John Wright

MANCHESTER - John Wright, 55, of Manchester, died at his home on Dec. 21, 2002.

He was born in Portsmouth on April 11, 1947, the son of the late Stuart and Frances (Sullivan) Wright. He had resided in Manchester for the past several years.

John was a cook at various restaurants in the Portsmouth area, where he lived for most of his life. He enjoyed his birds.

He is survived by his son, John Wright and daughter, Kimberly Wright, both of Dover, N.H.; one grandson; two sisters, Donna Morrison of Corpus Christi, Tex., and Robin Thibeault of Ports

mouth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pauline Gray Parker

FALMOUTH, Maine - Funeral services for Pauline Gray Parker, formerly of Portsmouth, N.H., were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, with services held at the First United Methodist Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. David A. Kerr, former pastor, and the Rev. David Thompson, interim pastor, officiated. Ida Morang was the organist.

In attendance were members of the church.

Burial will be in the Harmony Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth, in the spring.

Mary Ellen (Meg) Waldman

PORTSMOUTH - Mary Ellen (Meg) Waldman, 53, of 413 Colonial Drive, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at her home following a long illness.

She was born in Weymouth, Mass., Nov. 1, 1949, the daughter of Nelson C. and Helen C. (Quann) Bridges.

She had lived in the area with her husband, Emil E.J. Waldman Jr., for the past 22 years. She worked as a self-employed home cleaner for many years. She was a member of St. James Church in Portsmouth.

In addition to her husband, Emil E.J. Waldman, she is survived by three sisters, Marilyn Thomson and Nancy Rusko both of Rockland, Mass., and Beverly Bjorkman of Weymouth, Mass.; her mother and father-in-law Emil and Wilhelmina Waldman of Williamsport, Pa.; three sisters-in-law, Mikki Cole of Milan, Pa., Ann Louise Waldman of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mary Lynn Waldman of Millersville, Md.; two brothers-in-law, William Waldman of Mansfield, Pa., and Paul Waldman of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Waldman was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Buddy Bridges.

WALDMAN - Mary Ellen (Meg) Waldman, 53, of 413 Colonial Drive, Portsmouth, died Dec. 31, 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday, at St. James Church, Lafayette Road, Portsmouth. Visiting hours will be at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery in Rockland, Mass., at the convenience of the family.

Donald J. LeClair Jr.

BARRINGTON - Donald J. LeClair Jr., 43, husband of Gail Parker, of 457 Longshore Drive, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Peru, Ind., on Oct. 10, 1959, the son of Colleen (Fawcett) Garza of Maryland and the late Donald J. LeClair Sr.

He attended Portsmouth schools and served in the Army National Guard for more than eight years in both New Hampshire and Alaska.

At the time of his death he was employed by Erie Scientific in Portsmouth. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved

his three dogs, Smokey, Bear and Venus.

Beside his wife and mother, survivors include his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fawcett of Essex, England; stepdaughter Stacey Parker of Barrington; son Ryan LeClair of Barrington; brother Richard LeClair of Barrington; sisters Donna LeClair of Portsmouth, Paula Rossi of San Diego, Calif., and Michelle LeClair of Montgomery, Ala.; a grandson, Drevien Bowen of Barrington; nieces Amber LeClair of Portsmouth, Samantha Rossi of San Diego, Calif., and Olivia Rossi of San Diego, Calif.; and a nephew, Zachary Rossi of San Diego, Calif.

LeCLAIR - Donald J. LeClair Jr., 43, of 457 Longshore Drive, Barrington, died Dec. 30, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Flowers will be accepted. There will be no visiting hours.

ELLINGWOOD - Kenneth S. Ellingwood, 85, of 23 Hampton Falls Road, Exeter, formerly of North Hampton, died Dec. 30, 2002. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. Flowers are acceptable or, if desired, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

Angela LaVopa Huston

DURHAM - Angela LaVopa Huston, of 11 Ross Road, died Dec. 27, 2002, in Los Gatos, Calif.

She was born on April 3, 1954.

She is survived by her children, Laura and Eric Huston.

HUSTON - Angela LaVopa Huston, of Durham, died Dec. 27, 2002. Visiting hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, Dover. A Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Dover. A memorial fund has been set up for her minor children at Bayview Bank, 783 Rio del Mar Blvd., Aptos, CA 95003.

Lee G. Sargent

EXETER - Lee G. Sargent, 83, of 4 Alumni Drive, died Wednesday, Jan 1, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare Inc.

She was born in Boston, Mass., on Sept. 27, 1919, daughter of the late Michael and Grace (Spinpole) D’Alu.

Mrs. Sargent lived in Pittsburgh, Pa., for many years and moved to Exeter in 1994. She worked for the Kaufmann’s Department

Store in Pittsburgh, Pa., for over 20 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen L. Sargent of Exeter; one sister, Anna Merra of Kingston, Mass.; a brother-in-law, William Ditocco Sr., of North Weymouth, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

SARGENT - Lee G. Sargent, 83, of 4 Alumni Drive, Exeter, N.H., died Jan. 1, 2003. Services will be held at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, N.H., at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests that there be no visiting hours. If desired, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Memorial and Honor Program, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

Otis F. Cushman

HAMPTON - Otis F. Cushman, 91, of 35 Towle Avenue, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Exeter Hospital.

He was born in Lawrence, Mass., on Jan. 9, 1911, the son of the late Arthur B. and Susan (French) Cushman.

