Dianne (Traynor) Stoddard

HAMPTON, N.H. - Dianne (Traynor) Stoddard, 58, of 340 Lafayette Road, Hampton, passed away peacefully in Somersworth on Wednesday, July 24, 2002, after a period of declining health.

Born in Bristol, Conn., on July 20, 1944, she was the daughter of the late James T. and Marjorie (Carreia) Traynor. She was educated in the Bristol school system and was a college graduate. She worked as an ambulatory lab technician, with Path Lab Services in numerous health care facilities.

She reveled in beautiful clothes and opulent adornments. She loved shopping and pampering herself. Her most enjoyable times were quiet evenings at home, good television, and the company of her closest friends. Just 10 days ago, Dianne celebrated her 58th birthday surrounded by her family visiting from Pennsylvania. She benefited from the numerous kindness extended to her by her loving husband Bill, who worked tirelessly to help her as declining health prevailed. Generous to a fault, she enjoyed caring for her family and friends and doing for others whenever possible. A loving mother, she provided the best for her children helping them with their first cars and jobs, and was always there when they needed her. Her captivating and vibrant personality, and caring nature made her a pleasure to be around. With such personal qualities as these, Dianne filled any room with life and energy.

Mrs. Stoddard was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton.

In addition to her husband of 10 years, William J. Stoddard; her daughter Deborah (Traynor) Montelione Sondrini of Conn.; her son, Keith Grant of Fla.; her brother, James Traynor and his wife Henrietta of Ga.; her sisters, Marcia of Pa., and Valerie of Ga.; her grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

STODDARD - Dianne (Traynor) Stoddard, 58, of 340 Lafayette Road, Hampton, died on July 24, 2002. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Lafayette Road, Hampton, at 10 a.m., on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002. Burial will be in Bristol, Conn., at a later date. In her memory, contributions may be made to Crossroads House Inc., 600 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements by the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, 24 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton, NH 03842.

Rose A. Fuller

NORTH HAMPTON - Rose A. Fuller, 91, of North Road, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at her home after a period of failing health.

She was born in Exeter on April 28, 1911, the daughter of the late Willis and Lizzie (Broulet) Audette. She had resided in North Hampton for 12 years and in Seabrook for more than 40 years.

She was a member of Oceanside Grange No. 260, the Tide Mill Chapter No. 67 O.E.S., and the Winnacummet Lodge of Rebekahs No. 26, all of Hampton.

She was the widow of Phillip F. Fuller, who died in 1983.

Family members include four sons, Albert Walton of Sarasota, Fla., Franklin V. Fuller of Hampton Falls, Henry B. Fuller of North Hampton, and Dale E. Fuller of Hudson; a daughter, Holly A. Welsh of Barrington; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

FULLER - Rose A. Fuller, 91, of North Road, North Hampton, died July 30, 2002. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook. If desired, donations may be made to the Seaside Elderly Day Out Center, 441R Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842.

Mary Ellen Herlihy

PORTSMOUTH - Mary Ellen Herlihy, 83, formerly of Dennett St., passed away Monday, July 29, 2002 at the Mark Wentworth Nursing Home.

Born in Lowell, Mass., Jan. 21, 1919 she was the daughter of Richard and Mary (McLaughlin) Henry. She attended Immaculate Conception School and was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Lowell. She moved to Portsmouth after her marriage to Thomas E. Herlihy of Portsmouth. She was employed during World War II at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. After the war her primary focus in life was being a loving mother and grandmother. She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church and was a member of the Womens’ Club. Her husband of 57 years, Thomas, died in 1998. Survivors include her daughter Susan Suffridge of Ormond Beach, Fla.; her sons, Michael Herlihy of Atlanta, Ga., Thomas Herlihy of Fairfax, Va.; and Peter Herlihy of Cincinnati, Ohio; nine grandchildren; one brother, Robert Henry of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.

