Dorothy Roy

STRATHAM - Dorothy Roy, 67, formerly of Kittery, Maine, died unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, in Emporia, Va.

She was born on March 9, 1934, in Jersey City, N.J., the daughter of the late Louis and Catherine (Caralyan) Bernstein. She attended local schools.

She later lived in the Stratham and Portsmouth areas but also lived for many years in Kittery along with her late husband, Joseph, who predeceased her in 1997. They were married in January 1953.

She owned and operated "Home Bodies," a residential cleaning service in the Kittery area, from 1983 to 1996. In her leisure time, she enjoyed bingo, many enjoyable trips to the Foxwoods resort, cooking, and planting flowers and plants. Most of all, however, she enjoyed her family and her beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons: Joseph Roy of Stratham and Michael Roy of Kittery; two daughters: Jeannine Mazeika of Acton, Maine, and Nadine Hodgdon of Strafford; a brother, Arthur Bernstein of Kittery; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

She will also be missed by her many friends in New Hampshire, Maine and Florida.

ROY - Dorothy Roy, 67, of Stratham, formerly of Kittery, Maine, died on Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, in Emporia, Va. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery. The Rev. Real Nadeau, pastor of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Kittery, will conduct services. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of the funeral. Burial will take place in Orchard Grove Cemetery, Kittery. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division Inc., 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011.

Patricia Titus

ELIOT, Maine - Patricia Titus, 57, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born June 26, 1944, in Portsmouth, N.H., the daughter of the late Kenneth Titus, who died in 1999, and Florence (Jackson) Titus of Kittery, Maine. She grew up in the Kittery area and lived most of her life in Eliot. She worked for 21 years at Pratt and Whitney in North Berwick as an assistant paymaster, a job she enjoyed and worked very hard at.

Besides her mother, she is survived by her longtime companion, Linda Ross of Eliot; and her cherished cousins: Gloria Teague of Portsmouth, John Titus of Reading, Mass., Robert Jones of Dalzell, S.C., and Harry Parker of Williamsburg, Va. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and former co-workers in the Kittery and Eliot area.

TITUS - A graveside service for Patricia Titus, 57, who died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Maine Medical Center, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Brooks Memorial Cemetery in Eliot, Maine. An hour of visitation will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Animal Welfare Society Inc., Old Holland Road, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094-0043.

Patricia C. McNamara

RYE - Patricia C. McNamara, 74, of 55 Big Rock Road, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.

She was born in Manchester on Dec. 18, 1926, the daughter of the late George Caron and Mary (Walsh) Caron, a former New Hampshire state senator.

She was a graduate of Manchester West High School and attended the University of New Hampshire.

She spent her summers in Rye for many years, moving to town as a year-round resident in 1991. She had lived many years in Wilmington, Mass., where she was a member of the League of Women Voters and the Wilmington Women's Club. She was a communicant of St. Theresa Church at Rye Beach.

Family members include her husband of 54 years, Raymond A. McNamara; five sons, Joseph McNamara of Kittery, Maine, Stephen McNamara of Londonderry, Michael McNamara of San Francisco, Calif., Raymond McNamara, Jr., of Derry and Patrick McNamara of Exeter; one daughter, Margaret Hart of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

A brother, Donald Caron, predeceased her.

McNAMARA - Patricia C. McNamara, 74, of 55 Big Rock Road, Rye, died on Nov. 17, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, on Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Central Cemetery, Rye. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 10 Ferry St., STE 419, Concord, NH 03301.

Walter H. Kimball

KITTERY POINT, Maine - A funeral was held on Nov. 15, 2001, for Walter H. Kimball of Brave Boat Harbor Road. He died Nov. 11, 2001. The service was held at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery. The Rev. Graham Alvord officiated, and Kimball's daughter, Cheryl, reflected on her father's life. The service continued at the First Parish Cemetery in York, where the Rev. Alvord offered committal prayers. Arrangements were entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery.

John Baptiste Despres Jr.

YORK, Maine - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for John Baptiste Despres Jr., who died on Nov. 11, 2001, in York. The service was held on Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at St. Raphael Church in Kittery, with the Rev. Real Nadeau officiating. Gifts to the altar were presented by his sister and brother. The congregation was led in song by the church choir accompanied by organist Alfred "Butch" Lapointe. The service continued at Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth, N.H., with the Rev. Nadeau offering a committal service. Following the burial, friends and family gathered at the church for a time of sharing. Services were entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery.

Peter Nowik

PORTSMOUTH - Maj. Peter Nowik, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), 87, husband of Louise (Steff) Nowik, of 575 Ocean Road, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Sunbridge of Portsmouth.

