Cecile R. Gagne

Somersworth - Cecile R. Gagne 73, of 26 Third Street, died Sunday, April 11, 2004 at her residence surrounded by her family. Cecile was born on December 12, 1930 in Somersworth and was the daughter of Onesime and Laura (Lalibertie) Dubois. She was raised in Somersworth and was a graduate of St. Martin Academy and Commercial School.

For many years, Mrs. Gagne was employed as a cashier with Globe Discount Stores. She enjoyed crafts and sewing for her children and grandchildren.

Family members include her husband Julien L. "Gandy" Gagne of Somersworth. A son Martin Gagne and his wife Wendy of Somersworth. Two daughters, Claire Pepin and her husband Andre of Berwick, Maine and Michele Latour and her husband Gregory of Somersworth. Two brothers, Raoul Dubois of Somersworth and Roland Dubois of Lebanon, Maine. A sister Therese Grondin of Somersworth. She leaves her grandchildren Brian Gagne, Brad LaBranche, Randie Lynn Pepin and Travis Pepin, Joshua Roseberry, Aamanda Roseberry, Jonathan Latour, Timothy Latour and Anthony Latour. Her great grandchildren, Ethan Pepin and Harley Pepin and her special little friend Kaylee.

Cecile was predeceased by a brother Odilon Dubois.

The Gagne family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Wentworth Home and Hospice Care but especially to Cheryl Monast for her tireless efforts and care for Cecile.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to the Wentworth Home and Hospice Care, 113 New Rochester Road, Dover, NH 03860.

Sgt. Jeremiah "Jay" Holmes

North Berwick, Maine - Sgt. Jeremiah "Jay" Holmes, NH Army National Guard, 27, of 22 Prospect St. died Monday March 29, 2004 in Balad, Iraq.

Born in Dover, NH April 27, 1976 the son of Sheila Allard Holmes and Mark Keating. He was a 1994 graduate of Noble High School where he was on the swim team, the debate team, and the band.

Prior to being called to active duty he was a manufacturer's representative in the seacoast area for the Bobrow Palumbo Sales Inc.

Jay loved his wife, son & family and enjoyed riding his "Harley", playing horseshoes, swimming and building things with his dad, Dick.

After high school he served with the U. S. Army and then served with the New Hampshire Army National Guard, 744th Transportation Company and was called to active duty this past year.

He is survived by his wife Kimberly (Brodeur) Holmes, his son Kaleb Holmes both of No. Berwick, his "mom & dad" who raised him Sarah (Budd) and Richard W. Allard, Sr. of No. Berwick, his father Mark Keating of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers Michael and Kenneth Fazziola both of Attleboro, MA, Richard Allard, Jr., of Rochester, NH and sisters Selina Gately and her husband Tim of Bangor, ME, Miranda Pratt and her husband Cliff of So. Berwick, ME, Cindy Allard of Berwick, ME, Nancy Allard, of No. Berwick, ME, Nicole Allard, of Somersworth, NH, Vanessa Turgeon, of Dover, NH. He also leaves two half-sisters Whitney and Kayce Keating of Virginia Beach, VA, his paternal grandparents John and Christina Keating of Fayetteville, GA, his mother-in-law Patricia Gammon of Acton, ME, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his mother Sheila Allard Holmes in 1990 and an Uncle Brian K. Allard in 1987.

In lieu of flowers a trust fund is being established for his son Kaleb. Those who wish may send memorials to the Kaleb Holmes Trust, C/O Vivian Macedo, P.O Box 247, Sanbornville, NH 03872.

Elizabeth Ann Moorehouse

Somersworth - Elizabeth Ann Moorehouse, 81, of 35 Lil-Nor Ave. died Friday April 9, 2004 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover, NH.

Elizabeth was born in Somerville MA on July 9, 1922 and was the daughter of Lester C. and Elizabeth C. (Edmands) Hatch. She was raised in Massachusetts and was a graduate of Saugus High School. Elizabeth was a homemaker most of her life, but did work for a time with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. She was an avid reader.

Mrs. Moorehouse had resided in Somersworth for the past 51 years. She was the widow of Joseph E. Moorehouse to whom she was married from October 6, 1943 until his death in December of 1975.

