Catherine M. Kezer

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Catherine M. (Hemmer) Kezer, 95, of 346 Pleasant St., and formerly of 4 Mount Vernon St., Dover, were held on Saturday from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. Edward J. Kelley, pastor, was the celebrant, and altar server was Richie Curry. Placing of the pall was done by Patty Smith and Peggy Franceschini. The crucifix was placed on the casket by daughter Eleanor Streeter. Presentation of the gifts was done by Natalie Smith and Eleanor Streeter. Readings were given by Nel Leading and Melissa Smith. Susan Bove was the vocalist, and Marion Arnoldy was the organist.

In attendance were communicants of the church, including members of the Bereavement Committee.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, in Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Kelley.

Bearers were John Leaming, Jeff Kelly, Paul Franceschini, Tony Streeter, James Smith and Allen Smith.

Wake services were held at the funeral home on Friday evening by the Rev. Kelley.

Betty J. Scales

HOLLIS - Betty Jane (Witham) Scales, of 42 Pierce Lane, died at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack on Friday evening, Oct. 26, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Portsmouth on Nov. 20, 1940, daughter of the late Walter I. and Frances (Butler) Witham. A resident of Hollis for the past 25 years, she had previously lived in Hampton and Stratham.

She was the wife of Samuel W. Scales of Hollis.

She had worked for Sears for many years before she opened her own business. She owned and operated the Printwell Copy Shop in Dracut, Mass., for 17 years until her retirement last year.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed. She enjoyed traveling and sailing and always had a smile.

She was educated in Exeter and graduated from Exeter High School in the Class of 1959.

In addition to her husband of 38 years, survivors include two sons, Richard Scales and his friend Susan of Waltham, Mass., and Brian Scales and his wife, Jennifer, of Merrimack; a grandson, Eric Scales of Milford; a sister, Marjorie Fisher and her husband, Robert, of Eliot, Maine; a brother, Walter R. Witham and his wife, Janice, of Portsmouth; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Albert and Paula Scales of Merrimack and Cornelius and Sylvia Moynahan of Eliot, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

SCALES - Betty Jane (Witham) Scales, of 42 Pierce Lane, Hollis, died on Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, in Merrimack. Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St., Nashua. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Davis Funeral Home. Friends are invited to attend. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider: Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH 03054; American Cancer Society, Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701; or American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101. Ramona T. Sedoric

EXETER - Ramona Trout Sedoric, a RiverWoods resident and civic leader, died on Friday, Oct. 26, 2001.

She was born in a log cabin in Lawson, Mo., to Hazel D. Trout and Clyde S. Trout. She attended local schools and worked the family farm with her father and older brother, James Truman Trout. Sedoric attended Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. She enjoyed a gift of considerable strength and beauty and often graced and enlivened dance contests and pageants in the early 1940s. Before World War II, she worked in the U.S. Department of Agriculture as fellow Missourian Harry S. Truman became a senator and later the vice president. After Truman became president, Sedoric served in the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C.

After the war, she moved to the Chicago area, where she met and married John Sedoric. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on Oct. 5, 2001, with friends and family at RiverWoods.

John, Ramona and their son, Tom, spent many years in Beloit, Wisc. There she devoted her time, energy and talent to the United Way, YWCA, Beloit Hospital, Junior Women's Club and The First Congregational Church. She later worked for Beloit College and as a residential Realtor in Columbus, Ohio, during retirement. She and her husband also resided in Pinerolo, Italy, and Libery, Mo., during their many years together.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John, of Exeter; her dearly loved son, Tom, and daughter-in-law, Barb, of Rye Beach; grandchildren Holly and Boone Davis and Annie Sedoric; as well as many friends and other family members who will miss her engaging smile and her zest for life.

SEDORIC - Ramona Trout Sedoric, of RiverWoods of Exeter, died on Friday, Oct. 26, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, in the Great Bay Room at RiverWoods of Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Seacoast Hospice or to The Seacoast Young Team (a bicycle team devoted to raising funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) at 170 Commerce Way, Suite 202, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

William J. Gourley

LARGO, Fla. - William J. Gourley, 86, died Oct. 25, 2001, at Largo Medical Center.

Born in Dedham, Mass., he had lived in Florida more than 25 years, having moved from Portsmouth.

He had been employed as a truck driver and plant manager for ESSO/Exxon in Portsmouth for more than 30 years.

He was a member of the Four Seasons Community Club. He was also a Mason.

Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Sullivan of Wrentham, Mass.; one son, W. Dennis Gourley and his wife, Elaine, of Hudson; two granddaughters, Cheryl Heald and Michele Chamberlain; two great-granddaughters, Jillian Heald and Mackenzie Chamberlain; and several nieces and nephews.

John F. Cullity

TILTON - John Francis "Jack" Cullity, 71, a prominent local attorney and athlete, died at the N.H. Veterans Home, following a long illness.

He was born in Manchester on Nov. 8, 1929, and was the son of Ellinor (Neilsen) (Cullity) Sheehan and Francis X. Cullity, who died in 1931. His stepfather was Attorney John J. Sheehan, whom his mother married in 1943. He resided in Goffstown and spent many happy summers in Moultonborough. He had been a resident of the N.H. Veterans Home for the past two years.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School for Boys, New Hampton Prep School, and the College of the Holy Cross, with the Class of 1952.

Upon graduation from college, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of captain. He was a combat veteran of the Korean conflict and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the U.N. Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. When his tour of duty was completed, he went on to Boston College and Boston University Law School, from which he earned a law degree.

He was a successful trial lawyer in the Granite State for more than forty years, initially at the firm of Sheehan, Phinney, Bass and Green, and then with his own firm of Cullity, Kelley and McDowell, P.A. He was a lawyer for the common people and was noted for the pro bono work he performed on behalf of people in trouble who needed legal assistance.

Possessed of an outstanding athletic ability himself, Cullity loved all sports, but football was his passion. He enjoyed a three-letter career at the old St. Joseph's High School, where he captained the football team. He went on to a notable career as a two-way football player at Holy Cross under both Coach Bill Ozmanski and Coach Dr. Eddy Anderson. Defensive captain in his senior year, he capped his college career with an appearance in the Blue and Gray Game in Atlanta, Ga. While serving in the military, he played for the Quantico Marines in Virginia. Jack also volunteered his services in his spare time as an assistant football coach at the former Bishop Bradley High School. Attorney Cullity was inducted into the Queen City Athletic Hall of Fame in the summer of 2001.

He was a member of the N.H. Bar Association, the Holy Cross Alumni Association and the Marine Corps League. In addition, he was a member of the Lakes Region Detachment and the Elks Club.

Family members include four daughters, Mrs. Anasthase (Lizbeth) Cullity Vieux of Haiti and Sierra Leone, Africa, Mrs. Douglass (Lauren A.) Cullity Sanford of Shapleigh, Maine, Mrs. David (Kristin) Cullity Stewart of South Salem, N.Y., and Mrs. Douglas (Karin) Cullity Nelson of Rye, and their mother, Anne Cullity; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Karen Sheehan Lord of Manchester, Susan Pearsall of Northfield, and Mary Sheehan-Moore of Parkton, Md.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

CULLITY - John Francis "Jack" Cullity, 71, died at the N.H. Veterans Home in Tilton, following a long illness. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Lambert Funeral Home and Crematory, 1799 Elm St., at the corner of North Street, in Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Joseph Cathedral, Pine Street, Manchester. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford. Memorial donations may be made to the Lakes Region Conservation Trust, P.O. Box 1097, Meredith, NH 03253-1097. Patricia Chase

CAPE NEDDICK, Maine - Patricia Chase, 67, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at her home, comforted by her family, following a courageous fight with cancer.

Born May 31, 1934, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Samuel and Elsie (Kimball) Furber. She was a 1952 graduate of York High School and a 1955 graduate of the Beverly School of Nursing in Beverly, Mass.

She was employed for several years at York Hospital as an R.N. and for three years as an office nurse for Dr. Willard Bunker. She then became the nurse for York Elementary School, where she worked for 12 years, retiring in 1986. In her later years, she served as a private duty nurse before joining the Jarvis family as a nanny for Rebecca.

She was a loving, generous person, always putting others before herself. She loved to spend her free time with her family at their camp on Highland Lake. She also loved working in her rock garden. Sharing her love and excitement for the holidays with those she loved was an important part of her life. She was a member of the Cape Neddick Baptist Church and a sister in the Sarah Orne Jewett #176 Order of the Easter Star and was active in the York Athletic Boosters at York High School.

