Alick C. Eaton

SEABROOK - Alick C. Eaton, 66, of 116 Lower Collins St., died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at the home of his brother, Ivan Q. Eaton Sr., after a long battle with kidney dialysis.

A lifelong resident, he was born in Seabrook, Aug. 1, 1934, and was the son of the late Charles S. and Liona (Eaton) Eaton.

He was a shellfish worker for Souther Shellfish for 30 years, retiring in 1984.

He attended the Rand Memorial Church and enjoyed cards and bingo.

He was the husband of Sarah A. (Creighton) Eaton for 41 years.

In addition to his wife, surviving family members include one son, Alick C. Eaton Jr. and his wife, Michele, of Hampton; two brothers, Ivan Q. Eaton Sr. and his wife, Joann, and Thomas H. Eaton and his wife, Gail; two sisters, Mary Perkins and her husband, Ernest, and Emily Blanchard and her husband, Clarence; one sister-in-law, Mary Bergeron and her husband, Donal, all of Seabrook; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Four brothers, Frank, Charles, George and Calvin Eaton predeceased him.

EATON - Alick C. Eaton, 66, of 116 Lower Collins St., Seabrook, died July 24, 2001. Services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday at the Rand Memorial Church, South Main Street, Seabrook. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the home of his brother, Ivan Q. Eaton Sr., 112 Lower Collins St., Seabrook, today, at your convenience. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook. Arrangements by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Winfield H. Chick Jr.

PORTSMOUTH - Winfield H. "Chicky" Chick Jr., 95, of 35 Rogers St., died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.

He was born in Portsmouth, on Jan. 24, 1906, the son of Winfield H. Sr. and Meda (Schurman) Chick. He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1925.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for Portsmouth Power and Light Co. During his youth in the 1920s, he was involved with the Portsmouth Pageant and was a member of the Portsmouth Order of DeMolay.

A sister, Orintha M. "Rinkey" Chick, predeceased him on June 5, 2001.

CHICK - Winfield H. "Chicky" Chick Jr., 95, of 35 Rogers St., Portsmouth, died July 25, 2001. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday at The North Congregational Church, Market Square, Portsmouth. Friends invited. There will be no visiting hours. Please omit flowers. Donations in his memory may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of NH, 1492 Elm St., Suite 1, Manchester, NH 03101-1348. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel.

Jane E. Higgins

KITTERY POINT, Maine - Jane E. Higgins, 77, of Haley Road, Kittery Point, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at Langdon Place in Dover.

Born on Sept. 24, 1923, in Kittery, she was the daughter of Charles H. Jr. and Margaret I. (Estes) Witham. She attended local schools and graduated from R.W. Traip Academy.

She was a lifelong resident of Kittery Point, fondly remembered for her love of family and strong work ethic. Her father's business, Charlie Witham Lobster Pound, kept much of the family including herself busy while growing up, making traps in the winter and working the pound in the summer. She also enjoyed picking berries, and handiwork of all types.

As an adult her work ethic continued, and she worked at the shoe factory in Portsmouth, and in Virginia for a short time. Upon returning to Kittery Point she and her husband also fished and sold lobster. She enjoyed her time spent snowmobile riding with the local riding club as well as rug making, making mittens, hats, etc., and time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Kittery Point.

She is survived by her sons, Wayne Harris and his wife, Roberta, of Kittery Point, Dale Higgins and his wife, Patricia, of Kittery Point; grandchildren, Dwayne Harris, Courtney (Harris) Edwards, Trevor Higgins, Au Higgins, Corey Higgins, Johnny Higgins and Sean Higgins; her great-grandchildren, Tyler Edwards, Lucas Edwards and Jeremy Edwards; her sister Lillian Spinney of Kittery Point; and her brother Justin Witham of Eliot, Maine. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley R. Higgins, her sister Mildred Brooks and brothers Robert Witham and Clarence Witham.

HIGGINS - Jane E. Higgins, 77, of Haley Road in Kittery Point, Maine died July 25, 2001, at Langdon Place in Dover. Her Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday from the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/US Route 1 Bypass, Kittery. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Rice Public Library in Kittery. Arrangements by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery.

