GEORGE F. MONTGOMERY
HOPKINTON – George F. Montgomery, 94, of Contoocook, died Sept. 25, 2007, at New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton.
He was born June 13, 1913, in June to Scott and Mary Montgomery. He was a 1931 graduate of Hopkinton High School.

Mr. Montgomery joined the United States Army at the start of World War II, as a member of the 95th Division. Participation in the Battle of the Bulge, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for bravery under intense gunfire.

After the war, he managed the largest PX base in Europe for several years. Returning to the Untied States, he worked as manager for several F.W. Woolworth Stores.

Mr. Montgomery belonged to Humane Lodge 21 Free and Accepted Masons in Rochester. He was a devoted uncle to several nieces and nephews, plus all of their children. His reputation as their favorite uncle was well-deserved.

ROGER S. ORDWAY
BOW – Roger S. Ordway, Sr., 75, retired Fire Chief for the town of Bow died, unexpectedly, Sept. 29, 2007, at Concord Hospital.
He was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Concord to George F. and Grace (Elliott) Ordway. He attended Concord schools and graduated from Concord High School Class of 1949.

Mr. Ordway married Priscilla Morgan on Feb. 2, 1952, at St. Paul’s Church in Concord.

He joined Bow Fire Department in 1947, where he remained an active member until he retired as Fire Chief in 1990. During the 1960s, he was as also a part-time police officer for the town of Bow. He was also employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for many years and later as a trades mechanic for the city of Concord, retiring in 1993.

Mr. Ordway served on many committees and associations over the years, namely the New Hampshire Fire Warden Association, the Capital Area Mutual Aid Fire Compact and the Heritage Committee for the town of Bow to name but a few. He was also an active longtime member of the Bow Mills United Methodist Church in Bow and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Family members include his wife of 55 years, Priscilla M. Ordway of Bow; a daughter, Jayne E. Cantara and her husband, Russell, of Bow; a son, Roger S. Ordway II and his wife, Jennifer, of Concord; grandsons, Joshua D. Cantara, Cody A. Ordway, Thomas R. Cantara and Andrew J. Cassavaugh; two sisters, Sandra Smith and her husband, Vernon, of North Stratford and Dianne Wright of Bow.

WILLIAM ABRAMSON
GOFFSTOWN – William Abramson, 87, of Goffstown, died Sept. 22, 2007, surrounded by his family at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester.
He was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Dallas, to Isadore and Annie Slovek Abramson of Poland. He was one of eight children in his family.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Texas National Guard, which was nationalized and sent overseas as a part of the legendary Fighting 36th Lonestar Infantry Division of the United States Army.

There, he served in Africa, chasing Rommel’s troops. He was among the first troops at Anzio and walked the length of Italy, France, Austria and Germany, contributing ultimately to the German surrender. For his services, he was a highly decorated World War II veteran, earning the Silver Star and five Bronze Stars for his bravery.

Following the war, after a courtship conducted entirely through love letters during his extended military service, Mr. Abramson married Charlotte Pearl Nappan of Chelsea, Mass., in 1945. Together, they shared 62 happy years of marriage.

After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked for 20 years as a production manager at Fenton Shoe Corp. in Cambridge, Mass. Though he started at the bottom, he ultimately ran the company for the factory owners, a testament to his honesty and hard work. He was a perfectionist who fought on behalf of the people he supervised to have them treated fairly and compensated properly, always serving as a role model of high standards for his employees and his family.

After retiring from the shoe industry, Mr. Abramson worked as a deputy sheriff at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department, a job he thoroughly enjoyed well into his 70s and in which he was again admired for astonishing productivity and diligence.

He then retired to spend more time with his family, to which he was devoted above all else. He will be greatly missed.

Family members include his wife, Charlotte Abramson of Goffstown; a son, attorney Mark Abramson and his wife, the Honorable Gillian Abramson, of Bedford; a daughter, Gail Wild and her companion, Frank Wiggins, of Newport; grandchildren Emily Eaton of Manchester and Nicholas Abramson of Boston; great-grandson Brady Eaton of Manchester; grandson-in-law Jay Eaton of Manchester; and a sister, Hannah Finkelstein of Dallas.

