George Storm

KINGSTON - George "Jerry" Storm, M.D., 68, died February 6, 2002 at Exeter Healthcare after gracefully coming to terms with cancer.

A pediatrician who specialized in behavioral and developmental pediatrics, Jerry lived and practiced in southeastern New Hampshire for more than 35 years. He was well known as an advocate for children with ADD, ADHD and other learning and behavioral disabilities. Through the care of his patients and the education of parents, teachers and professionals, he had a significant impact on the lives of many children and families, locally and around the country.

Throughout his life Jerry never sat still. His longtime favorite activities included jazz piano, reading, paddle tennis and tennis, downhill and cross-country skiing, nature hikes, swimming and clearing trails in the woods, but he was also always learning something new. Over the years he took up photography, flyfishing, yoga, solo canoeing, refinishing furniture and learning to fly.

Above all else, in professional and social settings, Jerry was known as a compassionate man, who always had time to listen and to understand. He cherished lively conversations with his old and new friends and sharing his many interests and activities with others.

He leaves his wife, Elizabeth, of Kingston; two sons from his marriage to Jane Storm, of Brentwood, Thacher Storm and Anthony Storm, both of Boxford, Mass.; two grandchildren; three sisters: Sally Lockee, of LaGrange, Tenn., Mary Allen, of Philadelphia, Pa., and Elsie Wilmerding, of Boston; and his ever-present Labrador, Heidi.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Brewitt Funeral Home of Exeter.

STORM - George "Jerry" Storm, M.D., 68, of Kingston, N.H., died February 6, 2002. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 23, at 1 p.m., at Phillips Church, on the corner of Tan Lane and Front Street in Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Dr. Storm's name to Wedico Children's Services, 266 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02116.

Elizabeth Stone

PORTSMOUTH - Elizabeth (Shinberg) Stone, widow of Maurice Stone, of 188 Jones Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at SunBridge of Portsmouth.

One of eight children, she was born in Lawrence, Mass., the daughter of Israel and Goldie Shinberg.

She was a member of Temple Israel, the temple's sisterhood, and Hadassah.

In 1942, during World War II, she and her husband purchased a grocery store in Exeter and operated it for eight years.

In 1950, she and her husband opened the Stone Clothing Store in Exeter, which was in business for 49 years.

She is survived by one son, Ira M. Stone and his wife, Veta Stone, of Seabrook; one granddaughter, Marcia Baron of Stratham; two great-granddaughters, Mollie Baron and Meredith Baron, both of Stratham; and several nieces and nephews.

STONE - Elizabeth (Shinberg) Stone, of 188 Jones Ave., Portsmouth, died Feb. 10, 2002. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visiting hours. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel.

Dorothy C. Ricker

BRENTWOOD - Dorothy C. (Thompson) Ricker, 90, formerly of Court Street, Portsmouth, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002. Born Sept. 20, 1911, she was a daughter of John E. and Mary (Chandler) Thompson and was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth.

As a young woman she helped her father after the death of her mother. She was a member of the Daughters of Pocahontas, where she met the man who was to become her partner in marriage. She married George E. Ricker Sr. on Sept. 22, 1934, and they shared 59 years together.

Her career was her love of and devotion to her family. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles and animals, both domestic and wild.

She is survived by her daughters, Nathalie Ball of Newington, Marilyn Moffitt of Bennington, Vt., and Dorothy Reynolds and her husband, Donald, of Seymour, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, George W. Ricker, Cynthia Donnelly, Brian and Robert Klockars, Deanna Walsh, John, William and Dale Dyer, Donald, George, and Edward Reynolds, and Shelli Wohlheiter; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, Amayah; several nieces; and one nephew.

She was predeceased by her husband, George E. Ricker Sr.; a son, George E. Ricker Jr.; two sisters, Edna Wortman and Margaret Hanscom; five brothers, William, Harry, Ernest, John and Roger Thompson; and a great-grandson, Robert Dyer.

RICKER - Dorothy C. (Thompson) Ricker, 90, of Brentwood, formerly of Court Street, Portsmouth, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885-0196, or to a charity of one's choice.

Donald Vincent O’Toole

KITTERY POINT, Maine - Donald Vincent O’Toole, 70, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at York

Hospital. Born Aug. 1, 1931, in Stamford, Conn., he was the son of the late Vincent DePaul and

Katherine (McDermott) O’Toole.

He attended St. John’s Grammar School and then attended the Eastern Military Academy and

King School, both in Stamford. He graduated from St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, Conn. He then

went on and attended the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. Upon his graduation

from R.I.T., he enrolled and furthered his studies at the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, Conn.

He was vice president of O’Toole and Sons Inc., printers and publishers. The company was

founded by his grandfather in 1875 in New York City. He sold his interest in the business in the

’70s to other family members but retained the real estate until the early ’90s.