She was the devoted wife of Chester M. Chase, of Cape Neddick, for 46 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Crystal Butler and her husband, Dave, of York, Maine, and Lisa Masters and her husband, Dana, of Bridgton, Maine; one son, Jeffrey Chase and his wife, Jane, of York, Maine; eight grandchildren, Nicholas and Jessica Butler; Samantha, Lucas, Benjamin and Nicholas Masters; and Cassandra and Tanner Chase; one brother, Carter Furber and his wife, Carolyn, of York, Maine; a sister-in-law, Carol Furber, of Houston, Texas; and three nieces and nephews.

CHASE - Patricia Furber Chase, of Cape Neddick, Maine, died Oct. 28, 2001, in Cape Neddick. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, in the First Parish Congregational Church, York Street, York. Visiting hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Neddick Baptist Church, P.O. Box 220, Cape Neddick, ME 03902.

Anna Vinciguerra

HAMPTON - The funeral for Anna Vinciguerra, 93, formerly of Portsmouth and North Hampton, who died on Oct. 24, 2001, was held Saturday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. Michael J. Griffin, senior priest, was the celebrant. The Rev. John B. MacKenzie was acolyte, and Edward Wakeen was altar server. Nelson K. Ward was the organist, and Patricia Mackensen was the soloist.

Grandchildren extended the pall over the casket and offered the readings and eulogy. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth, with the Rite of Committal conducted by the Rev. Griffin. Pallbearers were David Hardy, Frank Vinciguerra, Philip Vinciguerra, Frank Warchol, John O'Connell and Clint England.

Carlyle F. Randall

RYE - Carlyle F. Randall, 88, of 100 Harbor Road, died peacefully at his home on Oct. 29, 2991.

Born in Seabrook on Oct. 26, 1913, he was the son of the late Carroll F. and Frances (Watson) Randall. He attended Seabrook schools and graduated from Amesbury, Mass., High School.

For most of his working years, he was employed in the shoe industry. He left a job in a local shoe factory to learn shoe machinery repair and traveled New England at this trade. As a young man he started a shoe-stitching room and for many years managed shoe factories in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. He was well-known in New England as a superintendent who could turn a struggling factory into a productive business.

An avid cook, he opened a small diner in Salisbury, Mass., soon after he graduated from high school, and during the 1960s he and his family operated Randall's Rye Harbor Lobster Pound and Motel. He was known for the clambakes that he prepared for family groups and organizations.

He owned many boats and spent hours deep-sea fishing, turning his catch into tasty fish chowders. He was a long-time member of the Katahdin Club of Amesbury and was a founder and past president of the Hampton River Boat Club.

A 46-year resident of Rye Harbor, he was married for 52 years to Virginia (Chase) Randall, who died in 1991.

He is survived by his son, Peter, and his wife, Judith, of Eliot, Maine; his daughter, Susan, and her husband, Dennis Kepner, of Hampton; grandchildren Deidre and her son, Kael, of Eliot, Maine, and Davis and Katelyn and her daughter, Sylvia, all of Eugene, Ore.; his sister, Janet Fitzgerald of Hampton; and many nieces and nephews.

RANDALL - Carlyle F. Randall, 88, of 100 Harbor Road, Rye, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at the Randall home in Rye Harbor. The family requests there be no visiting hours, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. Assistance with the arrangements was by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory.

Grace E. Dexter

PORTSMOUTH - Grace Edith (Nelson) Dexter, 82, of 140 Court St., A-401, died on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Sunbridge Rehabilitation and Care Facility in Rochester, after a brief illness.

Born December 2, 1918, in Boston, Mass., she was a daughter of George O.E. and Grace L. (Faulkner) Nelson. Raised in Quincy, Mass., she graduated from Quincy North High School in 1936. She was a past Worthy Adviser for the Wollaston Order of Rainbow for Girls. Grace married Walter A. Dexter in Wollaston, Mass., in August 1940. In the late 1950s she moved to Weymouth, Mass. Eventually, in 1974, Grace settled in Portsmouth.

During World War II, she worked for the U.S. Navy Department at the Quincy Shipyard, Quincy, Mass. Later she worked for the Veterans Services Department for the city of Quincy as a clerk typist. She also worked for South Shore Heating Company and Alston Studios in Weymouth, Mass.; McAuliffe and Burke Company in Dorchester, Mass.; and College Town Inc. in Braintree, Mass. After relocating to Portsmouth, she was employed by the Green Thumb Senior Citizens Program at Portsmouth City Hall.