Memorials donations may be made to the Greater Derry Humane Society, P.O. Box 142, East Derry, NH 03041.

HELEN L. FREITAS
GOFFSTOWN – Helen L. Freitas, 69, died Sept. 27, 2007, at Harborside Health Care Center, after a brief illness.
She was born May 6, 1938, in Enfield to Arthur and Hazel (Wescott) Lombard.

Prior to her retirement, she was a senior office assistant of central receiving for Southern New Hampshire University.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, and to friends, staff and colleagues at Southern New Hampshire University.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph D. Freitas, on March 17, 2002.

Family members include two sons, Randy Miller and Steven Freitas, both of Goffstown; four daughters, April Evens and Patty Miller, both of Manchester, Wendy Miller of Weare, and Brandi Nalen of Goffstown; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Gerald Lombard of Boscawen; two sisters, Bernice Dicey of Derry and Beverly Yazzetti of Manchester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial donations may be made to Norris Cotton Cancer Center, 100 Hitchcock Way, Manchester, NH 03104.

JASON JAMES WARRINER
CONCORD – Jason James Warriner, 25, of Concord died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, of a sudden illness.
He was born July 29, 1982, in Concord and attended local schools.

Mr. Warriner was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and also enjoyed working on cars and spending time with his family.

He was predeceased by his mother, Charleen Warriner.

Family members include his father, Bruce Warriner of Concord; two brothers, James and Kyle Warriner; his grandparents, Walter and Carole Warriner; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

PAUL R. DUCHARME
BEDFORD – Paul R. Ducharme, 54, died Sept. 23, 2007, at Community Hospice House, Merrimack, after a period of declining health.
He was born April 14, 1953, in Manchester to Gerard and Fleurette (Bergeron) Ducharme. She was educated in Manchester schools, graduating from Manchester West High School Class of 1972.

Mrs. Ducharme was employed by Manchester Security Service, and then by Citizens Bank for 10 years. Most recently, he worked as a printer at Lafayette Press.

He was a loving husband and father.

Family members include his wife, Cheryl (Pelletier) Ducharme of Bedford; two sons, Nicholas and Hunter Ducharme, both of Bedford; two daughters, Brittany and Amber Ducharme, both of Bedford; six brothers, Leo Ducharme, Roland Ducharme, Richard Ducharme and Michel Ducharme, all of Manchester, Jean Ducharme of New Ipswich, and Daniel Ducharme of Weare; two sisters, Lorraine Desfosses of Manchester and Pauline Previe of Hooksett; and many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

FRANCIS N. SOUTHWORTH
CONCORD – Francis Norman Southworth of Concord, died Sept. 27, 2007, at the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association’s Hospice House.
He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., to Richard N. and Ellen H. Southworth. After graduating Concord High School in Vermont in 1936, Mr. Southworth continued his education throughout his life with degrees from Concord College of Business, Rutgers University of New Jersey School of Banking, Columbia University School of Business in New York and finishing with a doctorate of science degree from New England College in Henniker.

Mr. Southworth was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Italy as a light mortar crewman in the 362nd Infantry Regiment of the Fifth Army’s 91st “Powder River” division. On May 31, 1945, he received a citation for bravery for his actions during the Fifth Army’s Italian Campaign.

After returning from the war, he continued the banking career he had started in 1938, by serving as a bookkeeping machine operator at First National Bank in Concord. As the bank grew and prospered, so did his career and after many years of service, he was elevated to president of Concord National Bank and ultimately president of First National Bankcorp.

During the early 1980s, Mr. Southworth was honored to serve on the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in one of the many highlights of his career.

He dedicated a great deal of his time to the Rotary Clubs of both Concord and Kihei-Wailea, Hawaii, serving as the president of the Concord Rotary Club in 1970 and honored as the 1994 Rotarian of the Year in Kihei- Wailea.

Family members include his wife, Priscilla, of Concord; two daughters, Anne Ayer of State College, Pa., and Mary Lou Drew of Windham, Maine; a son, Richard P. Southworth of Ohio; sister, Laura Rivers of Concord, Vt.; a niece, Nancy Rivers, also of Concord, Vt.; cousin, David Emery and his wife, Shirley, of Concord, Vt.; as well as five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life was held on Father’s Day, June 17, 2007, with a family reunion at the Cat ‘n’ Fiddle Restaurant.