HERLIHY - Mary Ellen Herlihy, 83, formerly of Dennett St. died July 29, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church on Woodbury Avenue in Portsmouth on Friday at 10 a.m. Visiting hours at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St. Portsmouth, on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of New Hampshire, 10 Ferry St. Suite 419 Concord, NH 03301.

Leo "Lee" Luce Parsons

YORK HARBOR, Maine - Leo "Lee" Luce Parsons, 83, of 560 York St., died Monday, July 29, 2002, at York Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Kittery on Oct. 4, 1918, a son of Malcolm H. and Essie Pierce Parsons, the youngest of five brothers and four sisters. He had lived here since 1931.

He attended Kittery and York schools and graduated from York High School in 1935.

He was a naval hull inspector from 1942 to 1945 at Electric Boat Company in Groton, Conn., and Wilmington, N.C. He also served in the Merchant Marine from 1943 to 1944. It was in Groton that he met his wife, the former Regina I. Weed, and they were married in New London, Conn., on Dec. 26, 1944.

At the end of World War II, he returned to Maine and joined his father at M.H. Parsons & Sons Lumber Company, where he continued to operate it with his brothers after his father died. Although the company no longer is involved in lumber operations, he actively managed its commercial real estate holdings until he was stricken two weeks ago.

He was a member of the Masons in Niantic, Conn., and Kora Temple Shrine in Lewiston, Maine. He was a member of the Federal and Mechanic Fire Societies in Portsmouth, N.H., and was a director of the First National Bank of Portsmouth, N.H. He always enjoyed traveling to many countries with his wife and many friends.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Willis, Robert and Lester; and two sisters, Essie and Irma.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, "Reggie" I. Parsons of York Harbor; a son, John Parsons, and his wife Pam, of Kittery; a daughter, Chris Mank and her husband Bill, of Camden; a brother, Clayton Parsons of York; two sisters, Arlene Parsons of Clearwater, Fla., and Jean Read of Augusta, Maine; and five grandchildren; Judd and Mikayla Parsons of York, Alex Carey of New York City, and Leanna and Vitya Mank of Camden.

PARSONS - Leo "Lee" Luce Parsons, 83, of 560 York St., died Monday, July 29, 2002, at York Hospital following a brief illness. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at First Parish Congregational Church, York. The Rev. Richard Knight will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Linda Hirst. Interment will be in First Parish Cemetery, York. Should friends desire, memorial contributions to the York Volunteer Ambulance Association, P. O. Box 238, York, ME 03909, would be appreciated.

Marion R. Bean

EXETER - Marion R. Bean, 58, of Exeter Farms Road, died July 31, 2002, at the Exeter Hospital after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

She was born Dec. 8, 1943, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of the late Martin and Dorothy (Pimental) Reis. She grew up in Rockland, Mass. and has resided in Exeter since 1999.

She enjoyed creating arts and crafts and was a member of the art therapy group at the Exeter Hospital.

She also loved to cook and was devoted to her family. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Exeter.

In addition to her husband of 37 years, Stephen C. Bean of Exeter, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George L. (Christina M.) Hurst of Gilford, and Mrs. . Joseph M. Berwanger (Colette E. Bean) of Hampton; three grandchildren, MacKenzie K. Hurst and Brogan C. Hurst of Gilford, and Michael R.B. Berwanger of Hampton; three brothers, Robert Reis of Plymouth, Mass., Joseph Reis of Rockland, Mass., and Richard Reis of Rockland, Mass.; three sisters, Dorothy Reis of East Falmouth, Mass., Kathleen Laramee of Plymouth, Mass., and Sharon Adams of Abbington, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

BEAN - Marion R. Bean, 58, of Exeter Farms Road, Exeter, died July 31, 2002. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, at St. Michael’s Church, located on the corner of Front Street and Lincoln Street in Exeter. Burial will follow in the Exeter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.

Clifford Warg

KITTERY POINT - Clifford Warg, 83, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at his home.

