Bernard Harold Dougherty

SOUTH ELIOT, Maine - Bernard Harold Dougherty, died in his home on Saturday, Dec. 21 at the age of 80 after a brief illness.

Dougherty, born on Feb. 9, 1922, the son of Doris M. and Henry B. Dougherty, also of South Eliot.

The World War II veteran served in the Army, Company A 729th Railway Operation BN, in the European theater of operations. After returning from the war, he achileved a lifelong goal of fling by getting his pilot’s license.

He retired from employment with the states of Maine and New Hampshire as a drawbridge operator on Memorial Bridge.

He was a member of VFW Post 1400, American Legion Post 178, the Maine Association of Retirees, the National Rifle Association, the AARP and life member of the South Berwick Rod and Gun Club. He was a warrior, a loving husband and father, a sportsman, a boat builder, a carpenter and a friend to all who knew him. He was the real deal who would give you the shirt off his own back. To know him was to love him, to love him was to cherish him.

Bern’s hobbies were gardening, deep sea fishing and sea duck hunting with his lifelong friend, Elmer, and skeet shooting.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia.

He is survived by his sister Marion and her son Bill Carmel; a son, John Dougherty and his wife Paula and their children Ryan, Shelley and Lindsey.

Words cannot describe the void left in his passing.

DOUGHERTY - Bernard Harold Dougherty, died in his South Eiot, Maine, home on Saturday, Dec. 21 at the age of 80 after a brief illness. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine.

John F. Stockwell

BOXFORD, Mass. - John F. Stockwell, 68, of Boxford, Mass., died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, in Portsmouth, N.H., after a long illness.

Born in Boston, Mass., Mr. Stockwell attended the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J. In 1957, he graduated from Yale University, where he was a member of the fencing club.

After serving in the United States Army as a lieutenant, Mr. Stockwell attended the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia. At the time of his death, Mr. Stockwell was a vice president with A.G. Edwards in Portsmouth.

Mr. Stockwell served on the alumni board at the Lawrenceville School, as a trustee of Shore Country Day School in Beverly, Mass., as a trustee of the College of Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, and was a director of the Historical Document Center of Boxford, Mass.

He is survived by his wife Deicy; two sons, Jeff of Los Angeles, Calif., and Pel of Boston; two daughters, Stori Cadigan of Hamilton, Mass., and Lilea Simis of Bar Harbor, Maine; three brothers, Ernest, Sherwood, and James; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

ST0CKWELL - John F. Stockwell, 68, of Boxford, Mass., died Dec. 19, 2002. A memorial service will be held at the Christ Church, Hamilton, Mass., on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Labve Indian School, Ashland, MT 59004-1001. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home -Buckminster Chapel.

Melvin H. Clark

NORTH HAMPTON - The funeral for Melvin H. Clark, 64, of 7 Post Road, who died Dec. 22, 2002 was held Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. The Rev. Mike Mulberry, pastor of the United Church of Christ officiated. Burial followed in the Center Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by Rev. Mulberry. Pallbearers were Herbert Flanders, James Watkins, Kevin King, Barry Moses, Lenny Coover and Matthew Coover.

Russell A. Marston

YORK - Russell A. Marston, 87, of 47 Brave Boat Harbor Rd., died unexpectedly Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at his residence.

He was born in York, Maine, on Sept. 6, 1915, the son of Orin T. and Ethel J. (Voudy) Marston and graduated valedictorian of York High School Class of 1934. During World War II he worked in the Battery Plant at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Mr. Marston had been employed by the York School Department Maintenance Department from 1947 to 1981, retiring with 34 years of service. Following retirement, he continued to work part-time at the York schools.

