Richard C. Marvin

PORTSMOUTH - Richard C. Marvin, 88, of 31 Beechstone, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001.

He was born Aug. 15, 1913, in Arlington, Mass., the son of the late Louie G. and Louise A. (Bedo) Marvin. He resided many years in Lexington, Mass., moving to Hampton in the mid-1980s and to Portsmouth in 1998.

He was a 1932 graduate of Somerville (Mass.) High School.

Mr. Marvin was a chemical sales representative in the pulp and paper industry, working for the Boston office of Stein Hall & Company for 33 years. Following his retirement he was a con-sultant for the Web Company of Massachusetts.

The widower of Amy L. (Bergstrom) Marvin, who died in 1996, he is survived by two daughters, Karen M. McKinney of Dudley, Mass., and Lesley M. Sloane of North Hampton; four grandchil-dren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Carlson of Holly Hill, Fla., and Edith Cos-grove of Arlington; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater N.H. Chapter, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord, NH 03301-4059.

Phyllis E. Bassett

HAMPTON FALLS - Phyllis E. Bassett, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, after a period of failing health.

She was born May 8, 1921, in Ossipee, the daughter of the late Philip and Dorothy (Fall) Nute. She resided in Rye from 1949 until 1962 when she moved to Nottingham. She came to Hampton Falls in 1987 and had lived in Brentwood for three years. She had wintered in Silver Springs, Fla., for several years.

Mrs. Bassett was a bookkeeper for Allied & N.H. Gas Co. in Portsmouth for more than 20 years.

She attended Hampton Falls First Baptist Church; was a member of the Exeter Walking Club; and a volunteer with Exeter RSVP.

The widow of Alfred Bassett, who died in 1981, she is survived by two sons and their wives, Alfred and Sylvia Bassett of Hampton Falls and David and Judith Bassett of Milton, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Thursday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter, with the Rev. Kenneth Lawrence officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery, Hampton Falls.

Richard G. Baybutt

NEW HARBOR, Maine - Richard G. Baybutt, 76, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at his home after a sudden illness.

He was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Boston, the son of Richard S. and Gladys (Hett) Baybutt coming to Exeter in 1951 before moving to New Harbor in 1989.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific. He fought in several battles, including the Battle of Midway.

Mr. Baybutt worked in the retail auto business, many of those years in dealer management. Following his retirement he worked part time at Hanna’s Garage in New Harbor.

He was a longtime member of the Exeter Lions Club; the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Martha (Thompson) Baybutt of New Harbor; three sons, Scott T. Baybutt of Peabody, Mass., and Mark D. Baybutt and Richard K. Baybutt, both of Brentwood; and four grandchildren.

Services and burial will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Bristol First Responders, c/o Jeri Pendleton, New Harbor, Maine, 04554.

Arrangements are by the Strong Funeral Home, Damariscotta, Maine.

Richard J. Bolton

RAYMOND - Richard J. Bolton, 84, of Coolidge Way, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at his home after a period of failing health.

He was born Sept. 16, 1917, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late Ralph and Veronica (Kopela) Bolton. He had resided in Hampton Falls before moving to Raymond 18 years ago. He summered in Brownfield, Maine.

Mr. Bolton was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for more than 30 years, first as a machinist and after the war as a mechanic.

He was an active member of the U.S. Army Reserves in Portsmouth and was past president of the Hampton Falls Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed carpentry and gunsmithing.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elinore (Brown) Bolton of Raymond; one son, Myron Bolton of Raymond; two daughters, Elaine Curtis of Exeter and Lee Prigge of Danville, Ken.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Allen of New Jersey.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, On the Common, Raymond.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Neil Iverson officiating. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.

Vera Shepperd

EXETER - Vera Shepperd, 96, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at SunBridge of Exeter.

She was born June 4, 1905, in Hull, England, the daughter of Arthur and Mehitable (Walker) Sergeant and came to the United States as a child. She was raised in Mount Vernon, N.Y., and had resided in Hampton Falls before moving to Exeter.

Mrs. Shepperd was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, Exeter.

The widow of Clinton Shepperd, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, Joan and Lee Topp of Hampton Falls, with whom she made her home; one son, Walter Shepperd of Syracuse, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Private memorial services will be held in New York at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hampton Falls Free Library.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Richard J. Broderick

HAMPTON - Richard J. Broderick, 62, of Hampton, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in Elliot Hospital, Manchester.

He was born June 10, 1939, in Manchester, the son of Attorney J. Vincent and Mrs. Frances L. (Mahoney) Broderick.

He was educated in Manchester schools and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Mr. Broderick was a lineman for Nynex.