On Jan. 27, 1962, he married the former Ellen Watson. Together they lived in Connecticut and

moved to Maine in 1993.

In his leisure time, he loved to work in his flower and vegetable gardens. According to family, they

rarely bought vegetables from the grocery store because of the bountiful harvest he grew and

maintained. He also loved to spend time reading.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one niece, Barbara Raffaele of Alexandria, Va.; two nephews,

Roger Guarino of Richfield, Minn., and Gary McMullen of Houston, Texas; one great-niece; two

great-nephews; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister, Gloria (O’Toole) Guarino.

O'TOOLE - Donald O'Toole, 70, of Kittery Point, Maine, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at York Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Kittery. The Rev. Real Nadeau, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. There will be no visitation hours. A graveside committal service and burial will follow in Brooks Memorial Cemetery, Eliot, Maine.

Frederick W. Harrington Jr.

PORTSMOUTH - Frederick W. Harrington Jr., 83, of 122 Mill Pond Way, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood. He was born in Portsmouth on July 5, 1918, the son of Frederick W. Harrington and Agnes (Elwood) Harrington and was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1937. He served in the United States 2nd Marine Division from June 1944 to May 1946, serving in the Pacific with the occupying troops in Saipan, Marianna Islands and Nagasaki, Japan.

He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from 1939 to 1982, first as a foreman in Machine Shop 31 and later as a material expeditor.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F&AM of Portsmouth and Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Portsmouth and Dover; in 1958 he received his N.H. Consistory 32nd Degree of Nashua. He was also a member of the Emerson Hovey VFW Post #168 in Portsmouth and was active in the Boy Scouts of America during the 1960s. Besides his wife of 57 years, Gertrude (Beede) Harrington, survivors include four sons, Frederick W. Harrington III of Portsmouth, Douglas E. Harrington and his wife, Maureen, of Stratham, Gregory E. Harrington and his wife, Cynthia, of Barrington, and Jeffrey H. Harrington and his wife, Jacqueline, of Dover; four grandchildren, Nicholas R. Harrington and Jalene Harrington, both of Portsmouth, and Elizabeth K. Harrington and Kelley D. Harrington, both of Dover. He was predeceased by two stepbrothers, Herbert and Herman Harrington; and a stepsister, Dorothy King.

HARRINGTON - Frederick W. Harrington Jr., 83, of 122 Mill Pond Way, Portsmouth, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at

J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, with Masonic services by St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F&AM at 10:30 a.m. Friends are invited. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rockingham County Nursing Home Resident's Fund, 117 North Road, Brentwood, NH 03833.

Gladys J. Crapser

PORTSMOUTH - Gladys June (Abell) Crapser, 75, of 165 Colonial Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Capital Heights, Md., on May 31, 1926, she was a daughter of Benjamin and Inez (White) Abell and had been a resident of Portsmouth for the past 31 years.

She enjoyed gardening, her dogs, music, fishing and driving a school bus for handicapped children.

Survivors include her husband, Sterling Wheeler Crapser Sr. - whom she married on March 8, 1952 - a son, Sterling Crapser Jr.; her daughters, Debra Gagnon, Cynthia Kilkenny, Susan Latimer, Sandra Shipman, Janet Raslavicus, and Patricia Szmyt; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Inez Sheesley.

CRAPSER - Gladys J. Crapser, 75, of 165 Colonial Drive, Portsmouth, died Feb. 9, 2002. Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the N.H. Association for the Blind, 25 Walker St., Concord, NH 03301, or to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., Fifth Floor, Boston, MA 02210. Arrangements are by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.

ROY - Vesta M. Roy, of Kenmore, N.Y., died Feb. 9, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Kenmore, N.Y. She will be laid to rest in June at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Lowell, Mass.

Debra L. Greenberg

WEST HARTFORD, Conn., and PORTSMOUTH - Debra Lynn (Samuels) Greenberg, 34, died peacefully at her home on Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, following a courageous and determined battle against a lengthy illness.

She leaves behind her husband of seven and a half years, Glenn A. Greenberg, and their 17-month-old son, Jacob Paul Greenberg, both of whom will miss her terribly.

Born March 27, 1967, in Queens, N.Y., She was the daughter of Richard and Janet Samuels of New York City.

She leaves a brother and sister-in-law, David and Emily Samuels of Cambridge, Mass.; her in-laws Ernest and Loretta Greenberg of Manchester; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary and Dawn Greenberg of Saratoga, Calif.; brother-in-law Michael Greenberg of Nashua; grandmother Vivian Weisberg of New York; loving uncle and aunt Jesse Samuels and Beth Lakenbach of West Hartford, Conn.; four nephews; and countless friends and loved ones.

She was predeceased by her mother, Phyllis (Ptashek) Samuels in 1978.

