Kenneth W. White, 65, of Effingham, died Oct. 25, 2001, at his home after a period of failing health. He was born June 15, 1936, in Salem, Mass., and had lived in Middleton, Mass., for many years, moving to Effingham in 1975. Ken had worked for Salem Suede Company for 24 years and purchased the Indian Mound Irving Station in 1979, which he and his wife operated until retiring last month.
Ken was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Jordan Lodge AF&AM, Peabody, Mass., and was a member of the former Ossipee Elks, Ossipee.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Diane (Brown) White of Effingham; four sons, Kenneth W. White Jr. of Peabody, Mass., Robert A. White of Derry, Wayne W. White of Center Ossipee, and John D. White of Mississippi; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee. Burial will be in the Chickville Cemetery in Center Ossipee.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Ossipee Concerned Citizens, Center Ossipee, NH 03814.

J. Robert Thoms of Freeport, Maine, formerly of Eaton, died peacefully at his home with his family.
He leaves his wife, Pauline Thoms of Sarasota, Fla.; a son, William F. Thoms III and his wife, Sandy, of Eaton; two daughters, Lizette Snyder of Eaton and Gretchen Thoms of India; three step-daughters, Karen Johnson of Center Conway, Gail Johnson of Sarasota, Fla., and Beth Enwright of Lutz, Fla.; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Preston H. Sanborn, 74, of Gorham, Maine, and formerly of Northeast Carry, Maine, died Oct. 22, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine.
He was born Sept. 9, 1927, in Limington, Maine, a son of Warren N. and Bertha E. Stone Sanborn.
Mr. Sanborn was educated in Westbrook, Maine, schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He worked at S.D. Warren Paper Mill of Westbrook for 42 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Westbrook American Legion and North Bay Road Association of Rockwood, Maine.
Mr. Sanborn was an avid hunter and fisherman.
His wife of 21 years, Lillian E. Sanborn, died Dec 31, 1992.
Surviving are one daughter, Ellen Sanborn of Gorham; one step-daughter, Shirley Johnson of Gorham; one brother, Warren N. Sanborn Jr. of Brownfield, Maine; one sister, Geneva Tedford of Westbrook; two step-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Neal and York Funeral Home, 12 High Street, Kezar Falls, Maine. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Cornish, Maine. Donations may be made to North Bay Road Association, c/o Christiansen, 91 Nash Road, Windham, ME 04062.

Joan (Moore) Buck, 67, died Oct. 22, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Cornish, Maine. She was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Peterborough, and lived in the Sunapee and Claremont area of New Hampshire for several years, later moving to West Ossipee. Joan had moved to Cornish within the past year. Joan worked as a stitcher at Wicker's Sportswear in Wolfeboro, and was known for her love of bingo.
She is survived by her daughters, Debra Boyd of Center Ossipee, and Beryl Cleveland of Ayer, Mass.; her grandchildren, Jason Haywood, Joshua St. Denis, Justin St. Denis, Matthew Boyd, Jillian Boyd and Ian Boyd. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, and was predeceased by a daughter, Marie Lefebvre.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be Saturday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee.

David Harriman, 66, died unexpectedly October 21, 2001, at his home in Gorham, Maine.
Born October 29, 1934, in North Waterford, Maine, he was the son of Wilbert F. and Hallie McKeen Harriman. Mr. Harriman lived most of his life in the state of his birth.
A graduate of Fryeburg Academy and Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, he was a senior customer engineer for the IBM Corporation for 33 years. He also served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956, during the Korean conflict.
In 1957, he married Elaine H. Anderson from Fryeburg, Maine, and the couple was married for 44 years.
Dave was a wonderful friend and neighbor to all who knew him. One of his most favorite pastimes was traveling with his wife, especially to the Boothbay Harbor region, where they enjoyed many vacations together. Surviving besides his wife of Gorham are two daughters, Cynthia H. Ingram of Norway, Maine, and Cathryn H. Harriman, of Scarborough, Maine; one sister, Hope H. Birkbeck of Conway; one grandson, Kyle Ingram; and one granddaughter, Cameron Ingram, both of Norway.
There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 34 River Road, Windham, Maine. Rev. Harold Shepard will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made in his name to: The Gorham Rescue, 270 Main Street, Gorham, Maine 04038.

