Joan B. Hawkins

HAMPTON - Joan B. Hawkins, 65, of Hampton Towne Estates, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001.

Arrangements were incomplete at press time and will be announced by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Carolyn F. Keller

EPPING - Carolyn F. Keller, 79, of 242 Exeter Road, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Portsmouth the daughter of the late William F. and Hazel (Staples) McIntyre and had resided in Epping for 43 years.

She was a 1939 graduate of Portsmouth High School.

Mrs. Keller was the bookkeeper at W.S. Goodrich of Epping, retiring in 1989 after 27 years of service. During World War II she worked in the supply department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and before her marriage at Granite State Insurance Co.

She was a former member of the Epping Friends of the Library.

She enjoyed reading, stamp collecting, gardening, sewing and yard sales.

The widow of Stafford Keller, her husband of 44 years who died in 1994, she is survived by two sons, Richard T. Keller and John M. Keller, both of Epping; one daughter, Pamela Kasnet of Exeter; two grandchildren; one sister, Patricia DeiRossi of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Saturday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 6 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Wayne VanGundy officiating.

Walda E. McGean

BRENTWOOD - Walda Elizabeth McGean, 65, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at her home.

She was born April 7, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Walter and Adele (Ashlander) Hehner and had resided in Brentwood for the past 30 years.

Mrs. McGean was a homemaker and an avid gardener.

She is survived by her husband, James H. McGean of Brentwood; one son, James W. McGean of Westminster, Calif.; two daughters, Catherine A. Simonelli of Broad Brook, Conn., and Jennifer D. Mason of Dover; and two granddaughters.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Exeter. Spring burial will be in Brentwood Cemetery, Brentwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Brian P. O'Neill

SALISBURY, Mass. - Brian P. O'Neill, 27, of 34 Meaders Lane, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport, Mass.

He was born July 9, 1973, in Portsmouth, the son of Raymond F. O'Neill of Salisbury and Linda M. (Smith) O'Neill of Vero Beach, Fla., and was raised in Salisbury.

He was a graduate of Triton Regional High School.

Mr. O'Neill was a cable linesman for United Utility of Salisbury and had previously been employed by Dinsmore Communications Corp.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his friend, Samantha Kesler of Rowley, Mass.; one brother, Brendan O'Neill of Los Angeles, Calif.; his maternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Smith of Winter Springs, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Alice R. Penfield

EPPING - Alice R. Penfield, 72, of Ladds Lane, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at her daughter's home in Lee.

She was born July 2, 1928, in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of James H. and Ruth (Stockhaus) Antell and had resided in Epping since 1971.

Mrs. Penfield was an active member of the Emissaries of Divine Light for 31 years.

She enjoyed gardening.

The widow of Ralph Penfield who died in 1979, she is survived by three sons, John Penfield of Candia, David Penfield of Derry and Mark Penfield of Indianapolis, Ind.; one daughter, Penny Boucher of Lee; four grandchildren; two brothers, James Antell of Arizona and Joseph Antell of Epping; one sister, Sandra Entrup of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Assistance with the arrangements is by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket.

David F. Wood

HAMPTON - David F. Wood, 53, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in Beverly Hospital, Beverly, Mass., after being stricken ill at his garage in Topsfield, Mass.

He was born Oct. 22, 1947, in Cambridge, Mass., the son of the late George A. and Marjorie (Johnson) Wood and had resided in Kingston before moving to Hampton.

He was a graduate of Salem (Mass.) Vocational Technical High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a specialist 5th grade.

Mr. Wood co-owned and operated Star Service in Topsfield where he was an auto mechanic for the past five years and had previously owned and operated D&E Forklift Co. in Lawrence, Mass., for 20 years.

He was a member of the Kingston Veteran's Club.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ellen (Harper) Wood; one son, David G. Wood of No. Chelmsford, Mass.; one daughter and her husband, Paula and Warren Bain of Epping; one granddaughter; two brothers, Robert G. Wood of Cambridge, Vt., and Gerald A. Wood of Kingston; one sister, Sandra Getchell of Danvers, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in First Congregational Church, 6 Church St., Kingston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

Assistance with the arrangements was by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

Elizabeth M. Longazel

RAYMOND - Elizabeth May Longazel, 67, of Wight St., died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, after a lengthy illness.

She was born May 31, 1933, in Newport, R.I., the daughter of the late John G. and Elizabeth (Clinton) Bradfield.

