Lawrence G. Leaver

DOVER - Lawrence G. Leaver, 86, of 331 Washington Street and formerly of 347 Main Street Somersworth, died Sunday September 26, 2004 at Riverside Rest Home, Dover.

Lawrence was born in Boston, MA on March 13, 1918 and was the son of George and Bertha (Swensen) Leaver. He was raised in MA, graduating from Arlington High School. He went on to further his education at New Hampton Prep School.

A veteran of WW II, Lawrence served with the US Army Air Corps with the rank of Staff Sgt. and was stationed in Iceland.

Mr. Leaver along with his wife moved to Somersworth in 1944. He was employed as a setup man with General Electric with over 34 years of service. 15 years ago, he and his wife moved to Florida.

Lawrence was a member of the American Legion, Post 69 of Somersworth, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Florida. He was also a former member of the Dover Elks and the Knights of Columbus. He also served as President for 2 years with the General Electric Employees Association.

He was an avid golfer and a dedicated sports fan of all sports. He was also a bartender where he worked for the St. Jeans Hall. He also bartended for General Electric functions and at the American Legion.

Family members include his wife of 62 years, Marie (Legere) Leaver of Dover. Two sons Richard Leaver and his wife Maureen both of Somersworth and Robert Leaver of Pepperill, MA. Other family members include 3 grandchildren, James Leaver and his dearest friend Julie Conquest both of Portsmouth, Jason Leaver and his fiancée Lauren Mickee both of Portsmouth and Adam Leaver of Groton, MA. and several cousins.

James J. McCarthy

SOMERSWORTH - James J. McCarthy, 85, of 6 Joyce St., died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at his home after a brief illness.

He was born in Dover, N.H., Sept. 18, 1919, the son of Patrick and Annie (Greene) McCarthy. He was educated in Dover Schools and had resided in the Dover-Somersworth area most of his life.

He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Campaign during World War II at Bougainville and at Iwo Jima.

After his military service, he was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the Shipfitter Shop. He retired as a leadman in this trade after 28 years.

In his youth, he boxed under the name ‘the Belfast Spider’. He loved horses and owned several harness race horses. Trotting champions ‘Joe Grunts’ and ‘Just Junk’ raced to his delight at Scarborough Downs, Rockingham Park and at the Rochester Fair Grounds.

He had been very active at Holy Trinity Church serving on various committees throughout the years and most recently he served as an usher. He made himself available on short notice to drive Sr. Judith so as to assist her in ministry to the local communities.

He was predeceased by a son, Patrick and by a sister, Catherine McEneaney.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Antoinette (Demers) McCarthy of Somersworth; four sisters, Mary Williams, Margaret Sheehy, Ann Foss, all of Dover, and Barbara Lawrence of Springvale, Maine, and her husband, William Lawrence, along with many well loved nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Seacoast Hospice or to the Sr. Judith Scholarship Fund.

Brenda J. Micucci

SOMERSWORTH - Brenda J. Micucci, 58, of Brenda Ave., wife of Michael J. Micucci, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Born in Ayer, MA October 23, 1945, she was the daughter of Robert M. and Priscilla (Hughes) Duffy. Brenda was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, class of 1964 and Sacred Heart School of Nursing, class of 1970. She was a registered nurse, most recently employed by Dover Pediatrics and previously as head nurse on Dunaway 1 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. She was a loving mother and enjoyed children greatly. Her experience in pediatric nursing was particularly rewarding to her. Brenda was a fan of James Dean, John Depp and John Travolta. She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church.

Family members include her husband, Somersworth Ward 3 City Councilor, Michael J. Micucci of Somersworth whom she married August 18, 1973, her daughter, Jennifer Ann Micucci of Somersworth, her mother Priscilla H. Duffy of Dover; one brother, Michael Duffy and his wife Cheryl of Windham, ME; one sister, Patricia Edwards and her husband Douglas of Hazen, ND; nieces and nephews, Dougie Edwards, Greg Edwards, Jeff Edwards, Elizabeth (Edwards) Nelson, Kristal Duffy, Matthew Duffy, Sean Carberry; a brother-in-law, Donald Micucci and a special child Casey.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, NH Affiliate, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101.

John Morrissey

ROWLEY, Mass. - John Guy Morrissey, 80, of Plantation Drive, formerly of Somersworth, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at the West Roxbury V.A. Hospital after a period of failing health.

