Everett H. Nau

ROCHESTER - Everett H. Nau, 80, of Rochester, died March 15, 2002.

He was born to John and Josephine (Morris) Nau in Stamford, Conn. on Dec. 2, 1921.

He attended local schools and graduated from Stamford High School in 1941, and also from the Connecticut State Trade School with a certificate in sheetmetal.

Mr. Nau worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from 1940 until retiring in 1976. He was a sheetmetal worker and supervisor, and later he transferred to the Design Division and retired as a Naval Arch Tech. He was a member of the Kittery Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years in which he served as secretary/treasurer until he retired. He was a life member of Naval Lodge 184, AM&FM of Kittery and was Master in 1959. He was associated with the Golden Eagles Drum and Bugle Corps as a drill instructor. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and attending craft fairs. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Barrington and had served as a trustee. He organized the Fishermen's Helpers at the church and assisted with them in teaching woodworking skills to the youth of the church and community. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army.

He resided in Kittery for many years. He also resided in Somersworth and Barrington, and for the past five years, in Rochester. He was a winter resident of Haines City, Fla. for the past 20 years.

He was predeceased by his first wife whom he married on Dec. 7, 1941, Hallie (Kimball) Nau, who died on Feb. 26, 1979, and his second wife to whom he was married for 21 years, Jane (Chamberlain) Nau who died on March 5, 2002.

Mr. Nau is survived by his son, Everett B. Nau and his wife, Mary, of Kenosha, Wis.; two daughters, Sherrill (Nau) Gravallese and her husband, Joel, of Somersworth, Joyce (Nau) Waggett and her husband, Timothy, of Bealeton, Va.; stepson, Dana Chamberlain and his wife, Sara, of Somersworth, Mark Chamberlain of Concord, N.H.; stepdaughters Beth (Chamberlain) Hollidge and her husband Melvin of Concord, and Sally (Chamberlain) Dixon and her husband, Peter, of Rollinsford, N.H.; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Nau of Smithtown, N.Y. and William Nau of Kittery; a sister, Frances (Nau) Baptist of Manchester, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Nau was also predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

NAU - Everett Nau, 81, of Rochester, N.H. died on March 15, 2002. Family and friends may visit from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester. A Masonic service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Edward Whitman officiating. Burial will be in the Brooks Memorial Cemetery, Eliot, Maine, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to World Vision, P.O. Box 94881, Tacoma, WA 98481, as Everett and Jane sponsored a World Vision Child.

Edward E. Samara

LONDONDERRY - Edward Eassa Samara, 82, of 13 Grenier Field Road, died March 15, 2002, at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester.

He was born in Manchester on Nov. 23, 1919, the son of Eassa and Minerva (Maloley) Samara. He had been a resident of Londonderry for the past 50 years. He spent his summers in Rye Beach and also spent time in Boca Raton, Fla. He was a prominent business leader of international stature and owned a number of businesses including Granite State Loan Corp. and E & R Real Estate, both of Derry. His charitable contributions were considerable and always anonymous. He was a Master Mason 32nd degree, and a member of the St. Marks Lodge #44 and Bektash Temple of Concord. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He loved sports and loved life the most. He was a devoted father and grandfather. He had a casual flamboyance and a wonderful sense of humor that drew many people to him.

He was predeceased by his wife Helen (Maloof) Samara who died in 1971.

Mr. Samara is survived by his son, Ronald Samara, a prominent artist in Laguna Beach, Calif.; three daughters, Dr. Brenda Samara, of Cheltenham, Penn., Tanya Samara of Stratham, and Mrs. Robert (Lisa) Ross of Stratham; three grandchildren, Robert Fleck Jr., John Akar and Rabiah Akar; his longtime companion, Mary Alice Chatis of Londonderry; a brother, Dr. George Samara of Manchester; three sisters, Helen Samara of Manchester, Victoria Rahall of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Pauline Gatsas of Manchester; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

SAMARA - Edward Eassa Samara, 82, of 13 Grenier Field Road, Londonderry, N.H., died March 15, 2002. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester, from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2002. Jennie T. Sanborn

PLAISTOW - Mrs. Jennie T. (Lathas) Sanborn, of 199 Main St., Plaistow, formerly of Haverhill, Mass., died Wednesday morning at the Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill, Mass.

She was born in Salem, Mass., daughter of the late Theodore A. and Angelica (Varzeliotis) Lathas.

