Sylvia Bemis

MONTICELLO, Fla. - Sylvia Bemis, 77, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, in Tallahassee, Fla.

She was born in Epping and had resided in Monticello since 1988.

Mrs. Bemis was a homemaker and was a member of First Baptist Church of Monticello.

The widow of Gardner Bemis, she is survived by one son, Wilder "Hoppy" Bemis of Monticello; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lota Glidden and Mary Fenstermaker, both of Epping.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Taska Hutchinson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday in Beggs Funeral Home, Monticello. Burial will be in Epping at a later date.

Margaret Bernius

BRADFORD, Mass. - Margaret (Thornley) Bernius, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, in Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston.

She was born June 17, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Charles F. Thornley and Margaret E. Morrish. She moved to Haverhill, Mass., in 1946.

She was a graduate of John Jay High School, Brooklyn.

Mrs. Bernius was employed in the accounting department at New York Telephone while in New York and then was employed part time for the former Maguire's.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Haverhill, and its St. Elizabeth's Guild. She was a longtime member of the former Hale Hospital Auxiliary, Haverhill, and was a former volunteer at the American Red Cross.

The widow of George E. Bernius, her husband of 53 years who died in 1996, she is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet A. and William F. Moloney of Chelmsford, Mass., Carol R. and Jack L. Hodges of North Hampton and Katheryn A. Bernius of Sebastapol, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 7:45 a.m. in the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 So. Main St., Bradford, followed by a service at 8:45 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church, White Street, Haverhill. Private burial will be in Bourne National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Richie McFarland Children's Center, 11 Sandy Point Road, Stratham, NH 03885 or to the Auditory Verbal Communication Center, 544 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930.

Barbara B. Desroches

EPPING - Barbara Blanche Desroches, 88, of Old Hedding Road, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.

She was born April 1, 1913, in Hampton, the daughter of the late Arthur and Alice (Dench) Fogg. She had resided in Newmarket before moving to Epping in 1959.

Mrs. Desroches was a cementer at Sam Smith Shoe Shop in Newmarket.

She was a member of TOPS No. 35 N.H.; the Rebekah Lodge of Epping and Kingston; and the Grange in Newton. She was know by many as the "Sunshine Lady" and enjoyed making crafts.

The widow of Louis J. Desroches, who died in 1970, she is survived by two sons, Peter I. Desroches of Cripple Creek, Colo., and James R. Desroches of Epping; one daughter, Mary O. Desroches-Wilson of Barrington; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one son, Donald P. Desroches, who died in 1996; one grandson, Mark Desroches, who died in August; one brother, Winslow Fogg; and two sisters, Olive Bernier and Evelyn Toleman.

Funeral services were held Monday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Burial was in Exeter Cemetery.

Hilda B. Diemand

NEWMARKET - Hilda B. Diemand, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Exeter Healthcare.

She was born in Velbert, Germany, and came to the United States in 1939, settling in New Britain, Conn.

Mrs. Diemand was a member of St. Maurice Church and the Shuttle Meadow Club in New Britain and was a volunteer at New Britain Hospital and at the Art Museum.

The widow of Clemens J. Diemand, she is survived by one son, Peter J. Diemand of Saddle River, N.J.; one daughter, Marion Arkell of Brentwood; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Cemetery Chapel, New Britain.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Auxiliary Gift Chest, c/o New Britain Hospital, 100 Grand St., New Britain, CT 06050 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Arrangements are by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

Elizabeth A. French

STRATHAM - Elizabeth A. French, 66, of High Street, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston, after a brief illness.

She was born June 25, 1935, in Exeter, the daughter of the late Fred and Mildred (Tate) Chick and was a lifelong resident of Stratham.

Mrs. French was a nurse at Exeter Hospital for 35 years.

She was an auxiliary member of the American Legion Post No. 67 of Newmarket.

She enjoyed crocheting, coin collecting and playing bingo.

The widow of Donald A. French, her husband of 40 years who died in 1995, she is survived by two daughters, Donna Muehlen of Maine and Linda Garson of Oklahoma; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Congregational Church Cemetery, Stratham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Resource Center, 333 Borthwick Ave., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Sally L. Guy

SEABROOK - Sally L Guy, 64, of 35 Allison Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born Oct. 16, 1937, in Newburyport, Mass., the daughter of the late Herbert J. and Mary T. (Mahoney) Sanborn and had been a Seabrook resident for most of her life.

She attended Newburyport High School.

Mrs. Guy was employed by Employee Benefit Plan Administration of Hampton and had previously worked for the Inn of Hampton, Greenleaf Nursing Home in Newburyport, and Western Electric in North Andover, Mass.

