Helen M. Pollard

HAMPTON - Helen M. Pollard, 94, died May 18, 2002, at the Seacoast Health Center.

She was born in Lakewood, Ohio, on Jan. 14, 1908, the daughter of the late Edward H. and Caroline (Lawson) Morrill.

She was raised in Englewood, N.J., and graduated from Englewood High School.

She was the wife of the late Harry G. Pollard Jr. from Lowell, Mass., who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired in the Portsmouth area as a captain.

She was a member of the Rye Congregational Church, was an avid golfer and was a former member of the Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro, Mass., and Abenaqui Country Club, Rye Beach. She was interested in the arts and was a founder of the Rye Art Study Group.

Family members include two sons, Harry G. Pollard III and Robert Stuart Pollard; four grandchildren, Harry G. IV, Hardy, Jennifer and Elizabeth; and four great-grandchildren.

At Mrs. Pollard's request an anatomical donation of her body was made to Tufts University Medical School, Boston, Mass.

Mary L. Haenichen

YORK, Maine - Mary L. Haenichen, 80, of 65 Riverwood Drive died Monday, May 27, 2002, at York Hospital.

She was born in Paterson, N.J., on Dec. 28, 1921, the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Jackson) Post. She was a graduate of Eastside High School in Paterson, N.J.

Mrs. Haenichen had worked as a laboratory technician at the University of Vermont Medical School for many years.

She had formerly lived in New Jersey, Vermont and Virginia, moving to York in 1986.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of York-Ogunquit and had been active in the United Methodist Women's Group. She was a former member of the Hibenwood Presbyterian Church in Newport News, Va., and the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church of Paterson, N.J.

She was predeceased by her husband, Karl F. Haenichen Jr., who died in 1986.

Survivors include two sons, Robert K. Haenichen of York, and Frederick B. Haenichen of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; and one grandson, Timothy Haenichen.

HAENICHEN - Mary L. Haenichen, 80, of Riverwood Drive, York, Maine, died May 27, 2002, in York. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 31, in the United Methodist Church of York-Ogunquit, Route 1, York. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, N.E. Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Priscilla Levy

PORTSMOUTH - Priscilla Levy, 83, of 170 Aldrich Road, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre after a period of failing health.

Born in Portsmouth on March 22, 1919, she was the daughter of John and Frances (McCarthy) Hassett and was a lifelong resident here. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School with the Class of 1937.

She was retired from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard with 31 years of service.

She was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and at the time of her death held the longest membership at Portsmouth Country Club.

The widow of Morris P. "Mike" Levy, she is survived by a niece, Linda H. Craul of Pensacola, Fla.; two nephews, John J. Hassett III of New York City, and Stephen Michael Hassett of Pensacola, Fla.; and several grandnieces and -nephews.

LEVY - Priscilla (Hassett) Levy, 83, of 170 Aldrich Road, Portsmouth, died Monday, May 27, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the chapel at Calvary Cemetery. Friends are invited. There are no visiting hours. Arrangements are by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.

Kevin P. Foley

PORTSMOUTH - Kevin Patrick Foley, 50, of 579 Maplewood Ave., died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Keene on April 7, 1952, he was a son of the late Frank J. and Pauline (Irwin) Foley and had been a resident of the Seacoast area for the past 30 years.

He was employed with the Hi-Tech Hose company in Georgetown, Mass., and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks in Keene.

Survivors include his wife, Karen (Holmes) Foley; three children, Michael Foley and Meghan Foley, both of Nashua, and Jared Foley of Portsmouth; three brothers, Frank Foley of Burlington, Vt., John Foley of Portsmouth, and Thomas Foley of Ipswich, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

FOLEY - Kevin P. Foley, 50, of 579 Maplewood Ave., died Tuesday, May 28, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Middle Street Baptist Church. Visiting hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St. Burial will take place later at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NAMI of New Hampshire, 10 Ferry St., #314, Concord, NH 03301.

Esther S. Keough

PORTSMOUTH - Esther S. Keough, 94, of 245 Middle St., died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre.

Born in North Andover, Mass., on Dec. 8, 1907, she was the daughter of James and Gertrude Cavanaugh and was a longtime resident of Portsmouth.

She was employed as a nursing supervisor at Portsmouth Hospital for 20 years before retiring.

She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and the nurses' Sunshine Club.

The widow of Charles F. Keough, who died in 1983, she is survived by her daughter, Jean Ward of Portsmouth; her grandchildren, Michael Ward of Florida, and Suzanne Tsintolas and her husband, Steve, of Maryland; and a great-grandson, Charles Tsintolas.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lori Ward.