Aside from her family, her greatest love was teaching. She had been a fourth-grade teacher at Stratham Memorial School since 1994, where scores of children thrived under her guidance and nurturing. Prior to that, she taught for one year in Madbury and for three years at private and public schools in New York City.

She earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 1989 and a master's degree in elementary education from Bank Street College in 1990.

Even through her difficult illness, she never stopped teaching everyone around her about love, determination and strength. She was a treasure to all who knew her. She adored her family, friends, colleagues and students.

She loved to ski, Rollerblade, bike-ride, walk, read and travel with her family.

GREENBERG - Debra Lynn (Samuels) Greenberg, 34, of Portsmouth, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at the Agudas Achim Synagogue, 1244 North Main St., West Hartford, Conn., with Rabbi James Rosen officiating, followed by a burial service at the Emanuel Cemetery, Berlin Tnpke., Wethersfield, Conn. A memorial service will also be held at 12 noon on Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Temple Israel, 200 State St., Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Debbie Greenberg Learning Fund, c/o Stratham Memorial School, 39 Gifford Farm Drive, Stratham, NH 03885, or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Brain Tumor Research Fund, c/o Dr. Patrick Wen, 44 Binney St., Boston, MA 02210. The family will receive friends starting at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday and after 7 p.m. on Saturday at their home in Portsmouth. Clifton S. Seavey

PORTSMOUTH - Clifton S. Seavey, 90, of 581 Colonial Drive, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 11, 1911, in North Hampton, the son of the late Cecil and Jennie (Eastman) Seavey.

Mr. Seavey attended public school in North Hampton and spent most of his life in Portsmouth.

He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a pipe fitter and at Pease Air Force Base in the Central Heating Plant. Mr. Seavey retired with 30 years of government service.

He also was an independent lobster fisherman for several years.

In 1999, he was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Margaret (Pinkham) Seavey.

Mr. Seavey is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Seavey) Lind and her husband, Paul, of Hutchinson, Minn.; two grandsons, Darin Lind of Wheeling, Ill., and Adam Lind of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister, Anne Richards of Haverhill, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Frost of Portsmouth; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Helen Gahan of Durham.

Jacqueline F. Cilley

BARRINGTON - Jacqueline F. Cilley, 65, of Hall Road, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Aug. 6, 1936, in Lawrence, Mass., she was the daughter of the late John and Rachel A. (Dubois) LaBranche. She resided in Phoenicia, N.Y., for 12 years before moving to Barrington in 1984.

She was presently employed as a program assistant in the Office of Sustainability Programs at the University of New Hampshire, where she had been employed for the past 10 years.

She attended the church of St. Thomas More in Durham.

She was also concerned about and involved with saving the groundwater.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Roger Cilley of Barrington; one son, Rodger S. Cilley and his wife, Melissa, of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Jennifer A. Alberico and her husband, Tom, of Brattleboro, Vt., and Lauren R. Tweedie and her husband, Peter, of Brownfield, Maine; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Donald C. LaBranche of Stratham and John F. LaBranche of Kittery Point, Maine; one sister, Louise Callahan of Somersworth; and several nieces and nephews.

CILLEY - Jacqueline F. Cilley, 65, of Hall Road, Barrington, died Feb. 10, 2002. Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday from St. Mary's Church, Main Street, Newmarket, with the Rev. Robert Biron as celebrant. Burial will be in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket. Should friends desire, rather than flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Laura S. MacLeanM

EXETER - Laura S. MacLean, 88, of 7 RiverWoods Drive, formerly of Thomsen Road, Hampton, died Saturday Feb. 9, 2002, in The Lodge at RiverWoods.

She was born in Sunapee on Feb. 14, 1913, the daughter of the late Albert A. and Harriet (Bartlett) Stocker.

She was a graduate of Sunapee High School and of the University of New Hampshire in 1934, where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority.

Prior to her marriage, she taught school in Ashland. She moved to Hampton from Concord in 1954 and resided there until 1997, when she made her home at RiverWoods.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hampton and the church's Women's Guild and served as church historian. She also served on the library and literary committees for the town of Hampton and was a former member of the Hampton Monday Club.

She was the wife of the late Maynard G. MacLean, who died in 1987, and she was predeceased by a brother, William Stocker.

Family members include one daughter, Nancy Carey of Portsmouth; three sons, Douglass W. MacLean of Nashua, Brian L. MacLean of Madbury, and John R. MacLean of Southlake, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

MacLEAN - Laura S. MacLean, 88, of RiverWoods of Exeter, formerly of Hampton, died Feb. 9, 2002. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at the First Congregational Church, Winnacunnet Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests there be no visiting hours and that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the New Hampshire Association for the Blind, 25 Walker Street, Concord, NH 03301. Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
