Barbara Ann Lahr

RAYMOND - Barbara Ann Lahr, 66, of 53 Green Road, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

She was born June 20, 1935, in Wakefield, Mass., the daughter of Charles T. and Myra (Brockbank) George.

Mrs. Lahr was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Derry.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Lahr of Raymond; two daughters, Carol Patey of Raymond and Beth Lahr of Hampton; one son, Eric Lahr of Raymond; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred George of York, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth George and Doris Naugler; and two brothers, Warren George and Richard George.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 50 Adams Pond Road, Derry. Burial will follow in Old Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.

Memorial donations may be made to the Raymond Ambulance Association, 1 Scriber Road, Raymond, NH 03077.

Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond.

John J. Ingalls Sr.

HAVERHILL, Mass. - John J. Ingalls Sr., 76, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, in Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill.

He was born May 8, 1925, in West Epping, the son of the late William and Gladys Ingalls.

He was educated in West Epping schools, and moved to Haverill as a teenager. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Ingalls was employed by Essex County Gas for 40 years, retiring as a crew chief in the mid 1980s.

He was a member of the Plaistow Fish & Game Club; the AMVETS Post No. 147; The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Haverhill; and the American Legion of Plaistow.

He enjoyed spending time at his camp.

The widower of Ethel M. (Thornhill) Ingalls, who died in 1987, he is survived by one son and his wife, John J. Jr. and Linda Ingalls of Kingston; one daughter, Judith Ann Ingalls of Haverhill; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, William A. Ingalls Jr. of Plaistow; a special friend, Helen Johnson of Haverhill; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m., and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery, Haverhill.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Carol M. Woloss

YORK HARBOR, Maine - Carol M. Woloss, 52, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, in York Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born May 4, 1949, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the professional dance team of Alfredo and Bertha Cano.

She attended St. Mary's Elementary School and Elizabeth Seton High School in Chicago. She attended the University of Madrid and received her degree in Spanish and secondary education from Quincy College, Quincy, Ill.

Mrs. Woloss was corporate vice president of human resources for Nutramax, a multi-divisional health care corporation, and began two businesses, Garrett-Evan Associates, Inc., a national search consultant firm, and Munchies, a specialty market and delicatessen in York Harbor, Maine.

She was a member of the SHRM State of Massachusetts Council; founder of the Haverhill Manufacturer's Roundtable and the Human Resource Forum in Billerica, Mass.

She was an active fund-raiser for St. Jude Children's Hospital.

She loved animals and enjoyed sewing, decorating, arts and crafts, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and especially dancing.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Woloss of York Harbor; and one sister, Raquel Bernstein of Boca Raton, Fla.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday in St. Michael Church, Exeter. Burial was in Exeter Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.

Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Howe M. Stoddard Jr.

NOTTINGHAM - Howe M. Stoddard Jr., 67, of 163 Stevens Hill Road, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.

He was born April 17, 1934, in Boston, the son of the late Howe M. and Edna (Andrews) Stoddard. He moved to the Seacoast area when his parents bought a local cabin business.

He attended local schools and was a graduate of Amesbury (Mass.) High School.

Mr. Stoddard joined the U.S. Navy in 1952, the U.S. Air Force a few years later and then the U.S. Army, retiring after 21 years of service. He spent two tours of duty in Vietnam and received two Bronze Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, an Air Force Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Following his retirement from the service he worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in precision measurement electronics for 20 years. He was also active in the commercial fishing business for more than 20 years.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ, North Hampton; a member of the American Legion; and an avid golfer.

He enjoyed traveling and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol A. (Chauncey) Stoddard; five daughters, Robin S. Comeau of Hampton, Diana L. Stoddard of Lee, Jill E. Stoddard of Nottingham, Mary Anne Stoddard of North Hampton, and Angela M. Cianci of Kittery, Maine; 10 grandchildren; and one brother, Douglas B. Stoddard of Seabrook.

Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at 11 a.m. in United Church of Christ, 295 Atlantic Ave., North Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cam Neely Foundation, 30 Winter St., 2nd floor, Boston, MA 02108.

