Beatrice C. "Bea" (Chaplin) Patterson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Beatrice C. "Bea" (Chaplin) Patterson, 89, died Sept. 11, 2002, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Suffield, Conn., on Oct. 21, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes (McCarl) Chaplin. She resided in Enfield, Conn., for 23½ years and in Springfield for the past 25 years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Stanley Patterson, who died in 1988; and a brother, George Chaplin.

She is survived by a son, Ronald A. Patterson of Springfield; two daughters, Carol P. Leard of Portsmouth, N.H., and Gayle P. Wegrzyn of Springfield; four grandchildren, James Wegrzyn, Lori Leard, Sue Corriveu and Lynn Castor; and three great-grandchildren, Corey Wegrzyn, Michael Corriveau and Mallory Corriveau.

PATTERSON - Beatrice C. "Bea" (Chaplin) Patterson, 89, of Springfield, Mass., died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, Mass. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Enfield, Conn. Visiting hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Life Care, 28 Appleton St., Holyoke, MA 01040.

Thomas Gosselin

ELIOT, Maine - A funeral was held for Thomas Gosselin on Monday at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery. The service was officiated by the Rev. David Avery of the First Congregational Church of Eliot. The Rev. Avery spoke of Tommy’s kindness to his family, whom he adored, and his love of his job. He also spoke of his love of the river and taking friends and family out for enjoyable times on the water. The service continued with a committal service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot, where Michael Bacher, Richard Pruett, Jason Roes, Barry Fedora, Wayne Covington and Carl Naehring served as pallbearers. Everyone was invited to the First Congregational Church Parish Hall for refreshments and a time of sharing. Arrangements were entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

William Thomas "Bill" Seymour

PORTSMOUTH - William Thomas "Bill" Seymour, 85, of 47 Thornton St., died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

The son of the late Horace P. and C. Alice (Murphy) Seymour, he was a native of North Hampton and Portsmouth. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific and the China Sea on a destroyer escort. He retired as an industrial engineer technician from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1973 after 33 years.

He was a member of the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth; a member of St. John’s Lodge No. 1 F&AM of Portsmouth; Washington Chapter #3; Davenport Council #5; DeWitt Clinton Commandery KT #2, of which he was Commander in 1960 and 1961; Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery KT in 1970; and an honorary member of the Grand Commandery KT of Vermont and N.H. Society of Freemasons; a member of Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest; Past Commanders Association; and the Forty-Fivers of N.J.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mildred L. (Durgin) Seymour; daughters Beverly L. Peterson of Conway, Ark., Caroline L. Seymour of Eliot, Maine, and Roberta L. Ladrie and her husband, Mark, of Dover; six grandchildren, Pamela Phillips of Conway, Ark., Darryl Meadows of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Tonya Ladrie and Brian Ladrie, both of Dover, and Graham Peterson and J.L. Peterson, both of Conway, Ark.; and six great-grandchildren, Michael, Steven, Joshua, Cody, Christian and McKenzie.

Anita A. White Kennedy

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Anita A. White Kennedy, 84, a resident at Family Living, Biddeford, Maine, former resident of Sanford, Maine, and a long-time resident of Kittery, Maine, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at her home following a long illness.

She was born in Sanford, March 13, 1918, a daughter of George and Martha Senior Cadotte. She was educated in Sanford schools and graduated from Sanford High School in 1937. She also attended McIntosh Secretarial College.

Mrs. Kennedy was employed as a secretary at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, and later at the former Pease Air Force in Newington, N.H., where she retired after many years of service.

She enjoyed bingo and making ceramics.

While living in Kittery, she was a longtime communicant of St. Raphael Parish.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Leonard White, in 1960, and her second husband, Thomas Kennedy, in 1990.

Mrs. Kennedy is survived by two sons, Douglas White of Swampscott, Mass., and William White of Parsonsfield, Maine; and two granddaughters.

KENNEDY - Anita A. White Kennedy, 84, a resident of Family Living, Biddeford, Maine, former resident of Sanford, Maine, and long-time resident of Kittery, died Sept. 13, 2002. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Ignatius Church, Sanford. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. There are no visiting hours. Arrangements are by the LaFrance-Lambert Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford.

