Ena M. McLaughlin

PORTSMOUTH - Ena Marion (Winsor) McLaughlin, 74, of 141 Sagamore Ave., died June 23, 2001, at Langdon Place, Dover, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Newfoundland on Aug. 24, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Emma (Stanford) Winsor.

She was a graduate of Somerville High School and a graduate of the Somerville Hospital School of Nursing.

She was married to Dr. William F. McLaughlin in 1949 and lived many years in Waltham, Mass., raising her four children.

They later moved to Portsmouth in 1978.

She enjoyed her summers with friends and family at her home on Cape Cod. She was an avid knitter and baker and took great pleasure in creating and giving handmade gifts.

Survivors include her husband, William F. McLaughlin of Portsmouth; three daughters, Marilyn P. Hickey and her husband, J. Michael Hickey, of Bedford, N.H., Barbara A. McLaughlin of Watertown, Mass., and Joan D. McClellan of Lebanon, Maine; one son, William F. McLaughlin Jr. and his wife, Sharon (Hussey), of Greenland; a brother, Wilbur Winsor of Framingham, Mass.; four grandchildren, Ryan, Brett, Ross and Nathan; many nieces and nephews; and her longtime friends.

She was predeceased by her brother Samuel Winsor of Randolph, Mass.

McLAUGHLIN - Ena Marion (Winsor) McLaughlin, 74, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Langdon Place in Dover. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Farrell Funeral Home in Portsmouth. She will be buried on Wednesday at the Calvary Cemetery following a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Hampshire chapter of the American Heart Association, 20 Merrimack St., #1, Manchester, NH 03101.

George Starr

KITTERY, Maine - Funeral services for George Starr of Eliot, Maine were held on Friday, June 22, 2001, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery. The Rev. Dr. David Avery of the First Congregational Church in Eliot, officiated. Words of remembrance and thanks for his life and his service to his family and his community were expressed. The service continued at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot where the Rev. Dr. Avery offered words of committal and the Eliot American Legion Post No. 188 offered a rifle salute. The United States Marine Corps Honors Team represented by Msgt. Allen folded the draped flag and offered it as a token of appreciation for Mr. Starr's service to his country to Mrs. Starr. Taps were offered by Tim Janousek and Amanda Braddish. Friends and family gathered at the Starr residence after the service to share memories. Arrangements were by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home.

Andre C. Pelletier

KITTERY POINT, Maine - Andre C. Pelletier, 33, of 39 Tenney Hill Road, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born July 17, 1967 in Exeter, he was the son of Alphonse L. and Roselyn (Bargiel) Pelletier. He was raised in Kittery, graduating from Traip Academy.

He was employed as a prep man with Coastal Trucking and Auto.

Family members include his brothers, Paul Pelletier of Kittery Point; Roger Pelletier of Berlin, N.H.; and his half-brother, Chris Bargiel of Kittery Point. He was predeceased by both of his parents.

PELLETIER - Andre C. Pelletier, 33, of 39 Tenney Hill Road, died June 23, 2001. Calling hours from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Kent and Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket, N.H. Religious services will be held in the funeral home that evening at 8:30, with the Rev. Tom Coover of Dover officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

James M. Ahearn

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - James M. Ahearn, 81, of South Richland St., died Monday, June 25, 2001, at a hospital in Portland, Maine.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H., he was the son of Edward and Nora Bluett Ahearn. He attended Portsmouth schools.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in France, Normandy and Italy.

He was employed at Dan's Supermarket in Portsmouth, as well as the Red and White Food Chain in South Burlington, Vt. He was later employed at Martin's Foods and retired as a supermarket manager from Shop 'n Save, in the 1980s.

He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church and a member of VFW No. 832.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lucille Barbeau Ahearn of South Portland, Maine; three daughters, Mrs. James (Jacqueline) Gillespie of South Portland, Maine; Mrs. Robert (Mary Anne) Chamberlain of Dover, N.H.; Patricia Ahearn of Portland, Maine; two sons, Edward J. Ahearn of Palm Springs, Calif.; Michael Ahearn of Gorham, Maine; a brother, Thomas Ahearn of Portsmouth, N.H.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

AHEARN - James M. Ahearn, 81, of South Richland St., South Portland, Maine, died June 25, 2001. There will be no visiting hours. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, at the Conroy-Tully Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland, Maine, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Holy Cross Church. Burial will be in New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland, Maine.

Geraldine M. Wilson

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Geraldine M. Wilson of Portsmouth, were held at the First Congregational Church of Eliot on Sunday, June 24, 2001, with the Rev. Dr. David Avery, officiating.

In attendance were church members, friends and family. An opening was presented by the Rev. Donald Gum, a dear friend of Ms. Wilson's.

The congregation was led in song by Emily Haggerty, church organist.

A solo of the Lord's prayer was offered by Ms. Wilson's niece, Nancy Ferguson, for her dear aunt.

All were invited for a time of refreshment and sharing at MacPherson Hall after the service. Arrangements were by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery.