Wallace R. Moore

EXETER - Wallace Russell Moore, of 34 Hall Place, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001.

Born July 23, 1907 in Kittery Point, Maine, he was the son of Levi K. Moore and Agnes Bridges. He attended schools in Kittery Point and Kittery.

He was a longtime resident of Exeter. He retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he worked as an electrician. Prior to that he was a lineman for Public Service Co. He was a former member of the Exeter Police Department.

Randy, as he was called, loved all sports and for many years played golf at the Exeter Country Club.

His wife, Beatrice Mullen, predeceased him 14 years ago.

Survivors include nephews, Lawrence W. Allen Jr. of Eliot, Maine; Patrick Mullen and Thomas Mullen, both of San Jose, Calif.

MOORE - Wallace Russell Moore, 94, of 34 Hall Place, Exeter, died July 24, 2001. There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Burial will follow in the Exeter Cemetery with the Rev. Moynihan, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice.

Robert E. McCluskey

PORTSMOUTH - Robert E. McCluskey, 74, of 346 Pleasant St., passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born on Dec. 28, 1926, in Bangor, Maine, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Dunn) McCluskey. He worked as a certified aid at Bangor Medical Center before moving to Portsmouth 21 years ago. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, as well as a fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus Council No. 140.

He is survived by his wife Marion (Bassett) McCluskey; three sons, John H. Walsh of White River Junction, Vt., Scott Walsh of Dover, and Peter J. Johnson of Kittery, Maine; three daughters, Barbara Eliot of Kittery, Donna Walsh of Tucson, Ariz. and Ann Gable of Hawaii; three brothers, Francis, Lawrence, and Dugan McCluskey, all of Bangor; three sisters, Mary Hranybzka of Bangor, Jeannette Levitt of North Hampton, and Patricia Turner of Bangor; four grandsons; and three granddaughters.

McCLUSKEY - Robert E. McCluskey, 74, of 346 Pleasant St., Portsmouth, died on July 24, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to the Mark H. Wentworth Home, 346 Pleasant St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

RUSS - Robert E Russ, 81, formerly of 3 Hawthorne St., Dover, died July 22, 2001. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. At the family's request, no flowers please. Those who desire may make donations in his name to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820; or to St. Ann Home Activities Fund, 195 Dover Point Road, Dover, NH 03820. Arrangements under the direction of the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.

Frederick E. Everett Sr.

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Frederick E. Everett Sr., 71, of 18 Morgan Road, Rochester, were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth on Thursday. The Rev. Dawn A. Shippee, pastor of the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth, officiated. The 23rd Psalm was read by son-in-law, John Vitagliano. "Amazing Grace" was sung a cappella by Anita Landry. Words of remembrance were given by his daughter, Judy Drummond, and granddaughter, Stephanie Adams.

Burial was in Newington Cemetery in Newington, with committal services by Shippee.

An honor guard was formed by a detachment from Hanscom's Air Force Base, under the direction of SMSgt. William Jones, including SSgt. Leigh Nichols, and SRA Robert Rojek.

The American flag that draped the casket was folded by Nichols and Rojek.

A volley was fired by Jones, Nichols and Rojek. The American flag was then presented to his widow, Marjorie (Squires) Everett.

Bearers were Frederick E. Everett Jr., Mark D. Everett, Al Tapscott, Paul Adams, Justin Huelsmann, and Vitagliano.

Masonic services were held at the chapel on Wednesday evening, by St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F&AM with Wor. Master, Phillip Fraser, chaplain; Nelson D. Hersey, PM; senior deacon Brian Sanderson, marshal; Thomas G. LaBerge, PM, senior warden; Edward J. Conway, PM; Robert Southernland, PM; Robert M. Argel, PM; and secretary, Donald H. Ladd, PM.

Karin Settles

SALEM, Mass. - Karin (McCarthy) Settles, R.N., 38, of Salem, formerly of Newmarket, N.H., died Thursday afternoon in the Lahey Clinic, Burlington, Mass.

