Richard Frizzell

DOVER - Richard "Dick" Frizzell, 76, widower of Nathelie R. (Fracher) Frizzell, of the Riverside Rest Home, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

He was born in Portsmouth on April 10, 1925, the son of John and Edna (Delaney) Frizzell. He attended Cabot Street School and St. Patrick's School and was a graduate of Portsmouth High School.

He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a supervisor in the blueprint/planning department, retiring in 1986 after 32 years.

He was a great lover of all animals and was a great supporter of the N.H. SPCA in Stratham. He was a member of Emerson Hovey Post #168, VFW, of Portsmouth and Frank E Booma Post #6, American Legion.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Marsha R. Price of North Berwick, Maine; two stepsons, Wayne S. Price Sr. of York, Maine, and Edmund L. Price of Portsmouth; six step-grandchildren, Traci J. Price of Fremont, Wayne S. Price Jr. of Raymond, Amber D. Price of York, Maine, Ryan Price of York, Maine, Kyle Price of Portsmouth, and Kari Price of Portsmouth; one step-great-grandson, Brandon Price of Raymond; and a half brother, Albert Hanscom of Derry.

FRIZZELL - Richard "Dick" Frizzell, 76, of the Riverside Rest Home, Dover, died Saturday, March 2, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at

J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, with VFW services at 5:30 p.m. by Emerson Hovey Post #168, and American Legion services at 5:45 p.m. by Frank E. Booma Post #6. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.

Richard J. Tibbetts

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Retired Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Richard J. "Dick" Tibbetts, 67, of 928 South St., were held on Saturday from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, with services held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. Timothy T. Rich, rector, officiated. Family reflections were given by Martin S. Quirk, Thomas A. Trueman, Patricia Ramsey and Richard J. Tibbetts Jr. Gift Bearers were Paul D. Tibbetts and Katherine E. Tibbetts. Judy Ringer was soloist, and Dianne Colby Dean was organist. In attendance were members of the church and representatives from Edgewood Centre.

An honor guard was formed at Central Cemetery, in Rye, by a detachment from the Hanscom Air Force Base Patriot Honor Guard, including 2nd Lt. Garrett Fisher, OIC; Airman 1st Class Alines Torres and a detachment from the N.H. Air National Guard from Pease, including Senior Master Sgt. Bill Jones, Senior Master Sgt. Gary Oberg and Tech. Sgt. Ian Condiff. Committal services were performed by the Rev. Rich.

The American flag that draped the casket was folded by the Patriot Honor Guard, by 2nd Lt. Garrett Fisher and Airman 1st Class Alines Torres.

A volley was fired by the N.H. Air National Guard under the direction of Senior Master Sgt. Bill Jones, including Senior Master Sgt. Gary Oberg and Tech. Sgt. Ian Condiff. The American flag was presented to Chief Master Sgt. Tibbetts' daughter, Nora Jean Popp.

Bearers were Merrill Clark, Jim Smith, Thomas Trueman, Michael Quirk, Joey Medolo and Scott Trueman.

Kathleen Corbly

PORTSMOUTH - Kathleen (Mulherin) Corbly, 75, of 352 Coolidge Drive died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre following a brief illness.

Mrs. Corbly was born in Portsmouth on Nov. 27, 1926, the daughter of Michael F. and Theresa (Jones) Mulherin. She was educated in Portsmouth schools and was a graduate of Portsmouth High School with the Class of 1944. Prior to her marriage to Robert Corbly on May 7, 1949, she was a telephone operator at New England Telephone Company in Portsmouth. She later worked at Booth Fisheries for Kenoza. She was an active member of St. James Catholic Church. She was a loving, supportive and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend to many who will greatly miss her.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years; four sons, Robert Corbly of Portland, Ore., Mark Corbly of Springfield, Mass., John Corbly of Eliot, Maine, and Michael Corbly of Barrington; three daughters, Kathleen Katz of Portsmouth, Patti Peters of York, Maine, and Jody Gretter of Arundel, Maine; two sisters, Mary Czjakowski of Exeter and Ann Rea of Benbrook, Texas; and 15 grandchildren, Jenna, Maren, Abby, Logan, Michael, Tyler and Megan Corbly; Jeremy, Tucker and Dee-Dee Katz; Sean, Sam, Hilary, Kisch and Molly Peters. Her first great-grandchild is expected March 6. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

CORBLY - Kathleen (Mulherin) Corbly, 75, of Portsmouth died Sunday, March 3, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. James Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Visiting hours at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick School, 125 Austin St. Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Natalie J. Daniels

KITTERY, Maine - Natalie J. (Jacques) Daniels, 72, died Friday evening, March 1, 2002, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

She was born in Caribou, Maine, on April 26, 1929, a daughter of Alfred and Cecile (Ouellette) Jacques.

