Howard Currier Page Jr.

SEABROOK - Howard Currier Page Jr., 75, of Seabrook, former longtime resident of Hampton, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in born in Keene on Jan. 22, 1927, the son of the late Hon. Howard Currier Page Sr. and Maud (Glazier) Page.

Mr. Page attended the Emerson Boys School in Exeter, the Sanborn Seminary in Kingston, and Hampton Academy in Hampton.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 3705 Army Air Force Base Unit.

During his lifetime Mr. Page was the founder and president of the Howard Page Aluminum and Vinyl Products Co. of 2 Dover Ave. Hampton Beach, which later expanded to 200 Drakeside Rd. in Hampton.

Mr. Page was active in his community, as a bail commissioner for the Hampton District Court, served as a call firefighter for the Hampton Fire Department, was a member of the Hampton Planning Board, Municipal Budget Committee and the Marsh Reclamation Commission.

He was the chairman of the Winnacunnet High School Board, was a 50-year member of the Hampton’s American Legion Post #35, was president of the Hampton Rod and Gun Club, member of the Abenaqui Country Club in Rye, President of the Profile Senior Golf Association and was actively involved in Hampton Boy Scout Troop 177 for many years as Scoutmaster and other capacities.

Mr. Page was the former owner of Page’s Restaurant which was famous for its Shore Dinners, which later became the Seven Seas Restaurant located at Hampton Beach.

Mr. Page was also a member of Saint James Masonic Lodge #102 F&AM Member of the Valley of Portsmouth/Dover Scottish Rite, member of the Valley of Nashua Scottish Rite, Bektash Temple Shrine, East Gate Masonic Club of Seabrook, Charter Member of Tide Mill Chapter #67 of the Order of Eastern Star and member of the First Baptist Church of Hampton.

During his life, Mr. Page was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as camping with his scout troop.

He is survived by his wife, Lois (Allen) Page, and four sons, Howard C. Page III and his wife, Jo-Anne, of Seabrook, Carl A. Page of Newburyport, Mass., Jason C. Page, and his wife, Noreen, of Seabrook, Nathan G. Page and his wife, Alicen, of Hampton; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

PAGE - Howard C. Page Jr., 75, of Seabrook formerly of Hampton, died Jan. 9, 2003. Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Remick-Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. There will be a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with interment at the family plot in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Hampton Boy Scout Troop 177 c/o Douglas Aykroyd, 19 Forest Drive, Hampton, NH 03842 or to Saint James Masonic Lodge, c/o Andrew Hirst, 5 Wayside Drive Exeter, NH 03833-4821.

Mr. Kenneth W. "Rebel" Price

GREENLAND - Mr. Kenneth W. "Rebel" Price, 78, husband of Kathleen (McKay) Price, of 7 Hillside Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Bristol, Tennessee, on March 28, 1924, the son of Rome and Annabelle (Shields) Price.

Mr. Price served in the United States Navy during World War II and also served in the United States Coast Guard for six years.

In the 1960s he was a police officer for the town of Greenland and prior to his retirement in 1987 he was employed for the N.H. Liquor Commission working as an assistant manager for the N.H. Liquor Stores in Portsmouth for 30 years.

He was a member of the Frank E. Booma Post No. 6 American Legion of Portsmouth and the State Employees Association.

Besides his wife of 16 years, survivors include two stepchildren, Mary Benzing and Robert Barnes Jr., both of Portsmouth; a son, Kenneth Price, Jr. of West Forks, Maine; three grandchildren, Douglas Moore of Lancaster, Mass., Mathew Moore of Portsmouth, and Dale Moore of Northwood; and a brother-in-law, Thomas A. McKay of North Andover, Mass.

PRICE - Mr. Kenneth W. "Rebel" Price, 78, of 7 Hillside Drive, Greenland, died Jan. 9, 2003. A funeral service will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, Monday at 11 a.m. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m., with American Legion services by Frank E. Booma Post No. 6 at 1:45 p.m. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 476 Ocean Road, Portsmouth, NH 03801 or Portsmouth Home Health & Hospice Services, 95 Albany St., Unit 11, Portsmouth, NH 03801-4946.

David Allen Bedell

YORK, Maine - David Allen Bedell, 58, of Scotland Bridge Road, husband of Beverly A. (Rowland) Bedell, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at York Hospital.

He was born Jan. 3, 1945 in Newington, N.H., son of Foster and Violet (Hoyt) Bedell.

Mr. Bedell served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a woods craftsman and shipwright at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 24 years, retiring six years ago.

He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many enjoyable hours camping, fishing fresh, fresh and saltwater boating. He and his family especially enjoyed their campsite at the Lakeside Pines Campground in Bridgton, Maine. He also enjoyed baby-sitting for his three grandchildren.

Mr. Bedell was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2788 in York.