Mrs. Sanborn graduated from Haverhill High School and Bryant and Stratton School of Business, in Boston, Mass. She was employed for several years as a bookkeeper in her late father's business, the former Tuscarora Restaurant, which was located on Winter Street, Haverhill, Mass.

Mrs. Sanborn and her husband later formed the Bon Bon Shop on Winter Street in Haverhill and, in 1954, moved to Plaistow. In 1955, they opened Sanborn's Fine Candies where she was the treasurer.

She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles, Hale Hospital Auxiliary, Haverhill Women's City Club, and the Haverhill White Shrine.

In addition to her husband of 62 years, William H. Sanborn of Plaistow, she is survived by a son, Theodore W. Sanborn of Plaistow; two daughters, Billie C. and her husband Robert C. Cooper of Hampton, Diana K. and her husband the Honorable Conrad K. Cyr of Brewer, Maine; two sisters, Mrs. Julia G. Karcasinas of Haverhill and Mrs. Bessie Vitas of Atkinson; four grandchildren, Lauren L. and her husband Christopher Ryan of Hampstead, Robert W. and his wife Amy Cooper of Tiverton, R.I., Tracey J. and her husband Wayne Huberdeau of Plaistow, and Theodore W. Sanborn Jr. of Plaistow; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

SANBORN - Mrs. Jennie T. (Lathas) Sanborn, of 199 Main St., Plaistow, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, Mass., died on March 13, 2002. Geraldine I. Rathke

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Geraldine I. Rathke (nee Wagner), formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., and Exeter, N.H., died recently.

Mrs. Rathke was the daughter of the late Catherine Grucnauer and Richard Wagner.

She was the former purchasing manager for the Erie Scientific Co. in New Hampshire.

Mrs. Rathke is survived by her beloved husband Robert, her daughter Dianne Manfredini, and grandchildren Matthew and David.

Funeral Services will be private.

Mary L. McDonnell

HAVERHILL - Mary Lucy McDonnell, known as "Lucy," 90, longtime resident of Groveland, Mass., died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill, Mass. She was the wife of John M. McDonnell.

Born on May 6, 1911, she was the only daughter of Timothy J. and Lena A. (Keefe) Flynn and graduated from Cheverus High School in 1928. She was a bookkeeper in the accounting department of Western Electric and also worked for Merrimack Valley Credit Union.

She was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick's Church in South Groveland. She loved literature and enjoyed the crossword puzzles in The Boston Globe and New York Times.

In addition to her husband of 60 years, she is survived by three loving children, Jane V. Coder and husband, Richard, of Newburyport, Mass., William and his wife, Gail, of North Hampton, and John and his wife, Bobby, of Chamblee, Ga.; and four beloved grandchildren, Elissa and Lucia Von Letkemann and Sean and Marc McDonnell.

McDONNELL - Mary Lucy McDonnell, known as "Lucy," 90, of 40 Elm Park, Groveland, Mass., died March 13, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport, Mass. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, 990 LaGrange St., West Roxbury, Mass. Joyce A. Wilcox

SOMERSWORTH - Mrs. Joyce A. (Keen) Wilcox, 63, of 682 Sherwood Glen, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

She was born in Portsmouth on April 10, 1938, the daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy H. (Blomberg) Keen. Mrs. Wilcox attended Lafayette School, Portsmouth Junior High School and was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1956.

Besides her husband of 37 years, Richard Wilcox, survivors include three children, John Kloczkowski of Lemoore, Calif., Edward Kloczkowski of Epping and Cheryl Wilcox of Dover; three grandchildren, Daniel Daugherty of Dover, Samantha Lynn Goeddeke-Wilcox of Dover and Amanda Rose Goeddeke-Wilcox of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Angela Wilcox of Norfolk, Mass.; a sister, Marilyn E. Caligiure of Dover; three brothers, Earl Frederick Keen of Rochester, Arthur B. Keen of Pine View, N.C., and Gerald W. Keen of North Berwick, Maine; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her son, Richard Wilcox; a sister, Eleanor Keen; and a brother, Edward A. Keen.

WILCOX - Mrs. Joyce A. (Keen) Wilcox, 63, of 682 Sherwood Glen, Somersworth, died March 15, 2002. A funeral service will be held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, Tues. 10AM. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home, Mon. 6-8PM. Flowers will be accepted.

V. Allen Shouse

PORTSMOUTH - V. Allen Shouse, 82, of 249 Pleasant St., died Friday March 15, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Born in Madison, Ga., June 24, 1920, he was the son of William and Lillian (Chapman) Shouse. He attended Madison elementary schools, Morgan High School, Class of 1938, and graduated from West Georgia College in 1941. He entered the military in 1941 as a lieutenant and served with the 376th Bomber Group as bombardier on a B-24 Liberator, completing 50 missions over North Africa. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He completed his service as a bombardier flight instructor at Midland, Texas, with the rank of captain.