Carl E. Corliss

PORTSMOUTH - Carl E. Corliss, 62, husband of Dianne L. (Miles) Corliss, of 52 Saratoga Way, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Portsmouth on Sept. 6, 1940, the son of the late Leslie H. and Phyllis B. (Tuttle) Corliss and was a graduate of Berwick High School, Berwick, Maine, with the Class of 1956.

He served in the United States Marines for four years, the United States Army for eight years, the Navy Seabees during Vietnam, and retired from the Air National Guard with a total of more than 30 years of military service.

He was a dedicated employee of Portsmouth High School for the last 25 years as equipment manager and most recently as manager of the athletic fields. He never took a sick day. He was a member of the VFW of Somersworth and was an avid baseball fan.

Besides his wife of 33 years, survivors include his son, Scott M. Corliss of Portsmouth; his daughter, Darlene G. Corliss of Ohio; his siblings, Joan Murdo of Somersworth, William H. Corliss of Auburn, Maine, Arthur Corliss of Berwick, Maine, Ruth Wolcott of South Berwick, Maine, Judith Copeland of Canton, Maine, John Corliss of Lebanon, Maine, Donna MacPherson of South Berwick, Maine, Janettte Hussey of Lewiston, Maine, Kathleen Bernard of Auburn, Maine, and Aloma Tuttle of North Berwick, Maine; father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Elizabeth Miles of Portsmouth; sister-in-law, Gail Grant of Portsmouth; brother-in-law, Dean H. Miles of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Charles Corliss and James Corliss, predeceased him.

CORLISS - Carl E. Corliss, 62, of 52 Saratoga Way, Portsmouth, died Sept. 13, 2002. A funeral service will be held at the North Congregational Church, Market Square, Portsmouth, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to The Scott Corliss Education Fund, c/o Gail Grant, 20 Raleigh Way, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Patricia E. Spencer

INDIALANTIC, Fla. - Patricia Emerson Spencer, 64, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, in Tampa after a long and courageous struggle with cancer. Born in Providence, R.I., she enjoyed her adult life living in the warm, sunny South. After a long career as a civilian employee of the Air Force, she retired from Patrick Air Force Base three years ago.

While the experimental protocol she followed at the Moffat Cancer Center wasn’t successful in treating her illness, she hoped that the knowledge gained by the researchers would help others. Tricia will long be remembered for her kind and thoughtful ways.

In addition to her husband of 10 years, Chuck, survivors include her son, Bill Clougherty and his wife Joanne of Holden, Mass.; two grandchildren, Colleen and Michael Clougherty of Holden, Mass.; sister, Nancy Emerson and niece, Rebecca Emerson-Grishman, both of Portsmouth; as well as numerous cousins in Connecticut and California and many friends throughout New England and Florida.

A memorial service was held Saturday in Indian Harbour Beach. Burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.

Elias Leitman

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Funeral services for Elias (Al) Leitman, 84, of Boca Raton, were from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, N.H., with services held at Temple Israel in Portsmouth. Rabbi David Mark officiated.

Words of remembrance were given by son-in-law, Sanford Roberts; brother, Bernard Lightman; niece and nephew, Holly and Stuart Kaitz; niece and nephew, Michael and Monica Lightman; and nephew, Bernard Dubinsky.

Burial was in Temple Israel Cemetery, Portsmouth, with committal services by Rabbi Mark. Bearers were Michael Lightman, Edward Vetstein, Adam Roberts, Marc Kontoff, Stuart Kaitz, Julius Tate and Alan Bernstein.

William T. Seymour

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for William Thomas "Bill" Seymour, 85, of 47 Thornton St., were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Saturday. The Rev. Dawn A. Shippee, pastor of North Congregational Church in Portsmouth, officiated.

In attendance were members of the church; St. John’s Lodge No. 1 F&AM of Portsmouth; Washington Chapter No. 3; Davenport Council No. 5; and DeWitt Clinton Commandery KT No. 2.

Burial was in Sagamore Cemetery, Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Shippee.

The flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to Mr. Seymour’s wife, Mildred L. (Durgin) Seymour.

Bearers were Mark Ladrie, Brian Ladrie, Robert LaValley, Loyal Weslling, Joseph Mitchel and Allan Ladrie.

