GRACE M. MCCARTHY
BEDFORD – Grace M. Mc- Carthy, 69, died Sept. 11, 2006. She was born in Connecticut and lived in Bedford since 1959.
She worked at New Hampshire Insurance for many years.

She was active with St. Elizabeth Seton Church, helping with its craft fairs and driving residents of a local nursing home to Saturday Mass.

She also made cat blankets and helped out with sales and specific events at the Animal Rescue League in Bedford.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, who died in 1990.

Family members include daughters, Linda McCarthy of Bedford, Jean Darnell of Temple and Bonnie Fairbairn of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Brandon, Shannon and Hailey; brothers, John Moore and William Lanning; and two cats, Misty and Sammy.

A memorial service will take place in spring 2007.

SYLVESTER J. DEMAGGIO JR.
PEMBROKE – Sylvester J. “Jim” DeMaggio Jr., 48, of Borough Road, died Oct. 6, 2006, at Concord Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born March 28, 1958, in Concord, Mass., to Sylvester “Sonny” DeMaggio Sr. of North Charleston, S.C., and Mary (Sears) DeMaggio, who died in March 2005. Mr. DeMaggio lived in Massachusetts until he was 5 and then moved to the Northwood Lake area with his family, where he learned to swim, fish and ice skate. He graduated from Coe- Brown Academy and became a resident of Pembroke nine years ago. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a foreman with Enviro Lab Inc. in Northwood. Mr. DeMaggio loved the outdoors and the good times and fellowship he enjoyed at the Hooksett American Legion. He was also predeceased by his Gramps and Nana, John Sears in 1988 and Emily Sears in 2005. In addition to his father, family members include his wife, Deanne “Missy” (Lucier) DeMaggio of Pembroke; a daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Jonathan Beckwith of Pittsfield; two sons, Micheal and Malcolm DeMaggio, both of Pembroke; four sisters, Fran Ladd of Bow, Peggy DeMaggio of Manchester, Diane Cote of Milford and Carol Walton of Pembroke; two brothers, John DeMaggio of Concord and Sam DeMaggio of South Carolina; nieces and nephews, Michelle Blier, Charlene Corente, Samantha Karolian, Adam DeMaggio, Tonya Caplan, Trisha Laro, Rebecca and Crystal Walton; and great-nephews, Josh Blier, Ethan Corente, Levi and Collin Karolian, Dominic and Seiler DeMaggio, and Dillon Hallee-Walton. E.A. VAN OUDENHOVE
GOFFSTOWN – Evelyn A. Van Oudenhove, 87, died Oct. 3, 2006, after a period of declining health. She was born in New Boston to Archie A. and Eunice F. (Brown) Goodale. She lived in Goffstown most of her life. Mrs. Van Oudenhove worked as a secretary with Manchester Water Works for more than 33 years. She was a past president of the Goffstown Garden Club and past matron of Martha Washington Chapter 6, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Oudenhove was predeceased by her husband, Julien Van Oudenhove, who died in 1995. Family members include a son, James Van Oudenhove of Spofford; grandchildren, Jennifer Van Oudenhove of Lebanon and Derek Van Oudenhove of Rutland, Mass. LENA M. BEAUDET
BEDFORD – Lena M. Beaudet, 64, of Bedford died Oct. 3, 2006, at Community Health and Hospice Center, after a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 7, 1942, to Wilfrid and Lena (Raymond) Beaudet. She had been working in the accounting department of Moore Business Forms for many years. She enjoyed taking care of those around her. Family members include two sisters, Theresa Hadley of Merrimack and Arlene MacElman of Florida; three brothers, Henry Beaudet of Florida and Edward Beaudet and George Beaudet, both of Manchester; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins. CECILIA W. RILEY
BEDFORD – Cecilia W. Riley, 92, died Oct. 6, 2006, at Hanover Hill Healthcare Center in Manchester. She was born Sept. 29, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Francis and Bridgit (Clark) Clarke. She was a resident of Bedford for the past one-and-a-half years. Mrs. Riley was a member of the Ridgewood Country Club, and enjoyed playing golf and bridge. Family members include a son, Edward L. Riley of Niskayuna, N.Y.; a daughter, Trish Murray of Amherst; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester, 401 Cypress St., Manchester, NH 03103; or the American Cancer Society, “Breast Cancer Research,” 360 Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110. EDITH E. MCKAY
GOFFSTOWN – Edith E. McKay, 70, died Oct. 3, 2006, after a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1935, in Norwood, Mass., to John and Mary (Thompson) Coffey. Mrs. McKay was a resident of Goffstown for the past six years, formerly living in Londonderry. She was employed at the restaurant in Jordan Marsh in Bedford for many years. Mrs. McKay was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed candlepin bowling and was an exceptional athlete for her age. She was predeceased by her husband, Tolbert M. McKay who died in 1997. Family members include sons, Thomas LaFrance of Pelham and John LaFrance of Manchester, a daughter, Cynthia Gelinas of Michigan; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters. Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium in Londonderry handled the arrangements.

