Alice H. Robinson

LEE - Alice Hazlett Robinson, 86, of Kirkwood Corners, died Monday, July 2 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover after a period of failing health. She lived most of her life in Durham.

Born in Lynn, Mass. on Dec. 24, 1914, she was the daughter of Charles and Harriett Hazlett. She was a 1936 graduate of the University of New Hampshire. She married William F. Robinson on March 19, 1939. While bringing up her family, she was a telephone operator in Durham. She taught business in Amesbury, Mass., Goffstown, and Portsmouth.

She was a member of the Durham Community Church, the Guild, and the Silver Squares; a member and past president of the Durham B.P.W.; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and past matron of John Williams Chapter of Dover.

She was predeceased by her husband, William F. Robinson, in 1985.

She is survived by a son, William F. Robinson and his wife, Nancy, of Dover; a daughter, Susan H. White and her husband, Robert, of Brandenburg, Ky.; four grandchildren, George W. Robinson of Rochester, Mark G. Robinson of Louisville, Ky., Julie R. (White) Herod of East Windsor, N.J., and Christine M. White of Brandenburg, Ky.; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Flora Shields of Durham; a brother-in-law, Gordon Robinson of Barrington; and a very devoted friend, Dorothy True of Durham.

ROBINSON - Alice Hazlett Robinson, 86, of Kirkwood Corners, Lee, N.H., died July 2, 2001. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the chapel at the Durham Community Church, with the Rev. Mary Westfall and the Rev. Dwight Meader, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the Durham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Masonic Home, 813 Beech St., Manchester, N.H. 03104; or to the N.H. Eye Bank, 142 Main St., Nashua, N.H. 03060. The Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket is assisting with the arrangements.

HARMON - June Deary Harmon, 66, of 592 Dennett St., Portsmouth, died June 30, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.

Lily A. Efstathiou

OGUNQUIT, Maine - Lily Andrews Efstathiou, 63, of Beach Street, died Wednesday at her residence in Ogunquit after a long illness.

She was born in Montreal on Aug. 2, 1937, and was the daughter of George and Delia (Chayer) Gouzopoulos. She attended schools in Montreal.

She owned and operated the Aspinquid Motel in Ogunquit since 1965.

Active in politics, she was a member of the Reform Party and was instrumental in getting the Reform Party on the Maine Ballot. She also served as a National Delegate for the Reform Party.

She was predeceased by her husband, Constantine Efstathiou, who died in 1979.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Andrew of Ogunquit and John Andrews of Boston, Mass.; a brother, George Gouzopoulos, and two sisters, Constance Hatzis and Phyllis Raymond, all of Montreal; and three grandchildren, Constantine Andrews, Ian Andrews, and Arianna Andrews.

EFSTATHIOU - Lily Andrews Efstathiou, 63, of Beach Street, Ogunquit, Maine, died July 4, 2001, at her residence after a long illness. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2001, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 40 Andrew Jarvis Drive, Portsmouth. Memorials may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Thoracic Oncology Department, 44 Binney St., Boston, MA 02115 in memory of Lily Andrews Efstathiou. Arrangements by Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, Maine.

John MacDonald Swan

RYE - John MacDonald Swan, 85, of Rye, died suddenly at his residence June 29, 2001.

He was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on Jan. 22, 1916, the son of the late Robert and Agnes (Speirs) Swan. John was employed by The Dunlop Tire and Rubber Company in Tonawanda, N.Y. from 1939, where he began as a shift worker, until his retirement in 1974, when he was Plant Manager. After his retirement, he and Dorothy moved to Rye, where they and their daughters had enjoyed many happy vacations. He was a life-long Mason and past president of the Rye Golden Age Club. John was a man of many interests and accomplishments. He studied agriculture at Rutgers University, working with Professor Blake who developed the Rutgers tomato variety. He played the violin, enjoyed classical music, loved animals, read widely and traveled extensively in Europe as well as having visited every state in the Union. John was a capable home builder, having built two houses, and enjoyed using his carpentry skills on his own home, as well as the homes of his daughters. He was always happy to go with anyone who wanted to look at new cars, as he had a great interest in automobiles, and he helped his daughters select their cars. He was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Swan was the widow of Dorothy (Cott) Swan.

Family members include two daughters, Rosemary Cott Swan of Lebanon, Maine, and Mrs. Norton George (Heather Swan) Miller of Troy, N.Y.; a grandson, Andrew David Miller of Troy, N.Y.; and his long-time companion Bertha Duke of Rye.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Donations may be made in his memory to the Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094 or to the American Heart Association, 20 Merrimack St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Edrick M. Jenkins II

HAMPTON - Edrick M. Jenkins II, 76, of Hampton, formerly of Bridgewater, Mass., died on July 3, 2001, at Exeter Hospital after a period of failing health. Born in Braintree, Mass., he was the son of the late Edrick M. and Helen (Jones) Jenkins.

