BARBARA BRENNAN
GOFFSTOWN – Barbara “Gram” Brennan, 81, died Jan. 27, 2007 following a brief illness.
She was born in Lowell, Mass., to Henry and Barbara (Roth) Nelson. She resided in that community until moving to Goffstown in 1956.

Mrs. Brennan enjoyed gardening and working with flowers, and was the owner of Bar- Bren Gardens in Pinardville for many years. She was also employed with the Goffstown News and Scovil Manufactory of Manchester.

Mrs. Brennan was a member of the Goffstown Garden Club and a Charter Member of Kearsage Trail Snails Snowmobile Club.

She was a devoted mother.

Mrs. Brennan was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Francis J. Brennan Sr., who died in 1997.

Family members include a son, Francis J. Brennan Jr. of Goffstown; two daughters Kathleen Gokey of Florida and Monica Gorman of Goffstown; eight grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels program, St. Joseph Community Services Inc., 395 D.W. Highway, P.O. Box 910, Merrimack, NH 03054.

IRENE B. TRUSKA
BEDFORD – Irene B. Truska, 93, died Jan. 24, 2007, at Ridgewood Center after a period of declining health.
She was born Dec. 2 1913, in Goffs Falls to Willibert and Diana (Chartier) Gamache. She was educated in the Manchester school system and graduated from Manchester Central High School.

She was married Nov. 12 1949, in Goffs Falls. Mrs. Truska worked for the Manchester School District in the cafeteria department for 10 years before her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, ballroom dancing and gardening.

She was a communicant of St. Pius X Church and was a member of the Redman and High Hopes.

She served as secretary with the Daughters of Pocahontas.

Mrs. Truska was predeceased by her daughter, June Truska in 1960.

Family members include her husband of 57 years, Algerd J. Truska of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater New Hampshire Chapter, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord, NH 03301.

The McHugh Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

LAURENCE C. HALE
CONCORD – Laurence C. Hale, 89, of Concord, died Jan. 20, 2007, at Concord Hospital.
He was born in Salem, Mass., to Warren F. and Annie (Pettengill) Hale.

Mr. Hale worked as a soil tester for the state of New Hampshire, and he was a member of the First Congregational Church in Concord and the Carriage Association of America.

He enjoyed raising horses.

Family members include his wife, Daisy Hale of Concord.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

MARY TERESA CARR
GOFFSTOWN – Mary Teresa Woods Whelton Carr, 86, died April 21, 2007, in her sleep, at home, after a brief bout with cancer.
She was born March 16, 1921, in Washington, D.C. Her father was in the diplomatic service and the family traveled extensively in France, Scotland and Ireland, where she completed her secondary education. The family returned to the United States permanently in 1936.

During World War II, she worked as a mechanical drafter for a firm in Boston. Later, she married Daniel Vincent Whelton, with whom she had nine children. The couple resided in Goffstown for a number of years, and the she was widowed in 1962.

From 1969 to 1989, Mrs. Carr was employed by the Jordan Marsh Co. in Bedford. She was also active in the church community.

She played organ and piano and sang for the St. Lawrence Mission. She continued to sing in the St. Lawrence Church choir until early 2007.

In 1976, she married Charles W. Carr at St. Lawrence Church.

They enjoyed traveling together, including trips to the Western United States and Germany.

They were well-known to be the users of the Goffstown Village sidewalks.

Mrs. Carr enjoyed many years of volunteer work at the Meals-on-Wheels kitchen, he Maple Avenue elementary school library and the Goffstown Public Library. She also enjoyed memberships in the Goffstown Mother’s Club, the St. Lawrence Guild, the Manchester Business and Professional Women’s Club, and the Friends of the Goffstown Public Library.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Daniel Vincent Whelton; and two children, Daniel and Louise Whelton.

Family members include her husband, Charles W. Carr of Goffstown; seven children, Paul Whelton of Danvers, Mass., Justin Whelton of Manchester, Michael Whelton Nashua, Vincent Whelton of Charlotte, N.C., Brian Whelton of Londonderry, Mary Ricker of Goffstown; and Claire Grosso, currently residing in Stuttgart, Germany; two sisters, Charlotte May of Northboro, Mass., and Helen Woods of Melrose, Mass.; a brother, Leslie Woods of Stoneham, Mass.; seven stepchildren; 27 grandchildren; and 23 greatgrandchildren.

HUGH S. WAGNER
CONTOOCOOK – Hugh S. Wagner, 88, of Deer Path, died April 14, 2007, at the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association’s Hospice House.
He was born July 20, 1918, in Indianapolis, to Carl and Sarah (Sutherland) Wagner. He graduated from Shorewood High School in Milwaukee, Wis., and attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Mr. Wagner served most of World War II as a naval aviator engaged in anti-submarine warfare.

After VE day, he was in night fighters until the end of the war. He continued flying in the naval reserve until 1964, when he retired as a captain, USNR. His corporate career was concentrated in the areas of sales, marketing and general management.

He spent 14 years with Shell Oil Co. in the Midwest and New England. The next 13 years were spent in the marine industry in New England. From 1973, until his retirement 17 years later, he represented Planned Equity Corp. as regional vice president.

