Jamie W. Singleton

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - Jamie W. Singleton, 79, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, Mass., after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Hays, Kan., the son of the late Walter and Edna (Earlenbaugh) Singleton, and was a 1938 graduate of Winchester (Kan.) High School.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific. He returned to the United States to train as a naval air cadet at the University of Arizona. Following the war he returned to school to study aviation maintenance and worked for the Rhode Island National Guard where he was in charge of light aircraft. He was federalized during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Singleton was employed by Pratt & Whitney in West Hartford, Conn., when he became involved in the nuclear industry. He began working for Ebasco Service of New York City and later for Yankee Atomic Electric Co. in Boston, Mass., retiring in 1991. He worked on the first nuclear power plant in Rowe, Mass., and was the quality assurance manager of the Seabrook Power Plant while it was under construction.

He was an active member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Marlborough, where he was the official greeter and was a former member of the Church Council and a faithful server at Our Father's Table.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Collcary Post No. 638, Marlborough, since 1945.

He enjoyed collecting model trains, woodworking and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley (Jacobson) Singleton of Marlborough; two daughters and their husbands, Lynn and Jeffrey Mower and Kathy and William Whitney, all of Marlborough; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Lee Singleton and Leslie Singleton.

Funeral services were held Monday in St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Marlborough, with the Rev. Alice Kerr Laird officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlborough.

Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund, St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 537 Bolton St., Marlborough, MA 01752.

Arrangements were by the Slattery Funeral Home, Marlborough.

Paul Farnham Shea

EXETER - Paul Farnham Shea, 78, of 11 Boulder Brook Drive, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the Exeter Healthcare after a four-year battle with cancer.

He was born July 17, 1922 in Manchester, the son of the late Elmer John and Marion (Farnham) Shea.

A 1941 graduate of Central High School, Mr. Shea attended Kents Hill School and Maine Maritime Academy, thereafter being commissioned as an ensign, U.S. Naval Reserves.

From 1943 until the end of World War II, he served as first lieutenant on an amphibious transport as boat commander and ship's navigator. He landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy with the first-wave troops on D-Day. He also participated in the invasion of southern France and Okinawa, landing at Sasebok, Japan with occupation troops. Following his honorable discharge, he attended the University of New Hampshire, receiving a BA degree in economics in 1951.

Mr. Shea entered the Federal Bureau of Investigation as Special Agent in 1951, serving for 27 years in Detroit, Philadelphia, New York City and at the Bureau's Washington, D.C. headquarters, assigned to Special Inquiry, Domestic Intelligence, Inspection and Records Management.

He was then employed for 15 years by Delta Air Lines in their corporate security department until his retirement in 1992. He was primarily responsible for international airline security and investigations in Europe and the Far East.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Jeffrey and Richard Shea.

Mr. Shea is survived by his wife of ten years, Elizabeth (MacAskill) Shea of Exeter and Melvin Village; three sons, Jeffrey Shea of Albuquerque, N.M., Jonathan Shea of Tampa, Fla., and Todd Shea of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister, Marion Hartstein of Tampa; seven extended-family sons and daughters; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, May 12 at 11 a.m. in the Congregational Church Chapel, Exeter. The Rev. Jane Geffken Henderson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Paul F. Shea Memorial Fund, University of New Hampshire Foundation, Elliott Alumni Center, 9 Edgewood Road, Durham, NH 03824-9987.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Frank Tucker Clancey

BRENTWOOD - Frank Tucker Clancey, 64, of South Road, died April 9, 2001 at the Exeter Hospital.

He was born Nov. 21, 1936 in Exeter, the son of the late Forrest W. and Lee (Tucker) Clancey.

Mr. Clancey had resided in Brentwood for the past 28 years and was a former longtime resident of Exeter. He was a graduate of Exeter High School with the Class of 1956, which was the first coeducational graduating class.

He entered the Seabees in 1959.

Mr. Clancey worked as a counterparts man at Dreher-Holloway for 22 years in the Mercedes Department.

He served on the Brentwood Fire Department for 28 years, currently serving as lieutenant. He ran the Junior Fire Department program in Brentwood for several years.

Mr. Clancey is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary F. (Towler) Clancey of Brentwood; one daughter, Mary Lee Clancey of Dover; one sister, Eloise Brown of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 13 at 11 a.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. The Rev. Moynihan will officiate.

Burial will be in the Brentwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brentwood Fire and Rescue Department, Crawley Falls Road, Brentwood, NH 03833.

Nora L. Ross

EXETER - Nora L. Ross, 93, of Main Street, Exeter, died Thursday, April 12, 2001 at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood after a brief illness.

She was born April 21, 1907 in Norway, the daughter of the late Olaf and Fredricka (Ingman) Stenborg.