KEOUGH - Esther S. Keough 94, of 245 Middle St., died Tuesday, May 28, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Friends are invited. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lori Ward Memorial Trust, c/o N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885-0196. Arrangements are by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.

Annie B. Perkins

RUMFORD, Maine - Annie Brooks Perkins, 87, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at the Rumford Community Home. She was a resident of Intervale Road in Bethel. She was formerly of Kittery Point.

Born in Chicago, Ill., she was a daughter of Harry and Sophia (Plaisting) Brooks. She was a graduate of Haverill High School. She worked at the main desk as an office clerk and receptionist at the Portsmouth Herald newspaper in Portsmouth, N.H., for many years until her retirement.

She was married in Haverill, Mass., to the late George Perkins, who died in November of 1973.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Wight and her husband, Eric, of Bethel; a son, Harry Brooks and his wife, Ann, of Groveland, Mass.; one sister, Doris Sabbagh of Escondido, Calif.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

PERKINS - Annie Brooks Perkins, 87, of Rumford, Maine, died May 28, 2002. Private graveside services will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot, Maine. Those who desire may contribute to the Maine Alzheimer's Assoc., 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101, in her memory. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford, Maine.

Edith M. McCarthy

JENSEN BEACH, Fla. - Edith Mary McCarthy, 55, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at her residence.

She was born in Portsmouth, N.H., and had been a resident of Jensen Beach for 19 years, having moved from Hooksett, N.H.

Prior to her retirement, she was a registered nurse at St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie for 19 years.

Survivors include a brother, Bennett D. McCarthy and his wife, Sandra, of Jensen Beach; a niece, Catherine Tardie of Jensen Beach; a nephew, Daniel McCarthy of Ft. Eustis, Va.; and a longtime friend, Patricia Sadler of Jensen Beach.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Diane O'Connor

FRANKLIN, Mass. - Diane O'Connor, 51, of 19 Juna Way, formerly of North Hampton, N.H., died Monday, May 27, 2002, at her home after a sudden illness.

She was born in Methuen, Mass., on May 2, 1951, a daughter of M. Doris (Gaumond) O'Connor of North Hampton, N.H., and the late Ralph A. O'Connor.

She was a graduate of Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, N.H., with the Class of 1969, and attended the University of New Hampshire.

She was employed as a financial executive for the Bose Speaker Corporation in Framingham for 25 years. She had resided in Franklin for the past 10 years, having moved from Worcester.

She was a caring, thoughtful and generous woman who enjoyed friends, co-workers, family - especially her nieces and nephew and their children - her work and work-related travel assignments, home, and dogs Boris and Natasha.

She was active in supporting the Special Olympics.

In addition to her mother, family members include three brothers, Ralph A. "Bud" O'Connor Jr. and his wife, Patty, of North Hampton, N.H., Jerry O'Connor and his wife, Kim, of Wakefield, N.H., and Dan O'Connor of North Hampton, N.H.; two sisters, Sharon O'Connor of Exeter, N.H., and Kathleen O'Connor of Portsmouth, N.H.; nieces Meghan and Erin Brown of York, Maine, and Melissa and her husband, Kevin Janvrin, of Seabrook, N.H.; nephew Bill and his wife, Stefanie O'Connor, of Hampton, N.H.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

O'CONNOR - Diane O'Connor, 51, of Franklin, Mass., formerly of North Hampton, died Monday, May 27, 2002. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. If desired, donations may be made to Special Olympics, 650 Elm St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Esther M. Kucharski

EXETER - The funeral for Esther M. Kucharski, 87, of 28 Sherwood Forest, was held Wednesday from the Stockbridge Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial was concelebrated at Saint Michael Parish in Exeter.

Her son, the Rev. Steven M. Kucharski, pastor of St. Mary Parish, Rollinsford, and Holy Trinity Parish, Somersworth, was the principal celebrant, with the Most Rev. Francis Christian, auxiliary bishop of Manchester, presiding.

Concelebrants were the Rev. Marc Drouin, pastor, and the Rev. Richard St. Louis, associate pastor of St. Michael Parish; the Rev. Donald Clinton, pastor of St. Bernard Parish, Keene; the Rev. Gerard Boucher, retired of St. Charles Parish, Meredith; the Rev. Aaron Pfaff, pastor of St. Martin Parish, Somersworth; the Rev. Marc Montminy, pastor, and the Rev. Richard Tetu, associate judicial vicar of St. Marie Parish, Manchester; the Rev. Richard Giroux, pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Tilton; the Rev. Edward Kelley, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, Portsmouth; the Rev. Timothy Thibeault, pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, Penacook; the Rev. Leo Leblanc, pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, Manchester; the Rev. Michael Griffin, senior priest, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish, Hampton; and the Rev. Humberto Olivera, rector of St. Joseph Cathedral, Manchester.

