Barbara M. Eldredge

BRENTWOOD - Barbara Marion (Lang) Eldredge, 81, died peacefully Sept. 20, 2002, surrounded by her family, at her son Gary’s home in Brentwood, where she lived for the past two years.

She was born in East Candia, Jan. 22, 1921, the daughter of the late Howard and Nellie (Parker) Lang. She graduated from Sanborn Seminary, Kingston, Class of 1939.

She worked with her mother in their Kingston home as a telephone operator in the 1930s. She sold Avon products for many years and brought up eight children with her loving husband Phil.

Barbara loved and cherished her family and friends. She always had a kind word for everyone and had a warm, beautiful smile and a twinkle in her eyes.

She was predeceased by her husband, Phil, who died on Jan. 7, 2000.

She leaves her four daughters, Beverly Spooner, Judy Curtis, and Bonnie Schultz, all of Exeter, and Sharon Gallant of Fryeburg, Maine; three sons, Robert Eldredge of Exeter, Gary Eldredge of Brentwood, and John Eldredge of Concord; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Robert and Lorraine Lang of Plaistow; one sister-in-law and her husband, Betty and Wendell Sargent of Newfields; her uncle and aunt, Chester and Rita Parker of Glendale, Ariz.; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Phil Jr., and a grandson, Christopher.

ELDREDGE - Barbara Marion (Lang) Eldredge, 81, of Brentwood, died on Sept. 20, 2002. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Exeter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Rockingham VNA and Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833, who gave her wonderful care.

Charles P. Lamie

HAMPTON - Charles P. Lamie Sr., 63, of 282 Towle Farm Road, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at his home after a brief illness.

He was born in Exeter on July 18, 1939, the son of the late Howard A. and Virginia B. (Stanley) Lamie. A Hampton resident for most of his life, his family moved here from Newmarket when he was 2 years of age. He was a 1958 graduate of Hampton Academy High School and served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic.

Mr. Lamie worked 12 years as a mechanic and service manager for Foss Motors in Exeter, for the past 21 years as evening supervisor of the custodial staff at Winnacunnet High School, and also worked five years for the Hampton Cinemas. He also operated a snow plowing and lawn care service.

Earlier in his life he was a special deputy with the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department, riding with their motorcycle team. He enjoyed all forms transportation, especially flying, whether it was in an Army helicopter or spending time at the Hampton Airfield, as he loved to be in the air. He also enjoyed collecting and building model planes, railroads, and cars.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hampton where in his youth he enjoyed singing in the choir. He also was a member of the New Hampshire Custodian’s Association board of directors.

Family members include his wife of 39 years, Marion E. (Purrington) Lamie of Hampton; a son, Chuck Lamie and his wife Dede of Hampton; a daughter, Martha Lemire and her husband Roland of North Hampton; four grandchildren, Erin Lemire, Shawn Lamie, Megan Lemire and Shaina Lamie; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Edwin Louis Lamie, in 1983.

LAMIE - Charles P. Lamie Sr., 63, of 282 Towles Farm Road, Hampton, died Sept. 20, 2002. Services will be held in the United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Road, Hampton, at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. If desired, donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833; or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Michael Adams

ORLAND, Maine - Funeral services for Michael Adams, 49, of Orland, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, N.H., with graveside services at Central Cemetery, in Rye, N.H. The Rev. Marta Flanagan of the Unitarian-Universalist Church (South Church) in Portsmouth officiated.

The American flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to son, Zachary Adams. Bearers were David Craig, Jamie Robichaud, Todd Adams, Brian Adams and Zachary Adams.

Claire S. Emery

ELIOT, Maine - Funeral services for Claire S. (Sawyer) Emery, 62, of 70 Goodwin Road, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, N.H., Saturday, with a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at St. James Church in Portsmouth. Father Agapit H. Jean Jr., pastor, officiated, with Deacon Eric Delisle assisting.

Altar servers were Richard Ward, Theresa Hickey and Jane Milette. Soloist was Heather Weller and Jennifer Brown was organist.

In attendance were communicants of the church and representatives from DeWolfe Realty of Portsmouth. Burial was in Newington Cemetery, Newington, N.H., with committal services by Father Jean. Readings were given by brother, Jack Sawyer and son, John P. Emery.

Bearers were David M. Emery Jr., John P. Emery, Jack Sawyer and Frank Burovac.

Lillian A. Parenteau

NORTH HAMPTON - Lillian A. Parenteau, 79, of 87 Granite Post Green, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at her home.

She was born in Manchester, Oct. 1, 1922, a daughter of the late Joseph and Emelia (Michaud) LaBerge.

Mrs. Parenteau was a graduate of West High School in Manchester with the Vlass of 1940. With her husband, she helped operate Walter J. Parenteau Inc. Plumbing & Heating in Manchester, serving as the secretary for many years. She also co-owned TLJ Hair Salon in Hampton for a period of time.

She was a communicant of St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach, a supporter of the Men’s Club at the church, member and past president of the Master Plumbers Association Auxiliary in Manchester, served as a hostess for the Richelieu French Service Club in Manchester and was a member of The Stampers, a group that designed handcrafted cards.