He was a member of the League of 1000 Men of the Monastery of the Precious Blood and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local No. 2320. He was a former coach for Manchester East Little League; was formerly on the board of directors of Campfire Inc.; and had recently been on the board of directors for the North Beach Condominium Association in Hampton.

Mr. Broderick was a communicant of St. Joseph Cathedral, Manchester, and had been active with the parish's chapter of the Boy Scouts of America.

He enjoyed boating and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ruth A. (Goodwin) Broderick of Hampton; two sons, Richard J. Broderick Jr. and Patrick S. Broderick, both of Manchester; one daughter, Alice Birk of Hooksett; five granddaughters; one brother, Attorney James V. Broderick of Manchester; two sisters, Louise Welch and Virginia Lang, both of Manchester; one aunt, Rita Stuart of Manchester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday in St. Joseph Cathedral. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.

Memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of N.H., 66 Hanover St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Norma I. Chisholm

NORTH HAMPTON - Norma Irene Chisholm, 86, formerly of Atlantic Avenue, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at the McCoy Home for the Elderly in Newport.

She was born Feb. 16, 1915, in Claremont, the daughter of Orson P. and Sadie (Lombard) Nichols. She resided in North Hampton for 45 years, returning to Claremont in 1999.

She was a 1932 graduate of Charlestown High School, where she was the class salutatorian, and a 1938 graduate of Keene Normal School with a degree as an elementary school teacher.

Mrs. Chisholm taught in North Hampton, Hampton Falls, Exeter and Stratham. Before her marriage in 1954 she had taught in Claremont, Westmoreland and Littleton.

She was a member of United Church of Christ, North Hampton; a 60-year member of the Grange involved in local, state and national levels; and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

The widow of James A. Chisholm, who died in 1983, she is survived by three sisters, Lillian French of South Acworth, Marion Forest of Liberty, N.Y., and Thelma Ferland of Claremont; one brother, Herbert Nichols of Claremont; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Vera LeClair, Doris Nichols and Nathalie Nichols; and one brother, Everett Nichols.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in United Church of Christ, 295 Atlantic Ave., North Hampton. Private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Rita M. French

BRENTWOOD - Rita M. French, 81, formerly of Old Nottingham Road, Epping, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 28, 1920, in Somerville, Mass., the daughter of the late Timothy T. and Beatrice M. (Smith) Donovan. She resided in Arlington, Mass., for many years, moving to Epping in 1969.

She was a graduate of Arlington High School.

Mrs. French was an administrative assistant at Epping Elementary School for many years.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Epping; a member of the Garden Club in Epping; and volunteered at the Rockingham County Nursing Home and Exeter Hospital.

She is survived by five sons, John E. French Jr., of Pierre, S.D., James R. French of Mason, David R. French of Grafton, Mass., Dennis J. French of Candia and Steven N. French of Epping; eight grandchildren; and one sister, M. Madeline Donovan of Manchester.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday in St. Joseph Church, Epping. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord, NH 03301-4059.

Arrangements were by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

Robert E. Grant

NORTH HAMPTON - Robert E. Grant, 70, formerly of North Hampton, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at his daughter's home in North Miami Beach, Fla.

He was the husband of the late Natalie A. (Thomas) Grant, who died in 1984.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Frank J. Kosiba

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. - Frank J. Kosiba Sr., 92, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in Hampton.

He was born Nov. 14, 1909, in Chicopee, Mass., the son of the late Antoni and Magdalena (Gibadlo) Kosiba. He resided in Belchertown from 1953 until 1999 when he moved to East Kingston.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was the recipient of the European-African Mid East Camp Ribbon with five service stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Kosiba was a manager in the field service division of the Employment Security for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Springfield, Mass., retiring in 1974 after 20 years of service.

He was a life member of the American Legion Post No. 353, Chicopee, where he was a past commander and had served as the veteran's agent for Belchertown. He was a longtime active member of the Belchertown Senior Center; a team leader for the Quabbinaire's Walking Club; and a member of the Belchertown Stroke Club.

Mr. Kosiba was a communicant of St. Francis Church and was active with many of the church's functions, including the annual barbecue.

He was the husband of the ltae Ruby M. (Poitras) Kosiba. She died in 1997.

He is survived by one son and his wife, Frank Jr. and Bonnie Kosiba of East Kingston, with whom he made his home; two grandsons; one sister, Lena M. Piacentini of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, Walter Kosiba, and one sister, Frances Wozniak.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St., (Route 202) Belchertown, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Church. Burial will be in South Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Church Building Fund, 10 Park St., Belchertown, MA 01007.
