Margaret C. Sherry

WARWICK, R.I. - Margaret Claire (Conway) Sherry, 87, of 272 Sea Meadow Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, in Kent County Memorial Hospital, Warwick.

She was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Cumberland, R.I., the daughter of the late John and Julia (Casey) Conway, and had resided in Portsmouth, R.I.

Mrs. Sherry was a secretary for the former Berkshire Hathaway Co. of Manville, R.I., from 1931 until 1940.

She was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church, Portsmouth, and was a member of St. James Church, West Warwick where she was past president of the Mothers Club of the church. She was a volunteer in many school and church activities.

The widow of John W. Sherry, she is survived by one son, James T. Sherry of Boulder, Colo.; three daughters, Claire Duva of No. Kingstown, R.I., Ann Warnock of Exeter and Patricia McCarthy of Portsmouth; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Conway and Eugene Conway, both of Cumberland, R.I.; three sisters, Rita Moran Byrnes of Cumberland, Mary Hayes of Westwood, Mass., and Barbara Brown of Rutland, VT.,

She was predeceased by one daughter, Mary M. Dingwell; one brother, John Conway; and one sister, Dorothy Goodier.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday in St. Barnabas Church, Portsmouth. Burial was in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown, R.I.

Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Rhode Island, 1007 Watermen Ave., East Providence, RI 02914.

Arrangements were by the Connors Funeral Home, Portsmouth.

Albert H. Splittorff

DANBURY, Conn. - Albert H. Splittorff, 93, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Harborside-Glen Hill Healthcare, Danbury.

He was born July 11, 1907, in Stamford, Conn., the son of the late Einar J. and Anna Marie (Jensen) Splittorff. He resided in Darien, Conn., for 33 years. Following his retirement he moved to Hampton where he lived for 27 years.

He was a graduate of Stamford High School, the American College of Banking and Rutgers University School of Banking in 1949.

Mr. Splittorff retired in 1972 as vice president of Union Trust Co. after 46 years in the Darien main office. He began his banking career in 1926 with the Home Bank and Trust Co. as a bookkeeper. He was appointed assistant trust officer in 1931.

He was treasurer of the Salvation Army, the Kiwanis Club, the Darien Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Darien High School Advisory Committee, the R.T.M. and the United Fund. He was a member of the Woodway Country Club and the Tokeneke Club.

He was a member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church and the Hampton United Methodist Church.

The widower of Helen Splittorff, his wife of 62 years who died in 1999, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Karen S. and Gregory M. Daignault of Wilton, Conn., and Kathy S. and Malcolm K. Mackenzie Jr. of Chester, Conn.; one son, Kurt A. Splittorff of Hampton; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, William Splittorff of Norwalk, Conn.; one sister, Ellen Eike of Quakertown, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at 10 a.m. in Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien, Conn.

Memorial donations may be made to Harborside-Glenn Hill Healthcare, 1 Glen Hill Road, Danbury, CT 06811; the Salvation Army; Noroton Presbyterian Church; or Hampton United Methodist Church.

Charles W. Call

WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Charles W. Call, 79, formerly of Exeter, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Brooke Nursing Center, Stafford, Va., after a lengthy illness.

He was born Nov. 23, 1921, in Exeter, the son of Arthur J. and Mabel (Lane) Call Sr.

He was a 1938 graduate of Exeter High School and a 1941 graduate of McIntosh Business School, Dover.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, stationed in the Philippines and was the recipient of many medals, including the Bronze Star.

Mr. Call was employed with the Defense Department at the Pentagon retiring after more than 30 years of service.

He was an avid sports fan, and had played with the Exeter Collegians Basketball team and on various baseball and softball teams in the Exeter area. He coached little league baseball and basketball in Woodbridge.

He is survived by two sons, Alan Call of Aylett, Va., and Stephen Call of Stafford; one daughter and her husband, Pamela and Joe Hunt of Hanover, Va.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Whelden of Osterville, Mass., and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur J. Call Jr., and Dr. Russell J. Call; and three sisters, Ethel Metcalfe, Nellie Young and Dorothy Draper.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. in the downstairs vestry of First Baptist Church, Exeter, with the Rev. Jamie Moynihan officiating. Burial will be in Quantico Military Cemetery, Quantico, Va., at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 2 Spring St., Exeter, NH 03833.

Assistance with the arrangements was provided by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Walter A. Doyle

RYE - Walter A. Doyle 85, of 795 Washington Road, formerly of Perkins Road, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at his home.

He was born June 25, 1915, in East Boston, the son of the late Dominick J. and Mary A. (Kearns) Doyle. He resided in Medford, Mass., and had been a summer resident of Rye Beach since 1968 moving here permanently in 1984. He had wintered in Pompano Beach, Fla., since 1985.

He was a 1933 graduate of Medford High School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Doyle was a bus driver for the MBTA, retiring in 1980 after 24 years of service. He had previously worked in the shipping department for First National Stores in Somerville, Mass., from 1934 until 1941 and from 1946 until 1956. He was a member of the Carman's Union Local 589 in Boston.

He was a communicant and Eucharistic minister at St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach, and a member of the Men's Club. He was a former member of St. Joseph Church, Medford, and a former member of the Corondelet Fathers Club of Framingham, Mass.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Loretta M. (Burgoyne) Doyle; two daughters, Sister Mary Anne Doyle, C.S.J., of Roslindale, Mass., and Kathleen Hannon and her husband Thomas of Rockland, Mass.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary L. Doyle of Rockland, Mass., and Anne Henderson of Rock Hill, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in St. Theresa Church.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 637 Cambridge St., Brighton, MA 02135 or to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02515.

Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Barbara A. Grabowski

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Barbara A. Grabowski, 57, of 370 Amostown Road, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Seacoast Health Center, Hampton.

She was born Dec. 1, 1943, in Dorchester, Mass., the daughter of the late William and Isabell (Thompson) Furber. She had resided in Raymond for 19 years moving to West Springfield in 1998.

She was a graduate of Dorchester High School.

Mrs. Grabowski worked for the former Bailey Corporation in Seabrook for many years.

She is survived by one son, Craig Grabowski of Lisbon; one daughter, Cheryl M. St. Martin of West Springfield; two grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Furber of South Boston.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Donald J. Langley

AMESBURY, Mass. - Donald James Langley, 84, of 110 Market St., died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Harborside Healthcare Center, Amesbury.

He was born Sept. 7, 1916, at Hampton Beach, the son of the late Edmund and Mildred A. (Holbrook) Langley.

He attended Hampton Academy, Hampton, Cushing Academy, Ashburnham, Mass., and Boston University, majoring in hotel administration. He was a 1971 graduate of Realtors Institute, GRI.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a first lieutenant after completing Air Force Officer's School and was in charge of air/sea rescue in the West Indies from 1943 until 1945, when he received commendation as commanding general.

Mr. Langley began in the real estate business in 1966 becoming a real estate broker and operating his own realty office until his retirement. He had previously owned and operated Langley Motors in Newburyport from 1945 until 1950 when he built and operated Yankee Village Motel in Hampton from 1950 to 1960. He then managed Meadowbrook Motor Inn, Portsmouth, and owned and operated DeJay's Gifts & Casual Wear from 1959 until 1964.

He was a member of the Massachusetts Board of Realtors, serving as state director in 1973; a former member of the Essex North Board of Realtors serving as treasurer from 1968-1970; a member and director of the Amesbury Rotary Club and the Newburyport and the Portsmouth Rotary Clubs; was a director of the Amesbury Co-Operative Bank; director and fund chairman of the Amesbury Y.M.C.A; a member of the Amesbury Industrial Foundation; the Amesbury Planning Board; the Amesbury Historical Commission and a director of the Bartlett Museum and Bartlett Cemetery.

He had been Republican finance chairman of Amesbury for eight years and Republican Town Chairman for eight years.

He served as chairman of the Recreation and Tourist Committee of the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce and was a former vice president of the New Hampshire Hotel Association, director of the New Hampshire Motel Association, and was director of the Portsmouth Yacht Club, serving as chairman of its building committee.

He was a member of Warren Lodge, A.F.& A.M. of Amesbury; Bektash Temple Shrine of Concord; and the Massachusetts Consistory in Boston.

He co-authored a book with Holly J. Blake in 1999, titled "Tahiti Bound" which depicts his voyage from Gloucester, Mass., to Tahiti in 1938-1939.

He is survived by his wife, Margery (Sargent) Langley; three sons, Donald J. Langley Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fla., Glen F. Langley of Freeport, Maine, and Christian T. Wyman of Amesbury; seven grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth W. Langley of Hampton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Meredith Ann Wyman, who died in 1966; one brother, Edmund Langley; and one sister, Irene Teague. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Paul C. Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury.

Warren Lodge will conduct Masonic services Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in First Congregational Church, Winnacunnet Road, Hampton. Burial will be in Bartlett Cemetery, Amesbury.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Peter G. Lesiczka

HAVERHILL, Mass. - Peter G. Lesiczka, 75, of 96 Corliss Hill Road, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in Holy Family Hospital, Methuen, Mass.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Haverhill and attended Haverhill public schools and the former Haverhill Trade School.

Mr. Lesiczka was a dairy farmer all of his life at the Lesiczka Family Farm. After retiring he raised cattle, did some haying, and was associated with his son in the operation of Wally's Vegetables.

He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Haverhill, and a member of the Massachusetts Farm Bureau.

He enjoyed polka dancing.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary (Secorsky) Lesiczka; two sons and their wives, Walter P. and Stephanie Lesiczka of Haverhill and David R. and Jonie Lesiczka of Seabrook and Haverhill; one daughter and her husband, Bonnie and Daniel Mansfield of Haverhill; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Bolex Lesiczka and Joseph Lesiczka, both of Haverhill; one sister, Agnes Briggs of Naugatuck, Conn., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, Route 121A, Plaistow.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the funeral home followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Haverhill.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Grace R. Pevear

OVIEDO, Fla. - Grace Rita Pevear, 87, formerly of Hampton, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at her home in Oviedo.

She was born April 29, 1913, in Cambridge, Mass. She resided in Hampton for many years, moving to Oviedo in 1999 after spending many winters in Florida.

She attended schools in Cambridge.

Mrs. Pevear and her first husband owned and operated the former Seagate Motel at Hampton Beach. She also ran a coffee shop in Exeter and cared for many foster children.

She was a former communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton; and a member and past president of the Ladies Union of First Congregational Church, Hampton.

She is survived by two sons, Chester J. Cole of Winter Park, Fla., and Everett N. Cole of Hudson; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Hugelman of Gilmanton.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Everett Cole; and her second husband, Eben R. Pevear, who died in 1989.

Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will follow in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