Charles Whitney Record of Tamworth passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in North Conway at the age of 87. Charles was born on Aug. 20, 1914 in Smithfield, N.Y., the son of the late Alden Rolland Record and Amy (Campbell) Record.
Charles was a longtime resident of Fenner, N.Y., where he was a self-employed farmer raising dairy cattle, beef stock, and turkeys with his wife, Beryl (Wilson) Record. He was an active member in town government for many years. He was a founding member and chairman of the zoning board of appeals. He served as a member of the board of directors of the Oneida-Madison Electric Cooperative for 28 years, and was vice president of the board of directors for the New York State Rural Electric Cooperative. He was also actively involved in the operation and maintenance of the Peterboro Cemetery. Charlie was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed hunting on his farm and fishing at his camp in Rossie, N.Y.
Charlie married Jean Aspinall in 1990 and moved with Jean to Tamworth to care for her after she suffered a stroke in 1994.
Charles was predeceased by his first wife, Beryl, and by a stepson, Gregory Aspinall. He is survived by his wife, Jean (Aspinall) record, and by a stepson, Scott Aspinall.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at a later date in New York.

Irving "Ike" Meredith of Sandwich passed away on Oct. 20, 2001, at his home in Sandwich at the age of 80. He was born May 5, 1921, in Boston, Mass., the son of the late Irving and Lois (Woodley) Meredith. He was a graduate of Kimball Union Academy in Meridian, and later attended Boston University and Tufts University, both in Boston.
"Ike" lived in Milton, Mass., and later moved to Littleton, Mass., where he began an insurance career with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as an insurance broker. He later worked for the Fred C. Church Insurance Company in Littleton for many years. Later in his career, he moved to Hillsboro, N.H., and eventually retired to his home in Sandwich more than 20 years ago.
During WWII, "Ike" served his country in the U.S. Army as a sergeant major in the 10th Mountain Division, 87th Infantry. Prior to his military duty in WWII, he worked as a hut master for the Appalachian Mountain Club. Mr. Meredith also was a member of the coast guard auxiliary. He was a member and past president of the Sandwich Historical Society, a member of the Sandwich Fair Committee, the St. Andrew's Society of N.H. and Vt., and he volunteered with the N.H. Marine Patrol. He also served as past master of the Pomona Grange of Mass., and was a member of the Masonic Order in Lowell, Mass.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Puffer) Meredith, and later his second wife, Nancy (Lear) Meredith. He is survived by his children, Irving P. Meredith of Moultonboro, Willis C. Meredith of Methuen, Mass., and Lois J. Meredith of Concord; and five grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home in Wolfeboro. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret's Anglican Church in Conway. Burial services will be Friday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. in the Milton Cemetery in Milton, Mass.
Donations in his memory may be made to the New England Ski Museum in Franconia, or St. Margaret's Church in Conway.

Rita A. Garland, 72, of North Conway, died Oct. 18, 2001, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. Born in North Conway, the daughter of Arthur and Irene (Toussaint) Frechette, she was a lifelong resident of Conway.
Mrs. Garland had been a telephone operator with New England Telephone Company in the early 1950's.
She married Kenneth Garland on May 15, 1948, and he predeceased her in 1987.
The family includes: four sons, Ronald K. Garland of Griswold, Conn., Edward A. Garland of Sanford, Maine, Wayne R. Garland of East Rochester, and Robert T. Garland of North Waterboro, Maine; nine grandchildren; tow great-grandchildren; her mother, Irene Frechette of North Conway; five brothers, Edgar Frechette and Alfred "Popeye" Frechette, both of Conway, Roger Frechette and Maurice Frechette, both of North Conway, and Leon Frechette of Pembroke; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Burial will be in the Conway Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

