Loma R. Sanborn

SEABROOK - Loma R. Sanborn, 80, of 520 Lafayette Road, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at the Exeter Hospital.

A lifelong Seabrook resident, she was born here on Dec. 30, 1921, the daughter of the late Everett F. and Doris E. (Felch) Locke. She worked for 43 years for Welpro Shoe Co. and the former Barr & Bloomfield Shoe Company as a stripping cutter, retiring when the shoe shop closed in the early 1980s.

She attended Seabrook schools and Newburyport High School and enjoyed crocheting and bowling.

Family members include her husband of 62 years, James W. Sanborn II, of Seabrook; a son, James W. Sanborn III and his wife, Sandra, of Seabrook; a daughter, Sandra L. Welch and her husband, William, of Seabrook; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Roderick Locke of Seabrook; and several nieces and nephews.

Her brother Franklin E. Locke predeceased her in 1980.

SANBORN - Loma R. Sanborn, 80, of 520 Lafayette Road, Seabrook, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook. If desired, donations may be made to the Seacoast Visiting Nurse Association, 29 Lafayette Road, North Hampton, NH 03862.

Abigail C. Gianotti

ROCHESTER - Baby girl Abigail Christine Gianotti, infant daughter of Anthony and Christine (Buck) Gianotti, of 11 Stillwater Circle, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

She was born in Lebanon on Jan. 27, 2002.

Besides her parents, survivors include her paternal grandmother, Janet Rowe of New Castle; her maternal grandparents, John and Juanita Lambert of Concordville, Pa.; her great-grandmother, Marion Rowe of New Castle; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

GIANOTTI - Baby girl Abigail Christine Gianotti, infant daughter of Anthony and Christine (Buck) Gianotti, of 11 Stillwater Circle, Rochester, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Lighthouse Assembly of God, Lowell Street, Rochester. Friends are invited. There will be no visiting hours. Flowers will be accepted, or donations in her memory may be made to David's House, P.O. Box 660, Lebanon, NH 03766, Attn: Jane DeGange. Arrangements are by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel.

Rodney G. Brock

GREENLAND - Largely attended funeral services for Rodney G. Brock, 62, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Monday, with services held at the North Congregational Church in Market Square, Portsmouth. The Rev. Dawn A. Shippee, pastor, officiated.

Words of remembrance were given by Mr. Brock's two sons, Richard S. Brock and Donald J. Brock; his daughter, Robin L. Brock; president and CEO of the Service Credit Union in Portsmouth, Gordon Simmons; and Judge John Maher. Organist was Gary MacDonald.

In attendance were members of the church and representatives from the Service Credit Union in Portsmouth; Portsmouth Lions Club; Portsmouth Rotary Club; Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce; and the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Kenneth R. King

PORTSMOUTH - Kenneth R. King, 86, husband of Geneva (Pearson) King, of 47 Lois St., died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre.

He was born in Deerfield on Dec. 3, 1915, a son of Howard P. and Mabel (Hill) King. He was a graduate of Coe-Brown Academy in Northwood, Class of 1934, and attended the University of New Hampshire. After completing his apprenticeship at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, he served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945 during World War II in the Pacific theatre aboard a LST. Upon returning from the United States Navy, he was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1976 at the position of reactor plant foreman after 36 years. Over a period of years at the shipyard, he was aboard more than 14 sea trials. He was a member of the Middle Street Baptist Church in Portsmouth.

His playing and coaching career in baseball included four years of varsity baseball at Coe-Brown Academy in Northwood; the Barrington Orioles; Durham Wildcats; Hampton All-Stars; Portsmouth city team, where he played and coached; Patterson's Painters in Portsmouth; the Groveton Twin State League; Frank E. Booma Post #6, American Legion, Portsmouth, coach and player on the senior team; Frank E. Booma Post #6, American Legion, Junior Legion coach; Portsmouth Naval Shipyard team; and was signed by the Boston Braves and played at Evansville, Ind., Three I League; Owensboro, Ky., Kitty League and Sidney Mines, Nova Scotia. "Drafted" into umpiring during the 1948 American Legion baseball tournament when the home plate umpire had to leave a game, he officiated sports from then on. He had been behind the plate and on the base paths for high school games, prep schools, and Babe Ruth games, as well as semipro games since 1948. He was active for more than 25 years in umpiring baseball associations; he served as committee chairman for the Protest Committee as well as supervisor of umpires in the American Legion state baseball program. From 1948 through 1990 he actively umpired for the N.H. American Legion teams; high schools throughout New Hampshire and southern Maine; preparatory schools such as Phillips Exeter Academy; Babe Ruth League; and semiprofessional leagues; the Union Leader Sunday News John R. Clark Officials Award 1999-2000.