Moving to Stratham as a child, Mr. Cushman attended Exeter High School, graduating class valedictorian in 1928. He later attended the University of New Hampshire, receiving a master’s in mechanical and electrical engineering, graduating in 1932 also as class valedictorian. Mr. Cushman had resided in Hampton since 1946.

Mr. Cushman was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander. As part of his training, he taught mine warfare in Norfolk, Va.

He served as dean of Engineering at Northeastern University in Boston for over 40 years. Mr. Cushman was a 50-year member of the Hampton’s American Legion Post No. 35 and was a 76-year member of Oceanside Grange No. 260 of Hampton. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Lundquist) Cushman for 58 years.

In addition to his wife, family members include four children, Robert A. Cushman of Stratham, Jane C. Schaub of Palm Harbor, Fla., James O. Cushman of Stratham and David B. Cushman of Kensington; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

CUSHMAN - Otis F. Cushman, 91, of 35 Towle Avenue, Hampton, died Jan. 1, 2003. Services will be held at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, on Monday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. If desired, donations may be made to the NH S.P.C.A., P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.

David E. Millette

HAMPTON - The funeral for David E. Millette, 50, of 57 King Road, Campton, who died Dec. 26, 2002, was held Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. Services were conducted in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, Exeter.

Conducting and presiding was Bishop Howard Kunz. The organist was Betsy Hersam and the cantor and soloist was Elizabeth Deane. Kenneth Potts offered the opening prayer. The Potts family offered a musical selection which included Rinda, Kenneth, Katie, Matthew, James, Lauren and Elizabeth, who accompanied on violin. The eulogy was offered by Patricia Beach and words of remembrance were offered by family and friends. Sam Ketchum offered the closing prayer.

Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery with the dedication of the grave by Bishop Kunz. Pallbearers were, Kenneth Dunham, Patrick Millette, Sam Ketchum, Kenneth Potts, Austin Jennings and Michael Millette.

FIUMARA - Dominic Oratzio Fiumara, 85, of 22 Tuck Road, passed away peacefully New Year’s Day at the Seacoast Health Center in Hampton. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, 24 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton, in Saturday’s publication.

CLAGUE - The Rev. Dr. James G. Clague, 91, of 7 Riverwoods Dr., Exeter, died Jan. 2, 2003. A memorial service will be held at the Christ Church, Lafayette Rd., Portsmouth, Monday at 11:00 a.m. Friends invited. A memorial visitation will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, Sunday 3-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York Hospital, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909.

Marjorie (Brooks) Payn

NORTH HAMPTON - Marjorie (Brooks) Payn, 87, of North Hampton, died Dec. 23, 2002.

A Newington native, she was born March 31, 1915 in Dover.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert Payn and daughter Anna Connors, both of North Hampton.

She was proud of her many local jobs that included farming, trapping, taxidermy, driving a school bus, and assembly work at cannery, shoe, button, toy, and high-tech factories.

She was a dedicated grandmother to her two grandsons, Michael Connors of North Hampton, and Marc Connors of Rye, and her four great grandchildren. At her request, her body was donated to medical research and no services were held.

Mrs. Frances M. (MacKenzie) Brymer

PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Frances M. (MacKenzie) Brymer, 89, widow of Charles W. Brymer of 425 Union St., died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at the Edgewood Centre.

She was born in Canso, Nova Scotia, Canada on April 29, 1913, the daughter of the late Howard G. and Clara (Cole) MacKenzie. Mrs. Brymer resided in Boylston, Nova Scotia, until 1959, when she moved to Portsmouth.

Survivors include a son, C. Elton "Al" Brymer of Portsmouth; a daughter, Mrs. Muriel F. Scott and her husband, Charles, of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Philip MacKenzie and his wife, Cam, of Nanoose, B.C., Canada.

She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.

Dominic Oratizio Fiumara

HAMPTON - Dominic Oratizio Fiumara, 85, of 22 Tuck Road, the Seacoast Center in Hampton, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, Jan. 1, 2003, after a period of declining health.

He was born in Messina, Italy, on April 5, 1917, the son of Santi and Giovanna Fiumara. Educated in Italy, he joined the Italian Army as a young man, where he served as a medic nurse, and later served as local hospital administrator in Messina. He had a special appreciation for the wartime songs, a particular favorite "Lilly Marlene." He met and later married Margaret (DeMaggio) July 30, 1950, in Italy. Shortly after his marriage he moved to the United States and began his career as a barber. He was the owner and operator of the Franklin Park Barber Shop in Roslindale, Mass., his business for some 43 years.

He was a very proud, hard-working man, who was an exceptional provider for his family. He took very serious his daughter’s education, and made certain she had all the opportunities possible as she grew up. A stern, yet conscientious father, he especially enjoyed stage productions of the day, and together with his wife and daughter took in numerous shows over the years. Truly a loving and gentle man, who was generous and caring, he never forgot his Italian roots. He was faithful to his family abroad, and constantly helped his niece and nephews back in Italy. Mr. Fiumara volunteered regularly throughout the years at various nursing homes donating his barbering services. He was an avid reader, who looked forward to his monthly National Geographic magazine, a periodical he surely enjoyed.

The widower of Margaret Fiumara, who passed away in 1997, he is survived by his daughter, Cettarose G. "Tina" (Mrs. F. Michael) Carson of Attleboro, Mass.; and his granddaughters, Emily R. Carson of Attleboro, Mass., and Juliete J. (Mrs. Matthew) Gaboury of Hampton; six great-grandchildren, and he anxiously awaited the birth of his seventh grandchild in March. Mr. Fiumara was predeceased by his four brothers and sisters.
