Sandra Blaney Wilson

PALM DESERT, Calif. - Sandra Blaney Wilson, 48, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2001 after a short illness.

The second of four children, she was raised in Eliot, Maine, and moved with her family to Hawaii in 1971, where she met her husband, Bill, married, and moved to the West Coast. Moving to the Palm Desert area of Southern California, she raised three girls there, entered the University of California in the late 1970s, and, after many years, received her BA in education and began teaching fifth grade at The Eisenhower Elementary School. This had always been her dream. She was a very dedicated teacher. She spent many summer recesses from school back here in Maine, most often at her camp up on Square Pond in Shapleigh.

She was very active in different aspects of her teaching career, holding various positions in her teachers union as well as several roles at the elementary school where she taught, including coordinator of the Disaster Relief Team. History was probably her favorite subject to teach the children, and she often found ingenious ways to weave history from Maine and New England into her curriculum, feeling it always brought her closer to the childhood home she loved so much.

As a child she was very active in Eliot's Methodist Church and was a member of Rainbow Girls.

She was a dedicated and kind wife, mother, sister, and friend, and we will all miss her greatly. Her husband will accompany her back to Maine, where she will be buried in Eliot, near where she was born, next to her brother.

In addition to her husband, William Wilson, survivors include their three daughters, Jennifer, Christy and Kelly; her mother, Evelyn F. Blaney; her father, Parker N. Blaney Sr.; her sister, Cindy Sawyer; and her youngest brother, Parker N. Blaney Jr.

She was predeceased by her brother, Scot Fogg Blaney.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Laurel Kent Memorial Fund, William Fogg Library, P.O. Box 359, Eliot, ME 03903. The donations will be used to purchase books for the children's section of the library.