He was a charter member of the N.H. Umpires Association, where he was involved in organizational meetings in the early 1960s and was active for more than 25 years; American Legion Baseball Committee in New Hampshire, where he held a chair in 1956; he was a charter member of the N.H. American Legion Baseball Umpires Association (ALBBUA) and was recognized for involvement in the association by being given membership #1 by the association; a member since 1956 of ALBBUA Protest Committee, where he held a current committee chair; ALBBUA Supervisor of Umpires American Legion Baseball, where he held a current committee chair.

Besides his wife of 58 years, survivors include a daughter, Janice Clark and her husband, Richard, of Storrs, Conn.; three grandchildren, Amy and Richard Clark of Storrs, Conn., and Sarah King-Malin of Rochester; a daughter-in-law, Ann King Malin of Rochester; a brother, Roger C. King of Deerfield; and many nieces and nephews.

A son, Richard A. King, predeceased him in 1996.

KING - Kenneth R. King, 86, of 47 Lois St., Portsmouth, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Family flowers only. Memorial contributions may be made to the Middle Street Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 18 Court St., Portsmouth, NH 03801, or to a charity of one's choice.

Stephen L. Davis

YORK, Maine - Stephen L. Davis, 62, of Carriage House Apartments at Georgeana Way, formerly of Old Post Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at his residence.

He was born May 10, 1939, in Dallas, Pa., a son of Stephen N. and Iona (Davies) Davis. He served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Division during the Vietnam War.

He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary in Wyoming, Pa. He received a bachelor's degree from Bucknell University, Louisburg, Pa., and received a Master of Education degree from the University of Maine at Orono.

He had been employed as a field representative for the Social Security Administration at the Portsmouth office for 25 years, retiring in 1989. Following his retirement, he worked for Advanced Systems in Dover until 2000.

He was an avid reader and sports fan and enjoyed classical music. He especially liked model railroading and had constructed an extensive model railway system in his basement.

Survivors include his former wife of 35 years, Linda (Suitor) Davis of York; one daughter, Leah and her husband, Richard Evans, of York; one son, Owen Davis and his wife, Becky, of York; three grandchildren, Mallory and Heather Evans and Abigail Davis; one brother, Dwight Davis of Dallas, Pa.; aunts and uncle Betty Davies and Arlene and Garfield Davies of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.

DAVIS - Stephen L. Davis of Georgeana Way, York, Maine, died Feb. 12, 2002, in York. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home.

Thelma D. "Jean" Gilbert

HAMPTON FALLS - Thelma D. "Jean" Gilbert, 76, of Crank Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at the Sunbridge Rehabilitation Center in Exeter after a period of failing health.

She was born Aug. 24, 1925, daughter of the late Robert and Hazel (Dilke) Perfect.

She was a longtime resident of Hampton Falls. She worked as an LPN in the nursing departments at the Exeter Hospital and the Eventide nursing home for many years. She was also a real estate agent in the Hampton area for about seven years.

She was a member of the Kensington Congregational Church and the Hampton Falls Grange.

She was predeceased by two husbands, Arthur Durkee and Howard Gilbert.

She is survived by three sons, James Durkee of Hampton Falls, Robert Durkee of Glen, and Howard J. Gilbert III of Hampton Falls; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

GILBERT - Thelma D. "Jean" Gilbert, 76, of Hampton Falls, died Feb. 13, 2002. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Hampton Falls. Flowers are acceptable.

John D. Forsberg Sr.

ROCHESTER - John D. Forsberg Sr., 75, husband of Marianne (Farrell) Forsberg, of 5 Falkland Lane, formerly of 57 Mountain View Terrace, Rye, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, after a tragic car accident in Epping.

He was born in Worcester, Mass., on Aug. 8, 1926, a son of Bert A. and Vera (Bergland) Forsberg, and attended Worcester Academy. He served in the United States Navy Sea Bees. He was involved in the South Pacific campaign and was in one of the first battalions to land on Nagasaki, 10 days after the dropping of the atom bomb. For many years he owned and operated Jamar Drilling and Blasting Company and had been involved in the explosives industry for more than 50 years. He was currently working as an explosives inspector for Delta Gulf in Londonderry. He was well respected and loved throughout the construction industry. Wherever he went, whoever knew him recognized his big heart, his endless sense of humor and his ability to entertain with his countless stories. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will be especially missed by his family. He was a former member of the Abenaqui Country Club in Rye Beach; he enjoyed fishing and loved the ocean, the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, and he truly enjoyed and had a great love for his grandchildren and was always involved with all of their sporting activities.