A resident of Portsmouth since 1946, he retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1988.

He married Elizabeth (Higgins) Shouse of Portsmouth in 1944. She passed away in 1997.

Survivors include his 10 children, M. Allen Shouse of Germany; E. Martina Graham of Eliot, Maine; Anthony Shouse of Huntsville, Ala.; Stephen Shouse of Kingsland, Ga.; Kathryn Casey Shouse of Hampton; William Shouse of Portland, Maine; Rebecca Shouse, J. Robert Shouse and Thomas Shouse, all of Portsmouth; 10 grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Williams of Tallapoosa, Ga.

SHOUSE - V. Allen Shouse, 82, of Portsmouth died March 15, 2002. Funeral services will be held at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Paul Keriazes

HAMPTON - Paul Keriazes, 70, of 12th Street, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at the Seacoast Health Center.

He was born on Jan. 31, 1932, in Manchester, a son of the late Andrew and Vasilike (Zekos) Keriazes. He had been a resident here for the past 14 years, having come from Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

A veteran of the Korean conflict, he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for 30 years as an electrical engineer for IBM's research and development facility in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., retiring in 1987.

He was a 1951 graduate of Manchester Central High School and after the war attended the college prep program at Brewster Academy in Wolfboro, Class of 1954; Wentworth Institute in Boston, Mass., Class of 1957; and Marist College in Poughkeepsie, Class of 1969. He was fond of riding his bicycle, working in his gardens, playing bridge and living at the shore. He was a member of the Portsmouth Lodge of Elks #97.

Family members include his wife of 45 years, Catherine (Kanteres) Keriazes of Hampton; a daughter, Paula Keriazes of New York, N.Y.; a son, Andrew Keriazes of Rensselaer, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Kristina Keriazes; a brother, Steve Keriazes of Hooksett; five sisters, Eva Covatis and Alice Lylis of Hampton, Maria Sanders and Joanne Keriazes of Manchester, and Elizabeth Hatzos of Barnstead; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Louis, Apostolos and Harry Keriazes.

KERIAZES - Paul Keriazes of 12th Street, Hampton, died Saturday, March 16, 2002. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Alice S. Coughlin

PORTSMOUTH - Alice S. Coughlin, 98, formerly of 390 State St., died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at the Mark Wentworth Home.

Born in Portsmouth on March 5, 1904, she was a daughter of Patrick and Mary (Hopkins) Coughlin. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and Plymouth Business School.

She was employed for some time at Hislop's Garage and then went to work at the Portsmouth Herald in the accounting department, retiring after 42 years.

She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. She had a great fondness for animals.

Survivors include her nieces, Kathleen Kennedy, Jeanne Haley, Louise Caverly, Ann Rutledge and Mary Ann Lambros; a nephew, Timothy Francois; and great-grandnieces -nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Patrick, James and John Coughlin; and five sisters, Ellen Hogan, Mary Rutledge, Dorothy Jacobs, Catherine Kennedy and Florence Coughlin.

COUGHLIN - Alice S. Coughlin, 98, of 346 Pleasant St., died Saturday, March 16, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Alfred G. Clocher III

ELIOT, Maine - Alfred G. Clocher III, 58, of Eliot died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born March 29, 1943, in Wilmington, N.C., the son of Alfred G. and Caroline (Mafley) Clocher of Lake Helen, Fla. He lived most of his life in Peabody, Mass., and was a graduate of Peabody High School. He had lived in the Seacoast area since 1995 and in Eliot since 1998.

He worked for several years as a self-employed landscaper and was an interstate driver for Westside Trucking of Des Moines, Iowa. He was a member of the 5th Chapter Motorcycle Club of Lynn, Mass., and attended Bethany Church in Greenland.

In addition to his parents, family members include a son, Carl Clocher of Peabody, Mass.; a daughter, Heather Clocher of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and a sister, Christine Clocher of West Hartford, Conn.

CLOCHER - Alfred G. Clocher III, 58, of Eliot died Saturday, March 16, 2002. Services will be held at Bethany Church in Greenland at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Lawrence F. Dacey

KITTERY, Maine - Lawrence F. "Larry" Dacey, 62, died March 16, 2002, after a lengthy battle with cancer. For the past three years he had been a resident at the Harbor Home in York.