Mary E. Gordon

PORTSMOUTH - Mary E. Gordon, 40, of 308 Thornton St., died at her home on Sunday, June 24, 2001, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H. on Dec. 24, 1960, she was the daughter of Lorraine (Chabot) Gordon.

She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1978 and took a correspondence class to be a legal assistant.

She spent many years working in retail. Presently, she was a receptionist/secretary with the Portsmouth School Department.

She was a past treasurer of the New Franklin P.T.O., and a past secretary/treasurer of the Portsmouth East Little League.

She was a member of the St. Catherine's Women's Club. She was a 15-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 6 in Portsmouth and a member of the Unit Color Guard. She was an avid collector of teddy bears, loved needlepoint and crafts.

Besides her mother, she is survived by her son, Tyler J. of Portsmouth; four sisters, Karyl A. Horn and her husband, Bruce, of Newmarket, N.H.; Pamela J. Mattingly of South Berwick, Maine; Patricia E. Belleville of Portsmouth, N.H.; and Suzanne M. Gordon and her fiance, David Seeley, of Rochester, N.H.; one brother, James M. Gordon of Dover, N.H.; two nieces, Logan Seeley of Rochester, N.H. and Stephanie Fitzsimmons and her husband, Hank, of Newmarket, N.H.; two nephews, Brett Mattingly of South Berwick, Maine; and Michael Seeley of Rochester, N.H.; and one great-nephew, Aries Fitzsimmons of Newmarket, N.H.; and her many friends and co-workers. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Wilfred (Pete) and Alice Chabot of Portsmouth, N.H. She will be sadly missed by her son, Tyler, and all those that loved her.

Ann E. LaMarca

SPRINGVALE, Maine - Ann E. LaMarca, 68, of 109 Stanley Road, Springvale, died suddenly Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.

Born in Lowell, Mass. on May 25, 1933, she was the daughter of Elmer Sawyer Laughton and Barbara Burkinshaw and her father's second wife, Florence Yates.

As a young girl she and her family moved to York, where she was raised, attended local schools and graduated from York High School, class of 1951.

After high school she attended Macintosh College.

She is the former owner of Kittery Auto Sales, which was located on Route 236 in Kittery, and also of the Catier Club in Rollinsford, N.H., "Where the Elite Meet." She owned and operated the Starr Crafts and Quilts in Springvale, attending many shows and displaying her talents as a gifted quilter.

She was a member of the United Maine Crafters, Rollinsford American Legion Post and attended the Union Congregational Church in York.

She is survived by her children, a son, Bradley P. and Tracy Coleman of Key Largo, Fla.; her daughters, Pamela Ann Coleman of Northwood, N.H. Wendi and Gary LaPerriere of Sanford, Maine; Elizabeth and Gary Breton of Lebanon, Maine; stepdaughters, Randi and Ed LaMarca DuBois and Terri and Larry LaMarca Burdick, all of South Berwick, Maine; and Robin Lacasse; a sister, Jo-Ann Laughton of Springvale, Maine and her former husband, Robert Lacasse of Somersworth, N.H.; 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands, Edward R. LaMarca and Bradley Coleman.

LaMARCA - Ann E. LaMarca, 68, of 109 Stanley Road, Springvale, Maine, died Sunday, June 24, 2001. Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, June 27, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/US Route 1 Bypass, Kittery. Friends and family may call the day of the service from 10 a.m. to noon before the service at the funeral home. A time of refreshment and sharing will follow in Sanford, after the service. Arrangements by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery.

Frances M. Medeiros

PORTSMOUTH - Frances Marilyn Medeiros, 66, of Portsmouth, died on June 24, 2001 at home.

She was born May 1, 1935 in Somerville, Mass., the daughter of the late James and Mabel (Bonnell) Manning.

She leaves her husband, Russell, of 46 years, who she married in April of 1955 in Salem.

She is survived by two daughters, Robin Walton of Stoneham, Mass. and (Laura) Sue Goros of Hampton. She also leaves behind her precious and cherished grandchildren, Paul Russell Whitney of New Port Richie, Fla. and Landis Leah Goros of Hampton.

She also leaves one great grandchild, Raelyn Ella Whitney of New Port Richie, Fla.

Mrs. Medeiros enjoyed crafts, ceramics, sewing, gardening and interior decorating.

According to family members, she created a charming, cozy home for herself and the ones she loved. Most of all, she gave her love and friendship to those around her.

MEDEIROS - Funeral services for Frances Marilyn Medeiros, 66, of Portsmouth, who died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at home, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2001 at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home at 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine. Major Edward Forster of the Quincy, Mass., Salvation Army will conduct services. A graveside committal service and burial will follow in Brooks Memorial Cemetery, Eliot, Maine. Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made in her memory to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, N.H. 03833 or to the Seacoast Area Feline Education and Rescue (S.A.F.E.R.), P.O. Box 1531, Hampton, N.H. 03843.

Evelyn F. Pearson

MIDDLETON, Mass. - Evelyn (Fogg) Pearson, 80, of 4 Greenway Road, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2001, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth, N.H.