JAMES GARRICK BYRNE
BEDFORD – James “Jim” Garrick Byrne, 65, of Bedford, died Oct. 3, 2006, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital of a sudden illness. He was born Aug. 29, 1941, to Edward Garrick Byrne and Loretta McGuire Byrne of Ft. Riley, Kan. He grew up with two sisters, Marcella and Lynette in Kansas and in Germany, as his father was a career military officer. Mr. Byrne studied civil engineering at Kansas State University. In 1961, he enlisted in the Army and his keen mechanical abilities led him to working with the Hawk Missile System. In 1963, upon discharge from the Army, he accepted a position with Raytheon, the manufacturer of the Hawk missile. As an engineer and program manager, he worked for Raytheon on missile and radar systems for his entire professional life. In addition to many places in the United States, he worked and lived all over the world, including the Far East, Middle East and Europe. Mr. Byrne met his wife Maria of 39 years while working in Korea. They were married on March 17, 1967, and had two children, Michael and Patrick. After retiring five years ago, he kept busy with projects large and small around their homes in Bedford and Naples, Fla., where he and his wife spent winters. Mr. Byrne enjoyed carpentry, gardening and all things Irish. He loved spending time with friends and family while they enjoyed his sharp wit and great sense of humor. Above all, he was a loving husband and father. He was a man of honor, principle and he always had the love and respect of those fortunate enough to know him. Family members include his wife Maria; two sons, Michael of San Diego, Calif., and Patrick and wife, Tanya, of Newburyport, Mass., and their son Jack. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110. Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium in Manchester handled the arrangements.

RONALD A. BARNES
PEMBROKE – Ronald A. Barnes, 48, formerly of Exeter, died Oct. 2, 2006, at Concord Hospital. He was born Aug. 25, 1958, in Exeter to Richard A. and Helen B. (Plummer) Barnes. He was raised in Kensington and lived for several years in Pembroke. Mr. Barnes worked in the masonry business for several years and enjoyed music, poetry and was a collector of coins. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandson. Family members include a son, Erik C. Barnes, of Illinois; a daughter, Danielle R. Barnes of Concord; a grandson; two brothers, Jerry Head of Kensington and Norman Head of Exeter; two sisters, Judy MacCloed of Epping and Linda Dube of Hooksett; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial donation may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, NH 03806. Stockbridge Funeral Home in Exeter handled the arrangements.

WALTER D. HODGMAN
WEARE – Walter D. Hodgman, 85, died Oct. 8, 2006, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Weare to Harry and Ella (Boynton) Hodgman and was a lifelong resident of the community. Mr. Hodgman was employed for more than 36 years with Davison Construction Company of Manchester. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a longtime Mason, belonging to the Aurora Lodge of Henniker and Harmony of Hillsborough. He was a lifetime member and served as past commander of Philbrick-Clement American Legion Post 65. Family members include his wife of 59 years, Ruth (Eaton) Hodgman of Weare; two daughters, Janet Benson of Weare and Patricia Bush of Sheffield, Mass.; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to Philbrick-Clement American Legion Post 65. French and Rising Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

DAISY S. ATWOOD
PEMBROKE – Daisy S. Atwood, 94, died Oct. 2, 2006, at Merrimack County Nursing Home. She was born in Manchester, Mass., to Ezra Wallace and Nellie Daisy (Dennis) Stanley. Mrs. Atwood worked as a secretary for Pembroke Academy until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Pembroke and served as mother adviser to the Rainbow Girls in Concord. She was an avid gardener and loved the ocean. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence C. Atwood, who died in 1977. Family members include a brother, Richard D. Stanley of Sunnyvale, Calif.; two nieces, Elsie S. Campbell of Pembroke and Connie J. Stanley of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and a nephew, Dennis Stanley of Delmar, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to the Pembroke Academy Library, 209 Academy Road, Pembroke, NH 03275. Bennett Funeral Home in Concord handled the arrangements.