She resided in North Hampton the past 18 years, coming from Manchester.

She was the wife of Walter J. Parenteau for 57 years.

In addition to her husband, family members include one son, Walter J. Parenteau Jr. of Candia; five daughters, Judith Anne Parenteau of Farmington, N.Y., Diane Klein of Newburyport, Mass., Anita Willard of Tolland, Conn., Jacqueline Parenteau of Manchester, and Joceline Boucher of Bedford; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Estelle Benard of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.

PARENTEAU - Lillian A. Parenteau, 79, of 87 Granite Post Green, North Hampton, died Sept. 21, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach, at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. After cremation, interment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Manchester. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Richard L. Trefethen

BILLERICA, Mass. - Richard L. "Smokie" Trefethen, 74, of Billerica and formerly of Newton, husband of Suzanne (Drolet) Trefethen, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington.

He was born in Rye, N.H., on Oct. 12, 1927, son of the late Austin and Annie Maude (Sherwood) Trefethen and had been a resident of Newton before moving to Billerica 14 years ago.

Mr. Trefethen had been employed as a packer in the shipping department of the William Carter Co. in Newton for 26 years.

Besides his wife, survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Philip Trefethen and his wife Carol of Dover, N.H.; one sister, Phyllis Grunert of Rye, N.H.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Jeane Trefethen.

TREFETHEN - Richard L. "Smokie" Trefethen, 74, of Billerica, Mass., and formerly of Newton, Mass., died Sept. 21, 2002. Funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday at the United Church of Christ, 6 Lexington St., Burlington, Mass. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Road, Billerica, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Ruth T. Leavitt

ELIOT, Maine - Ruth T. Leavitt, 80, of Goodwin Road in Eliot, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at The Harbor Home in York after a long illness.

Born in Lawrence, Mass., on May 10, 1922, she was a daughter of Maurice and Mildred (Cole) Titcomb and attended local schools.

In addition to her husband of more than 61 years, James Lyndon Leavitt of Eliot, survivors include their four sons, Dale and his wife Julie Leavitt of Eliot, Jeffrey and Elaine Leavitt of Rye, N.H., Brian and Donna Leavitt of South Berwick, and Kenneth and Pat Leavitt of Berwick; their grandchildren, Seth Leavitt, Brandon Leavitt, Kasey Leavitt and Gabrielle Leavitt; one sister, Norma Swain; three brothers, Woodbury Titcomb of Holden, Mass., Maurice Titcomb of Florida, and William Titcomb of Reading, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Lyndon Leavitt Jr.

LEAVITT - Ruth T. Leavitt, 80, of Goodwin Road in Eliot, Maine, died Sept. 21, 2002, at the Harbor Home in York, Maine, following a long illness. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME 03904. Friends and family are invited to visit with the Leavitt family at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to York Hospital, Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Richard J. Lamontagne

HAVERHILL, Mass. - Richard J. Lamontagne, 68, of Haverhill, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family and parish friends.

He was born April 14, 1934, in Laconia, N.H., the son of the late Joseph F. and Edwidge (Goner) Lamontagne. He was a graduate of St. Patrick Junior High School, Portsmouth, N.H., in 1950, and Portsmouth High School, Class of 1953. He was a graduate of Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield, Maine, in 1954.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Navy.

He had been employed in the circulation department of the Portsmouth Herald. He was a resident of Haverhill since 1963, previously residing in Portsmouth.

He was employed as a production control scheduler and computer specialist with Honeywell Inc., Lawrence; Compugraphics Inc., Wilmington; and Parlex Inc., Methuen, until his retirement in 1994.

He had been an avid coach of local baseball and basketball teams.

He was a member of the Alliance Church, Haverhill, and a former member of the Immaculate Conception Council of the Portsmouth Knights of Columbus.

He was predeceased by his wife June M. (Goodwin) Lamontagne, who died Oct. 25, 1981.

He was the husband of Linda E. (Libby) Lamontagne of Haverhill for 18 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his three daughters, Deborah L. Schiavoni and her husband, Brian P. Schiavoni, of Fremont, N.H., Denise M. Archambault and her husband, Donald Archambault, of Epping, N.H., and Darlene A. James and her husband, Robert B. James, of East Hampstead, N.H.; his three sons, Robert C. Luna and his wife, Theresa, of Marion, Maine, James H. Luna of Lawrence, and Timothy J. Luna of Haverhill; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Robert "Bud" Hill of Fort Pierce, Fla.; one sister, Gloria Hill of Rollinsford, N.H.; his sister-in-law Shirley Hill of Dover; several nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law, Gloria Linehan of Haverhill, Muriel Condo of Chelmsford, and Virginia Paradis of Haverhill.

LAMONTAGNE - Richard J. Lamontagne of Haverhill, Mass., formerly of Portsmouth, died Sept. 20. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Alliance Church, 284 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill. Visitation hours are noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday in Alliance Church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford. Arrangements are by C. Frank Linnehan & Son Funeral Home, Haverhill.

Frank J. Krzeminski

ELIOT, Maine - Frank J. Krzeminski, 87, of Beech Road died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Alternative House in Kittery following a period of failing health.

