Ralph P. D'Amelio
KINGSTON - Ralph P. D'Amelio, 58, of 94 New Boston Road, died Monday, June 4, 2001, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
He was born in Cambridge, Mass. and resided in the Boston area before moving to Kingston in 1969.
He was educated in Alston, Mass., schools.
Mr. D'Amelio owned and operated Ralph D'Amelio Stables in Kingston where he trained horses for harness racing.
He was a former driver on the east coast harness racing circuit and won several races including the Governor's Cup in Rochester and the Deleware Raceway Cup.
He was a member of the New England Horsemen's Protection Benevolent Association and the United States Trotter's Association.
He is survived by his wife, Terry A. (Haywood) D'Amelio; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Vincent P. and Heidi D'Amelio of Exeter, Ralph P. and Elizabeth D'Amelio II and Roger T. D'Amelio, all of Kingston; two daughters, Emily D'Amelio of Rockland, Mass., and Tracey L. D'Amelio of Kingston; seven grandchildren; five brothers, James D'Amelio of Medford, Mass., Robert D'Amelio of Wrentham, Mass., Anthony D'Amelio of East Kingston, Paul D'Amelio of Chelsea Mass., and Alfred D'Amelio of Alston; six sisters, Josephine Tilmman of Danvers, Mass., Joyce McCarthy and Florence D'Amelio of Newton, Mass., Judith McWhinnie of Alston, Angela Hannon of Watertown, Mass., and Emily Mazzola of Natick, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Kingston.
James Griffin
SEABROOK - James Griffin, 84, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.
He was born Oct. 31, 1916, in Lowell, Mass., the son of the late James and Bridget (Murren) Griffin.
He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Grammar School and Lowell High School.
Mr. Griffin was a salesman at Grossman Building Supply and Palm Grain and Supply.
The widower of Mary Rita (Muldoon) Griffin, who died in 1997, he is survived by four daughters, Janice Moran of Lawrence, Mass., Mary Lou Samowski and Donna Carmichael, both of Naples, Fla., and Anne Riley of Danvers, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a friend, Rita Fontaine of Seabrook.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Rita A. Swan and Barbara A. Griffin.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday in St. Joseph's Lithuanian Church, Lowell.
Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
Arrangements were by the Mahoney Funeral Home, Lowell.
Robert J. Lord
SALEM - Robert J. Lord, 69, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, in Lawrence General Hospital, Lawrence, Mass.
He was born in Exeter and had resided in Salem for 34 years coming from Laconia.
He was educated in Exeter schools and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Lord owned and operated a family business in Plaistow for 15 years.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Salem, and enjoyed boating and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Ladrea (Nowak) Lord of Salem; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Maria Lord of Derry, Kevin and Darlene Lord of Bricktown, N.J., and Keith Lord of Plaistow; two daughters, Cynthia Lord and Karen Vogler, both of Salem; six granchildren; one sister, Helen Gage of Stratham; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday in St. Joseph Church, Salem.
Burial was in Exeter Cemetery.
Arrangements was by the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, Salem.
Charles B. Ireland
BRENTWOOD - Charles Byron Ireland, 85, of 117 North Road, formerly of 4 Pine Crest Park, Exeter, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home.
He was born June 19, 1915, in Lincoln, Maine, the son of the late Goodin and Hillary (McAlpine) Ireland, and moved to the seacoast area in 1950.
He was educated in Lincoln schools.
Mr. Ireland was a plumber.
He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Judy Holmes; one daughter, Carol Sawyer of Hampton; one stepson, Earl Holmes; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Blanche Tolman of Lincoln, Maine.
He was predeceased by one brother, David Ireland; and one sister, June Sawyer.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in Lincoln.
Assistance with the arrangements was by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
Thomas D. Murphy
EXETER - Thomas D. Murphy, 69, of 307 Friar Tuck Drive, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.
He was born June 14, 1931, in Dorchester, Mass., the son of the late Thomas F. and Eva (Cooper) Murphy and resided in Exeter for many years.
He was a 1950 graduate of Exeter High School and a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Murphy was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the painting department and in the planning office for 20 years. He had previously worked for several area painting contractors.
He enjoyed listening to jazz and playing the drums.
He is survived by his wife, Doris E. (Parshley) Murphy of Exeter; two sons, Timothy M. Murphy and Kyle S. Murphy, both of North Carolina; two daughters, Gay Lynn Harris of North Carolina and Shawn K. Murphy of South Carolina; three stepsons, David M. Breen of Deerfield, Jeffrey A. Breen of Littleton, and Christopher M. Breen of Epsom; two stepdaughters, Robyn E. DesRoches of Farmington and Melanie A. Nichols of Newfields; 26 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stephen C. Murphy of Chelmsford, Mass., and Donald P. Murphy of Billerica, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 3 p.m. in St. Michael Church, Front Street, Exeter. Burial will be in Exeter Cemetery.

Barbara G. Reed
STONINGTON, Maine - Barbara G. Reed, 66, of Green Head Lane, formerly of Newfields, died Sunday, June 3, 2001.
She was born May 8, 1935, in Bluehill, Maine, the daughter of Howard and Regina Guptill.
She was a graduate of the University of Maine, Orono, with a degree in nursing.
Mrs. Reed was a registered nurse and served as an administrator and director of nursing.
Following her retirement she and her husband began a plant, herb, jams, jellies and pickles business in Stonington.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, (Maj.) Ralph Barry Reed; one son, Barry M. Reed of Stratham; two daughters, Julie Dunfey of Rye and Nancy O'Shea of Kittery Point, Maine; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Wednesday in Bragdon Funeral Home, Stonington.

Howard L. Yates
DURHAM - Howard L. Yates, 58, of Mathes Cove Road, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, in Connecticut while on a business trip.
He was born Aug. 7, 1942, in Detroit, Mich., the son of David and Estelle (Junick) Yates.
He resided in Hudson for several years before moving to Durham in 1987.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and held the rank of technical sergeant, retiring in 1979 after 20 years of service.
He was a graduate of the University of Maryland with a bachelor of science degree in management, and received an associate degree in applied sciences from USAF College, in communications/government from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in business administration from the University of New Hampshire.
Mr. Yates was a vice president of several major Fortune 500 companies.
He had many years experience in all facets of information technology and was a former president and chief executive officer of a multinational corporation.
He also held executive positions with Wang Laboratories, RCA Corp., and Unisys corporations.
He consulted with internet companies specializing in areas of network security, e-commerce and software sales.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Green) Yates of Durham; three sons, David A. Yates of Nashua, Adrien V. Yates of New Boston and Sean E. Doyle of Winthrop, Mass.; six grandchildren; one brother, Michael Yates of Michigan; one sister, Cathy Yates of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday in the Church of St. Thomas More, Durham, with the Rev. Dan St. Laurent as the celebrant.