Masonic services were held at the funeral home Friday evening by St. John’s Lodge No. 1 F&AM including Robert L. Sutherland Jr., WM; Verne S. Anderson Jr., SW; A. Kenneth Day, chaplain; Nelson D. Hersey, associate chaplain; Nelson K. Ward, organist; Robert M. Argel, past grand commander; Ronald E. Metcalf, past grand commander; Calvin Wilder, PM; Rodney A. Robinson, PM; Gerald F. Buehrer, PC, of DeWitt Clinton Commandery KT No. 2; and Dante J. Caminati, ILL PM, Davenport Council No. 5.

Paul C. Poulin

ROCHESTER - Paul C. Poulin, 74, husband of Phyllis (Price) Poulin, and formerly of Portsmouth, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after a brief illness.

Born in Pittsburg on Sept. 5, 1928, he was a son of the late Treffle and Madore (Foley) Poulin. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was well known throughout the Seacoast area as the operator of Colonial Taxi Service of Portsmouth from 1972 to 1986 and Colonial Taxi Service of Rochester, which he founded with his son John in 1998. During his many years of serving the public, he was known as a friend of the needy and the helpless. His tenure of taxi service in Portsmouth would find him delivering holiday meals to the less fortunate year after year and always with a large smile.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #7 in Rochester and the Emerson Hovey VFW Post #168 of Portsmouth.

Besides his wife, survivors include four children, Diane Newman and her husband, Rick, of Nottingham, Doreen Leonard and her husband, James, of Nottingham, Gail Parker and her husband, Donald LeClair, of Rochester, and John P. Poulin and his wife, Tracey, of Rochester; six grandchildren, Stacey Parker of Rochester, Tricia Newman of Nottingham, Randy Leonard of Nottingham, Ryan LeClair of Rochester, Kelsey Poulin of Rochester, and Rickie Poulin of Rochester; one great-grandchild, Drevien Bowen of Rochester; eight siblings, Bob Poulin of New Bedford, Mass., Joe Poulin of Lewiston, Maine, Rita (Poulin) Rancourt of Lisbon Falls, Maine, Bert Poulin of New Bedford, Mass., Angie (Poulin) Merrill of Litchfield, Maine, Mary Jane (Poulin) Girourd of Lewiston, Maine, Albert Poulin of Lisbon, Maine, and Normand Poulin of Milford, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

POULIN - Paul C. Poulin, 74, of Rochester, formerly of Portsmouth, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 845 Woodbury Ave., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, with VFW services at 6 p.m. by Emerson Hovey Post #168, Portsmouth, and American Legion services at 6:15 p.m. by Post #7, Rochester. Flowers will be accepted.

Roscoe J. McDonough Jr.

KITTERY, Maine - A memorial service for Roscoe J. McDonough Jr., 65, of Augusta, was held on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery. Family and friends were in attendance as the Rev. Stan Rockafellow, pastor of the Eliot Baptist Church, conducted services. A graveside committal service and burial followed at the Orchard Grove Cemetery, Kittery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.

Joseph Arthur Gosselin

ROCHESTER - Joseph Arthur Gosselin, 61, of 607 Portland St., died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at his home after a long illness.

Born July 8, 1941, in Rochester, he was a son of the late Albert A. and Catherine M. (York) Gosselin.

He had lived in Rochester for the past 12 years after moving from North Berwick, Maine. He was employed by the Northeast Cutting Die Co. as a die bender and also tended bar in Rollinsford and Dover. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time at Foxwoods.

Members of his family include his wife, Kelly R. Gosselin of Rochester; his sons, Joseph M. Gosselin of Dover, and Brian Gosselin and his fiancée, Diana, of Rochester; his stepchildren, Kristi Couch and her husband, James, of Rochester, Ryan Horne of Rochester, Julie of North Berwick, Maine, William Robinson of Somersworth, Ronald Robinson of Dover, and Joseph Robinson and his wife, Heather, of Keene; his grandchildren, Michael J. Gosselin, "a special little buddy," Ryan, Danielle, Julie, Kyle, Cody, Ryan and Christopher; his brothers, Richard Gosselin and his wife, Julie, of Rollinsford, Donald Gosselin and his wife, Elaine, of Barrington, and William Gosselin and his wife, Lee, of York, Maine; and several nieces and nephews. urd of Lewiston, Maine, Albert Poulin of Lisbon, Maine, and Normand Poulin of Milford, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

GOSSELIN - Joseph Arthur Gosselin, 61, of Rochester, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Your VNA and Hospice, Farmington Road, Rochester, NH 03867. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home, with Pastor Richard Arnold officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery following the funeral.

