Eldon B. Mayhew

EXETER - Eldon Burgess Mayhew, 87, of Hampton Road, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Langdon Place after a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 4, 1913, in Exeter, the son of the late Paul and Rena (Buzzell) Mayhew, and had resided at 54 Winter Street for 85 years.

Mr. Mayhew was a custodian at Phillips Exeter Academy and at Exeter Hospital for many years.

He was an active member of Exeter United Methodist Church and a former volunteer fireman in Exeter.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, G. Annie (Bickford) Mayhew of Exeter; one daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Lyman Codding of Nottingham; one son and his wife, Albert and Jean Mayhew of South Glastonbury, Conn.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Greenwood of Gilford; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Exeter United Methodist Church, 307 Epping Road, Exeter, with the Rev. Daniel Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilmanton, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Exeter United Methodist Church, 307 Epping Road, Exeter NH 03833 or to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Daniel K. Smith

NOTTINGHAM - Daniel K. Smith, 39, of 106 Smoke St., died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Haverhill, Mass., was raised in Plaistow and had resided in Stratham before moving to Nottingham.

He attended the Pollard School, Plaistow, and was a 1980 graduate of Timberlane Regional High School, Plaistow. He attended Plymouth State College and received his bachelor's degree in regional planning and development from the University of New Hampshire.

Mr. Smith was a co-founder and partner of Smith-Wessel Associates, Inc., an environmental consulting firm established in 1995 in Merrimac, Mass.

He was a member of the National Institute of Building Sciences; the National Lead Abatement Council; and the New England Environmental Information Association. He was listed as an honored professional in the 1996-97 edition of Who's Who in Executives and Businesses.

He was an avid outdoorsman and naturalist and enjoyed fishing, bird watching and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Diane L. (DeGloria) Smith; his mother, Eleanor (Nelson) Smith of Kingston; two brothers, William Haggerty of Seabrook and Bradley Smith of South Alton; one sister, Kimberly Kissel of Plaistow; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. 20 Merrimack St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Emma M. Boyd

RYE - Emma M. Boyd died Tuesday, May 8, 2001.

The widow of John T. Boyd, she is survived by her children, Cynthia Lentz of Allentown, Pa., John T. Boyd Jr. of Rye, Candace Boyd of Sunapee, Hollie Fremeau of Manchester and Celeste B. Ward of Stratham; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Gordon N. MacKenzie of Harwich, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Florence and Marion, and two brothers, Irving and Allen.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Rye Congregational Church, Central Road, Rye. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Rye.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton.

Irene H. Dufault

HAMPTON - Irene H. Dufault, 86, of 12 Palmer St., died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Riverside Rest Home, Dover.

She was born March 1, 1915, in Manchester and had resided in Haverhill, Mass., for most of her life before moving to Hampton.

She was a graduate of Haverhill High School and Northern Essex Community College.

Mrs. Dufault was a licensed practical nurse for nursing homes in the Merrimack Valley for several years.

She was a member and past worthy matron of the Haverhill Order of Eastern Star and of the White Shrine.

The widow of John A. Dufault, who died in 1966, she is survived by two daughters, Joanne A. Russell of Laconia and Audrey E. Jordan of Hampton; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Diane M. Collins, who died in 1995.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Riverside Rest Home Residents Fund, 276 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820.

Assistance with the arrangements was by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

R. Evelyn Eaton

SEABROOK - R. Evelyn Eaton, 92, of 2 Main St., died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.

She was born March 6, 1909, in Bowdoinham, Maine, the daughter of the late George and Mary (Marietta) Sedgley. She had resided in Seabrook since 1951, coming from Newburyport, Mass.

She was a graduate of Bowdoinham High School.

Mrs. Eaton worked at CBS Hytron Co., Newburyport, for many years.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Post No. 70 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8942 of Rye.

She was an avid bingo player.

The widow of Frank B. Eaton, who died in 1994, she is survived by one son and his wife, Frank B. Jr. and Veronica Eaton of East Kingston; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Spear Sedgley of Bowdoinham; and two sisters, Marjorie Walentine and Frances Carr both of Bowdoinham.