LORRAINE A. ROUTHIER
HOOKSETT – Lorraine A. Routhier, 85, died Sept. 21, 2007, at home following a period of declining health.
She was born Feb. 16, 1922, in Lowell, Mass., to Joseph and Maria (Hamel) Gravel. She moved to Manchester and was educated in Manchester schools.

Mrs. Routhier lived in Hooksett for 45 years and was a communicant of St. Catherine Parish.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. After raising her children, she worked in the electronics field and retail sales for more than 10 years.

Mrs. Routhier was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Roland A. Routhier Sr., in 1998. Some of her fondest memories were the 10 years they shared in Florida prior to his death.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the VNA Home Health and Hospice Services for their loving support and care for Lorraine during her illness.

Family members include two sons, Roland A. Routhier Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann, of Portsmouth and Denis E. Routhier and his wife, Laura, of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Constance M. Routhier of North Andover, Mass.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Maurice Gravel of Manchester; two sisters, Yvette Latulippe and Anita Gravel, both of Manchester; and nieces and nephews.

MADELEINE DOWNES BUTTRICK
CONTOOCOOK – Madeleine Downes Buttrick, 90, died, Oct. 8, 2007, at Concord Hospital after a brief period of failing health.
She was born on Aug. 24, 1917, in Greenfield, Mass., to Alice (Sargent) and Daniel Downes. She married Ervin Warren Buttrick on Nov. 25, 1937, at the home of her parents in Contoocook.

A graduate of Hopkinton High School in 1935, Mrs. Buttrick spent most of her years living in Contoocook and Concord.

In addition to raising her family, she worked for the New Hampshire Motor Vehicle Division for 10 years and was librarian of the Bates Library in Contoocook from 1965 to 1972.

She was a very active Grange member for more than 60 years including Pomona, State and National Granges. She was a long-term active member of the Contoocook United Methodist Church and UMW. She was a former member of the Concord Coach Square Dance group, as well as being an active member of the Golden Group of Hopkinton.

Her favorite pastimes were knitting, quilting and cross-stitching.

Mrs. Buttrick wintered with her husband for 16 years in Florida and was a very active participant in many square and line dancing groups as well as taking cruises and enjoying retirement in the sun.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ervin, in 1990; and two sisters, Katherine Martin of Vero Beach, Fla., and Pauline Wilder of Contoocook.

Family members include three children, Janet K. Buttrick of Denver, Fred E. Buttrick and his wife, Jacqueline, of Auburn and Nancy A. Buttrick of Firestone, Colo.; a sister, Arline Rich of New Hampshire; two grandsons, James Buttrick of Goffstown and Jonathan Buttrick of Jamaica Plain, Mass.; two greatgrandchildren, James and Hannah Buttrick; numerous other nieces and nephews; and many, many loving friends also survive her.

DOLORES N. MOQUIN
MANCHESTER – Dolores “Dolly” N. Moquin, 94, formerly of Goffstown, died Oct. 7, 2007, at Villa Crest Retirement home, surrounded by her daughters and caregivers.
She was born Dec. 27, 1912, in Manchester to Denis and Eugenie (Montambault) Roy. She resided in Manchester before moving to Goffstown. She was a Goffstown resident for 68 years prior to moving to Villa Crest.

She married Arcade J. Moquin on Nov. 3, 1931.

Mrs. Moquin was a stay-athome wife and mother. She did work for a short period of time at Johnson Shoe of Manchester.

While living in Goffstown, she was a communicant of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Most important to her was taking care of and cooking for her family. She cherished her time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed all types of music.

She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years in 2002.

Family members include three daughters, Dolores Hosmer of Goffstown, Catherine (Kay) Simpson of Goffstown and Rita Villemure and her husband, Raymond, of Goffstown; eight grandchildren, Barbara Chase of Sanbornton, Pat St. Onge of Manchester, Phil Simpson of Weare, Susan Holden of Bedford, Rebecca Evan of Manchester, William Hosmer of Vermont, Christine Hemeon of Hill and Jim Villemure of Manchester; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Roger Roy and his wife, Kitty of Bedford; a sister, Pauline St. Germaine of Merrimack; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