Born on July 10, 1919, in Detroit, Mich., he was a son of Rudolph and Clara (May) Warg. He attended local schools, graduating from River Rouge High School with the Class of 1937. He graduated from the University of Michigan and did postgraduate work at MIT.

He served his country during World War II as a flight instructor in the U.S. Army Air Force, stationed in Texas. His love of flying continued throughout his life; in his younger years he enjoyed piloting his Steerman Bi-Wing airplane throughout the country.

He was married in 1946 to his loving wife of more than 56 years, Marguerite (Kaiser) Warg. They traveled to a number of cities throughout the United States for his career. They settled in and made their home in Kittery Point in 1987.

He was employed by the United States government working as an aeronautical engineer. He was instrumental in the development of the rocket engine for the X-15; a model of it, which he made, is still on display in the Air Force Museum near Dayton, Ohio. He also supervised the team that developed the engine for the second stage of the Saturn 5 space rocket. He was also present and observed the liftoff and eventual moon landing and moonwalk of the Apollo space crew.

He was a member of the New Apostolic Church. He also enjoyed doing puzzles and making models.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by their daughters, Pauline Warg and her husband, Gary Snider, of Waterboro, and Laurel Warg Jamieson and her husband, William Jamieson of Manchester; two grandchildren, Bethany McEllin and Alec Jamieson; and two great-grandchildren, Cala McEllin and Joaquin Jamieson.

WARG - Clifford Warg, 83, of Kittery Point, Maine, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at his home. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. Please omit flowers; donations may be made in his memory to York Hospital, Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909. Arrangements are entrusted to the J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery, Maine.

Stella Marie Berard

PORTSMOUTH - Stella Marie Berard, 90, formerly of 1155 Islington St., died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Amesbury, Mass., on June 12, 1912, she was the daughter of Louis and Arthemise (Jutras) Gosselin. She had been a resident of Portsmouth since 1942 and was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed music, line dancing, reading and crossword puzzles. She will be greatly missed by all.

The widow of Paul Berard, who died in 1985, she is survived by her children, Richard Berard of Chelmsford, Mass., Patricia Peacock of Rye, and Paul Berard of Napa, Calif.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilfred Gosselin of Amesbury, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

BERARD - Stella Marie Berard, 90, of Portsmouth, died July 31, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth. Visiting hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.

Mildred M. Nichol

PORTSMOUTH - Mildred M. Nichol, 93, formerly of Hillcrest Estates, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Jan. 12, 1909, the daughter of the late Joseph and Jane (Moody) Murray.

She was raised in Pittsburgh and resided there for many years. She had resided in Portsmouth the past 30 years, having moved from Boston, and attended the Bethany Congregational Church.

She was the wife of the late Ralph C. Nichol, who died in 1969, and was also predeceased by two sons, Ralph M. Nichol, who died in 1994, and Samuel S. Nichol, who died in 1958.

Family members include one daughter in law, Phyllis D. Nichol of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Joseph N. Nichol of Portsmouth, Sharon Schniedewind of Portland, Ore., and Elizabeth Brooker of Eliot, Maine; and four great-grandchildren.

NICHOL - Mildred M. Nichol, 93, of 928 South St., Portsmouth, died July 30, 2002. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Bethany Congregational Church, Greenland. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests there be no visiting hours and that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the Bethany Congregational Church, 500 Breakfast Hill Road, Greenland, NH 03840. Assistance with the arrangements is by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory Hampton.

Joseph L. Louther III

PORTSMOUTH - Joseph L. Louther III, 66, of 64 Melbourne St., died on Tuesday July 30, 2002, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Portsmouth on March 4, 1936, he was the son of the late Joseph and Alice (Kane) Louther Jr. He attended Portsmouth schools and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After his tour was over, he joined the U.S. Air Force and retired as an air traffic controller. He then went to work for the state of West Virginia as a surveyor. He returned to Portsmouth several years ago but still maintained his residence in South Charleston, W.Va.