A resident of Contoocook since 1972, Mr. Wagner volunteered in the community with Dial-A-Ride, the Better Business Bureau and the AARP Tax-Aide program.

An avid sailor, he enjoyed weekend sailing on Lake Sunapee and spending his summers in the Les Cheneaux Islands in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Wagner; and a sister, Carol Johnson.

Family members include his loving wife of 63 years, Cameron B. Wagner; a daughter, Judith Howe of Nottingham; four sons, Bill Wagner of Astoria, Ore., Rick Wagner of Concord, Peter Wagner of Portland, Ore., and Chuck Wagner of Dexter, Mich.; and 12 grandchildren.

SUZANNE T. CARRIER
ALLENSTOWN – Suzanne T. (Caron) Carrier, 48, of Suncook Pond Drive, died April 18, 2007.
She was born Aug. 25, 1958, in Manchester, and spent most of her life in Allenstown. She was a graduate of Farmington High School and was an avid reader.

Mrs. Carrier was predeceased by her husband, Paul Carrier, who died in 2001.

Family members include her parents, Nelson and Rita (Lang) Caron of Allenstown; four siblings and their spouses, Lucille and Marc McEnany of Canterbury, Pauline and Austin Abeels of Manchester, Robert and Roberta Caron of Manchester and Raymond Caron of Merritt Island, Fla.

Petit Funeral Home in Pembroke handled the arrangements.

TYLER J. AND AMIE L. FOURNIER
CONCORD – Tyler James Fournier and Amie Lee Fournier, infant twins, died April 11, 2007, shortly after birth at Concord Hospital.
Born to Richard and Angela (Perron) Fournier of Concord, they are also survived by four brothers, Sabastian and Travis Mallalieu and Ricky and Wade Fournier, all of Concord; maternal grandparents, Michael and Sue Perron of Allenstown; paternal grandmother, Kathy O’Toole of Massachusetts; three stepbrothers, Jack, Alex and Adam Fournier of Warner; an uncle, Steven Perron of Allenstown; and several other aunts and uncles.

Waters Funeral Home in Concord handled the arrangements.

DARLENE GALE BEATTIE
ALLENSTOWN – Darlene Gale Beattie, 48, died April 18, 2007, at home, of cancer.
She was born Oct. 29, 1958, at Claremont General Hospital to Kenneth and Vivian Atwood.

She grew up in Claremont and Derry, where she went to Pinkerton Academy. She often spent her summers at her aunt’s farm in Vermont.

She lived with her husband of 29 years, Dennis Beattie, in Allenstown, where they raised two daughters. In the early years, she could be found weekends at horse shows and weekdays in cold ice rinks, always supporting her girls’ dreams.

For many years, Mrs. Beattie worked as a medical assistant at Concord Family Medicine in Concord. Her co-workers fondly called her “Darla.” She was known for her constant craving to expand her knowledge and her passion for working with seniors.

Her co-workers remember her always sharing her winsome smile with everyone, bringing ease to the patients she worked with. She was known to be a kindred spirit with a wholesome and beautifully naive outlook.

She aspired to be a nurse and, before her illness, was enrolled full time in the nursing program at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord.

Mrs. Beattie had many hobbies, including knitting, crocheting, stained glass, sewing and quilting. She enjoyed cross-country skiing and looked forward to an annual hike up Tuckerman’s Ravine.

She grew up playing guitar and always enjoyed summer nights around a campfire playing guitar and singing folk songs with her family and friends. She also took piano and fiddle lessons.

Mrs. Beattie enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. In recent years, she took a trip to the Dominican Republic and several trips to Florida and Maine. She traveled with a close group of friends to Dresden, Ohio, to visit the home of Longaberger baskets.

She made all people feel special and welcome, and for this reason always had family and friends visiting the home she shared with her husband, often for extended periods of time.

Family members include her parents, Kenneth and Vivian Atwood of Clearwater, Fla.; husband, Dennis Beattie of Allenstown; two daughters, Deanna Beattie of Burlington, Vt., and Danielle Beattie of Sarasota, Fla.; a grandson, Mason Richard of Sarasota, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.

DORIA LEFEBVRE
ALLENSTOWN – Doria Lefebvre, 81, of Cross Street, died April 20, 2007, at home after a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 19, 1925, to Achille and Angelina (Neveu) Lefebvre. He was a lifelong Allenstown resident.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Lefebvre worked for the Boston & Maine Railroad and the Portsmouth Naval Yard as a pipe fitter.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the John J. Maguire American Legion Post No. 28 of Suncook.

Mr. Lefebvre enjoyed baseball and played in both the Concord and Suncook leagues.

He was also an accomplished candlepin bowler, belonging to both senior leagues at Lakeside Lanes and having won the New Hampshire State Bowling Championship in 1949.

He had a ready smile and was always available to help anyone who needed him, especially his sisters, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Medora Viens.

Family members include three sisters, Berangere Bea Brisbois and Blanche Proulx, both of Allenstown, and Odelva Del Geddes of Sunapee and Florida; eight nieces and nephews, Leonard and Normand Viens, Elaine Sakelarios, David Janelle, Claire Hussey, Richard and Roger Proulx, and Jeannine Eaton; and greatnieces and nephews.
