Adeline A. (Sarro) Ippolito

CONWAY - Adeline A. (Sarro) Ippolito, 83, died on July 12, 2000, at the SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center of North Conway after a long illness.
She was born in Revere, Mass., and lived there until moving to Conway with her grandson, David J. DiMatteo, in February.
She was a member and treasurer of the Anthonian Society of St. Anthony's Parish in Revere for a number of years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank "Pat" Ippolito, who died on June 26, 1999; her daughter, Sandra C. Selvitella, and her sisters, Margaret A. Sarro, Francis Sarro and Lillian Gallucci.
She is survived by her grandson, David J. DiMatteo and his wife, Deborah A. of Glen; two great granddaughters, Alicia S. and Marissa "Missy" DiMatteo of Glen; and her sister, Helen LaScola and husband, Peter of Revere. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral beginning at Vertuccio Funeral Home on 773 Broadway in Revere, Mass., on Saturday, July 15 at 9 a.m. The funeral mass will be at St. Anthony's Church in Revere at 10 a.m. Visiting hours are Friday only from 5 to 9 p.m. Parking is available in the lot to the left of the funeral home. The burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Sandra C. Selvitella Scholarship Fund, c/o David J. DiMatteo, P.O. Box 396, Glen, N.H. 03838.

Ethel M. Virgilio

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - Ethel M. Virgilio, 92, of Ridgeland Avenue in South Portland, died July 7, 2000, at Cape Elizabeth Nursing Home.
Born in Warsaw, Poland, she was the daughter of Stephen and Pauline Melta Maslowski. She came to the Portland area as a young child and attended local schools.
Virgilio worked in the family store in Portland until she married and began raising her children.
She was a long-time communicant of St. Louis Polish Church and a member of its women's society. She was also an active volunteer and fund raiser for the church. Virgilio helped organize the Polish suppers, holiday fairs and other parish activities.
Her husband, John Virgilio, died in 1978.
Family members include a daughter, Barbara Rines of Conway; three sons, James C. Virgilio of Portland, Dr. John P. Virgilio of Pennsauken, N.J., and Dr. Stephen P. Virgilio of Cape Elizabeth; 12 grandchildren including Kathleen Carruthers, Teresa Riddle and Gregory Rines of Conway and Thomas Rines of Vero Beach, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Louis Church, 279 Danforth Street, Portland, Maine 04102.

Gene Artis

Tamworth - Gene Artis, 56, died June 7, 2000 in Wolfeboro.
Artis had lived in Tamworth since 1994, having moved from Vineland, N.J.
He served his country with the U.S. Army from May 1968 to May 1970. He retired from the Willingboro, Va. school district after 28 years of service in June of 1994, where he was a teacher librarian with a master's degree plus 30 in library science. In New Hampshire, he worked for Carroll County Mental Health as an outreach worker and most recently he was a director in the Farmington library. He also held certificates in polarity therapy and reiki I and II.
He was active in chess since college and he held offices. He also wrote chess magazines and was active in playing bridge and in bowling.
His survivors include his wife Connie (Delp) Wastell Artis of Tamworth; a daughter, Lori A. Gaskill and a grandson from Williamsburg, Va.

John I. Jenness

BROWNFIELD, Maine - John I. Jenness, 86, of Route 160 in Brownfield, died July 7, 2000, at Bridgton Health Care Center.
He was born Nov. 22, 1913 in Wolfeboro, the son of Addie Cook and Irving Jenness.
Jenness was educated in Wolfeboro schools and Pigeonbrook School House of East Baldwin, Maine. He also went to the Boston Art School with Norman Rockwell and took art classes in Portland.
He was a self-employed carpenter and painter. He also worked at the Yield House of North Conway for 15 years, retiring in 1980.
Jenness was an avid reader. He also enjoyed scenery painting and woodworking.
Jenness was predeceased by one son, Harvey Jenness. Surviving family are his daughter, Lana Roberts of Woolwich, Maine; his son, William Jenness of Sublimity, Ore.; and several grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of his friends. Arrangements are by Neal & York Funeral Home of Kezar Falls.