He was born on July 17, 1939, a son of the late James and Margaret (Boehme) Dacey.

He attended Eliot and Kittery schools and spent most of his life working as a chef at many Seacoast area restaurants. He is survived by his wife, Laurie (Flynn) Dacey; two daughters, Meagan Rose and Shannon Eileen; sons Lawrence Dacey Jr. of Haverhill, Mass., and Timothy Dacey of Haverhill, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Samantha, Timothy, Justin, Joshua, Johnathan, Richard and Nathan; two sisters, Florence Fletcher of York, and Peggy Hill of Middleton, Mass.; and his very special and dear lifelong friends Henry and Sandra Tremblay and their four children, William, Raymond, Christine and Joann.

He was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters.

DACEY - Lawrence F. "Larry" Dacey, 62, of Kittery, Maine, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m., on Wednesday at the funeral home.

E. JoAnn Hill

SOUTH HAMPTON - E. JoAnn (Paquette) Hill, a 30-year resident of South Hampton, died Friday, March 15, 2002, after a lengthy illness. She died peacefully in her home, with her children and other family members present.

Born in Manchester on March 26, 1936, she was the eldest child of the late Rena (Ferland) and Arthur W. Paquette of Manchester.

She graduated from Mary Hitchcock Memorial School of Nursing in 1956 and worked as a registered nurse in Manchester and Concord and in Portland, Maine, and Amesbury, Mass. After becoming certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner, and earning a B.S. in human services administration, she served as nurse manager of Hogan Regional Center in Danvers, Mass. In addition, she served on the executive committee of the New Hampshire Municipal Association, the board of directors of the Seacoast Visiting Nurses, and the board of directors of Haverhill/Newburyport Human Services Inc.

She will best be remembered as a cherished sister, a loving and dedicated mother, a caring and compassionate nurse, a respected selectwoman and zoning board member in her community, cemetery trustee, the writer of a monthly gardening column in her local paper, and a mentor to many in her community.

She is survived by her four children, Heather, Melissa, Julia and Dana; her sister, Nadine Larrabee; her brothers, Victor and Arthur Paquette; 10 grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

HILL - E. JoAnn (Paquette) Hill, of South Hampton, died March 15, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2002, at the South Hampton Baptist Church, Jewell Street, South Hampton. All are welcome to attend. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford. By request of the family, there are no calling hours. V. Allen Shouse

Cecile M. Dillon

PORTSMOUTH - Cecile May (Curtis) Dillon, 74, widow of Thomas Dillon, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre.

Born in Hanover on Nov. 6, 1927, she was a daughter of Wilfred and Aurore (Beland) Curtis. She was a graduate of North Woodstock High School in North Woodstock.

She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth and had been an active volunteer at the Edgewood Centre.

Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Stewart on Bedford, and Catherine Turck of Charlestown, R.I.; a son, Edward Dillon of Shreveport, La.; five grandchildren, Kimberly, James, Carrie, Christopher and Jennifer; two great-grandchildren, Leah and Katlyn; a brother, Paul Curtis of Port Isabel, Texas; two sisters, Elaine Rogers of Natick, Mass., and Dorothy LaBrecque of Sanbornton.

DILLON - Cecile May (Curtis) Dillon, 74, of Portsmouth, died Sunday, March 17, 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. There are no visiting hours. Pearl M. Ferrelli

GREENLAND - Pearl (Keene) Mills Ferrelli, 92, widow of Joseph M. Ferrelli, of 188 Portsmouth Ave., died Monday, March 18, 2002, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Kittery, Maine, on Nov. 18, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Dora E. (Granfield) Keene. She attended Portsmouth High School.

She was employed as a paymaster at the former Morley Button Co. in Portsmouth, retiring in 1975 after 33 years.

She enjoyed her many friendships from the "Pic'n Pay Coffee Club" and loved to go down to the beach and look out over the ocean, and she truly appreciated her daughters and their families.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Beatty and her husband, Charley, of Greenland, and Joan Murphy of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Pamela Murphy of Concord, Tom Mills of Newington, Clara Ricker of Hooksett, and John Mills of Connecticut; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Herbert C. Mills, on Sept. 30, 1981.

FERRELLI - Pearl (Keene) Mills Ferrelli, 92, of 188 Portsmouth Ave., Greenland, died March 18, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Portsmouth Home Health & Hospice Services, Attn: Hospice Program, 95 Albany St., Unit 11, Portsmouth, NH 03801, or to a charity of one's choice.