She was educated in the Caribou and Skowhegan, Maine, schools. The family moved to Skowhegan when she was nine.

She lived and worked in Connecticut, Florida, Arizona and Maine. She spent many years helping her sister Della at Kyes Motel in Skowhegan. The last 12 years of her life she spent with her sister Ethel in Kittery.

She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cards and game shows and was also a sports enthusiast who enjoyed children's sports as well as the pros on television. She would crochet baby blankets for needy newborns in the Boston area. She also sponsored a child in Nicaragua through the Christian Foundation for Children over the past several years.

She had been a member of the ladies of the Moose of Portsmouth, and in the past had been a volunteer and helped with the bingo games.

She is survived by her daughter, Gail Sawyer and husband, Neil Linsky, of South Berwick; two sons, Lance Sawyer and his wife, Susan, of Stuart, Fla., and Lyle and Shari Sawyer of Jensen Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Della Kyes of Skowhegan, Ethel Taylor of Kittery, and Jacqueline and her husband, Richard Anzelc, of Raymond; and two brothers, the Rev. Alfred Jacques of Rumford, and Leon Jacques of Sierra Vista, Ariz.

She had nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her son Gary.

She also had very many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

DANIELS - Natalie J. (Jacques), 72, of Kittery, Maine, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at Portsmouth Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2002, at St. Raphael's Parish on Whipple Road in Kittery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Assn. or to the National Diabetes Society. Arrangements are by the J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Genevieve G. Caldwell

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Genevieve G. "Buddy" Caldwell, 86, of 171 Elwyn Ave., Portsmouth, were held on Monday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth. The Rev. Gordon Allen officiated. Lillian Harvey was soloist.

In attendance were members of St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth and former associates from the city of Portsmouth.

Burial was in Sagamore Cemetery, in Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Allen.

Emily G. Kimball

HAMPTON - Emily Grace Kimball, 5, of 36 Towle Ave., died March 3, 2002, after a two-year battle with cancer at Children's Hospital in Boston, Mass.

She was born in Moscow, Russia, on June 10, 1996, a daughter of Kevin D. and Maureen A. (Shannon) Kimball of Hampton.

She attended kindergarten at Centre School in Hampton. She was a member of the Faith Community Church in Hampton, the N.H. Academy of the Performing Arts of North Hampton, and the Hampton Youth Association's soccer program.

She was baptized last September in the Atlantic Ocean at North Beach.

In addition to her parents, family members include four brothers, Brian D., Peter T., Gary R., and Jonathan E. Kimball, all of Hampton; one sister, Mallory A. Kimball of Hampton; maternal grandfather, Terrence Shannon of New Milford, Conn.; maternal grandmother, Sandra Grandon of Danbury, Conn.; paternal grandmother, Alta G. Kimball of Hampton; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

KIMBALL - Emily Grace Kimball, of 36 Towle Ave., Hampton, died Sunday, March 3, 2002. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Bethany Congregational Church, 500 Breakfast Hill Road, Greenland. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Private burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Faith Community Church, 112 High St., Hampton, NH 03842. The Kimball family will then make donations to the charities that would have pleased Emily.

Muriel A. McKenney

ALFRED, Maine - Muriel A. McKenney, 75, of Chickadee Drive, a longtime resident of E. Lebanon and Portsmouth, N.H., and Dover, N.H., died March 2, 2002, at Goodall Hospital in Sanford after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Nashua, N.H., on July 23, 1926, the daughter of Hector and Vivian (Mizo) dePontbriand. She was a 1945 graduate of Portsmouth (N.H.) High School. During World War II, she was a volunteer Civilian Air Spotter.

She was employed for more than 25 years as an operator with New England Telephone in Dover and Portsmouth, retiring in the mid-1980s.

Family members recalled that she was especially fond of children. She served as a Girl Scout leader, and, in addition to her own children, raised several other children in her home.

She loved the ocean. She enjoyed oil painting and won two awards at the Deerfield Fair for her paintings. She also enjoyed reading, playing cards and cribbage.