Born in Salem, she graduated from Salem High School, class of 1981. A graduate of nursing school, she was currently employed by the Partners for Woman's Health in Exeter, N.H.

She is survived by her former husband Michael Settles of Beverly; a son, Jarad Settles, and a daughter Jessica Settles, both of Newmarket; her parents, John "Jack" and Nancy (Brault) McCarthy of Peabody; a sister Kristin McCarthy of Shutesbury; several aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews.

SETTLES - Karin (McCarthy) Settles, 38, of Salem, Mass., formerly of Newmarket, died July 26, 2001. Funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem, Mass. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Barbara P. Bemis

RYE - Barbara Patterson (Blackington) Bemis, 81, of 156 Parsons Road, the widow of Raymond E. Bemis, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Portsmouth on Feb. 15, 1920, she was the daughter of George Blackington and Mildred (Patterson) Blackington Ricker. She attended Portsmouth schools and was active in the Portsmouth Camera Club.

Survivors include two sons, Brian McGirr of Hinsdale and Preston Bemis of England and Russia; several grandchildren; and a stepbrother, Arthur Ricker of Exeter.

BEMIS - Barbara Patterson (Blackington) Bemis, 81, of 156 Parsons Road, Rye, died July 25, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. No visiting hours. Please omit flowers. If desired, donations may be made to the NHSPCA, P.O. Patricia M. Couture

DURHAM - Patricia M. (Boardman) Couture, 62, of Durham, retired registered nurse for Bayshore Hospital in Holmdel, N.J., died Thursday, July 26, 2001.

She was born in Swansea, Mass. She resided for many years in Atkinson while working for Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass. For the past two years, she was a member of the Durham Garden Club and a volunteer for N.H. Public Television.

She is survived by a husband, Russell Couture; her children, Stephen, Sandra, Shawn, and Scott; and five awesome grandchildren.

COUTURE - Patricia M. (Boardman) Couture, 62, of Durham, died July 26, 2001. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home in Newmarket.

Alick C. Eaton

SEABROOK - The funeral for Alick C. Eaton, 66, of 116 Lower Collins St., who died July 24, 2001, was held Friday from his brother's home Ivan Q. Eaton Sr. Largely attended services were conducted in the Rand Memorial Church. The Rev. Ted McCurdy, pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth J. Walton, officiated. A letter written by Shelley Souriolle was read as well as a poem written by Amy Fowler. The funeral concluded with the hymn "It is Finished" by William J. and Gloria Gaither, which was led in song by Larry Fowler. Burial followed in the Hillside Cemetery with the committal service conducted by McCurdy and Walton. Pallbearers were George M. Eaton, Donal C. Bergeron Jr., Harry Bergeron, Bernie Gynan Sr., Thomas Vail, and Mark S. Eaton. Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory.

Jane E. Higgins

KITTERY POINT, Maine - A funeral was held for Jane E. Higgins of Kittery Point, who died July 25, 2001, on Friday, July 27, 2001 at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery, with the Rev. Jill Vogt officiating. In attendance were friends and family. Burial followed in the First Christian Cemetery in Kittery Point with her sons, Dale Higgins and Wayne Harris, acting as pallbearers, along with Frank Witham and Dwayne Harris.

Allen M. Rideout

EXETER - Allen M. Rideout, 97, of 8 Hampton Road, died Monday, July 23, 2001 at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Exeter.

Born in Somerville, Mass. on Nov. 22, 1903, he was the son of the late Ray R. and Susan J. (MacDonald) Rideout.

Mr. Rideout was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School with the class of 1920. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and then graduated from Harvard College with honors with the class of 1925.

He worked as an accountant for General Electric in Lynn, Mass. from 1942 to 1952. He later worked as a self-employed grower of evergreens, perennials, and strawberries for many years.

He was a charter member and past master of the Lynnfield, Mass. Masonic Lodge and member of the Allepo Temple Shrine in Boston.