Assistance with the arrangements was by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Alfons Winter

EXETER - Alfons Winter, 97, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.

He was born June 23, 1904, in Marbach/Villingen, Germany, the son of the late Samson Wintermantel and Anna Remile. He became a U.S. Citizen May 8, 1933. He had resided in Mountainside and Brick, N.J., before moving to Exeter.

He was educated in Germany and Newark, N.J., receiving a certificate of merit in painting and wood engraving from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts.

Mr. Winter was a self-employed painter and artist. He especially enjoyed mural painting in homes. At the age of 78 he began doing wood carvings of birds and animals.

He attended First United Methodist Church in Amesbury, Mass.

He is survived by one daughter and her husband, Dolores J. and Theodore Morse Jr. of South Hampton; and two grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 25 years, Nellie Henkels, and his second wife, also of 25 years, Hilde Karcher; and one brother, Eugene Wintermantel.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. in First United Methodist Church of Amesbury, 140 Main St., Amesbury. Interment will be in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, N.J., at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Amesbury, 140 Main St., Amesbury, MA 01913 or to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Simplicity Burial & Cremation Services, Newburyport, Mass.

Dorothy M. Zimmerman

EXETER - Dorothy Mae Zimmerman, 75, of Beech Hill Road, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born July 17, 1926, in Andover, the daughter of the late Raymond and Belle (Rivers) Sawtelle. She had resided in Manchester before coming to Exeter 44 years ago.

She was a 1944 graduate of Concord High School and a 1947 graduate of the Laconia School of Nursing.

Mrs. Zimmerman was the maternal health care coordinator at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover, retiring in 1998. She was previously employed for many years with the Exeter Area Visiting Nurses Association.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Francis A. "Pinky" Zimmerman of Exeter; three sons, Gary F. Zimmerman of Leominster, Mass., Glen M. Zimmerman of Exeter and Gregg Zimmerman of Rochester; two daughters, Janice Cassavaugh and Joyce Boxold, both of Exeter; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Madeline Emerson of Franklin and Barbara Brown of Lunenburg, Mass.; two brothers, George Sawtelle of Pittsfield and Verne Sawtelle of Concord; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in St. Michael Church, Exeter. Burial was in Exeter Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Doris E. Mullen

NEWMARKET - Doris E. Mullen, 87, formerly of Forest Street, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Riverside Rest Home, Dover, after a lengthy illness.

She was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Newmarket, the daughter of Herbert and Edna (Pariseau) Philbrick. She lived most of her life in Newmarket.

She was a graduate of Newmarket High School and MacIntosh College, Dover.

Mrs. Mullen was a bookkeeper with the Newmarket school system for 15 years. She previously worked in the office at Rockingham Shoe Company in Newmarket.

She was a communicant of St. Mary Church; a member of the Catholic Daughters of America; the Newmarket Women's Club; a volunteer at the Newmarket Public Library; and she worked on the voter check list.

The widow of John F. Mullen, who died in 1968, she is survived by one son, Donald K. Mullen of Dover; one daughter, Janet R. Tegan of Dover; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert J. Philbrick of South Berwick, Maine, and Richard Philbrick of Schenectady, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one brother, Leonard Philbrick, who died in 2000.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday in St. Mary Church, Newmarket, with the Rev. Robert Biron officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

Memorial donations may be made to the Newmarket Public Library.

Arrangements were by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket.

Dorothy L. Pleadwell

EXETER - Dorothy L. Pleadwell, 90, of 9 Crawford Ave., died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, in Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, after a period of failing health.

She was born May 12, 1911, in Georgetown, Mass., the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Brockelbank) Chase, and lived most of her life in Georgetown before moving to Exeter in 1990.

She was a graduate of Groveland (Mass.) High School.

Mrs. Pleadwell worked for the former Fifth Avenue Shoe Co., Haverhill, Mass., for many years.

She is survived by one son, Norman A. Pleadwell of Exeter; one daughter, Faye A. Lord of Exeter, with whom she made her home; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one son, George E. Pleadwell, Jr.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Groveland.

Assistance with the arrangements was by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.