A devout Catholic, she had a special devotion to St. Jude. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Community of Sanford-Springvale.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Clayton R. McKenney of Alfred; two sons, Clayton R. McKenney II of Rochester, N.H., and Robert W. McKenney of Alfred; two daughters, Diane M. Eckert of Vienna, Va., and Linda R. McKenney of Wells; a brother, Hector G. Pontbriand of South Berwick; and seven grandchildren.

Priscilla A. Motson

YORK, Maine - Priscilla Allen Motson, 85, of Cider Hill Road, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 3, 2002, at York Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1916, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of Donald and Mabel (Chamberlain) Allen. She was a graduate of the Friends Select High School of Philadelphia, Class of 1934, and graduated from Wilson College in Chambersberg, Pa., Class of 1938. She also received a master's degree in special education from Trenton State College.

She was a special education teacher for the Bucks County school system in Pennsylvania. She was also the first female to hold a real estate license in the town of Newtown, Pa.

Since 1958 she had been an active member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, participating in the affairs of the church and proudly serving as first reader.

She was a member of The World Affairs Council, the York Art Association, and the York Historical Society. She was the founder of the York Classical Music Society.

Survivors include one daughter, Judith Harrison of York; one son, Peter Allen Motson and his wife, Starr, of Kittery Point; two grandchildren, Niall Motson and Kiadra Motson of Kittery Point; and one granddog, Bailey Belle. She is also survived by her former husband, Crawford Frederick Motson of Santa Barbara, Calif.

MOTSON - Priscilla Allen Motson, 85, of Cider Hill Road, York, Maine, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, in York. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York.

Alphonse J. LaFrenier IV

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Alphonse Joseph LaFrenier IV, 22, died unexpectedly on Jan. 26, 2002, from injuries sustained in a skateboard accident.

Born Feb. 2, 1979, in Portsmouth, N.H., he was a son of Pamela Marshall and her husband, Robert Marshall, of Ocean Beach, Calif., and Alphonse J. LaFrenier III (Butch) and his wife, Angela LaFrenier, of Eliot, Maine.

He attended Point Loma High School and was formerly employed by Renascence Renovations.

He enjoyed surfing, fishing, playing pool and hanging out with his friends. He was a member of S.A.L. Post #6, Portsmouth, N.H.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Michelle Gibson and her husband, Kris, of San Diego, Calif., and Angel Snow of Rochester, N.H.; a brother, Scott Marshall; an uncle, Ron Davis; and his maternal grandparents, Norman and Carol Davis of Visalia, Calif.

His paternal grandparents, Alphonse J. Lafrenier Jr. and his wife, Emma LaFrenier, predeceased him.

LaFRENIER - Alphonse Joseph LaFrenier IV, 22, of San Diego, Calif., died Jan. 26, 2002. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 11 a.m. on March 9, 2002, at 57 Pleasant St., Eliot, Maine. S.A.L. Chaplain Mike Richards of American Legion Post #6 of Portsmouth, N.H., will conduct the service.

Stuart W. Hamilton Jr.

MANCHESTER, Maine - Stuart W. Hamilton Jr., 68, of 323 Readfield Road in Manchester, Maine, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, after a long illness.

He was a graduate of Millburn High School in Millburn, N.J., and attended Brown University. He was an Army veteran, having served in Korea. He was active in both the N.J. and N.H. bankers associations. He was also a lobbyist in the New Hampshire Legislature and U.S. Congress. He moved to Maine in 1984 and spent the remainder of his career in banking.

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Hamilton of Manchester Maine; his children, James Hamilton and wife Mary Beth of Norwalk, Conn., and Rachel Hamilton and husband Randy Pratt of Portsmouth, N.H.; and his brothers, Willard Hamilton of Ashland, Ore., and Robert Bruce Hamilton of El Dorado, Calif. He was predeceased in 1979 by a daughter, Melissa Hamilton.

HAMILTON - Stuart W. Hamilton Jr., 68, of Manchester, Maine, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Christ Episcopal Church, 2 Dresden Ave., Gardiner, Maine. Donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer Care Center, 154 Dresden Ave., Gardiner, ME 04345.

Clara Gale

HAMPTON - Clara Gale, 102, of 22 Tuck Road, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Seacoast Health Center.

She was born in Exeter on July 20, 1899, a daughter of the late Samuel and Grace (Hoyle) Seward. She had resided in Hampton since the early 1920s, having moved from Exeter.

She, with her late husband, Floyd, owned and operated Gale's Garage in Hampton for nearly 40 years. She also worked for several years at the Kentville Hotel at Hampton Beach.