He was predeceased by his father and two brothers, Foster Daniel Bedell and Roland Bedell.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Beverly Ann, of York; his mother, Violet Elcser of Gardiner; a son, David S. Bedell, of Newburyport, Mass.; a daughter, Lisa M. Bedell-Cheever of North Berwick; two brothers, John W. Bedell of Rochester, N.H. and Ronald Bedell of Gardiner; three grandchildren, Alec and Ryan Turpin, and Matthew Cheever, all of North Berwick; many stepbrothers, stepsisters, half brothers and half sisters.

BEDELL - David A. Bedell, 58, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003. Visiting hours are Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine, with services by the Elks Lodge at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Maine Children Cancer Program, c/o the York Elks, P.O. Box 711, York, ME 03909.

Donald J. LeClair Jr.

BARRINGTON - Memorial services for Donald J. LeClair Jr., 43, of 457 Longshore Drive, were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, on Friday.

Rev. Donald Gum, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, officiated.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, in Portsmouth, in the spring.

Katherine Edith Titus

PITTSFIELD, Mass. - Katherine Edith Titus 100, formerly of Pittsfield, died Friday Jan. 10, 2003, at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Sept. 28, 1902, she was the daughter of Frank and Katherine (Danahy) O’Brien.

She attended St. Patrick School and graduated from Portsmouth High School with the class of 1918. Following graduation she attended and graduated from Portsmouth Business School. She married Phillip Titus in 1943, he passed away in 1971. She was a member of St. Theresa Parish in Pittsfield and was active in the Soldality.

She enjoyed gardening , cooking, and collecting antiques.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers, Crispin, Frank, John, Paul, and William O’Brien, and two sisters, Anna O’Brien and Helen (O’Brien) Soule.

TITUS- Katherine Edith Titus 100, of Pittsfield, Mass., formerly of Portsmouth, died Jan. 10, 2003. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth, N.H. on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Friends invited. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, 559 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605.

John Edward Barron

PORTSMOUTH – John (Jack) Edward Barron, 69, of Greenland, a lifelong resident of the Seacoast, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Portsmouth on April 5, 1933, the son of the late John Raymond Barron and Evelyn (Hicks) Barron.

Mr. Barron graduated from Portsmouth High School, class of 1951, and Maine Central Institute, class of 1952. He was a star athlete on varsity teams at both schools, earning the honor of playing on New England Championship basketball teams during three consecutive years to sold-out crowds at the Boston Garden. He graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y., class of 1957. While at Kings Point, Jack was an outstanding athlete in three major sports - football, basketball and baseball - receiving a total of 12 varsity letters. Mr. Barron also received a bachelor of science from the University of New Hampshire in 1963.

As an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine, Mr. Barron sailed throughout the world with American Export Isbrandtsen, Moore-McCormack and the United States lines. From 1961-1965 he taught at Coe-Brown Academy in Northwood and led the Academy to the Class S championship in 1963. Mr. Barron taught U.S. history and civics for more than 30 years at Dover High School (1965-1996), where he also held the positions of boys junior varsity basketball coach (1965-1976), and boys varsity basketball coach (1976-1986), leading the team to the Class L state championship in 1977. Mr. Barron served as the assistant football coach from 1965-1971, helping to coach the team to the state championship in 1968. He also served as a track coach from 1965-1967.

During his retirement, Mr. Barron resided in Greenland. He was an avid sports fan, reader, chef and fly fisherman, and enjoyed gathering oysters in Great Bay.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Constance Sweetser Warren of Portsmouth; and his memory will be held in the hearts of his daughters, Katherine B. Bell of Greenland and Marsha B. Robie of Portsmouth; and his son, John R. Barron of Greenland; his two loving granddaughters, Avary and Daisy Bell, and his baby grandson, John Anthony Barron; his cousins, Thomas Barron of Rye, Richard (Dicky) Barron of Newmarket, MaryJo Strickland of Georgia, Thomas Barron, Jr. and Toni Barron of Indiana and the Mackey Family of Dover.

BARRON - John (Jack) Edward Barron, 69, of Greenland, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. In accordance with Jack’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. There will be a memorial/celebration-of-life service held at the Portsmouth Elks Lodge, 500 Jones Ave, Portsmouth on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Granite State Independent Living, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting disabled N.H. residents, P.O. Box 7268, Concord, NH 03302-7268.

Pamela Grogan

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - A funeral service for Pamela Grogan of South Berwick, who died on Jan. 5, 2003, at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, was held on Jan. 10, 2003, at the First Congregational Church of Eliot, with the Rev. Dr. David Avery officiating.

In attendance were family, friends, former students, former athletes, members of the Kittery, Eliot and South Berwick Police Departments, Kittery Fire Department and former co-workers. Rev. Avery welcomed everyone to the church and began the service with a responsive reading titled "Gathering Together," a prayer of invocation, and unison readings were offered, as well as hymns played by the church organist Emily Haggerty.