He was born in Nashua on May 1, 1914, the son of James and Anne (Salick) Nowik. He was a graduate of Nashua High School, and he served as a communications officer in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and Korea, retiring at Pease Air Force Base in 1960 after 21 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Scott Nowik and John Peter Nowik, both of Portsmouth; and one daughter, Wanda Nowik, of Randolph, Mass.

NOWIK - Maj. Peter Nowik, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), 87, of 575 Ocean Road, Portsmouth, died Nov. 17, 2001. Graveside services at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24 at Harmony Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth. Friends invited. No visiting hours. Arrangements by the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel.

Franklin Emery

ELIOT, Maine - A funeral service was held on Nov. 17, 2001, for Franklin "Peanut" Emery, who died in Eliot on Nov. 14, 2001. The service was held at the First Congregational Church of Eliot, with the Rev. Dr. David Avery officiating. The congregation was led in some of Emery's favorite hymns by organist Sue Utoh. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot, with the Rev. Avery offering prayers. Following the services, friends and family met at Macpherson Hall for a time of refreshment and sharing. Arrangements were entrusted to the J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery.

Anne Delude

SANFORD, Maine - Anne (Coffey) Delude, 58, of 17 Washington St., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Greenwood Manor after a long illness.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Nov. 13, 1943, she was the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Ford) Coffey and was a resident of the Seacoast for most of her life before moving to Sanford six years ago.

She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, with the Class of 1962.

She was employed as a certified nursing assistant at the former Home for Aged Women in Portsmouth and had also worked private duty for many years. She was a member of the Chit/Chat Club.

Survivors include her husband John Delude of Sanford; three sons, David Melanson and his wife Barbara of Sanford, Jeff Melanson and his wife Kim of Eliot, and Steven Delude of Amesbury, Mass; two daughters, Deborah Marrama and her husband Steve of Fremont, N.H., and Stephanie Delude of York, Maine; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Coffey of Hampton, N.H., and Michael Coffey of Portsmouth, N.H; as well as several nieces and nephews.

DELUDE - Anne (Coffey) Delude, 58, of Sanford, Maine, died Nov. 17, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Rye. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central New England Chapter, 101A First Ave., Suite No. 6, Waltham, MA 02451.

Juliette B. Tewksbury

DOVER - Juliette B. Tewksbury, 86, of 504 Central Towers, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Harbor Home in York, Maine.

She was born in Berlin on March 1, 1915, the daughter of the late Robert and Odila (Goudreau) Lefrancois.

She was raised in Berlin and had resided in Dover for many years, after moving from Portsmouth. She worked as a quality control inspector at the Davidson Rubber Company for 24 years before retiring in 1983. She was a member of the AARP.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lee. B. Tewksbury, Sr., who died in 1967; a son, Donald L. Tewksbury, who died in 1958, and by a stepson, Richard Tewksbury, who died in 1996.

Family members include one daughter, Barbara T. Lefrancois of Orlando, Fla.; three sons, Robert A. Tewksbury, Sr., of Dover, Lee B. Tewksbury, Jr., of York, Maine, and Robert E. Lefrancois Burbank of Pasquog, R.I.; one brother, Renee Lefrancois of Berlin; one sister, Blanche Begin of Berlin; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

TEWKSBURY - Juliette B. Tewksbury, 86, of 504 Central Towers, Dover, died Nov. 14, 2001. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, in the Greenwood Cemetery, Stratham. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests there be no visiting hours, and flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, c/o Record, Bektash Temple, P.O. Box 7252, Concord, NH 03301; or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688. Arrangements by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory in Hampton.

Gerald W. Berounsky Jr.

BERWICK, Maine - A well attended memorial service was held on Nov. 17, 2001, for Gerald W. Berounsky Jr., of Pine Hill Road, who died on Nov. 11, 2001. The service was held at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery, with the Rev. Dr. David Avery officiating. Family and friends gathered for a time of sharing and remembrance at the home of his sister, Sharon and Gregg Jassmond.

William B. Chorman

EXETER - William B. Chorman, 82, of Sherwood Forest, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Sunbridge Nursing Home in Exeter after a brief illness.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1919, in East Pittsburgh, Pa., one of eight children, son of the late Paul and Ann (Moros) Chorman.

After high school, he worked for U.S. Steel and spent three years in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Sheffield, Pa.

He got married in Rockland, Maine, while serving in the U.S. Army. Later he was sent to Europe in the 5th Armored Division during World War II. After the war, he worked as a sprinkler draftsman in Portland, Maine. He then moved to California and started working for General Motors and the Long Beach Naval Yard. He moved back to the East and worked for Westinghouse in Turtle Creek, Pa. He then moved back to Maine, where he worked as a car salesman in Portland and later as an electrical draftsman at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the V.F.W. of Portsmouth and the American Legion chapter of Newmarket and Exeter.