He was a member of the York Village Fire Department from 1933 to 1977 and had served as fire chief from 1956 to 1971 and from 1972 until 1977. Mr. Marston was made honorary fire chief for life. He had also served on the York Village Budget Committee during the 1950s and 1960s.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Maxie (Greeley) Marston, who died on Jan. 3, 1997, and by his daughter, Anita L. Marston, who died on June 23, 1995. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Lester, Gordon and Louis Marston, and by a sister, Leila MacDonald.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Raymond L. and Judith Marston of Kittery Point, Roger W. and Leona Marston of Chester, N.H., Ralph E. and Theresa Marston of Alexandria, Va. and Rodney L. and Holly Marston of Gilmanton, N.H.; one daughter, Mrs. Lee (Charlotte I.) Tewksbury of York; one sister,

Hazel Hodge of York; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MARSTON – Russell A. Marston of Brave Boat Harbor Rd., York, Maine, died Dec. 23 in York. Funeral at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, in the First Parish Congregational Church of York, York St., York. Interment in the First Parish Cemetery. Visiting hours, Friday, 6 – 8 p.m. at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the York Volunteer Firemen’s Assoc., 1 Firehouse Dr., York, 03909 or the York Volunteer Ambulance Assoc., PO Box 238, York, 03909.

Joyce Lisa White

HAMPTON - Joyce Lisa White (Levesque), age 60, of Hampton, died at her home Thursday morning, Dec. 26, 2002.

She was born in Methuen, Mass., and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1959. She was a member of the Italian Women’s Club in Lawrence. She attended St. Theresa’s Church in Rye.

She traveled extensively around the world with her husband of 40 years. She enjoyed arts and crafts and spending time at the beach. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was em

ployed by Coloumbo Yogurt and worked in human resources for seven years.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth B. White of Hampton; her mother, Elisa Pulsifer of Lawrence; a son, Jeffrey and wife Angela White of Portland Ore.; daughters, Christine White-Rogers and husband Michael of Windham, and Jennifer and husband John Pacheco of North Hampton; sisters Judy Griffin of Andover and Nancy Leveque of Lawrence; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday at Cataudella Funeral Home 126 Pleasant Valley St. Methuen, Mass. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Monica’s Church in Methuen. Memorial Donations can be made to Rockingham VNA 137 Epping Rd Exeter, NH 03833

Arthur P. "Chippy" Fortin

SEABROOK - Arthur P. "Chippy" Fortin, 60, of 30 Pine Street, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Mass.

He was born in Boston, Mass., on Jan. 15, 1942, the son of Bella (Guimond) Fortin of Hampton and the late George A. Fortin.

Mr. Fortin was a graduate of Amesbury, Mass., High School and attended Northeastern University.

A well-known real estate broker and developer, he was the owner of Fortin Realtors in Seabrook for 30 years and was the founding president of the Salem NH Multiple Listing Service.

Mr. Fortin was an active member and past president of the Seabrook Lions Club and served as chairman on many committees. He was a former director of the New Hampshire Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation, former member of the New Hampshire Juvenile Diabetes Association and at one time was chairman of Camp Carefree.

He was also a charter director of Lions Camp Pride in New Durham, a special needs and diabetes awareness camp for children, and was also instrumental in starting the Blind Bowler Program, supported by the New Hampshire Lions Clubs, which continues today.

He served as president of the Business Association of Greater Seabrook, was a former member of the Seabrook Housing Authority, was as a justice of the peace-notary public and served on former Gov. John Sununu’s Job Task Force.

Arthur and his wife hosted more than 25 children in their home through the youth exchange program and leaves four special friends from Japan, Peru and Italy. He was a world traveler whose passions included sailing, dancing, history and gardening.

In addition to his mother, family members include his wife of 29 years, Linda M. (Choquette) Fortin; two daughters, Lynne A. Miller and her husband, Glenn, and Amy E. Theodorou and her husband, James; seven grandchildren and his mother-in-law, Maggie Choquette, all of Seabrook; two sisters, Bella Hussey and Georgette Biron, both of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Fred Fortin predeceased him.