She was an avid gardener and collector of dolls and music boxes.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, William J. Guy of Seabrook; one son, George R. Staples of Seabrook; three daughters, Barbara J. Brinkman, Mary E. Fullerton and Lee-Anne Gerrish, all of Seabrook; three stepsons, William J. Guy Jr. of Hampton, Robert W. Guy of Seabrook and Kevin M. Guy of Exeter; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Betty Bychock of Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook.

Memorial donations may be made to the Portsmouth/Derry/Salem Home Health and Hospice Services, 95 Albany St., Unit 11, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Virgil H. Miller

HAMPTON - Virgil H. Miller, 79, of 61 Seabury Condominiums, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at the Exeter Hospital.

He was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Oakland Township, Venango County, Pa., the son of the late Frank and Julia (Jefford) Miller.

Mr. Miller was a graduate of Oil City, Pa., High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a first lieutenant with the Army Air Corps and was a B-17 Fortress pilot with the 486th Bomb Group Association. He was the recipient of the European-African, Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon with two stars as well as the air medal with five oak leaf clusters.

He owned and operated the Miller Insulation Corporation of Hampton from 1964 until his retirement in 1984. Prior to this he worked for the Hinman Asbestos Corporation of Boston, and before entering the service, worked for American Viscose Corporation of Meadville, Pa.

After his retirement he worked for the former Eatery Restaurant for 10 years and later Galley Hatch Catering Services.

He was a former member of the Associated Builders and Contractors Association.

He was the husband of Jacqueline A. (Porter) Miller for 28 years.

In addition to his wife, family members include six children, Gary Miller of Wenham, Mass., Joetta Kirk of Little Compton, R.I., Patricia Harrington of Hampton, Timothy Foster of Lanzhou, China, Julie McNaughten of Rockville, Md., Diane Dietrich of Lowell, Mass.; a special daughter-in-law Carman Miller of North Hampton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Miller of Greenville, Pa.; one sister, Ila Albert of Titusville, Pa.; nieces and nephews.

Barbara P. Healey

MARLBOROUGH - Barbara P. Healey, 57, of 166 Thatcher Hill Road, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at her home following a period of failing health.

She was born July 30, 1944, in Keene, the daughter of Linn M. and Beatrice E. (Kenney) Parker and had resided in Litchfield, Candia and Pembroke prior to moving back to the Keene/Marlborough area.

She was a 1962 graduate of Keene High School.

Mrs. Healey had been employed in the business office of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic in Keene for 19 years. She had worked at the Blue Cross Blue Shield office in Bedford while living in that area.

She attended United Church of Christ and was a very active member of the Greater Keene Softball Leagues as a player, manager and scorekeeper.

She is survived by her husband, Michael J. Healey Sr. of Marlborough; two sons, Charles W. Knowles of Seabrook and Arthur M. Knowles of West Swanzey; eight grandchildren; her stepfather, Harry Sargent; two stepsons, Michael J. Healey Jr. of Keene and Eric S. Healey of Concord; one stepdaughter, Heather A. Fuller of Keene; one brother, David L. Parker of Marlow; a half sister, Harriett P. Toale of Carmel, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her mother, Beatrice Sargent, who died Dec. 20; and one half sister, Linda Newell.

Funeral services were held Thursday in the Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Keene. Spring burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Marlborough.

Geraldo Cinfo

EXETER - Geraldo Cinfo, 76, of Friar Tuck Drive, formerly of Nichols Avenue, Newmarket, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.

He was born June 27, 1925, in Newmarket, the son of Peter and Flora (Bilodeau) Cinfo and had resided in Newmarket for most of his life moving to Exeter in 1987.

Mr. Cinfo was a die setter for Kingston-Warren Corp., Newfields, retiring in 1987. Following his retirement he worked as a grocery bagger for Shaw's Supermarket in Stratham.

He was a communicant of St. Mary Church, Newmarket; a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post No. 67; Lamprey Aerie No. 1934, Fraternal Order of Eagles; and the American Citizens Club of Polish Descent, all in Newmarket.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois (Pierce) Cinfo of Exeter; two brothers, Leo Cinfo of Newmarket and Norman Cinfo of Stark; two sisters, Toni Romero and Rita Russell, both of Newmarket; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Newmarket. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

Winifred Coelln

EXETER - Winifred Coelln, 94, formerly of Ann's Lane, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at Langdon Place of Exeter after a period of failing health.

She was born July 8, 1907, in Boston, the daughter of the late Timothy and Honorah (Guinevan) Kellard and had resided in Exeter for more than 40 years.

Mrs. Coelln was a secretary at United Shoe and Machine and at the Essex Group.

The widow of Albert Coelln, who died in 1977, she is survived by one nephew, Dr. Robert Collard of Danvers, Mass.; and five grand-nephews.

Graveside services were held Thursday in Exeter Cemetery, Exeter.

Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital Burn Center, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.

Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.
