A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was stationed in Newfoundland, and later in Pennsacola, Fla. It was there that he met the love of his life, Marietta (Stanton) Caster, whom he married on Feb. 12, 1949.

He was employed for some 50 years as a moving specialist with United Van Lines in Waltham, Mass. Specializing in accounting, he served as office manager overseeing the day-to-day clerical operations, until his retirement in 1994.

He settled in Lexington, Mass. in 1951, and together with his wife Marietta started their family. His sons recall fond memories of tossing a baseball with dad, as they practiced for Little League, while his daughter, Judy, remembers their rising early each morning so that she would master the game of tennis. His granddaughter recalls singing for her grandfather, something he often requested of her, and something that provided him with much joy. He loved nature and appreciated the outdoors immensely. He was particularly fond of the White Mountains, and scenic New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. He found great joy in fishing with his grandchildren. His ability to gather strawberries and blueberries was like no other, and afternoon walks in the woods brought numerous gallons of sweet berries home. Summers were spent at the lake house in Tilton, where he recently enjoyed jet skiing along the lake. Since his retirement, the past eight winters were spent in Florida, where he held a particular fondness for the Daytona area. His 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated in Florida

, with an extended stay in Disney World, the source of much pride for the Casters since their children organized the family celebration and were all in attendance to commemorate this significant occasion.