He worked as a plumber and pipe fitter for local 51 (formerly 276). He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He lived in New Hampshire for the past 20 years, and formerly in Bridgewater for 31 years. He grew up in Whitman, Mass. and attended Whitman schools. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards.

He was the former husband of Rose (Martelli) Jenkins and Audrey (Foot) Jenkins.

He was predeceased by his sister Lorraine Kent and grandson John Lewis.

He is survived by a daughter, Jackie S. Lewis-Provost of Bridgewater, Mass.; sisters Gertrude Jurkevicz of Maine, Dorothy Koslowsky of Hanson, Mass., and Oneida Doherty of Wareham, Mass.; grandsons Richard and Michael Lewis; and great-grandson John Lewis.

JENKINS - Edrick M. Jenkins II, of Hampton, formerly of Bridgewater, Mass., died July 3, 2001. Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, and the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday in the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., (Route 18) in Bridgewater. Burial in Colebrook Cemetery in Whitman, Mass. Donations may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Association, Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02115.

Victoria E. Linscott

EXETER - Victoria E. Linscott, 90, of River Street, died Wednesday, July 3, at her home, after a period of failing health.

Born Feb. 22, 1911 in Exeter, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Victoria (Walag) Linscott.

She was a lifelong resident of Exeter, as she graduated from the Robinson Female Seminary.

She worked for several years for Judge Henry Shute and retired after 20 years of secretarial work with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church of Exeter.

In her spare time she enjoyed reading, gardening, and arranging flowers.

She was the last of eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

LINSCOTT - Victoria E. Linscott, 90, of River Street, Exeter, died July 3, 2001. Private funeral services will be held for the family. Burial will be in Exeter Cemetery in Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements by the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

Cora L. Gorman

PORTSMOUTH - Cora Lee Gorman, 82, of 679 Colonial Drive, died Tuesday, July 3, at the home of her daughter, Helen Darlene (Mrs. Edwin MacNeil) of North Hampton.

Born in Owensboro, Ky. on Jan. 15, 1919, she was the daughter of Skiler and Lottie (Wetters) Fitzgerald. She moved from Owensboro to Terre Haute, Ind., where she met and married her husband of 31 years, Ernest, who died in 1968. After his death, she moved to New Hampshire, where she resided for many years in North Stratford. She was a resident of Portsmouth since 1998.

Besides Helen Darlene, survivors include four sons, Ernest and his wife, Pat, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Lee and his wife, Anne, of Ballwin, Mo., Wayne and his wife, Marsha, of Terre Haute, Ind., and Timothy and his wife, Karen, also of Terre Haute, Ind.; one daughter, Judy Euriga and her husband, Patrick, of Terre Haute, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and her beloved companion of 22 years, Lawrence R. Mayhew.

GORMAN - Cora Lee Gorman, 82, of 679 Colonial Drive, Portsmouth, died July 3, 2001. A private memorial service was held at 11 a.m. July 4 in the Chapel of St. Michael and All Angels of Christ Church in Exeter. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Terre Haute, Ind.

Linda J. Paré

HAMPTON FALLS - The funeral for Linda J. Paré, 39, of 6 Parsonage Road, Hampton Falls, was held Friday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. A Mass of Christian burial was concelebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. The Rev. George E. Ham, pastor, and the Rev. Michael J. Griffin, senior priest, were the celebrants. Nelson K. Ward was organist and Patricia Mackensen was soloist. Altar servers were members of the Holy Name Society. The pall was placed on the casket and the gifts were presented to the altar by her family, which included her husband, Timothy, daughters, Katie and Danielle, and her sisters, Kit and Laurie Kelly. The readings were offered by Ann Paré and Chris Brouillard. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton, with the committal serviced conducted by Father Ham. Pallbearers were Jim Bailey, Chris Brouillard, Jim McAden, Michael Paré and Richard Paré.

Herbert Hassett Yeaton

RYE - Herbert Hassett Yeaton, 97, the husband of Arlene "Betty" Yeaton, of 105 Central Road, went home to the Lord on Thursday, July 5, 2001.

Born in Rye, on Dec. 13, 1903, he was the son of Everett H. and Grace (Hassett) Yeaton. He lived in Rye all of his life, attended Rye schools and graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1923. He retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1963, where he was a leading man shipfitter in Shop 11.

After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed many years traveling and spent over 25 years wintering in Florida. He was an avid bowler until age 93.

He was a past member of the Rye Volunteer Fire Department, a charter member of the Rye Lions Club, a member of the Jr. O.U.A.M., where he served as councilor, a member of NARFE, AARP, the Rye Over 55 Club, and the Golden Age Club.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by a daughter, Leigh deRochemont and her husband, Ronald, of Rye; two sons, Alan Yeaton and his wife, Carol, of Goffstown; and Norman Yeaton and his wife, Elizabeth, of Rye; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Beryl Howe, who died in 1994 at age 87.