Besides his loving wife, survivors include three children, J. D. Forsberg Jr. and his wife, Sue, of North Hampton, Linda Forsberg-Bean and her companion, David Hutchins, of Wakefield, and Susan Anderson and her husband, Ron, of Stratham; grandchildren Tasha, Dylan and Brandon Forsberg of Portsmouth, Shana Forsberg of Hampton, Alex and Sam Bean of Hampton, Ryan and Casey Anderson of Stratham, Nicole and Jamie Kapral of North Hampton, and Corey MacDonald of Portsmouth.; a brother, William Forsberg and his wife, Ethel, of West Boylston, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Michael James Forsberg, predeceased him in 1993.

FORSBERG - John D. Forsberg Sr., 75, of 5 Falkland Lane, Rochester, formerly of 57 Mountain View Terrace, Rye, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be from

2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Wake services will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Friday by the Rev. Bartholomew Leon. In lieu of flowers, because of his great love and fondness for animals, donations may be made to N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885-0196.

GREENBERG - Debra Lynn (Samuels) Greenberg, 34, of Portsmouth, died peacefully at her home on Monday, Feb. 11, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Temple Israel, 200 State St., Portsmouth. The family will receive friends starting at 5:45 p.m. today and after 7 p.m. on Saturday at their home in Portsmouth.

Loma R. Sanborn

SEABROOK - The funeral for Loma R. Sanborn, 80, wife of James W. Sanborn II, of 520 Lafayette Road, was held Thursday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory in Hampton. The Rev. Elizabeth J. Walton of Seabrook officiated. Jean Goss was the organist. Burial followed in the Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook, with committal services by the Rev. Walton.

Pallbearers were Terry Locke, Frank Locke, James S. Sanborn, William Welch Jr., William Welch III, and Kenny Welch.

Donald O'Toole

KITTERY POINT, Maine - A Mass of Christian burial was held Thursday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Kittery, for Donald O'Toole, 70, who died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002. The Rev. Real Nadeau celebrated the Mass. Altar attendant was Ronald LaMontagne; the reader was George Dow; and the organist was Alfred LaPointe. Additional music was provided by the St. Raphael's Church choir.

Prayers were recited at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home prior to going to the church by eucharistic minister Brian Paridis, of Portland.

A graveside committal service and burial took place at Brooks Memorial Cemetery in Eliot, where the Rev. Nadeau recited committal prayers.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, Kittery.

Robert F. Littlefield Jr.

SEABROOK BEACH - Robert F. Littlefield Jr., 64, of 2 River St., died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at the Anna Jaques Hospital after a sudden illness.

Born Jan. 11, 1938, in Newburyport, Mass., he was a son of the late Robert F. Sr. and Mary H. (Morton) Littlefield.

He was a graduate of Newburyport High School. He lived in Seabrook Beach for the past 43 years and was a commercial fisherman aboard the fishing vessel First Lady. He worked for 30 years alongside his father in the family business as a party-boat captain.

He was a member of the Warren Lodge A.F.&A.M. of Amesbury, Mass., and the Massachusetts Lobsterman's Association.

Family members include his wife of 43 years, Velma M. (Akerman) Littlefield of Seabrook Beach; one son, Charles E. Littlefield and his wife, Susan, of Portsmouth; one daughter, Debra J. Hammer and her husband, Curt, of Hampton; two grandchildren, Andre and Robbie Littlefield of Portsmouth; one sister, Maryann Mason and her husband, Robert, of Amesbury; one brother, Russell G. Littlefield and his wife, Linda, of Atkinson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister Beverly Pritchard, who died in 1987.

LITTLEFIELD - Robert F. Littlefield Jr., of 2 River St., Seabrook Beach, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road (U.S. Route 1), Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be private. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the New Hampshire S.P.C.A., P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.

John F. Moore

BARRINGTON - John Frederick Moore, 84, of 540 Route 126, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Lincoln Street Terrace, Rochester, after a period of failing health.

Born March 10, 1917, in Carlstadt, N.J., he was a son of John F. and Martha (Ruyman) Moore.

A veteran, he served in the United States Navy for 21 years as an underwater mineman. After retiring from the Navy, he was later employed as a truck driver with Sprague Oil Company.

He belonged to the Scottish Rite and was a member of the Naval Lodge 184 AF&AM. He belonged to Teamsters Local 633 and was past president of the Festivity Club in Carlstadt, N.J. He was a longtime resident of Carlstadt, N.J., moving to Rye in 1967.