He was born in Somersworth, Aug. 25, 1924, the son of John and Mary (Guy) Morrissey. He was educated in Somersworth Schools graduating from Somersworth High School, Class of 1943.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving as a pharmacist mate in the South Pacific and later at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

He had lived in Rowley since 1986.

Two of his claims to fame was that he was invited to kiss the Pope’s ring during his visit to Boston in 1978, and that he participated in the raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima.

Survivors include two beloved sisters, Marilyn Fowler of South Berwick, Maine and Jeanne Herrick of Arlington, Va.

Robert Morrison

SOMERSWORTH - Robert Morrison, 36, Page St, died early Sunday, September 26, 2004, from a sudden illness at his residence.

He was born on November 25, 1967 in Rochester, NH; the son of Robert A. and Judith L. (Johnson) Morrison of Somersworth, NH.

He resided in Somersworth for the last five years. He was a US Navy Seabees. He was an avid salt water fisherman. He loved skiing and camping, he enjoyed the outdoors.

He is survived by his parents, Robert A. and Judith L. (Johnson) Morrison of Somersworth, NH; two sisters, Tammy L. Hernandez of Middleton, NH and Cynthia L. McKenzie of Somersworth, NH; three nieces, Felin, Haley and Sierra Hernandez and several Aunts and Uncles.

Roger H. Walker

SOMERSWORTH - Roger H. Walker 96, formerly of Laurier Street, Somersworth died Thursday at Sun Bridge Care and Rehabilitation in Rochester after a long illness.

Roger was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire a son of Herbert and Addie (Johnson) Walker on February 8, 1908. He attended the Rollinsford and Rochester schools, and later enlisted in the Navy and served in WWII.

He married Hazel G. Joy on April 18, 1933 and resided in Somersworth, NH for the last 72 years.

Roger worked as a machinist in Shop 31 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME for 33 years, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of the Salvation Army and the American Legion. Roger was active as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher at the Faith Baptist Church in Somersworth, NH.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Edwin L. Walker of Rochester, NH, Arthur F. Walker of Somersworth, NH, one sister Beatrice Turboville of Rochester, NH.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two Sister-in-laws Bertha Rollins of Durham, NH, and Eleanor Grenier of Dover, NH, and several nieces and nephews.

Rhenda Brunelle

SOMERSWORTH - Rhenda Brunelle, 99, formerly of Mt. Auburn St., died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at the Sunbridge Nursing Home in Rochester.

She was born Aug. 1, 1905, in Somersworth, N.H., the daughter of Honore and Marie (Goudreau) Routhier. She was educated in Somersworth schools and had resided here most of her life.

Upon her retirement in 1974, she and her husband moved to Florida where she was active at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Cloud.

She was the widow of Eugene Brunelle who died in 1997.

Survivors include a son, Robert Brunelle and his wife, Norma, of St. Cloud; four grandchildren, John Brunelle of Brookfield, Thomas Brunelle of Seminole, Ala., Vincent Brunelle of Milton, Fla., and Misty Paulick of Seattle, Wash.; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Roland Routhier of Rochester; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Sunbridge Nursing Home, 62 Rochester Hill Road.

Paul Lester

DOVER - Paul Frances Lester, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 21, 2004 following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Paul had been a resident of Dover for more than 40 years.

He was the son of the late Warren Lester and the late Elizabeth (Bresnahan) Lester, and he was raised in Manchester New Hampshire. He was a graduate of both Manchester Central High and Plymouth State College.

In the summer of 1943, prior to starting his senior year in high school, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and trained as an ariel gunner. During World War II he served with the 15th Air Force, 464th Bomb Group, 776th Bomb Squadron, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. As a combat crewmember of the B-24 bomber named “Lady Esther”, operating out of Panatella Air Base Italy, he and his crew completed 56 sorties against Axis targets in Germany, Romania, France, Austria, Yugoslavia and occupied Italy. During his tour of duty he was awarded three Air Medals in addition to other ribbons and awards. Following the war he continued his studies completing his high school diploma and earning a college degree. Following his graduation from college he went on to a career with the Public Service Company of New Hampshire where he worked for 30 years, primarily at the Schiller generating station in Portsmouth.