Family members include her daughters, Susan Dodge of Westfield, NJ; Marie Epply and her husband Walter of Sedgwick, ME. and Jayne Cameron of Somersworth, NH. A brother Anthony Hatch and his wife Kay of Stratham, NH. 4 grandchildren, Sharron Dodge and Charles, Joseph Doyle V of Westfield, NJ, William Keevon of Brighton, MA. and Caleigh Keevon of Sedwick, ME. She was predeceased by a sister, Elena Fields, a brother John Hatch and by her husband Joseph Moorehouse.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Somersworth Friends of the Library, 25 Main Street, Somersworth, NH 03878. For additional information or The Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South Street, Somersworth is in charge of arrangements.

Paul S. Rainville

Somersworth - Paul S. Rainville, 83, formerly of 27 Rocky Hill Road died Saturday April 10, 2004 at Riverside Resthome after a long illness.

Paul was born on March 7, 1921 in Somersworth and was the son of Simeon and Marie (LaRochelle) Rainville. He was raised in Somersworth was a graduate of Holy Trinity Grammar School and Somersworth High School. Paul was a lifelong resident of Somersworth.

After High School, Paul worked for a short time at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He had a long and distinguished career with the Merchant Marines and served as a Chief Engineer with over 40 years of service. Paul was a former member of the Elks of Rochester, a union member with the AFLCIO and was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Family members include his wife of 62 years, Leona M. (Marceau) Rainville of Somersworth. Five sons, Robert Rainville of Cape Neddick, Maine, Rene Rainville of Rochester, Leo Rainville of York, Maine, David Rainville of Woodbury, MN and Philip Rainville of Durham. A daughter Pauline Landry of S. Berwick, Maine. Two brothers, Norman Rainville of Hampton VA and Elmo Rainville of Center Barnstead, NH, two sisters, Mrs. Louis Cecile Rosse of Somersworth and Virginia Brown of Barrington. 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A son, Donald Rainville who died in 1995, predeceased him.

Freddy Tasik

SOMERSWORTH - Freddy Tasik of West High Street, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a long illness.

Born Feb. 5, 1951, in Indonesia, he was the son of Joseph and Stien Tasik.

He had lived in Somersworth for the past two years after leaving New York City. He was employed as pastor for the Indonesian Pentecostal Bible Church in Berwick and at the Philadelphia Congregational in New York City. He enjoyed baseball, basketball and preaching the Bible.

Members of his family include his wife, Mahdalena (Slat) Tasik; his mother, Stien Tasik; his children, Grace, Stella and Jerry Tasik; his grandchildren, Gabrielle and Ivosta Mumu; brothers, David Saerang, Johanes and Jeffry Tasik. He is predeceased by his father, Joseph Tasik.

Arrangements are under the direction of R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, N.H. 03867.

Patricia Tsakalos

SANDWICH, Mass. - Patricia Ann (Brulotte) Tsakalos died Wednesday, March 24, at the age of 49 after a courageous 14-month battle with cancer.

Born in Sanford, Maine, on April 3, 1954, she was raised in Somersworth, N.H., and graduated from Somersworth High School in 1972.

Shortly after meeting her husband, Thomas Tsakalos, they relocated to Sandwich. She and her husband owned and operated several businesses and were very active in the community. A loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and auntie, she was devoted to her family and friends.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Church. She had a caring spirit and a warm heart. She touched the lives of many. She enjoyed taking care of her children, was an accomplished cook and loved to be with her family and friends.

Surviving her are her husband, Thomas Tsakalos of Sandwich; her two children, Anthony and Christina Tsakalos of Sandwich; her mother, Theresa (Rouleau) Brulotte of Somersworth, N.H.; two sisters, Mrs. Jean (Elaine) Shepard of Somersworth and Louise Pettiford of Dover, N.H.; her brother, Richard Brulotte of Sandwich; her niece, Mrs. Rick (Traci) Reuter and nephew Ryan Noonan of Elgin, Ill.; and her niece Vanessa Michaud of Dover, N.H.

Lillian G. Bisson

SOMERSWORTH: Lillian G. Bisson, 62, of 395 Main St., formerly of St. John St. in Dover, died May 12, 2004 at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital following a prolonged period of failing health.

She was born in Ashland, NH October 3, 1941 the daughter of Harold and Rose (Spooner) Copp. She was the widow of Richard C. Bisson who died July 10, 1979.