Formerly of Stratham and Hampton Falls, she had resided in Exeter for the past 15 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard H. Ross Sr., who died July 6, 1993.

She is survived by one son, Bernard H. Ross Jr. of Errol; three daughters, Barbara Batchelder of Oscala, Fla., Nancy Bernier of Exeter and Louise Ross of Hampton Beach; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

Private services will be held for the family.

Spring burial will be held in Westview Cemetery, Hampton Falls.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

Edward J. Sherry

BRENTWOOD - Edward J. Sherry, 74, of Dudley Road, Brentwood, died Thursday, April 12, 2001 at Exeter Hospital.

He was the husband of Theresa M. (Krajewski) Sherry of Brentwood.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 15, from 6-8 p.m. at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, April 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church, Front Street, Exeter. Burial will be in the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brentwood Historical Society, 1 Dalton Road, Brentwood, N.H. 03833 or to the Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, N.H. 03833.

Alan C. Marston

NEWMARKET - Alan C. Marston, 60, of Bass Street, died April 11, 2001, at his home after a brief illness.

Born Aug. 25, 1940 in Newburyport, Mass., he was the son of the late Curtis D. and Louise (Webb) Marston.

He was a graduate of Hampton High School and lived in the Seacoast area and in Newmarket for the past 15 years.

For 22 years he has owned and operated Alan Marston's Body Shop in Newmarket.

He built a race car and participated in both street and dirt drag racing. He enjoyed boating and was a member of Cove Yacht Club in Naples, Fla., and the Thomas Point Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Owls Head Transportation Museum in Owls Head, Maine.

Mr. Marston started Seacoast Corvette in Hampton, sponsored a Little Mule League team in Newmarket, contributed to the Exeter Children's Fund and was a past president and board member of the River Ridge Condominium Association, and enjoyed working in his flower garden.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Elizabeth (Afflick) Marston of Newmarket; five children, Michael A. Marston and his wife Lori of Dover, Del., Leisa M. Marelli and her husband Gary of Baker, Fla., Pamela Ruesswick and her husband Glenn in Kittery Point, Maine, Gregory Stone and his wife Donna of Colebrook and Bryan Stone of Concord; and 13 grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Friday, April 13, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Kent and Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m. at the Kent and Pelczar Funeral Home, with Rev. Thomas Coover officiating.

Hyman H. Greenbaum

HAVERHILL, Mass. - Hyman H. Greenbaum, 87, of Haverhill and Delray Beach, Fla., died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Hospice By the Sea in Boca Raton, Fla.

He was born Oct. 5, 1913, in Lowell, Mass., the son of the late Nathan and Pauline (Katz) Greenbaum. and was a lifelong resident of Haverhill.

He was a 1931 graduate of Haverhill High School and a 1935 graduate of the former Lowell Technological Institute as a textile chemist.

Mr. Greenbaum founded the Exeter Food Center in Exeter in 1940, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Haverhill and served of the board of directors.

He was a member of the Haverhill Golf & Country Club, serving on the House Committee; was a member of Emmeth Lodge, Newburyport, Mass.; the Exeter Lions Club, where he was in charge of Christmas baskets for the poor and ran baseball games for the Jimmy Fund.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lee (Tenenbaum) Greenbaum; one son and his wife, Jack and Karen Greenbaum of Wilmington, Del.; two daughters, Evelyn and Stanley Mitchell of Omaha, Neb., and Judy and Mitchell Kroner of Groveland, Mass;. six grandchildren; one brother, Bernard Greenbaum of Haverhill; one sister, Eva Seigel of Longboat Key, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Temple Emanu-El, 514 Main St., Haverhill. Burial will be in Children of Israel Cemetery, Haverhill.

A memorial period will be held at the home of Judy and Mitchell Kroner Thursday evening until Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday evening to Sunday evening.

Wilfred L. Sanders

SHREWSBURY, Mass. - Wilfred L. Sanders, 86, of Francis Avenue, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Marlboro, Mass., the son of Leroy and Celina (Ethier) Sanders and had resided in Shrewsbury since 1938.

He was a graduate of Marlboro (Mass.) High School and attended the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass., and Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass. He was a track star in high school and college and played semi-professional hockey.

Mr. Sanders was a foreman-machinist at several shoe factories, retiring in 1977.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Shrewsbury, and a member of the West Boylston Skeet Club.

He was a hockey and ski coach, a ski instructor at Mount Ward and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a founder of the Pee Wee Hockey League in Worcester.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rose A. (Harpin) Sanders; two sons, Wilfred L. "Jack" Sanders Jr. of Waterville Valley and Stratham, and Richard P. Sanders of Matapoisett, Mass.; one daughter, Susan J. DeLeo of Shrewsbury; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris Derosier of Northboro, Mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in St. Mary Church. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., 203 Brimbal Ave., Beverly, MA 01915.

Arrangements were by the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Shrewsbury.