LOVELL, Maine - Albert Henry Heath Sr., 78, of West Lovell Road in Lovell, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at his home after a long illness.
He was born in Bethel, Maine, the son of Albert and Bernice Grover Heath, and was educated in Bethel and Waterford schools. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the Korean War as well. He worked for the Earl Brown Lumber Mill in North Waterford, then he moved to Lovell and worked many years for the C.N. Brown Mill, also for Lovell Lumber and several years for the Eastman Hill Stock Farm. He was a life member of the Fryeburg-Lovell VFW Post 6783, a member of the Lovell Fire Department and a former member of the Odd Fellows.
Before his illness, he was an avid hunter and gardener. He liked puzzles, reading and most of all feeding his birds.
He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Trimback Heath, and a grandson, Mark Allen. He is survived by a daughter, Penny, and her husband, Russell Allen, of Lovell; a son, Albert Heath Jr., and his wife, Maureen, of North Waterford; four grandchildren, Kevin Allen, Jamie Heath, Amanda Heath and Jeremy Heath; one great-granddaughter, Tanner; and two sisters, Barbara Whitman, of West Paris, and Robert Bennett, of Lovell.
A memorial graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. at No. 4 Cemetery in Lovell.
Donations in memory of Albert may be made to Stoneham Rescue, Stoneham, Maine, 04231. Arrangements are with Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.

Ann M. Pinto, 61, of Warwick, R.I., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at the home of her son in Warwick.
She was the wife of the late Ralph G. Pinto. She was born in Providence, R.I., to James R. and Dorothy M. Olivier, and had lived most of her life in Warwick. She was a certified medical technician for 21 years and had worked at West Bay Manor in Rhode Island for many years.
She leaves two sons, William L. Walsh Jr. of Warwick and Michael C. Walsh of East Greenwich, R.I.; a sister, Joyce Olivier Capozzoli of North Conway; and three grandchildren.
A Requiem Eucharist was held in St. Luke Episcopal Church in East Greenwich. Burial was private.

Louise L. Waltz, 61, of North Conway died Oct. 14, 2001 at her home after a lengthy illness. Born in Woonsocket, R.I., the daughter of Roger and Juliette (Roy) Laferriere, she came to North Conway in 1967.
Mrs. Waltz graduated from the University of New Hampshire cum laude, with a degree in Foods and Nutrition in 1962. She did her dietetic internship at St. Mary's Hospital Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. and was a clinical dietician at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, R.I. for several years.
In North Conway she worked as a homemaker and assisted with administration of her husband's medical practice for over 30 years.
Louise was a member of the N.H. Heart Association Board of Directors and a member of the American and N.H. Dietetic Association. She is a charter member of Reading is Fundamental at John Fuller School in North Conway and had been chairman of the nutrition committee at Kennett High School in the 1970s. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and merit badge counselor for several years.
Mrs. Waltz was also a member of the Board of Directors and Past President of the North Conway Public Library during the construction of the children's wing. She was also a very active communicant of Our Lady of the Mountains parish, serving on various committees including Lay Eucharistic Minister for many years as well as Sacristan.
The family includes: her husband of 35 years, Miles E. Waltz MD of North Conway; two sons, Mark Waltz and his wife Carol, of Brunswick, Maine, and Miles "Ned" Waltz Jr. and his wife Karin, of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Martha J. Waltz of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Andrew Waltz and Benjamin Waltz, both of Brunswick, Maine, and Matthew Scott and Nathan Waltz, both of Boise; her father, Roger A. Laferriere of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; her aunt, Claire Roy of Manville, R.I.; a brother, Roy Laferriere and his wife Mary of Orange Park, Fla.; two sisters, Frances Clow and her husband Verne of Bradford and Denise Perry and her husband John of St. Johnsbury, Vt., and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Juliette (Roy) Laferriere in 1994, her sister, Sr. Alice Laferriere, in 1995 and a nephew, Ethan Clow, in 1994.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