Lillian had worked for several years as a Greeter at the Somersworth Walmart. As a “people person,” she enjoyed the social contact this job allowed her.

She truly loved spending time with her family and friends. The love and devotion she had for her grandchildren goes beyond what mere words can express.

Lillian was an active participant at the Family Christian Center in Berwick, ME where she enjoyed the church suppers and other gatherings.

Members of her family include her daughters, Pamela Turgeon of Berwick and Candice Ray of Strafford, her brothers, Raymond Copp of Old Orchard Beach, ME and Thomas Copp of Waterboro, ME; sisters, Jane Reid of Nashua and Patricia Kimball of Laconia. Her beloved grandchildren, Brandon Turgeon, Tyler Ray and Jacob Ray also survive Lillian. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Tasker Funeral Home 621 Central Ave. Dover, NH

Marjorie Swain Brown

SOMERSWORTH- Marjorie Swain Brown, 80, of 8 William St., died Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Dover Rehab and Living Center following a period of failing health.

Born July 24, 1923 in Wilmington, MA, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Beulah ( Eames) Swain.

Marjorie was a homemaker and lovingly cared for and about her family.

She had moved here two years ago and was previously a longtime resident of Amherst where she was a member of the Amherst Congregational Church. It was there she served as church secretary for several years.

Family members include her husband of 55 years, Roger M. Brown whom she married June 17, 1948 of Somersworth; one daughter, Nancy J. Whitney of Dover; one son, Douglas R. Brown of Austin, TX; one brother, Richard Swain of Nashua; three grandchildren, Brittany Brown of Austin, TX, Sara Callanan of South Berwick, and Lindsay Whitney of Dover; two great grandchildren, Courtney Callanan and Trevor Callanan.

Mrs. Brown was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Swain.

Graveside services will be conducted at a later date in Amherst, NH.

Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 642 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820 or to Alzheimer’s Association of Greater New Hampshire, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord, NH 03301.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.

Martha Bernier

SOMERSWORTH - Martha M. Bernier, 90, of 100 W. High St., died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a brief illness.

She was born in Fort Kent, Maine, on July 22, 1913, the daughter of Thomas and Marie (Morin) Michaud.

She grew up in Fort Kent and later moved to Springvale, Maine. After her marriage to Charles J. Bernier, she resided in Somersworth. She spent most of her married life as a homemaker, and later she worked for General Linen, where she retired.

She was independent and strong. She lived on her own after her husband died until this recent illness. She loved her family and her home that her husband built her. She reminisced about her childhood, her family and Charlie. These memories gave her great comfort. She will be greatly missed by her family.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles, in 1998; four brothers, Roland, Albert, Wilfred, and William; and four sisters, Eunice, Elizabeth, Nancy, and Jeannette.

She is survived by one son, James, and daughter-in-law, Suzanne (Jelley), of Somersworth; a daughter, Linda Sparkman and son-in-law, Erv of Dover; four grandchildren, Christopher Hanscom and his wife, Sandra, of Fountain Valley, Va., Brian Hanscom and his wife, Kerry, of Dover, Jaime Bernier and Michael Bernier of Somersworth; three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Nicholas Hanscom of California, and Noah Hanscom of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Martin Church.

Roberge Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

David Gagnon

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - David R. Gagnon, 47, of Earl's Road in South Berwick, died on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at York Hospital after a brave battle with cancer.

Born on Aug. 20, 1956, in Rochester, N.H., he was the son of Paul and Lucy (Melanson) Gagnon, and was raised in Somersworth, N.H. and attended local schools, graduating from Somersworth High School.

Following high school, he served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy for six years aboard nuclear subMarines.

He was a graduate of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard apprenticeship program, working as a machinist, and nuclear mechanic, retiring this year as an inspector.

He enjoyed his home in South Berwick, where he raised a family and enjoyed his gardens, he especially enjoyed growing vegetables and preserving them by canning. He was a fabulous cook, and enjoyed woodworking as a hobby as well as his remote controlled trucks. He was an accomplished brewmaster, making his own schnapps, and other liquors.

He will be most lovingly remembered as a loving Dad, and most recently a wonderful Pepe' to his grandson and granddaughter. The love he had for them was evident by the joy he emitted when they entered the room.