Altar servers were Joseph Latour, Al Markey and Ray Russell.

Denise Kelly was organist, and Jennifer Gaines was soloist.

Her children, Patrice D. Kucharski, Bonnie A. Constantakos, Susan M. Fitzpatrick, Peter Kucharski, and the Rev. Kucharski placed the pall on Mrs. Kucharski's casket.

Susan Moore offered the scriptural readings.

Patrice D. Kucharski and Bonnie A. Constantakos presented the Gifts to the altar.

Burial followed in the Exeter Cemetery, with committal prayers offered by the Rev. Kucharski and the Rev. Clinton.

Pallbearers were Tristan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Aaron Fitzpatrick, Kevin Fitzpatrick, George Constantakos, Nicholas Constantakos and Christopher Call.

Amanda R. Harman

PORTSMOUTH - Amanda R. Harman died at the Edgewood Centre on May 21, 2002, of old age.

Born June 11, 1899, she was the daughter of Judge F.X. Ransdell and Katie (Davis) Ransdell of Lake Providence, La., and the niece of U.S. Senator Joseph E. Ransdell of Louisiana.

She graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, having studied violin, piano and composition. She was a highly talented violinist, playing in the first violin section of the Woman's Symphony in Baltimore. She played on radio and at many recitals. She also graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore with a Bachelor of Science degree.

In her midlife, she obtained a position as music examiner in the music copyright division of the Library of Congress. Using her encyclopedic knowledge of music, she worked there for 30 years. In her retirement she still played at many functions and tended her 100 rose bushes. During her years at the library and afterward, she was a world traveler, traveling many times to Europe, England and Ireland, Scandinavia, Poland, Russia, the Pacific, Tahiti, Hong Kong, Japan and a trip through the Panama Canal.

She had a life that spanned three centuries, full of accomplishment and interest. Her music gave pleasure to many.

She is survived by a daughter, Anne Tiebout of Portsmouth; a grandson, Stephen R. Tiebout of South Berwick, Maine; two great-grandsons, Andrew and Timothy; and many nieces and nephews.

Alice A. Parent

PORTSMOUTH - Alice A. Parent, 53, of 92 Cass St., died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at her home.

A 12-year resident of Portsmouth, she was born on May 1, 1949, in Lowell, Mass., a daughter of Arthur and Agnes Parent. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Tyngsboro, Mass., in 1966. After graduation she studied at the Massachusetts College of Art. She also attended the University of Massachusetts. She later served for five years in the United States Army, working in computer repair.

A lifelong artist, she excelled at quilting, stippling, drawing and watercolor. She shared her passion for art with friends and family. She also was an avid reader and cyclist.

She worked at Heinemann Publishing in Portsmouth for the past 10 years, where she was a beloved co-worker.

She was preceded in death by both parents.

She is survived by her sister, Ellen Parent of Phelps Street in Kittery, Maine; and her brother, Arthur Parent.

She will be missed by many.

A private memorial service will be held during the summer. Donations can be made in her name to the New Hampshire SPCA, Portsmouth Avenue, Stratham, NH 03885.

Jacqueline E. Trafton

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Jacqueline E. "Jackie" Trafton, 59, of 70 Pond Road, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H., following a long illness.

Born Aug. 22, 1942, in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of John G. and Elizabeth R. (McGuire) O'Dowd.

She was a graduate of St. Claire High School in West Roxbury, Mass., and had been a resident of South Berwick for the past 31 years.

She was well known for her 13 years of dedicated service as a clerk in the town clerk's office in South Berwick.

She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church.

She enjoyed trips to Rangeley, her flower garden, gardening and her dog Jessie.

Family members include her husband, Gordon B. "Bruce" Trafton of South Berwick; her son, Keith G. Trafton of Eliot; two brothers, Richard G. O'Dowd of Pembroke, Mass., and Dr. Philip O'Dowd of Barrington, R.I.; her sister-in-law, Carol O'Dowd of Pembroke, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

TRAFTON - Jacqueline E. "Jackie" Trafton, 59, South Berwick, Maine, died Thursday, May 30, 2002. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick, Maine. A Liturgy of the Word service will be conducted on Saturday at St. Michael's Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Seacoast Cancer Clinic, c/o Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, 789 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820.