FORTIN - Arthur P. "Chippy" Fortin, 60, of 30 Pine Street, Seabrook, died Dec. 24, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton, Saturday at noon. A time of fellowship will follow the Mass at the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Post 70, 169 Walton Road, Seabrook. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests there be no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the Seabrook Lions Club, P.O. Box 1200, Seabrook, NH 03874. Assistance with the arrangements was by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Edward F. Tonderys

PORTSMOUTH - Edward F. Tonderys, 58, of 1701 White Cedar Blvd., died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Far Rockaway, Long Island, N.Y., on May 27, 1944, the son of the late Dr. John S. Tonderys, and Margaret C. (Reisert) Tonderys.

Mr. Tonderys received his associate’s degree from the College of Marine Sciences in Seattle, Wash. He served in the United States Navy and was a 3rd officer in the Merchant Marines for the Military Sealift Command.

Mr. Tonderys was a communicant of St. James Church in Portsmouth, a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 97 in Portsmouth, and was on the board of directors for the Cedars Condominium Association, and was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include a son, Edward R. Tonderys of Rye Beach; a daughter, Beth A. (Tonderys) Gilmore of Rye Beach; a granddaughter, Samantha L. Lowell of Rye Beach; brothers Jan S. Tonderys of Amesbury, Mass., Gregory P. Tonderys of Worcester, Mass., Terence R. Tonderys of West Roxbury, Mass., Mark S. Tonderys of Brockton, Mass., and Peter J. Tonderys of Raynham, Mass.; a sister, Megan C. Bearce of Brockton, Mass.; several nieces and nephews; and his companion, Kathy Masci of Portsmouth.

TONDERYS - Edward F. Tonderys, 58, of 1701 White Cedar Blvd., Portsmouth, died Dec. 24, 2002. A graveside service will be held at the Melrose Cemetery, Brockton, Mass., Saturday at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at Thorney Lea Country Club, Brockton, Mass. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, NH, Friday 4-8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Rd, Exeter, NH 03833.

Beatrice B. Gagnon

GLENCLIFF - Beatrice (Belliveau) Gagnon, 99, of Glencliff, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at the Glencliff Home.

She was born in Barton, Vt., a daughter of the late Dominic and Philomene (Boucher) Belliveau.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Gagnon and two sons, Robert Gagnon and Rene Gagnon.

Mrs. Gagnon is survived by two daughters, Doris Chase of York, Maine, and Lucille Delaurier of Andover, Mass.; grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Dover, at the convenience of the family. The Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Linwood G. Adjutant

YORK, Maine - Linwood G. Adjutant, 90, of 2 Victoria Court, formerly of School Street, Ogunquit, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at the York Harbor Health Care at Sentry Hill.

He was born in York on Feb. 18, 1912, the son of George A. and Harriet (Norton) Adjutant. He was a 1930 graduate of York High School and graduated from Coyne Electrical and Radio School of Chicago.

Mr. Adjutant was a planner and estimator in Shop 90 of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for many years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of York-Ogunquit. Mr. Adjutant was a 65-year member and past master of St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge of York, and was a member of the York Rites and Scottish Rites.

He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and enjoyed traveling the country and abroad.

He was predeceased by his wife, Thelma (Perkins) Adjutant, who died on Oct. 5, 2002; a brother, Vincent; and two sisters, Elaine Budd and Shirley Whitney.

He is survived by one brother, Clayton Adjutant of York Beach; two sisters, Mavis Wilson of Portland, and Patricia Langille of York; and several nieces and nephews.

ADJUTANT - Linwood G. Adjutant, 90, of 2 Victoria Court, York, Maine, formerly of Ogunquit, Maine, died Dec. 27, 2002. Private family services will be held, with a public graveside service next spring in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells, Maine. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.

David E. Millette

CAMPTON - David Ernest Millette, 50, owner of Millette Motors on Route 3 in Campton, died Thursday, Dec. 26 of injuries sustained in a snowmobiling accident in Campton.