Born in St. Louis, Mo., he was the youngest child of John and Antonia (Paczkowski) Krzeminski and attended local schools. After school, Mr. Krzeminski entered the United States Navy. Nearly all of his service was spent in the submarine branch with the exception of schools and his initial two years spent on the USS Tennessee following recruit training.

In the mid-1930s he served on the USS R-4, a submarine, before they were designated with names. During this time he advanced to radioman 3rd class. In the spring of 1939 he was part of the commissioning detail of the Sea Dragon, SS 194. Nine war patrols aboard the Dragon and he advanced through the ranks to acquire the hat of chief radioman.

For the remainder of the war he served on the USS Tench, making two more war patrols, receiving the Bronze Star on the first trip out. Early in 1948 he was assigned to Point Mugu to work on guided missile projects.

The remainder of his career of more than 21 years was spent with the guided missile program. He retired as a missileman chief.

He met and in 1944 married his loving wife of more than 58 years Mary (Hamer) Krzeminski, who accompanied him to all of his stations.

After his distinguished military service, he was employed by, Chance Vought Inc., of Dallas, Texas, working on guidance systems for the guided missile project. After that he was employed as an electronic technician at the U.S. Naval Test Center at Point Mugu in a civilian capacity, again working on the guided missile program he was so familiar with.

Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved to Eliot where they have made their home for more than 32 years. During this time he enjoyed working around his home, keeping his lawn in tip-top shape and assisting his wife with keeping a wonderful garden, the bounty of which they shared with so many friends and neighbors.

He also enjoyed raising and preparing for show his beloved golden retriever dogs. He also enjoyed his time spent fishing in the High Sierras of California and in the Ozarks of Missouri.

He was a member of the Kittery/Eliot Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fleet Reserve.

In addition to his wife, survivors include cousins, Joan Hasty and Mary Greene; and dear friends, John and Peggy Morang.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Leo, Alexander, Theodore, Henry, Roman, Vickie, Johanna, Olga and Sophie.

KRZEMINSKI - Frank J. Krzeminski, 87, of Beech Road in Eliot, Maine, died Sept. 21, 2002, at Alternative House in Kittery, Maine, after a period of failing health. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road in Kittery, with the Rev. Charles Downes of the South Eliot Advent Christian Church officiating. Family and friends are invited to call this evening (Monday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in his memory to the Eastern Paralyzed Veteran’s Association, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, NH 03086-0929; or Native American Heritage Association, 410 Sheridan Lake Road, Rapid City, S.D. 57702. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Ruth T. Leavitt

Joseph J. Corti

NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Joseph J. Corti, 18, of Turkey Street, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in North Berwick.

Born Jan. 2, 1984, in Portsmouth, N.H., he was a senior at Noble High School and attended Sanford Vocational Technical School as well.

He was a member of the William Hill Volunteer Fire Department in North Berwick and the hockey team at Noble High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcross sports. He had been a pit-crew member and mechanic for the Texaco Racing Team of North Berwick. Over the summer, he had worked for the Department of Treasury as a laborer, press operator and die-setting assistant during the printing of the 2002 Walking Liberty coin and other uncirculated silver coins.

He was a wonderful son and a good friend to many.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Robert and Karen Corti of North Berwick; his mother and stepfather, Deborah and Joseph Mackey of Newburgh, N.Y.; grandparents Robert and Nancy Corti of Portsmouth, N.H., Dorothy Genton of New Windsor, N.Y., Ethan and Elizabeth Mackey of Dover, N.H., and Carole Murray Bumford of North Berwick; great-grandfather Vincent A. Genton of Madison, Fla.; three brothers, Kittredge and Brenton Wyman of Cape Canaveral, Fla., and James R. Corti of North Berwick; two sisters, Amanda D. Malinowski of Rochester, N.H., and Taylor M. Corti of North Berwick; a nephew, Thomas; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends.

CORTI - Joseph J. Corti, 18, of North Berwick, Maine, died Sept. 21, 2002. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, Maine. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at the Bethel Christian Church, 129 Lower Main St., North Berwick, Maine, with the Rev. Robert G. Cole Sr. officiating. Friends who wish may contribute to the William Hill Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 230, North Berwick, ME 03906. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, North Berwick, Maine.

Alice G. Moreau

EXETER - Alice G. Moreau, 90, of 35 High St., died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home after a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 24, 1912, in Woodstock, a daughter of the late George and Flora (Daly) Revere.

The widow of Albert T. Moreau, who died Sept. 24, 1994, she is survived by twin sons and their wives, Thomas J. and Candy Moreau, and Richard A. and Dale Moreau, both of Exeter; two sisters, Olive Hoyt of Exeter, and Ann Pratt of Washington, Maine; one brother, George Revere of Beacon Falls, Conn.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Grace Littlefield of Kittery, Maine, and Ruth Roper of Newmarket; and one brother, Paul Revere of Braintree, Mass.

MOREAU - Alice G. Moreau, 90, of Exeter, died Sept. 22, 2002. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in the Exeter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rockingham VNA and Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