She was the loving mother of Elaine R. (Dexter) Morganella and her husband, Joseph D. Morganella, of Somersworth, and a grandmother of Deirdre M. Morganella and Jeffery R. Morganella of Somersworth. She is also survived by her former husband and lifelong friend, Walter A. Dexter, of Quincy, Mass., and her nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Virginia L. Nelson; and her brothers, Judge George F. and Robert K. Nelson.

DEXTER - Grace Edith (Nelson) Dexter, 82, of Portsmouth, died on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Sunbridge Rehabilitation and Care Facility in Rochester. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. Theresa Drouin

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Theresa "Tee-Tee" Drouin, 96, of Elm Street, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Sentry Hill Nursing in York.

Born in Fort Kent, Maine, on April 10, 1905, she was a daughter of Vital and Alma Nadeau Bouchard and attended schools in Fort Kent.

She was a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Church and had been employed in York Mills for several years.

She and her husband, Emile Drouin, who died in 1985, owned and operated Drouin's Sand & Gravel for 40 years.

She was a past member of Saint Francis Guild, St. Francis College, Notre Dame Hospital Auxiliary and Saint Andre's Home. Also, she was a life member of the Daughters of Isabella, an honorary member of the Biddeford and Saco Rotary Club and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International award.

Survivors include her son, Ronald Drouin of Kennebunkport and Biddeford, Maine, with whom she resided; one brother, Leon Bouchard of Eaton Town, N.J.; one sister, Josephine Eaton of Mansfield, Conn.; and a grandniece, Kimberly Drouin.

DROUIN - Theresa "Tee-Tee" Drouin, 96, of Biddeford, Maine, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Sentry Hill Nursing in York. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cote Funeral Home, Beach and James streets, in Saco, Maine. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday from Most Holy Trinity Church, Saco. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

GEIGER - Sophie J. Geiger, of Portsmouth, died Oct. 16, 2001. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Summer Street. Friends are invited.

Regina R. Brake

KITTERY, Maine - Regina R. Brake, 48, of 28 Cutts Road, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at York Hospital after a long illness.

She was born in Kittery, Maine, on June 23, 1953, a daughter of Clyde A. and Dorothy (Stickles) St. Jock, and was a 1971 graduate of Portsmouth High School.

She had formerly worked at Watts Fluid Air in Kittery and as the office manager at Newco Credit Union at Simplex Wire and Cable of Newington. She had also worked in the office at Hanscom Truck Stop and Schultz Provisions. Most recently, for the past six years, she had been a cashier at the Pine Tree Country Store in Kittery.

She enjoyed knitting, making crafts and working on her computer. She was known for making Christmas stockings for her family, friends and co-workers and filling them with items for the holidays.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Arthur W. "Buz" Brake Jr. of Kittery; two sons, Warren H. Brake and Mathew D. Brake, both of Kittery; her mother, Dorothy J. St. Jock of Portsmouth, N.H.; one brother, David A. St. Jock of Dover, N.H.; two sisters, Lorre Bossie of Greenland, N.H., and Rene Bernier of East Lebanon, Maine; two sisters-in-law, Jerry DeWitt of Kittery Point and Jeannette Barto of North Carolina; three brothers-in-law, Steve Brake of Lebanon, Maine, Jeffery Brake of Kittery and Bill Brake of Texas; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

BRAKE - Regina R. Brake, 48, of 28 Cutts Road, Kittery, Maine, wife of Arthur "Buz" Brake Jr., died Oct. 29, 2001, in York, Maine. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, at Route 1-A, in Kittery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Maine Children's Cancer Program, 100 U.S. Route 1, Unit 107, Scarborough, ME 04074.

Rev. Clifford Laws

NORTH CONWAY - Funeral services for the Rev. Clifford Laws, who died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Congregational Church of Kittery Point in Maine. The Rev. Jill Voight, pastor, conducted the service. Organist was Michael Cooper. Prior to the services, the family of the Rev. Laws had a time of quiet reflection at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home in Kittery.

A graveside committal service and burial followed services in the First Congregational Cemetery, Kittery Point. The Rev. Voight recited committal prayers. Pallbearers were John Tanguay, James Doughty, Brian Paradis and Jim Earle, as well as two of the Rev. Laws' grandsons: Roger Howard and Eric Anderson.

An American flag was presented to the Rev. Laws' daughter, Janet, in honor of her father's faithful military service.

Family and friends gathered in the parish hall for a time of reflection, sharing memories and refreshments after the funeral.