ROBERT A. BECKWITH
GOFFSTOWN – Robert A. Beckwith, 66, formerly of Woburn, Mass., died suddenly Oct. 3, 2006, at his home. He was born in Stoneham, Mass., to Charles E. and Dorothy (Whitehouse) Beckwith. Mr. Beckwith started his firefighting career with Woburn Auxiliary Fire Department and became a full-time firefighter with the city of Woburn. He was assigned to many stations throughout his 22-year career. During his spare time, he also worked at the former John J. Riley Tannery and Patrick Gill Religious Supply in Woburn. Mr. Beckwith retired from the fire department in 1986, and he and his wife moved to Goffstown. He enjoyed collecting fire memorabilia and photographs and was a member of SPAAMFA, an organization dedicated to preserving antique fire apparatus. Mr. Beckwith also collected antique fire engines. Among his collection was a 1947 Maxim, and a 1948 American LaFrance fire engine. He will be missed by his faithful dalmation, Flame. Family members include his wife Margaret E. “Peggy” (Greene) Beckwith; two daughters, Sue Ellen Medeiros of Goffstown and Jennifer Gendron of Manchester; two sons, Alan Beckwith of Kittery, Maine, and Scott M. “Otis” Beckwith of Methuen, Mass.; seven grandchildren; a brother, Donald Beckwith of California; a sister, Barbara MacHenry of Salem; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Graham Funeral Home in Woburn handled the arrangements.

RICHARD E. CORBIN
ALLENSTOWN -- Richard E. Corbin, 79, of Birchwood Drive, died Oct. 5, 2006, in his sleep at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Concord after a lengthy illness. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., to Alfred and Adele (Malouin) Corbin. Mr. Corbin was the owner and operator of Corbin’s Autos for 30 years, retiring in 1985. Family members include his wife of 50 years, Katherine (Malitsas) Corbin; a daughter, April (Corbin) Provost and her husband, Jon, of Bow; a granddaughter, Delaney Provost of Bow; three grandsons, Corbin, Brett and Evan Provost, all of Bow; a brother, Robert Corbin and his wife, Olive, of Nashua; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Roland and Margaret Francoeur of Bow; sister-in-law and brother- in-law, Robert and Maxine Larson of Minneapolis; sisterin- law, Adeline Vaughn of Bow; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. ANTHONY D’ANDREA
AUBURN – Anthony Nicolas Angleo “Tony” D’Andrea, 67, died Oct. 5, 2006, at his home after a battle with lung cancer. He was born Oct. 24, 1938, in Roccamandolfi, Italy, to Nicola D’Andrea and Raffaela Rizzi. Mr. Andrea immigrated to New Jersey in 1945. He retired from Mars International after 20 years, and most recently was a bus driver for The Provider. Family members include his wife Lora (Moore) D’Andrea of Auburn; two daughters, Denise of New Jersey and Terry of Pennsylvania; two sons, Michael and Patrick of New Hampshire; two stepsons, Nick of New Hampshire and Ben of Arizona; and many member of his extended family. Cremation Society of New Hampshire handled the arrangements.

MICHAEL L. BRIGGS
MANCHESTER – Manchester Police Officer Michael L. Briggs, 35, of Concord, died Oct. 17, 2006, at Elliot Hospital in Manchester.
He was born May 2, 1971, in Epsom to Leland and Maryann (Fisher) Briggs. He grew up in Epsom and was a 1990 graduate of Pembroke Academy.

Mr. Briggs served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1991 to 1995.

From the age of 12 until entering the Marine Corps, he worked at Yeaton Dairy Farm in Epsom.

He began his career in law enforcement as a part-time officer with the Epsom Police Department.

He then was an officer with Hillsborough County Department of Corrections before joining the Manchester Police Department in 2000.

In addition to his parents of Epsom, family members include his wife of nearly 12 years, Laura (Swinger) Briggs of Concord; two children, Brian M. Briggs and Mitchell S. Briggs, both of Concord; three sisters, Tracie Davison of Chichester and Melisa Briggs and Sarah Briggs, both of Epsom; his maternal grandmother, Cecile Fisher of Suncook; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

GEORGE D. CROTEAU
ALLENSTOWN – George D. Croteau, 71, of Emile Drive, died Oct. 6, 2006, at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester.
He was born Dec. 13, 1934, in Manchester to Lucien and Eugenie (Gagne) Croteau. He spent most of his life in Manchester, moving to Allenstown three years ago.

Mr. Croteau was a truck driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking for 20 years and was also employed for the Manchester Transit Authority in the maintenance department.

He was a water commissioner for the city of Manchester, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Rimmon Club.

Mr. Croteau was an organizer of Banjo Fest and was proud of the penmanship award he won in grammar school.

Family members include his wife, Irene (Baril) Croteau of Allenstown; three children, Denise Weir of North Carolina, Debbie Magnum of Manchester and Mark Croteau of Georgia; four stepchildren, John Valley and Michelle Baillargeon Lacroix, both of Manchester, and Lorraine Baillargeon Day and Linda Baillargeon Senecal, both of Allenstown; two grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat- grandchildren; four brothers, Gerald and Donald Croteau, both of Manchester, Gerard Croteau of Hurst, Texas, and Adrien Croteau of Peoria, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews.