Mrs. Longazel and her late husband, who was a U.S. Army recruiter, traveled all over the country until 1964 when they moved to Nashua and shortly after settled in Raymond.

Mrs. Longazel was a member of the Maple Wheadon Post Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 4479 of Raymond.

The widow of John Longazel, who died in 1973, she is survived by three sons, John Longazel and Dale Longazel, both of Ft. Worth, Tex., and Michael Longazel of Newport; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, John Bradfield and Gilbert Bradfield, both of Newport and William Bradfield of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and her companion of many years, George "Skidder" Brown of Raymond.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, On the Common, Raymond. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Raymond Ambulance Fund, 1 Scribner Road, Raymond, NH 03077.

Reuben J. Newell

RAYMOND - Reuben J. Newell, 2, son of Gary S. and Valerie F. (Blinn) Newell, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.

He was born Aug. 7, 1998, and was a student at the Richie McFarland Center, Stratham.

He loved to draw, ride his bicycle and have fun with his family.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Kenneth; three sisters, Alicia of Florida, Jessica of Haverhill and Annie Rose; his grandparents, John A. Newell of Gardiner, Maine, Patricia J. Blinn of Raymond, and Elizabeth L. Beebe of Raymond; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by one grandmother, Barbara (Trudeau) Newell.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 10, at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Route 27, Brentwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, c/o Richard Russell, 22 Poplin Road, Fremont, NH 03044.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond.

Irene R. Smith

RAYMOND - Irene Rose (Greenwood) Smith, 76, of 1 Cyrus Court, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Derry, the oldest of 14 children of the late Henry W. and Delia M. (McLaughlin) Greenwood.

She was a graduate of Raymond High School and was the Raymond High School Carnival Queen in 1942.

Mrs. Smith was a dietitian at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, for 16 years. She was formerly the hot lunch supervisor at Raymond High School and was employed by GTE Sylvania in Exeter for 17 years.

She was selected as the Homemaker of the Year in N.H. by the Manchester Union Leader in 1956. She was Employee of the Year at the nursing home in 1989 and was Employee of the Year for the State of N.H. Association of Counties in 1990.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Raymond; a member of the United Methodist Church Women's Society; and the Order of the Eastern Star in Candia.

She enjoyed gardening, crafts, cooking and was well known at the Deerfield Fair for her crochet work.

The widow of Donald C. Smith, who died in 1994, she is survived by two sons, Donald C. Smith Jr. and Nelson "Butch" Smith, both of Raymond; three daughters, Audrey J. Veino of Osteen, Fla., Barbara A. Fernald of Nottingham and Beverly J. Wright of Candia; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilfred "Buck" Greenwood of Raymond; three sisters, Eva Brown of Epping, and Helen Cammette and Lily Clifford both of Raymond; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Yvonne Gagnon and Doris Charter; and four borhters, J. Henry Greenwood, D. Francis "Pete" Greenwood, Robert C. Greenwood and Frederick M. Greenwood.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, On the Common, Raymond.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Raymond, with the Rev. J. Chandler Newton officiating. Spring burial will be in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA of Manchester and Southern N.H. Inc., 1850 Elm St., Manchester, NH 03104 or to the United Methodist Church, Main St., Raymond, NH 03077.

J. Vernon Lyon

GREENLAND - J. Vernon Lyon, 83, of 279 Bayside Road, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at his home.

He was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Walpole, Mass., the son of the late Herbert D. and Grace E. (Heath) Lyon and lived in Rye for many years, moving to Greenland in January of 2000.

He was a graduate of Canaan High School and the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor's degree in engineering.

He was an electrical/nuclear engineer for Westinghouse for many years. He was the head engineer for the Nautilus working on the reactor and electrical generation and was honored as a Fellow Engineer for being well respected in the engineering field.

He enjoyed finish carpentry and was an artist.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ada M. (Prosser) Lyon of Greenland; three daughters, Sherill A. MacDormand of New Durham, Marilyn M. Wanyo of North Hampton and Kathryn L. Mullholand of Greenland; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard Lyon of Chelsea, Mass., and Herbert E. Lyon of Nashua; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother and two sisters.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in United Church of Christ, Atlantic Avenue, North Hampton. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of the service. Private burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Eliot, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Portsmouth VNA/Hospice, 95 Albany St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