Born in Readfield, Maine, on April 30, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Inez (Turner) Fogg and was a graduate of Kents Hill School in Kents Hill, Maine.

She was a member of the Greenwood Union Church in Wakefield, Mass. and a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Malden, Mass.

On April 30, she celebrated her 80th birthday at the Mark H. Wentworth Home.

Survivors include two daughters, Roberta Welsh of Middleton, Mass.; and Andrea Law of Greenland, N.H.; two sons, Ronald Pearson of Alton Bay, N.H.; and Stephen Pearson of Pepperell, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; one brother Raymond Fogg of Readfield, Maine; two sisters, Christine Wetherington of Readfield, Maine; and Marion Eames of Livermore Falls, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter E. Pearson and one brother, Samuel Fogg Jr.

PEARSON - Evelyn (Fogg) Pearson, 80, of 4 Greenway Road, Middleton, Mass., died June 25, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thuesday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. No visiting hours. If desired, donations in her memory may be made to the World War II Memorial Fund, American Battle Commission, Attn: Internet, P.O. Box 96766, Washington, D.C. 20090-6766.

Helen P. Yarmac

PORTSMOUTH - Helen P. Yarmac, 86, of Naples, Florida and Portsmouth, died Tuesday, June 26 in Portsmouth, after a short illness.

Born in Greenfield, Mass., on May 13, 1915, she was the daughter of Frank and Helen Kwiatek Pydych. Her early years were spent in West Deerfield, Mass. with her several brothers and sisters. Upon graduating from Deerfield High School and Northampton Commercial College, she was employed by the Akey Insurance Company of Greenfield.

On July 4, 1938, she married John C. Yarmac Jr., also of Greenfield.

After her early years in Greenfield, she and her husband moved to Chicopee, Mass., where they owned and operated their grocery store "The Franklin Market" in Springfield, Mass. from 1954 to 1975. After retiring from the market, they remained in Chicopee and she worked for several years at Street Supply, a hardware store in South Hadley, Mass.

Shortly after the death of her husband in 1983, she returned to Greenfield where she was employed by Mr. Denham Lunt Sr., until his death in 1988. This was a very enjoyable time of her life. She was able to take a long-awaited trip to Europe, and caring for Mr. Lunt's grandchildren gave her much pleasure.

Starting in 1982 she wintered in Naples, Florida. Although confined to a wheelchair, she was able to get around on her own. In her electric scooter with her little dog "Lola" by her side, they were a feature of the condominium complex where she resided. She was warm and friendly, and made many friends. She liked word games, did crossword puzzles, and played Scrabble with some of these friends.

She spent summers with her daughter, Nancy, in Portsmouth. While there, she relished visits from her son, sister, nieces, nephews and special friends. She also enjoyed the gardens at Prescott Park, and drives along the ocean.

She is survived by her son, John C. Yarmac III, of Buckland, Mass.; her daughter, Nancy E. Yarmac of Portsmouth; a grandson, Scott James Soehlig of N.C.; a sister, Stefania Whitney of Deerfield, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Yarmac Soehlig in 1982.

YARMAC - Helen P. Yarmac, 86, of Naples, Florida, died June 26, 2001. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenfield Area Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 786, Greenfield, Mass., 01302, or to the animal shelter of your choice. The Kostanski Funeral Home of Turners Falls, Mass., is in charge of the arrangements.

Gertrude Duffy

PORTSMOUTH - Gertrude Duffy, 82, of 346 Pleasant St., died Monday, June 25, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Elizabeth, N.J., Feb. 2, 1919, she was the daughter of Emil and Bertha Theumler and was a resident of New Jersey for most of her life before moving to the Seacoast 15 years ago. She enjoyed playing bingo and the loving care she received from the staff of the Wentworth Home.

The widow of Joseph Duffy, who died in 1974, she is survived by a daughter, Chris Duffy-Wentzel of Newmarket, and a sister, Frieda Engler of New Jersey.

DUFFY - Gertrude Duffy, 82, of 346 Pleasant St., Portsmouth, died June 25, 2001. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. The Farrell Funeral Home of Portsmouth is assisting with the arrangements.

Mary A. Higgins

HAMPTON - Mary A. Higgins, 87, a resident of the Seacoast Health Center, formerly of the Dearborn House, died Monday, June 25 at the Seacoast Health Center in Hampton.

Born in Patchogue, Long Island, N.Y., on May 3, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Arthur O. and Ida (Swezey) Stokem.

She resided in Hampton since 1988, coming from Seabrook. Prior to this she lived in Ipswich, Mass. for many years.

She was a former member of the Happy Seabrook Citizens, the Seabrook & Hampton Falls Grange and was a former volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program.

Family members include two sons, Forrest A. Higgins of Newburyport, Mass., and Albert B. Higgins of Exeter; two daughters, Amy D. Dion of Salem, and Mary Lou Martin of Greenland; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Howard Stokem, two grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law.

HIGGINS - Mary A. Higgins, 87, of 22 Tuck Road, Hampton, died June 25, 2001. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Seabrook. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 104 Middle St., Manchester, N.H. 03101.