A special thanks to John Dow of Exeter, Dr. Mark Reiner, Exeter Hospital, Exeter ambulance crews and Sunbridge for all their help.

He is survived by one son, William P. Chorman of Exeter; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

CHORMAN - William B. Chorman, 82, of Exeter, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Private burial will be in Orchard Grove Cemetery in Kittery, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice.

Helen Cook

KITTERY, Maine - Helen (Pruett) Cook, 83, of Meetinghouse Village, 143 Rogers Road, wife of the late Norman A. Cook, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at York Hospital.

Born in Kittery on Jan. 13, 1918, a daughter of Elmer R. and Ruth C. (Philbrick) Pruett, she was a lifelong resident of Kittery, attending local schools and graduating from R.W. Traip Academy and Burdett College. She was a secretary, employed for several years in Boston and later at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

She was a member of the Second Christian Congregational Church in Kittery, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Old York chapter), National Association of Retired Federal Employees (Agamenticus chapter), Kittery Historical Society, the 1918 Club, and the former Riverside Women's Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine and her husband Lawrence Hansberry of Kittery; a brother, Joseph A. Pruett of Wilmington, Del.; a grandson, David M. Hansberry of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Jefferson S. Cook, in 1968; and by a grandson, Bruce R. Hansberry in 1992; as well as two brothers, Richard E. and Kenneth S. Pruett; and a sister, Muriel Perry.

COOK - Helen (Pruett) Cook, 83, of Meetinghouse Village, 143 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at York Hospital. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, from the Second Christian Congregational Church on Government Street. Friends and family may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/U.S. Route 1 Bypass, Kittery, Maine, 03904. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to the Kittery Lions Club, c/o Mrs. Donald Smith, treasurer, 30 Philbrick Road, Kittery, Maine, 03904, or to the Rice Public Library. Arrangement are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, Kittery.

Wendy S. Desmond

EXETER - The funeral for Wendy S. Desmond, 47, of 82 High St., was held Monday from the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter. Services were held at the Congregational Church, Exeter. The Rev. Wesley Burwell, chaplain of the Seacoast Hospice, officiated. Words of remembrance were offered by her husband, Tom Kline, and a poem was read by her daughter, Abigail. Burial was private.

Jean E. Andreae

DUNEDIN, Fla. - Jean E. Andreae, 78, a former resident of Rye, N.H., died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, in Dunedin. She was a volunteer for the Portsmouth Hospital and Strawbery Banke. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Col. Andreas A. Andreae, first base commander of Pease Air Force Base, now living in Dunedin; a son, Robert A. Andreae of Fairfax, Va.; a daughter, Kathleen L. Andreae of Chandler, Ariz.; and a granddaughter, Kristin M. Carter.

ANDREAE - Jean E. Andreae, 78, of Dunedin, Fla., a former resident of Rye, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, in Dunedin. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Curlew Hills Funeral Home in Florida. Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to D.C.C. Foundation of the Dunedin Country Club, 1050 Palm Blvd., Dunedin, FL 34698.

Juliette B. Tewksbury

DOVER - Juliette B. Tewksbury, 86, of 504 Central Towers, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at the Harbor Home in York, Maine.

Mary J. Pouliot

HAVERHILL, Mass. - Mary Jane (Hession) Pouliot, 71, died at her home Monday morning, Nov. 19, 2001, after a lengthy illness.

She was the wife of the late Donat A. Pouliot.

Born in Boston on June 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Anne (Loring) Hession of Amesbury, Mass., and was a graduate of Amesbury High School, Class of 1944.

For many years she worked for the New England Telephone Company as an operator in its Amesbury office. For the past 25 years, she was a telephone operator at Lawrence General Hospital, retiring this past June.

She was an active member of St. Joseph's Church of Amesbury and served as president of its women's club for several years.

She is survived by her son, Charles J. Pouliot and his wife, Teri, of Hampstead, N.H.; her daughter, Donna A. Mercer, of Hampton Falls, N.H.; four grandchildren, Shawn and Meagan Mercer of Hampton, Chantel Lucas of Kingston, N.H., and Christopher DeSimone of Hampstead; and several nieces and cousins.

POULIOT - Mary Jane (Hession) Pouliot, 71, of Haverhill, Mass., wife of the late Donat A. Pouliot, died on Nov. 19, 2001. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Holy Family Parish's St. Joseph's Church, School Street, Amesbury, Mass. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Amesbury, will be private. By request of the family, there will be no calling hours. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury.