The widower of Clara L. (Kooiman) Moore, he is survived by a son, Jack Moore and his wife, Susan, of Barrington; three grandsons, John F. Moore III, Jason R. Moore, and Michael A. Moore; two great-granddaughters, Jaclyn G. Parker and Clara Rose Moore. He was predeceased by a brother, George Moore.

MOORE - John Frederick Moore, 84, of 540 Route 126, Barrington, died Feb. 11, 2002. There will be no calling hours or funeral services. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, and the Oyster River Crematory, Barrington.

Elsie M. Pimental

EXETER - Elsie Mae Pimental, 75, formerly of 277 Water St., died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the Exeter Healthcare after a period of failing health.

She was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Amesbury, Mass., daughter of the late Edwin H. and Ruth F. (Murray) Meserve.

She had resided in Exeter for the past three years. She grew up in Amesbury, where she graduated from high school, and lived in the area until she married her husband, Kenneth J. Pimental.

Together they spent many years in Chicopee and Ludlow, Mass.

She was a bookkeeper for many years, working at Sears in Exeter and at other Amesbury area businesses.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo. She was an avid knitter, and she loved sewing.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Kenneth J. Pimental; three sons, Laurence K. Dobson of Exeter, Myron K. Dobson of Kingston, and Glenn F. Dobson of Cumming, Ga.; five grandchildren; one brother, Edwin Meserve of Kensington; and several nieces and nephews.

PIMENTAL - Elsie Mae Pimental, 75, formerly of 277 Water St., Exeter, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mount Prospect Cemetery, Amesbury, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

MaryAnn Cuvellier

PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. MaryAnn (Peggy) Cuvellier, 67, of 109 Oriental Gardens, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at her home, as she wished.

Born in Bangor, Maine, on Sept. 14, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Maynard E. and Catherine P. (Niegorski) Sprague. She was married to the late Marc A. (Babe) Cuvellier of Portsmouth.

Peggy lived on the Seacoast for over thirty years. She worked as a waitress at many restaurants such as Valley's, Hectors Country Kitchen, Pirates Cove, Warren's and others in the area. She also worked at Data General, Watts Fluid Air, Kings Department Store, Riches and Bradlees. Peggy retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company after 12 years of service and most recently was employed part time at CardSmart.

All those who remember working with Peggy throughout the years will remember how her laughter could fill a room. She was loved by many. Her greatest pastimes were her children and grandchildren, going to beaches, and many sporting events that involved her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, coin collecting and filling all the candy dishes she could!

Peggy is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Kevin (Linda) Niles of Kittery Point, and Mrs. Dwayne (Deborah) Robichaud of Portsmouth; two sons, Wayne R. Estes and wife, Diana, of Portsmouth, Daniel W. Russell and friend, Vicki Gustin, of Dover, N.H.; six grandchildren, Jason McKay, Kelly Niles, Jared and Tyler Estes, and Matthew J. Ryan; very loving sister, Mrs. Dale (Susan) Hanks of Pensacola, Fla.; a special aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Janes of Danvers, Mass; and dear friends, Wayne Bailey and Milton Post of Lebanon, Conn., Virginia Starnes of Portsmouth, Judy Soucy of Dover, Helen Howell of Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. Ron (Pat) Delaney and Stella Delancy of Albuquerque, N.M. and so many more.

She was predeceased by two brothers Eugene (Sonny) Sprague of Lebanon, Conn. in 1994 and Chester I. Sprague of Manchester, N.H. in 1984.

CUVELLIER - MaryAnn (Peggy) Cuvellier, 67, of 109 Oriental Gardens, died Feb. 14, 2002. Funeral services will be held at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, at 10 a.m. on Monday. Visiting hours are 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002. Memorials may be made to Portsmouth Home Health and Hospice, 95 Albany St., Suite 11, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Frederick W. Harrington

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Frederick W. Harrington Jr., 83, of 122 Mill Pond Way, were held Thursday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth. Pastor Donald Gum of the Calvary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, officiated.

In attendance were former associates from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard including the "Breakfast Boys."

Masonic services were held at the funeral home Thursday morning by St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F&AM of Portsmouth including Acting Wor. Master Philip Fraser, PM; Marshal Thomas G. LaBerge, PM; secretary, Donald Ladd, PM; and historian, Lynn J. Sanderson, PM. Also assisting in services were members of St. John's Lodge No. 1 F&AM of Portsmouth, including Acting Chaplain A. Kenneth Day, PM; Dante Caminati; and Ralph Woodman.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Greenland, in the spring.