Husband of the late Shirley Faye (Lore) Louther, he is survived by his four children, Mark Louther of Jacksonville, N.C., Joseph L. Louther IV of South Charleston, W.Va., and Sherrie Louther and Michele Louther, both of Newport News, Va.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Joan Cyr.

LOUTHER - Joseph L. Louther III, 66, of 64 Melbourne St., died July 30, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the Old St. Mary Cemetery on Greenland Road. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, prior to the service.

Katherine P. Arren

HAMPTON - The funeral for Katherine P. Arren, 91, of 777 Lafayette Road, was held Wednesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. Phillip J. Enrico, associate pastor, was the celebrant. Nelson K. Ward was organist, and Mary Louise Arcidi was soloist. James A. Leddy offered the reading. Altar servers were members of the Holy Name Society, who included John Chory, Laurence Murphy and Francis Ryan. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park, Mass.

Suzann Bauer-Luceri

STRATHAM - Suzann Bauer-Luceri, 40, of 5 Dumbarton Oaks, died suddenly on Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Born in Portsmouth on April 21, 1962, she was a daughter of Frederick and Adrienne (Shannon) Bauer. She graduated from Portsmouth High School and was president of the Class of 1980. She graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, where she received her undergraduate degree, and also graduated from the university’s dental school in 1988. For the past seven years she had operated her dental practice in Rochester.

She was a member of the New Hampshire Dental Society and the American Dental Society, and was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Portsmouth.

In addition to her parents of Portsmouth, she is survived by her husband, David C. Luceri, and her two daughters, Adrienne E. Luceri and Arianna S. Luceri, all of Stratham; sisters Gail Williams and her husband, Greg, of Roslyn, Calif., Michelle Zaremba and her husband, Jack, of Acton, Mass., Nancy E Bauer of Newton, Mass., and Elaine S. Bauer of Greenland; brothers Gary Bauer and his wife, Martha, of Hope, Idaho, Michael F. Bauer of Hilton Head, S.C., Anthony Bauer and his wife, Robin, of Stratham, and Gregory Bauer and his wife, Nicole, of Hampton; and several nieces and nephews.

BAUER-LUCERI - Suzann Bauer-Luceri, 40, of Stratham, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Woodbury Avenue, Portsmouth. Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Memorials in her name may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire, 66 Hanover St., Suite #101, Manchester, NH 03101-2230.

Walter S. Kelly

HOLYOKE, Mass. - Walter S. Kelly, 62, of Holyoke, formerly of Portsmouth, N.H., died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Black) Kelly; four sons, Ross of Maine, John of Holyoke, James of Boston, and Michael of North Carolina; two brothers, Peter of Boston and Paul of New Hampshire; three sisters, Mary Hemingway and Patricia Zikorus of Connecticut, and Margaret Desilets of New Hampshire; and two grandchildren. YORK BEACH, Maine - Earl T. Bryant, 81, of 36 Shore Road, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at York Hospital.

He was born on March 10, 1921, in St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada, the son of George and Edna M. (Lovell) Bryant. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan High School in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Mr. Bryant served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient.

He was employed by New England Telephone for 30 years, retiring in 1977 as assistant state plant manager.

He was a trustee of the Ogunquit Museum of American Art and a member of St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge.

He enjoyed lobstering, woodworking, and was an avid hunter.

He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Freeman Bryant, who died Oct. 6, 1999.

Survivors include one son, Robert W. Bryant and his wife, Judith, of Cape Neddick; one daughter, Donna Shepheard and her husband, Frank, of York Beach; one sister, Jean Steidel of Tustin, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

KELLY - Walter S. Kelly, 62, of Holyoke, Mass., native of Portsmouth, died Aug. 1, 2002. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, Holyoke, followed by a Mass in Holy Cross Church at 9:30 a.m. Calling hours are Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
