LACONIA - Pauline Smith Kinsley, 92, of the Taylor Home Community, died at the Congregate Living Center on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001. She was the widow of the Rev. Floyd Kinsley, who died in 1996.

Born April 29, 1909, in North Hampton, she was the daughter of Edward M. and Estelle (Leavitt) Kinsley. Her father was a civil engineer for the Boston and Maine Railway, and she was able to enjoy such travel benefits as attending high school in Newburyport, Mass., commuting round-trip by train from North Hampton. Upon completing high school in 1926, she attended and graduated from the University of New Hampshire in Durham with a liberal arts degree. She earned her degree in social work from Simmons College in Boston in 1932. She accepted a position in Lowell, Mass., where she was a family welfare worker. In 1938, she became a child welfare caseworker for the New Hampshire Department of Welfare in Concord, remaining there until her marriage in 1941.

She met and married Floyd Kinsley, a young Congregational minister, in Hampton, thus giving up her career to become a minister's wife, homemaker and mother. They had two children, Paul, born in 1943, and Janet, in 1948.

She was a champion of each of her new careers - juggling the demanding church schedule and caring for her family - successfully. She sang in church choirs, hosted social functions, worked actively with church activities and still found the time to be a full-time, available mother.

Their ministerial service included: First Congregational Church, Hampton, from 1941 to 1952; First Congregational Church in Rochester, from 1952 to 1961; Warren Congregational Church, Westbrook, Maine, from 1961 to 1969; and retirement from the Gilford Community Church, Gilford, in 1975. They joined the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Wolfeboro when they retired to their home on Rust Pond.

She loved to cook and was famous for her chocolate cake and apple-oatmeal pudding. She was a prolific knitter, making sure her church bazaars were supplied with ample mittens, baby ensembles and sweaters. She and her husband worked faithfully on hooked rugs. Many samples of their handiwork are enjoyed today by their family and friends. She spent countless hours maintaining her son's stamp collection. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles and especially loved the challenge of a good game of Scrabble. She enjoyed driving and drove a stick-shift until she was 87 years old. She and her family enjoyed vacations at their summer homes on Lake Winnipesaukee. They ventured across country by car with their son in the 1950s and went to Disneyland. She and her husband were fortunate enough to travel to the Holy Land in the 1970s.

In 1996, when her husband died, she moved to the Taylor Home Congregate Living Center in Laconia. She rejoined the Gilford Community Church, where her services will be held.

She joins her husband, her parents and her brother, and will be deeply missed by her children, Paul Kinsley of Milwaukee, Wis., and Janet Sanitize of Limerick, Maine; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