David was born Dec. 23, 1952 in Amesbury, Mass., the son of the late Harrison Ernest Millette, Jr. and Arlene (Bowley) Millette of Hampton and Port Richie, Fla. He attended Exeter High School.

David was a true family man who enjoyed and loved his children. His happiest times were spent boating, camping, and enjoying time with his family and friends.

He leaves a young family of two children, Christopher, 8 and Amanda, 7, who live in Northwood with their mother, Debbie Millette; a son, Patrick, 16, who was following in his dad’s footsteps. Patrick lives in East Barnstead; an older son, Shawn, 31; three sisters, Patricia Beach of Hampton, Rinda Potts of Southbury, Conn., and Barbara Dunham of Brentwood; a brother, Harry Millette III of East Kingston; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who will lovingly remember many happy times with David.

At the time of his tragic death, he was living at 57 King Road in Campton, with his girlfriend, Darlene, and her children, Austin and Hallie.

MILLETTE - David Ernest Millette, 50, of Campton, died Dec. 26, 2002. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Route 88, Exeter. Interment will follow in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. Family and friends are invited after the interment to the family home at 4 Crest St., Hampton.

Joseph L. Roy

SOMERSWORTH - Joseph L. Roy, 34, of Cherryfield Village, died Dec. 23, 2002 at his home.

He was born in Portsmouth on Aug. 31, 1968, the son of Lucretia (Bishop) Thompson.

Joseph loved to play the guitar, write poems and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Besides his mother and stepfather, Spencer Thompson III of Dover, survivors include three brothers, Richard Roy of Louisville, Texas, David Roy of Houston, Texas and Steven Roy of Dover; one stepbrother, Shawn McKenney; his maternal grandmother, Doris Jolly of Madbury; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

ROY - Joseph L. Roy, 34, of Cherryfield Village, Somersworth, died Dec. 23, 2002. Graveside services will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Strafford Guidance Center, 130 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel.

Sandra L. Annis

HAMPTON - The funeral for Sandra L. Annis, 65, of Cusack Road, who died Dec. 23, 2002 was held Friday, Dec. 27, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory.

The Rev. Mike Mulberry, pastor of the United Church of Christ, North Hampton, and the Rev. Wesley Burwell, chaplain for Seacoast Hospice, officiated.

Words of remembrance were offered by two of her sons, Mark R. Annis and Gary R. Annis. Music was provided by the Merrimack Valley Chorus.

Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by Rev. Mulberry.

Pauline G. Parker

FALMOUTH, Maine - Pauline Gray Parker, 87, formerly of Portsmouth, N.H., died Dec. 26, 2002, at Falmouth by the Sea.

Born June 27, 1915, to Fred and Lillian Gray of Portsmouth, she graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1933 and worked for her father in his store, F. A. Gray.

She then graduated from McIntosh School of Business in Dover, N.H. and worked as a legal secretary for Jeremy Waldron, Esq. She also worked as a volunteer for the Red Cross during World War II.

In 1950 she married Henry W. Parker, Jr. They lived in Portsmouth and had three daughters.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active with the Peace Circle. She was also a member of the YWCA, the local garden club and the Bridget Graffort Club.

She traveled widely with her husband throughout the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. Pauline enjoyed reading, gardening, birdwatching, painting, crafts, spending time with her family, and summers at her lakeside cottage.

Pauline was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Joyce, in 1983, and her husband in 1988.

She is survived by two daughters, Roberta Parker Curtis of Westbrook, and Jean Karen Parker of Denver; three grandchildren, Jennifer Breezee of Bothell, Wash., Dan Swoveland of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Karen Parker Curtis of

PARKER - Pauline Gray Parker, of Falmouth, Maine, and formerly of Portsmouth, N.H., died Dec. 26, 2002. A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 129 Miller Ave., Portsmouth on Monday at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, on Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 129 Miller Ave., Portsmouth, NH 03801.
