Y., for most of her life, having moved to Portsmouth in 1990 from East Rutherford, N.J.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary S. Cameron, of Exeter.

CAMERON - Kitty F. Cameron, 97, of Exeter, died June 16, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton. Friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.

Lena J. Aquilina

BRENTWOOD - Lena J. Aquilina, 83, of 117 North Road, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home.

She was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Brooklyn N.Y., a daughter of the late Gaspare and Giovansia (D'Angelo) Zizzo.

She attended schools in Brooklyn. She lived in Exeter for several years before moving to Brentwood. She was the wife of the late Patrick C. Aquilina, who died in 1998.

Family members include one son, Michael Aquilina of Exeter; three daughters, Kathleen DeDomenico of New Port Richey, Fla., Johanna Treadwell of Barrington, and Patricia L. Palmer of Jupiter, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Garret Zizzo of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Mary Casales of New Port Richey, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are private. Arrangements are by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

Howard R. Brigulio

DOVER - Howard R. Brigulio, 48, formerly of Dover, died at the Epsom Manor Nursing Home, on Monday, June 18, 2001, after a long battle with brain cancer.

Born in Exeter on June 3, 1953, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Irene (Freyer) Brigulio. He was a graduate of Dover High School with the Class of 1971 and of the University of New Hampshire, where he played on the hockey team.

He was employed at Northern Utilities for several years until his health made it necessary for him to resign. He later went to work at the Greenland School, and after that he worked at the Greenland transfer station, where he enjoyed visiting with the town residents. He also volunteered as a Little League coach in Greenland.

Survivors include two sisters, Frances Thompson and her husband, William, and Virginia Wilbur and her husband, James, all of Greenland; nephews Christopher Thompson and Jon Thompson of Greenland and Jeff Wilbur of North Hampton; niece and godchild Karen Wilbur of Greenland; several grandnephews and -nieces; and many friends. He was predeceased by a niece, Kelly JoAnn Wilbur.

BRIGULIO - Howard R. Brigulio, 48, formerly of Dover, died June 18, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Friday at St. James Church, Rte. 1, Lafayette Road, Portsmouth. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Greenland. Memorials may be made to the Greenland Volunteer Fire Department, Attn: Lorre, P.O. Box 100, Greenland, NH 03840.

Mildred L. Haggerty

HAMPTON - The funeral for Mildred L. Haggerty, 82, of Falmouth, Maine, was held Wednesday from the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. The Services were conducted in the Hampton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Carroll Moore, pastor, officiated. Mary Oliver was organist. Mrs. Haggerty's son, Denis Drobinski, played a musical tribute on the harp and offered the eulogy. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, with committal services by the Rev. Mr. Moore. The U.S. Flag was presented to her three children, Lynda Worcester, Denissa Drobinski, and Denis Drobinski.

Kitty F. Cameron

HAMPTON - The funeral for Kitty F. Cameron, 97, of Exeter who died June 16, 2001, was held Wednesday from the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. George E. Ham, pastor, and the Rev. Michael J. Griffin, senior priest, were the celebrants. Nelson K. Ward was organist and Patrice Chaisson was soloist. Altar servers were members of the Holy Name Society. John MaGuire offered the readings. Among those in attendance were several members of the Stephen Ministry and caregivers to Mrs. Cameron. Interment will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. Rev. Sean Jordan McConway of Holy Innocent Parish will conduct the services.

Frederick J. Willette Jr.

PORTSMOUTH - Frederick J. Willette Jr., 78, husband of Helen (Perry) Willette, of 1338 Woodbury Avenue, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Massachusetts on Oct. 12, 1922, the son of the late Frederick J. Willette Sr., and Hattiebell (Page) Willette.

Frederick served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a baker in the area for 30 to 35 years.

Besides his wife survivors include two sons, Frederick D. Willette of South Gardiner, Maine and Daniel Willette of Castine, Maine; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Dorothy Willette of Massachusetts; one brother, Charles Willette of Rochester; and a special niece Roxanne Perry of Portsmouth.

SKIDMORE - A memorial service celebrating the life of Robert Skidmore Ecke, M.D., will be held at the First Congregational Church of Eliot at 155 State Road in Eliot, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001.

Ernest Carrier

DOVER - Ernest Carrier, 86, of 23½ Hill St., died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Born in Sanford, Maine, Nov. 19, 1914, he was the son of John and Olivine (Lemay) Carrier. He lived in Sanford and was educated in the Sanford schools before moving to Dover many years ago.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, assigned to the 1st Marine Division having served for 3½ years in the South Pacific. He was a past commander and life member of the Dover Post No. 8 American Legion.

Prior to his retirement he was a 33-year employee of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the Quality Assurance Department. He also held a New Hampshire master plumber's license.

He was a life member of the Dover Lodge of Elks and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 443.

He was an active member of St. Charles Church where he was on the Parish Council and had served on many church committees.

The widower of Evelyn (Boucher) Carrier, who died in 1977, he is survived by two sons, Ernest John Carrier and his wife, Irene, of Portsmouth, and Robert Charles Carrier and his fiancee, Janet Hanson, of Dover; four grandchildren, Wesley, Jason, Christopher and Conor Carrier; and nieces and nephews.

CARRIER - Ernest Carrier, 86, of Hill Street, Dover, died June 20, 2001. Relatives and friends are invited to call today (Friday) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, at St. Charles Church, 577 Central Ave., Dover, with the Rev. Paul Gregoire, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery.