He enjoyed a variety of hobbies that included; photography, travel, rug braiding and playing an electronic organ he had built himself. He also took great pleasure and satisfaction in the work associated with heating his home with a wood fire for more than 30 years. During his retirement he especially enjoyed spending a month or more each year driving around the country attending air shows and visiting friends. He was a member of St. Joseph’s parish in Dover where he was an usher for more than 20 years. He was proud to be a life member of the Air Force association, and a member of the National Rifle Association. Paul was an incredibly gentle, kind and generous human being who is missed by all who knew and loved him. He always had time to talk, never spoke ill of anyone and would do what he could to help others. According to his younger brother, he and Paul never had a disagreement, even as children. Despite much adversity Paul remained the greatest optimist, confident in his faith, with a deep love for God and Jesus. The Alzheimer’s disease robbed him of his memory but it never took away his love for other’s, his smile, his sense of humor or his laugh.

He leaves behind his son Peter and his beloved granddaughter Veronica. Veronica when learning to speak would call him Pee Paw instead of grandpa. Pee Paw became a moniker that he was proud of and never wanted changed. Additional survivors include his younger brother Donald Lester and his family of Nashua, his niece, Marilyn Amodeo and her family from Salem Mass.

He was predeceased by his half brother George Tustin of Lynn Massachusetts and his former wife, Barbara M. Lester of Somersworth.

During the course of his illness, he and his family received help and assistance from the most wonderful people at Strafford County Homemakers, Wadleigh House, Riverside Rest Home, and Seacoast Hospice.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, January 4, 2005, between 5:00pm-8:00pm at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Church, 150 Central Ave, Dover, NH with Reverend Robert F. Cole pastor, officiating.

Pauline Nadeau

SOMERSWORTH - Pauline M. Nadeau, 74, of 70A Washington Street died peacefully on Tuesday December 14, 2004 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover NH surrounded by her children and family.

Pauline was born in Somersworth on May 20, 1930 and was the daughter of Alpha and Marie Ange (Goulet) Lemay. She was raised in Somersworth and was a graduate of St. Martin Academy.

Mrs. Nadeau was a homemaker. She had lived in Somersworth most of her life and lived in E. Lebanon Me for 12 years before returning to this community. Prior to her husband’s death, she and her husband would spend winters in Florida.

Pauline was a member of the Golden Age Club. She was a communicant of St. Martin Church where she held membership with the Catholic War Veterans Aux. #1755.

Family members include three sons, Leonard Nadeau of Berwick, Maine, Conrad Nadeau of Rochester and Michael Nadeau of Yulee, Florida. Her five daughters, Mrs. Peter (Claudette) Plante of Somersworth, Mrs. Stuart (Constance) Hodgdon of Strafford, Linda Galanes of Rollinsford, Mrs. Steven (Donna) Gagne of Barrington and Mrs. Roger (Nancy) Croteau of Rochester. 17 grandchildren, Jennifer Laurion, Jeffrey Plante, Tim Hodgdon, Jilliane Hodgdon, Jason Galanes, Katie Galanes, Stacey Nadeau, Cheyenne Nadeau, Dakota Nadeau, Corie Gagne, Adam Gagne, Eric Nadeau, Nicole Nadeau, Travis Croteau, Lucas Croteau, Courtney Nadeau and Taylor Nadeau,

She was predeceased by a sister Lucielle Bisson, a son Jeffrey Nadeau and by her husband Raynald P. Nadeau who died in 1996.

Paul Ouellette

DOVER - Paul A. Ouellette, 93, formerly of St. John’s Apts. died Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the Riverside Rest Home, County Farm Road, Dover, after a period of failing health.

Paul was born on January 18, 1911 in Rollinsford, NH, the son of Alfred F and Eugenie (Lebrun) Ouellette.

He worked as a meat cutter in the local markets, until he retired in 1976, from Ray’s Market on Green St., Somersworth, NH.

He is survived by his three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Labrie and her husband, Leo of Riverview, FL., Mrs. Theresa E. Donovan and her husband, Leonard of Port Orange, FL., Mrs. Louise Schofield and her husband, Donald of New Durham, NH.; one son, Richard P. Ouellette of Westfield, MA.; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2004 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 5 Hale St., Dover, NH with Reverend Robert Ervin, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the St. Thomas’ Episcopal Memorial Garden.