He was the husband of the late Allene L. (Holman) Rideout, who died in 1994.

He is survived by two sons, Richard H. Rideout and his wife, Agnes, of Fairport, N.Y., and Philip Rideout and his wife, Sylvianne, of New York; three grandchildren, Nicole Rideout, Robbyn Drew, and Craig Rideout; and nine great-grandchildren, Julie Richardson, Christian Richardson, Chloe Drew, Kyle Drew, Colin Rideout, Andrew Rideout, Alexander Rideout, Elizabeth Rideout, and Julia Rideout.

Private burial was in the High Street Cemetery in Hampton. Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory in Hampton.

Stephen B. Rakaseder

PORTSMOUTH - Stephen Bridwell Rakaseder, 34, of Thaxter Road, died on Tuesday in San Jose, Calif., after a valiant and heroic fight against non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

He was born February 10, 1967 in Stamford, Conn., and grew up in New Canaan, Conn. He graduated from New Canaan High School in 1985. He is also a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in music composition and film scoring.

For several years, Stephen was an independent creative consultant based in Connecticut, where he designed Web site interfaces and multimedia CD-ROMs for Fortune 1000 high technology and financial services clients. In 1998, Stephen and his family moved to Portsmouth to co-found Wunderkind Studios, a full service new media design, development, and communications firm. As Wunderkind Studios chief creative officer, Stephen directed and mentored the design team.

Within the Portsmouth cultural community, Stephen was a driving force in forging Wunderkind's strong ties to The Music Hall, culminating in a pro-bono partnership that resulted in the launch of the new acclaimed Web site this past June. Stephen was also appointed to the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Committee on the Arts in 1999.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa (Casey) Rakaseder of Portsmouth; his children, Maximillian and Eliza; his parents, Ronald and Susan Rakaseder of York, Maine; his sister and brother-in-law, Jessica and Adam Sweidan of London, England; his grandmother, Anna Rakaseder of Darien, Conn.; his great-aunt, Katherine Dutton of York, Maine; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Elizabeth Cole of Cape Neddick, Maine; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark and Kristi Samber of Portsmouth; his brother-in-law, Drew Casey of Portsmouth; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

RAKASEDER - Stephen Bridwell Rakaseder, 34, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in San Jose, Calif., after a fight with cancer. A celebration service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, at his parents home at 22 Old Mast Road, York, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Stephen B. Rakaseder Fund, c/o Bank of New Hampshire, 333 State Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801, (603) 433-2969.

Joseph H. Tetreau

SANFORD, Maine - Joseph H. Tetreau, 80, of Main Street, died early Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Marcus Daly Hospital, Hamilton, Mont., following a long illness. Born in Sanford on Oct. 12, 1920, he was the son of Alfred and Aurelie Langlois Tetreau. He attended the former St. Ignatius school and was a graduate of Sanford High School in 1939.

He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an engineering technician for 43 years, retiring in 1975. Some time after his retirement, he and his wife moved to Sonoma, Calif., for 25 years, returning to Sanford in 1998.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a former Boy Scout leader in York for 14 years.

He enjoyed golf, walking and traveling.

He was predeceased by his wife of 57½ years, Marie Ann "Louise" Foster Tetreau, who died in 1999.

He is survived by a daughter, Sally Ann Rancour of Hamilton, Mont.; two sons, David Henry Tetreau of Kaktovik of Alaska and Joseph Henry Tetreau Jr. of Mattawan, Mich.; five sisters, Laurette Ball of Somersworth, N.H., Sister Aurelie Tetreau of Brunswick, Maine, Claire Brandt of Lejolle, Calif., Adrienne Leblanc of Sanford, and Louise Pepin of Biddeford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

TETREAU - Joseph H. Tetreau, 80, of Main Street, Sanford, Maine, died July 26, 2001. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the LaFrance-Lambert Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford, Maine. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Ignatius Church. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery.

KEOHANE - Robert F. Keohane, 71, of 39 Moulton Road in Hampton, died July 26, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery in Hampton. If desired, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