Shirley Rae Walker Moon

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Shirley Rae Walker Moon, 81, past on during her afternoon nap on June 22, 2000 at Heartland Nursing Home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
She was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, daughter of Raymond A. Walker and Winnebelle Horne Severance. Attending Haverhill schools and graduating from Haverhill High School in 1936. She was also involved in Rainbow and Eastern Star as a young woman and helped her parents in their individual enterprises, Walker Letter Service and Cabin Trails Vacation Guide.
She made her home in Miami, Florida during World War II, returning to Haverhill while her husband, Jack R. Moon attended Boston University through the G.I. Bill. Upon his graduation the family returned to Miami, Florida where she resided until her illness in 1998 took her to Palm Beach Gardens.
An extensive trip through Europe during the Fall of 1962 provided Shirley with the impetus to start an importing business which through the years expanded into a fabric design and dress manufacturing enterprise doing business as Rae-Petersen, Ltd. She was always grateful to Carroll Reed, Joe Jones Ski Shop and Jack Frost Ski Shop for placing the first orders her fledgling business received in 1962. After thirty three years of growing her business into a nationally recognized label she retired in 1995.
One of Shirleys most successful sidelines and one she was very proud of was her skill at matchmaking. Understanding the loneliness of individuals who have lost their spouse or having never found one she founded the Singles Club at the Coral Gables Country Club in Miami, Florida. She was personally responsible for introducing over thirty couples who found happiness in marriage as well as providing a venue that still exists to date as a viable aspect of the country clubs varied programs.
She was an avid genealogist taking great pride in the fact that her ancestors could be traced to Haverhill as far back as the early 1600s. She was also proud to trace her lineage to Hannah Dustin a well known Haverhill heroine.
Shirley was pleased to support the Conway Area Humane Society by sponsoring one of the proposed cat rooms in honor of her beloved cat Hindy Ming and dog Freckles. She has also provided generous sums to Jens Friends to be used to provide assistance to Breast Cancer patients and to Gifts From the Heart 03860 to be used so that no woman denies herself access to a mammogram due to insufficient funds.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Moon Stankard and husband Harold Stankard of Jupiter, Florida and her daughter Janice Moon Crawford and husband James E. Crawford of Porter, Maine. She is also survived by three grandchildren Jennifer Hill DelaGarza, Jeffrey Hill and Jaimie Eaton Crawford.
Calling hours will be on July 10 at 10 a.m. at the Dole and Childs Funeral Home in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Funeral services will commence at 11 a.m. The burial will follow at the Linwood Cemetery in Haverhill. Massachusetts.

Jeanne (Stocks) Wentworth

West Ossipee - Jeanne (Stocks) Wentworth, 72, died July 6, 2000 at her home after a long illness. She lived in West Ossipee since 1995.
Wentworth was born in South Hiram, Maine and lived in Goffstown for 25 years. She later moved to Squam Lake where she managed the West Winds Cottages for 12 years, until moving to Amherst.
She was active in the Girl Scouts and the Methodist Church in Goffstown. She loved the outdoors, camping and most importantly, her family. She was very active in the mother's club in Goffstown, as well as RSVP.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Gordon "Bud" Wentworth, Jr. of West Ossipee; her three children, Paul F. Wentworth, Peter S. Wentworth and Pamela Jeanne Farnum, all of Weare; two grandchildren; three sisters, Joanne Hartford of Cornish, Maine, Nancy Smith of Parsonfield, Maine and Janet Richardson of Bridgton; a half brother, Philip Fadden of South Hiram; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Saturday, July 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home on 50 Moultonville Road in Center Ossipee. Burial will be later in the week at the Forest Glade Cemetery in Somersworth.

Jason T. R. Notargiacomo

JACKSON - Jason T. R. Notargiacomo, 21, of Jackson, died suddenly on Friday, June 30, 2000.
He was born in Bridgton, Maine, on Jan. 7, 1979. Jason was best known for his sense of humor and his artistic abilities. Jason loved cooking and was very musically inclined.
He is survived by his father, Donald Notargiacomo of Newburyport, Mass.; his mother and step-father, Shirlie and Steven Perry of Jackson; one daughter, Colby; one brother, Channing Perry of Jackson; three sisters, Summer Perry of Jackson, Cally Notargiacomo and Kyla Notargiacomo both of Newburyport, Mass., his maternal grandmother, Jean Eaton of Salisbury, Mass.; his paternal grandfather, Richard T. Eaton of Center Ossipee; his step-grandmother, Lelia Eaton of Center Ossipee; his great-grandmother, Shirley Battles of East Kingston; and cousins, aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Educational Resources Jason Fund, 102 North State Street, Concord 03301.

Leonard E. Vail

EFFINGHAM - Leonard E. Vail, 79, of Townhouse Road, died June 15, 2000, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
He was born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of the late Garfield A. and Frances (Thoms) Vail. He attended schools in Brighton, Mass., and later worked as "jack of all trades." He worked for Lewis & Shepherd until 1960, and he owned and operated the Sunset Acres Rest Home in Hampstead until he retired in 1975.
Mr. Vail served as a private in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Army Corps of Engineers. He was also a member of the Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed country western music, playing the guitar professionally in Boston and all over New England for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Vail, of Effingham; two sons, Donald E. Vail, of Auburn, and Garfield "Gary" Vail, of Pascagula, Miss.; two daughters, Carolyn Vail, of Denver, Colo., and Frances L. Vail-Sheldon, of Troy; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Gaudet, of North Berwick, Maine.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held today, Monday, at 11 a.m. in the Woodland Cemetery, Effingham.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.
Lord Funeral Home in Center Ossipee is in charge of arrangements.