Thomas S. Carr

LONDONDERRY - Thomas S. Carr, 58, died Sept. 10, 2002, at his home after a brief illness.

He was born in Methuen, Mass., on Jan. 9, 1944, a son of Sherman and Gertrude (Fallon) Carr.

He was a graduate of Andover High School in the Class of 1962.

He had been employed as a production controller for Digital Corporation in Salem.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed watching sports on television, especially the Boston Bruins.

He was predeceased by his brother, Robert A. Carr, who died on Dec. 30, 2001.

He leaves his wife of 39 years, Barbara M. (Poirier) Carr of Londonderry; four daughters, Pamala (Mrs. Thomas) Bisson, and Theresa (Mrs. Douglas) Mayer, both of Londonderry, Deborah (Mrs. Rob) Haskins of Manchester, and Nichole Carr of Dracut, Mass.; his parents, Sherman and Gertrude Carr of Rye; three sisters, Mary Lou Carr of Rye, Jane Sullivan of Dunstable, Mass., and Elizabeth Haskell of Kalamazoo, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry, with burial at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Londonderry.

Memorial donations may be made to the Portsmouth/Derry/Salem Home Health and Hospice, 15R East Broadway, Derry, NH 03038; or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.

Adeline E. "Faye" Alund

KITTERY, Maine - Adeline E. "Faye" Alund, 82, died Sept. 15, 2002, at her home after a brief illness.

Born on Dec. 19, 1919, she was a daughter of Frederick H. and Adeline (Adams) Eubanks.

She attended Palm Beach College and later worked for Sears & Roebuck as a draftsman engineer. She later worked at the Poco Diablo Resort hotel in Sedona, Ariz.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, music, computers, painting and playing bingo at the Frank Jones Center in Portsmouth, N.H. She was a volunteer at the Harbor Home in York, where her late husband, Edward Alund, was a resident. She worked with social activities for the residents there. She also traveled extensively, taking many cruises, and Mexico was one of her favorite places to vacation.

She will be sadly missed by her sister Dorothy Dempsey of Berwick; her brother Walter Allen of Waxhaw, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Gladys Fowler of Cape Cod, Mass., and Coral Bishop of Rhode Island; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Harriet A. Bowles of Warren, N.H.; two brothers, Philip J. Bowles of Sterling Mass., and William C. Bowles of Hull, Mass.

There will be no services at the family’s request. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.

Marjorie E. Hanson

YORK, Maine - Marjorie E. Hanson, 88, of Ridge Road, died Sept. 14, 2002, at her residence.

She was born on April 30, 1914, in Sanford, a daughter of J. Edward and Marion (Blanchard) Porell.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard W. Hanson Sr., in 1971; her daughter, Beverly Pinkham, in 2000; a grandson, Rodney Pinkham; and her brother, Merle Porell.

Survivors include a son, Richard Hanson Jr. and his wife, Evelyn, of York; four grandchildren, Eric Hanson of Brownfield, Karl Hanson of York, Howard Pinkham of South Carolina, and Dawn Slavings of Illinois; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Ellingwood and Marilyn DeHaven, both of Sanford.

At Mrs. Hanson’s request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home.

FRENCH - Thomas E. French Jr., 87, of Kennebunkport, Maine, husband of Georgia P. French of Kennebunkport, and father of Jan French Dicey (Mrs. Doug Dicey) of Exeter, N.H., died Jan. 17, 2002. Masonic and memorial services will be held beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the First Congregational Church of Kennebunkport, 141 North St. Members of Arundel Lodge No. 76, Kennebunkport, will conduct the Masonic service, and the Rev. Bonnie Steinroeder and the retired Rev. Pat Adams will officiate at the memorial service. A reception will follow at Arundel Lodge No. 76, Temple and North streets. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either the First Congregational Church of Kennebunkport, 141 North St., Kennebunkport, ME 04046; or to Kennebunkport Public Health & Nursing Service, Kennebunkport, ME 04046; or to Arundel Lodge No. 76, P.O. Box 228, Kennebunkport, ME 04046; or to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330.