She was predeceased by two sons, Clayton V. Lindsey, who died in 1991, and Frederick E. Lindsey who died in 1990.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in Bay View Cemetery, Bowdoinham.

Isabel Fields

RAYMOND - Isabel Fields, 88, of Route 27, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Exeter Hospital after a period of failing health.

She was born April 4, 1913, in Kingston, the daughter of the late Clarence and Edith (Merrick) Sheldon. She had resided in Raymond for more than 50 years and was currently living with her son and daughter-in-law in Raymond.

Mrs. Fields was employed by E&R Laundry and Standard Uniform, both of Manchester, and at Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter.

She enjoyed gardening.

The widow of Robert Fields, who died in 1972, she is survived by two sons, Rene Desmarais of Raymond and Robert Fields Jr. of Kittery, Maine; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Wednesday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond, with the Rev. Wayne VanGundy officiating. Burial was in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.

Lillian D. Hamel

HAMPTON - Lillian D. Hamel, 96, of 97 Leavitt Road, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at her home.

She was born April 22, 1905, in Manchester, the daughter of the late George D. and Clarissa (Sevigny) Hebert. She had resided in Epping many years before moving to Hampton in 1965.

Mrs. Hamel worked for the former National Shoe Co. of Epping in the 1930s and 50s, except during World War II when she worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. After moving to Hampton she worked briefly at Marston School.

She was a former member of the Richard A. Mitchell American Legion Auxiliary unit of Epping.

The widow of Aldage J. Hamel, who died in 1964, she is survived by one son, Rene G. Hamel of South Berwick, Maine; two daughters, Claire L. Hamel of Hampton and Jeannine McCreary and her husband George of Hampton and Chicago; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one son, Ronald Hamel, who died in 1954; two daughters, Germaine Fortier, who died in 1971, and Jacqueline Porter who died in 1985; and by 13 brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping.

Memorial donations may be made to the Seacoast Visiting Nurses Association, 29 Lafayette Road, North Hampton, NH 03862.

Kenneth M. Harkin

NORTH HAMPTON - Kenneth M. Harkin, 39, of 41 Hobbs Road, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at his home.

He was born Sept. 6, 1961, in Weymouth, Mass., the son of the late John E. and Priscilla R. (Gionet) Harkin. He resided in Weymouth most of his life, moving to North Hampton 8 years ago.

He was a graduate of Braintree (Mass.) High School.

Mr. Harkin worked in the facilities department at the University of New Hampshire. He had previously owned and operated Felix Express, Inc., a courier company in the Seacoast area.

He enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Casco, Maine, and was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his wife, Robin L. (Lewis) Harkin; one daughter, Samantha J. McKenna of Whitman, Mass.; two brothers, Michael J. Harkin of Weymouth and Paul Harkin of Rockland, Mass.; four sisters, Kathie Slattery of Exeter, Pauline Sullivan of Townsend, Mass., Suzanne Pry of West Townsend, Mass., and Claudia Harkin of Plaistow; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach. Burial was in Center Cemetery, North Hampton.

Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton.

Yvonne Matick

EXETER - Yvonne (Couillard) Matick, of 277 Water St., died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.

She was born in Montmagny, P.Q., Canada, the daughter of Joseph and Lucy (Gagne) Couillard. and moved to Exeter as a young adult. She had resided at the nursing home for one week.

She was educated in Canadian schools.

Mrs. Matick was a homemaker and a volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Birthright, Exeter Hospital, Navy Relief and the shelter for battered women.

She was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter.

The widow of Joseph J. Matick, who died in 1992, she is survived by one granddaughter, Wanda Pynn of Exeter; two grandsons, William and Wayne Matick; two sisters, Mary Manix of Exeter and Millie Rousseau of Seabrook and Naples Fla.; several great-grandchildren and nieces.

She was predeceased by one son, William J. Matick, who died in 1997.

There are no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Front Street, Exeter. Burial will be in Exeter Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or St. Michael Church.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.