He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. They include his parents, Paul and Lucy Gagnon of North Berwick and Zephyr Hills, Fla.; a daughter, Denise Gagnon and her daughter, Marlena Cunningham, of Riverside, Calif.; a son, David and his wife, Kristen Gagnon, and their son Aiden, of South Berwick; a sister, MaryEllen Bourbon and her husband, Tony, of North Berwick; and three brothers, Mike and his wife, Donna Gagnon, of Texas, Dennis and his wife, Lisa Gagnon, of Milton, N.H., and Steven Gagnon of California; as well as many aunts and uncles and several nieces and nephews.

Family flowers only, donations may be made in his memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Research Center

Fernand A. Lavoie

Somersworth - Fernand A. Lavoie, Sr., 84, of 4 Sunset Drive died Thursday May 20, 2004 at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Born in Somersworth on February 16, 1920 the son of Alfred and Alice (Ouellette) Lavoie, he grew up in Somersworth and graduated from schools there. He has lived in the Somersworth and Dover area all of his life.

In his younger years he worked for the Zabrick Farm in Somersworth and for many years he was a mechanic for the B & M Transportation Company and later for the D. F. Richard Oil Co. in Dover. After his retirement he was caregiver to his wife and more recently he was an associate at Hannaford's Shop 'N Save. He was also a die-hard Yankee's Baseball fan.

Fern was a member of St. Mary Church in Dover.

The widower of Marion Elizabeth Lavoie who died in 2000 he is survived by two sons Fernand A. Lavoie, Jr. of Lynnfield, MA, Mark H. Lavoie of Dover; two daughters Susan S. Smith of Hampton, Janet C. Lavoie of Portland, OR, five grandchildren Julie MacDormand of Brookline, NH, Scott Lavoie of Dover, Robert Lavoie of Gonic, Adam Lavoie and Reid Lavoie both of Lynnfield, MA, five great-grandchildren Austin Lavoie, Mason Lavoie, Tyler MacDormand, Miles Lavoie and Colby MacDormand. He is also survived by a brother Gerard Lavoie of Somersworth, four sisters Yvette Bosse of Dover, Jeannette Chevalier of Somersworth, Lucille Richard of Dover, Simone Dupuis of Gonic and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a son Paul Lavoie who died in 1959.

Rita Lord

KENNEBUNK, Maine - Rita V. Lord, 83, formerly of 413 Main St., Somersworth, N.H., died Monday, May 24, 2004, at the Kennebunk Nursing Center, Kennebunk, Maine.

She was born on Dec. 24, 1920, in Rochester, N.H., and was the daughter of Peter and Annie (Deblois) Burbank. She was raised in Gonic, attending the Gonic School. She had been a resident of the Somersworth-Rochester area most of her life.

Prior to retirement, she had worked at the Spaulding Fiber Co.

Family members include a sister, Mrs. Rolph (Cecile) Vogelmann of Somersworth; son-in-law, Dannie Camire of Wells, Maine; and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, George J. Lord who died in October of 1999, her daughter, Sandra Camire; her grandson, Dale Donnell; her brothers, George Babin, Edward Burbank; her sisters, Alice Beaulieu, Elizabeth Colby, and Mary Smith.

Roland Morin

SOMERSWORTH - Roland Morin, 74, formerly of Green Street, Somersworth, died Sunday at Riverside Rest Home following a period of failing health.

He was born in Sanford, Maine, on March 2, 1930, the son of Ulric and Emillie (Gilbert) Morin. He was educated in Sanford Schools.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He had resided in Somersworth from 1956 to 1999, when he moved to Riverside Rest Home.

He had been employed by the Somersworth Highway Department from 1956 to 1965. He was also a call fireman for the Somersworth Fire Department at that time.

He had been a member of the DAV of Newington, and American Legion Post 69 of Somersworth.

He was the widow of Marguerite (Leclerc) Morin, who died in 1990.

Survivors include his wife of eight years, Helen (Robinson) Morin of Dover; three sons, Raymond Morin and his wife, Christina, of Rollinsford, Dennis Morin and his wife, Bonnie, of Somersworth and Richard Morin and his fiancee, Denise, of Milton; a daughter, Denise Joseph of Delaware; three grandchildren, Jessica and Scott Morin and Alton Roland Joseph; his stepchildren, Louise, Ruth, Anita, Linda and Carmin; one sister, Lillian McMannus of Lynn, Mass.; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Riverside Rest Home Activities Fund.
