PORTSMOUTH - Philip C. Primmerman, 53, of 209 Jones Ave., died peacefully of esophageal cancer at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at 5:25 p.m., with his family by his side.

He was born June 7, 1948, in Portsmouth, to Philip and Pauline Primmerman. He graduated from Portsmouth High School and went to work for the city of Portsmouth at Peirce Island as a treatment plant operator. He was vice president of Primmerman Trucking until 1974. At that time he became president and worked full-time running the family construction business.

As a family man, Phil adored his mother, brothers, sisters, wife and children. The way he cherished his loved ones was reflected in the depths of their love as it was returned to Phil. There was a mutual respect, honesty, and, above all, patience with one another, plenty of laughter and rivers of tears as they all went through life's good and bad times. No matter what, Phil always was there for anyone who needed him. Through his years of hard work he created a rich, wonderful life and legacy for his family. He told his loved ones how he felt every day. A day couldn't pass where you weren't told you were loved by him. The way he touched us, the way he looked at us with those big, blue eyes, the way he held us close and kept us safe is the way we remember him. We honor him in love and in our lives.

He was in harmony with nature, surrounded by his loves and at peace in the sanctuary of his home.

He is survived by his mother, Pauline Primmerman of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his siblings, Janet Boucher of Georgia, Pauline Richards of St. Petersburg, Fla., Tony Primmerman of South Berwick, Maine, and Vickie Primmerman of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his wife, Suzanne Primmerman of Rye Beach; daughters Ann Wiggin of Hampton Beach and Julie Primmerman and Jennifer Martinez, both of Portsmouth; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his devoted nephew, Jack Gobbi of Rye. He also leaves behind his beloved companion, Ramona Patterson of Portsmouth, and his dog Cyndi.

His father, Philip Primmerman, brother Thomas Primmerman, and his cat Tootsie predeceased him.

The family wishes to thank Seacoast Hospice for its professionalism, tenderness and compassion during this difficult time. Andrew, Ruth, Ann, Greg, Gina, Margaret, you were a comfort to him and his family, and our hearts will always have a measure of peace due to your loving care.