YEATON - Herbert Hassett Yeaton, 97, of 105 Central Road, Rye, went home to the Lord on July 5, 2001. Graveside services for family and friends will be held at Central Cemetery, Central Road, Rye, on Monday, July 9, at 3 p.m. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements by the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel.

Mary Ann Geraldine Despres

KITTERY, Maine - Mary Ann Geraldine Despres, 89, of 143 Rogers Road, Meetinghouse Village, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Alternatives House in Kittery.

Born and raised in Inkerman, New Brunswick, she and her family resided in Kittery for more than 50 years.

She and her husband were one of the original families to reside in Meetinghouse Village in Kittery and see it grow to the wonderful community it has become. Her first love was her family, enjoying her children and grandchildren very much. She also enjoyed gardening.

She was a member of St. Raphael Parish in Kittery.

She is survived by her husband for more than 60 years, John Baptiste Despres of Kittery; her daughters, Louise Benham and her husband Robert of Rochester, N.H.; Mary Ann Hamel and her husband Ronald of Gorham, N.H.; and her son, Thomas Despres and his wife Judith of Marblehead, Mass.; five grandchildren; a nephew, Thomas R. Power of Milton, Mass.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

DESPRES - Mary Ann Geraldine Despres, 89, of 143 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine, died July 4, 2001. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 29, at St. Raphael Church in Kittery, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth. Friends and family may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/US Route 1 Bypass, Kittery, Maine.

Eleanor R. Marchetti

HAMPTON - Eleanor R. Marchetti, 96, of 22 Tuck Road, died Wednesday, July 5, 2001, at the Seacoast Health Center.

Born in Boston, Mass., March 7, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Mariano) Petitti.

She was raised in the Dorchester section of Boston and had lived in Medford, Mass., from 1929 to 1975 before moving to Stoneham, Mass. She had resided in Hampton since 1989. She worked as a bookkeeper for Dini's Sea Grill Restaurant on Tremont Street in Boston from 1945 to 1965.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, a former communicant of St. James Church in Medford and while living in Stoneham, was active with the Senior Citizen Bridge Club.

She was the wife of the late Silvio Marchetti, who died in 1956.

Family members include one daughter, Louise M. Testa and her husband, Paul, of North Hampton; seven grandchildren, Joyce Cutting of Hampton, Linda Monroe and her husband, Jeff, of Stratham, Carol Ricker and her husband, Timothy, of Stratham, Mark Testa of Jupiter, Florida, Paul A. Testa of Stratham, Donna Harrington and her husband, Timothy, of Hampton, and Christopher Testa and his wife, Kelley, of Hingham, Mass.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

MARCHETTI - Eleanor R. Marchetti, 96, of Hampton, died July 5, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton, Monday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, Mass. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the Outreach Program, c/o Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842.

John D. Hester

PORTSMOUTH - John D. Hester, 79, of Portsmouth and formerly of Lynn, Mass., died on Friday, July 6, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Shirley M. (Maker) Hester.

He was born in Deport, Texas, the son of the late Wylley J. and Cloie E. (Bailey) Hester. He was raised in Alabama and attended schools there. He was a graduate of Tulane University. He lived in Lynn, Mass., from 1946 to 1985, and lived in Portsmouth since 1985.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater for five years. He was a philanthropist and a founding member of the Alzheimer's Association.

He was a former Lynn businessman, owning and operating a gas station, garage and auto rental agency at the corner of Broad and Market streets for 18 years. In 1966 he worked for the General Electric Co. Riverworks Plant, retiring from the Marine Propulsion Division after 15 years.

He was also a bailiff at Rockingham County Superior Court.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a friend, Joan McLaughlin of Portsmouth.

Private funeral services were held.

Cecelia (Kennedy) Trueman

PORTSMOUTH - Cecelia (Kennedy) Trueman, 93, widow of Thomas A. Trueman Sr., of 928 South St., died on Friday, July 6, 2001, at the Edgewood Centre.

She was born on Sept. 7, 1907, in Somerville, Mass., the daughter of Thomas and Nora (Ashe) Kennedy.

She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth.

She is survived by one son, Thomas A. Trueman Jr. and his wife, Pauline, of Jacksonville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Theresa Rodriguez of Providence, R.I., Lori Brown and Linda Cruicshank, both of Jacksonville, Nora Popp of Westport, Mass., Richard Tibbetts of Kailua, Hawaii, Carol Medolo and Paul Tibbetts, both of Portsmouth, Jo-Ann Clark of Stratham, Scott Trueman and Kim Smith, both of Raymond, Lisa Morin of Nokmis, Fla., and Glenn Trueman of Kensington; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a son-in-law, Richard J. Tibbetts of Portsmouth; a daughter-in-law, Mary Trueman of Salisbury, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

TRUEMAN - Mrs. Cecelia (Kennedy) Trueman, 93, of 928 South St., Portsmouth, died July 6, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth.