She served the town of Hampton as ballot clerk at the polls, working every election for 72 years. She was honored in the 1999 publication of the N.H. Manual of the General Court. In honor of her 100th birthday, a tree was planted on the premises of St. James Lodge F & AM of Hampton. One of her most prized possessions is an American flag presented to her after being flown over the nation's capitol, the New Hampshire Statehouse and the Hampton Town Hall's polling place.

During World War II, she served as a member of the Police Auxiliary, making certain that residents in her patrol district observed the "blackout" rules, a job she took very seriously.

She was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Orient Chapter and later an affiliate member of the Tide Mill Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine, and was Past Grand Organist of the Grand Chapter of New Hampshire. She was member of Oceanside Grange #260 and a member of the East Rockingham Pomona Grange #11. She was also a member of the Hampton Monday Club and the Kitchen Kut Ups and an active member of the National Federation of Republican Women's Club.

She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd I. Gale, in 1967; her brothers, Samuel Seward Jr. and R. Harold Seward; and her sister, Elizabeth Holmer.

Family members include two nieces, Annie Whaley of Springvale, Maine, and Eleanor Adams of Kittery, Maine; two nephews, Floyd Seward of Kittery Point, Maine, and George Seward of Eliot, Maine; two grandnieces, Emily Starkey of Kittery, Maine, and Josephine (Joan) Camden of North Berwick, Maine; and several great-grandnieces and-nephews.

GALE - Clara Gale, of 22 Tuck Road, Hampton, died Monday, March 4, 2002. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Fraternal services will be conducted by the Grange at 6:30 p.m. and by the Eastern Star at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to Hampton United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842.

Evelyn Hill

BRENTWOOD - Evelyn Hill, 94, formerly of Hayes Park, Exeter, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, where she had resided for the past few years.

She was born in Jordan Falls, Nova Scotia, Canada, April 21, 1907, the daughter of Frederick S. and Maude (Purney) deMolitor. She lived in Lowell and Haverhill, Mass., for 28 years, and in Plaistow for 11 years before moving to Exeter in 1971.

She was an inspector for the Raytheon Corp. prior to her retirement in 1967.

She was an active member of the Exeter Congregational Church and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Puritan Chapter No. 54 of Lowell, Mass.

She was the wife of the late Robert L. Hill, who died in 1997.

Survivors include a sister, Cecelia of Ontario, Canada; four brothers, Edward, David, John and Sherman, all of Canada; many nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Dorothy Rowe of Brentwood.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Lillian, Dorothy and Mary; and four brothers, George, William, Gordon and Cecil.

HILL - Evelyn Hill, 94, of Brentwood, formerly of Hayes Park, Exeter, died March 4, 2002. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2002, in the Plaistow Cemetery with the Rev. Jane Geffken Henderson officiating. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Rockingham County Nursing Home, 117 North Road, Brentwood, NH 03833. The Kent and Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket, is assisting with arrangements.

Mary P. Collins

Greenland - Well-attended Celebration of Life services for Mary P. Collins were held Sunday, March 3, 2002, at the Greenland Community Church. The Rev. Douglas Carter and the Rev. James Syphers conducted the service. There were family remembrances by her daughter, Pinky MacDonald; her niece, Janet Gray; a grandson, Dale Syphers, who read notes from his brother, Paul Syphers; and lastly her son, James Syphers. Her great-granddaughter, Kelly Allinson, sang a solo, "In The Garden." There were many hymns sung and lots of love present.

Catherine E. McLaughlin

QUINCY, Mass. - Catherine E. McLaughlin, 77, of 91 Clay St., died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at the Quincy Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Revere, the daughter of the late James R. and Eleanor F. (McCarthy) McCarthy.

Mrs. McLaughlin lived for many years in Manchester, N.H., and was a graduate of Manchester Central High School. She worked for the former New England Telephone Co. as a supervisor in the traffic department. She moved to Rye Beach, N.H., in 1979 where she summered, and wintered in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and most recently moved to Quincy.

She was a former communicant of St. Theresa Church of Rye Beach.

She was the wife of the late Thomas J. McLaughlin.

Survivors include a son, James W. McLaughlin of Twin Mountain, N.H.; a daughter, Patricia C. Bossart and her husband, Robert N. of Quincy; and three grandchildren, Jeffrey R., Kevin J., and Katherine H. Bossart, all of Quincy.

McLAUGHLIN - Catherine E. McLaughlin, of 91 Clay St., Quincy, Mass., died March 5, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Theresa Church, 815 Central Road, Rye Beach, Saturday at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Central Cemetery, Rye. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160.