A Native American prayer was offered and a prayer of thanksgiving for Mrs. Grogan’s life was given by Rev. Avery. All were invited for a time of refreshment and sharing at the church parish hall. Burial will take place in Brooks Memorial Park in the spring.

Arrangements were entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

McMASTER - Samuel A. McMaster Sr. 81, of 86 Farm Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St Catherine of Siena Church Friday at 11 a.m. Visiting hours at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 4-8 p.m.

Jose Arturo Osorio

KITTERY, Maine - Jose Arturo Osorio, 76, of Howard Street, died Jan. 11, 2003, at York Hospital following a period of failing health.

Born on Sept. 18, 1926, in Junin, Peru, he was a son of Elevterio Osorio and Elvira Blanco. He attended schools in Peru, graduating from the university with a degree in petroleum engineering. Early in life he worked in the oil fields of Lima, Peru, as a petroleum engineer; he later became a professor at the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniera-Peru, teaching petroleum engineering. He was also employed at the Universidad de Lima.

He came to this country to be with his daughter and son-in-law and his grandson, whom he enjoyed immensely. He was active in his community, volunteering at the William Fogg Library in Eliot and the Frisbee School in Kittery. Most recently he enjoyed taking classes at Traip Academy; he never stopped learning, always wanting to advance his knowledge. He enjoyed flower gardening, working in the yard and studying everything he could, from computers to engineering.

He will be greatly missed by those he touched, including his daughter, Susana Hebert and her husband, Claude, of Kittery; and his grandson, Antonio Hebert. He is also survived by two sons, Cesar Osorio and Mario Osorio, both living in Peru.

OSORIO - Jose Arturo Osorio, 76, of Howard Street in Kittery, Maine, died Jan. 11, 2003, at York Hospital following a period of failing health. Funeral services will be private; burial will take place in Peru later this month. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road Kittery, Maine.

Arnold B. "Bud" Palmer

ACTON, Maine - Arnold B. "Bud" Palmer, 82, of Acton, Maine, and Marco Island, Fla., formerly of Hampton, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 at the Blueberry Hill Health Care in Beverly, Mass.

He was a direct descendant of one of Hampton’s founding families born in Lynn, Mass., on Feb. 24, 1920, a son of the late Roscoe B. and Minnie E. (Arnold) Palmer.

Mr. Palmer was a graduate of Hampton Academy with the Class of 1938. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot and flight instructor in Pensacola, Fla., during WW II and also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill while in the Navy.

In 1954, Mr. Palmer and Leon Sicard founded Palmer & Sicard Inc., a well-known plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning company, which he operated until his retirement in 1976 and which their sons continue to operate today.

After his retirement in 1976 he summered in Acton and wintered in Marco Island. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating.

He was a member of the Hampton’s American Legion Post #35, The Elks Club, Hampton Historical Society and was a former member of the Hampton River Boat Club and the Hampton Lions Club.

He was the husband of Alice E. (Jones) Palmer for 57 years.

In addition to his wife, family members include, one son, Jeffrey B. Palmer and his wife Mary Ellen of Hampton; two daughters, Janice E. Adams and her husband Jon of North Hampton, Judith P. Watkevich and her husband Stanley of Naples, Fla.; seven granddaughters, three great-grandchildren; one brother, William R. Palmer and his wife Shirley of North Hampton; one sister, Eleanor Palmer Young of Hampton; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

PALMER - Arnold B. "Bud" Palmer, 82, of Acton, Maine, and Marco Island, Fla., formerly of Hampton, died Jan. 12, 2003. Services will be held at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the funeral home, Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. If desired, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Laura Dixon Remick

ELIOT, Maine - Laura Dixon Remick, 87, of Pleasant Street, died on Jan. 10, 2003, at York Hospital after a period of failing health.

Born in Eliot on Sept. 24, 1915, in her lifelong home on Pleasant Street, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sidney Remick. She attended local schools, graduating from Eliot High School with the Class of 1932.

She was employed for a number of years at the Sherwood Curtain Store in Portsmouth, until its closing in 1961. She was a member of the Sarah Orne Jewett Chapter O.E.S. of South Berwick and the Eliot High School Alumni Association. She was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed keeping her yard; she also had a great love for cats. She enjoyed many types of handiwork, including knitting and crocheting and tatting, among many. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sister, Alberta S. Remick of Eliot; her brother and his wife, Charles and Lena Remick of Eliot; four nieces, Cheryl Goodwin, Jeralyn Hall, Laureen Remick and Barbara Newhouse; a nephew, Ralph Remick; and several cousins.

REMICK - Laura Dixon Remick, 87, of Pleasant Street in Eliot, Maine, died Jan. 10, 2003, at York Hospital following a period of failing health. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine. Friends may visit with the Remick family from 6 to 8 on Wednesday evening, Jan. 15, at the Pelkey Funeral Home. Family flowers only; if desired, donations may be made in her memory to the First Congregational Church of Eliot, 155 State Road, Eliot, ME 03903; or to a charity of one’s choice.