Gerard Chabot

WELLS, MAINE - Gerard Chabot 92, of 115 Atlantic Ave. died Thursday December 2, 2004 at The Varney Crossing Nursing Center, N. Berwick after a period of declining health.

Gerard was born on December 14, 1911 in St. Isidore PQ Canada and was the son of Arthur and Mary (Bilodeau) Chabot. He was raised in Canada and attended schools in that country. He came to the United States in the 1920’ s and settled in Somersworth New Hampshire in 1937.

Mr. Chabot had a long and distinguished career in the dairy and grocery retail industry. In 1940 He founded Chabot’s Dairy in Somersworth, NH and went on to purchase Cloverleaf Dairy in Haverhill, Ma. In 1969 he founded The Stop N Go Food outlets which eventually grew to 13 stores.

Gerard was very active in the Somersworth Community where he was a member of the Kiwanis, The Elks and was a member of the Somersworth Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Chabot was also a life member of the 3rd and 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus of Somersworth.

He enjoyed his hobbies in Stained Glass and Artwork and was particularly fond of making grandfather clocks, making seven of them for each of his children and for his two homes. For the past 32 years Gerard and his wife would winter in Florida and spend the summers in Wells Maine. A time, spent with family and fond memories.

Family members include his wife of 63 years, Beatrice (Laliberte) Chabot of Wells Maine. Three sons, Donald Chabot of Dover, NH, Dennis Chabot of Rollinsford, NH, and Marc Chabot of Wells Maine. Two daughters, Mrs. Eddy (Monique) St. Pierre of Berwick, Maine and Mrs. Robert (Estelle) LeComte of Bedford, NH. Other family members include his two sisters from Canada, Lorrette Roberge and Helene Nadeau. 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Many nephews and nieces.

10 brothers and 3 sisters predeceased him.

Haley Kasandra DaSilva

SOMERSWORTH - Haley Kasandra DaSilva, infant daughter of Heidi Reynolds and Andrew DaSilva, was born still Saturday November 27, 2004 at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

She is survived by her parents Heidi Reynolds and Andrew DaSilva, her sister, Mandie Reynolds of Somersworth, her brother, Andrew DaSilva of Somersworth; maternal grandmother, Jean Reynolds of Somersworth; paternal grandparents, Judith Holmes and Thomas DaSilva, both of Massachusetts; her aunts and uncles, Albert Reynolds, III, Christine Hudon, Cristelee Peake, John Peake, Levi DaSilva, and Devin DaSilva; and several cousins.

Madeleine Gaudette

SOMERSWORTH - Madeleine R. Gaudette, formerly of Somersworth and Ellenton, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2004 at the home of her daughter in Northport, MI after a lengthy illness.

Madeleine was born on December 6, 1927 in Somersworth, NH the daughter of Adelard J and Aurore (Couture) Hebert. On June 7, 1947 she married Arthur C. Gaudette, also of Somersworth. They were the parents of two children, Steven C. Gaudette and Carol A. (Gary) Fredrickson.

Madeleine was a communicant of St. Martin Catholic Church. She was a bookkeeper for Public Service Co. of NH for many years. After her retirement she along with her husband moved to Ellenton, Florida, where she was a bookkeeper for Siemens Corporation and later a receptionist for Lane and Associates.

While living in Florida, she was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Palmetto. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and sewing and reading.

Family members include her husband, Arthur (Joe) Gaudette, her daughter, Carol (Gary) Fredrickson of Northport, MI, grandchildren Michael (Michelle) Gaudette of N. Berwick, Maine, Christian (Holly) Gaudette of Dresden, Tenn. and Jeffrey (Ronda) Gaudette of N. Berwick, Maine. Gregory (Dee) Fredrickson of Grawn, MI, Nels (Kathy) Fredrickson of Jenison, MI and Christine Fredrickson of Northport, MI., Great Grand Children, Cheyenne Dunn, of N. Berwick, Maine, Grant, Elizabeth and Davis Fredrickson of Grawn, MI and Owen Fredrickson of Jenison, MI. Her brother Eugene (Ruth) Hebert of Somersworth, and many nephews, nieces and cousins also survives her.

Madeleine was predeceased by her parents, her sister Therese Hebert, her son Steven Gaudette and her granddaughter Randa Marie Fredrickson.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to a charity of ones choice in place of flowers. .
