Catherine E. McLaughlin

QUINCY, Mass. - Catherine E. McLaughlin, 77, of 91 Clay St., died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Quincy Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Revere, Mass., the daughter of the late James R. and Eleanor F. (McCarthy) McCarthy. She resided in Manchester for many years and moved to Rye Beach in 1979 where she summered for many years and wintered in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. She had recently moved to Quincy.

She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School.

Mrs. McLaughlin was a supervisor in the traffic department for the former New England Telephone Company.

She was a former communicant of St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach.

The widow of Thomas J. McLaughlin, she is survived by one son, James W. McLaughlin of Twin Mountain; one daughter and her husband, Patricia C. and Robert Bossart of Quincy; and three grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Theresa Church, 815 Central Road, Rye Beach. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Rye.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160.

Katherine M. Janvrin

HAMPTON - Katherine M. Janvrin, 96, of 340 Lafayette Road, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at her home.

She was born Oct. 12, 1905, in Newburyport, Mass., the daughter of the late Benjamin and Christian (Beaton) Fields.

She was educated in Newburyport schools and was a 1921 graduate of Burdett College, Lynn, Mass.

Mrs. Janvrin and her late husband owned and operated the former John A. Janvrin Lumber Co. of Hampton until 1954. They were also the co-founders with the late Carl Lougee of Yankee Trader Real Estate of Hampton, which they operated until 1974.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton.

The widow of F. Alfred Janvrin, who died in 1981, she is survived by one daughter, Eileen Monroe of Hampton; nine grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 19 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one daughter, E. Ann Grenier; one son, John A. Janvrin; one sister, Christina McGlew; and one brother, Benjamin B. Fields.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Walter S. Freeman

BRENTWOOD - Walter S. Freeman, 80, formerly of Crawley Falls Road, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home.

He was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Portsmouth, Va., the son of the late Josiah and Ruth (Bidgood) Freeman and had resided in Brentwood for 25 years.

He was a graduate of Portsmouth (Va.) High School and attended the University of Michigan and the University of Alabama.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Freeman was a computer systems analyst for the U.S. government for 25 years, retiring from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1984.

He was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Manchester, and was active in Brentwood town affairs.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Williamson) Freeman of Brentwood; two daughters, Lynn Hamer of Brentwood and Mary Stevens of Massachusetts; and two grandchildren.

A memorial Mass was celebrated Thursday in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Manchester.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 54 Walnut St., Manchester, NH 03104.

Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Arthur W. Page

BRENTWOOD - Arthur W. "Artie" Page, 75, of North Road, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at his home.

He was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Brentwood, the son of the late Oscar E. and Geneva (Severance) Page, and he lived in Brentwood all of his life.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving as a seaman first class.

Mr. Page retired from Brentwood Furniture, Haverhill, Mass., in 1992. He was a former member of the Brentwood Police Department and was also a guard at the Rockingham County Correctional Facility.

He was known for his 1928 Model A car which he drove in local parades. He enjoyed woodworking and playing bingo.

He was a member of Brentwood Baptist Church for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret (McCullough) Page; two daughters, Kathleen Page and Marleen Hirscht, both of Exeter; one son, John A. Page of Fremont; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Howard Page of Fremont and Lloyd Page of Pennsylvania; and two sisters, Pauline Fox of Pittsfield and Eleanor McCullough of Effingham;

He was predeceased by two brothers, Oscar Page Jr. and Herbert Page.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Brentwood Baptist Church, Route 125 and North Road, Brentwood, with former pastor, Rev. James Barnes, officiating. Burial will follow in the Sleeper-Peterson Cemetery, Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, as per Mr. Page's request, memorial donations may be made to a scholarship fund established for his great-granddaughter, Kaylin Paige Stevens, c/o Bank North, 53 Church St., P.O. Box 608, Kingston, NH 03848.

Evelyn Hill

EXETER - Evelyn Hill, 94, formerly of Hayes Park, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, where she had resided for the past few years.

She was born April 21, 1907, in Jordan Falls, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Frederick S. and Maude (Purney) deMolitor. She had resided in Lowell and Haverhill, Mass., for 28 years, and in Plaistow for 11 years before moving to Exeter in 1971.

Mrs. Hill was an inspector for the Raytheon Corporation retiring in 1967.

She was an active member of Exeter Congregational Church and a member of Puritan Chapter No. 54, Order of Eastern Star, Lowell.

The widow of Robert L. Hill, who died in 1997, she is survived by one sister, Cecelia of Ontario, Canada; four brothers, Edward, David, John and Sherman, all of Canada; many nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Dorothy Rowe of Brentwood.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Lillian, Dorothy and Mary, and four brothers, George, William, Gordon and Cecil.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Plaistow Cemetery, with the Rev. Jane Geffken Henderson officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Rockingham County Nursing Home, 117 North Road, Brentwood, NH 03833.

Assistance with the arrangements is by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket.

Clara Gale

HAMPTON - Clara Gale, 102, of 22 Tuck Road, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Seacoast Health Center.

She was born July 20, 1899, in Exeter, the daughter of the late Samuel and Grace (Hoyle) Seward and had resided in Hampton since the early 1920s.

During World War II she served as a member of the Police Auxilliary, making certain that residents in her patrol district observed the "black-out" rules.

Mrs. Gale and her late husband owned and operated Gale's Garage in Hampton for 40 years. She had also worked at the Kentville Hotel at Hampton Beach for several years.

She was the ballot clerk at the Hampton polls working every election for 72 years. She was honored in the 1999 N.H. Manual of the General Court.

She was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church; the Orient Chapter and Tide Mill Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star; the White Shrine; was past grand organist of the Grand Chapter of New Hampshire; a member of Oceanside Grange No. 260 and East Rockingham Pomona Grange No. 11; the Hampton Monday Club; the Kitchen Kut Ups; and the National Federation of Republican Women's Club.

In honor of her 100th birthday a tree was planted on the premises of St. James Lodge F&AM of Hampton.

One of her most prized possessions was the American flag presented to her after being flown over the nation's Capitol, the New Hampshire State House and the Hampton town hall polling place.

The widow of Floyd I. Gale, who died in 1967, she is survived by two nieces, Annie Whaley of Springvale, Maine, and Eleanor Adams of Kittery, Maine; two nephews, Floyd Seward of Kittery Point, Maine, and George Seward of Eliot, Maine; and several grandnieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Samuel Seward Jr. and R. Harold Seward; and one sister, Elizabeth Holmer.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Fraternal services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. by the Grange and at 7 p.m. by Eastern Star.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Memorial donations may be made to Hampton United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842.

Virginia Bauer

SEABROOK - Virginia Bauer, 80, of 81 Railroad Ave., died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Seacoast Health Center, Hampton.

She was born May 10, 1921, in Newburyport, Mass., the daughter of the late Earl and Ruth (Ruggles) d'Armond.

Mrs. Bauer worked in several area shoe shops for many years including Henchell, Ruth Shoe and Stride Rite.

She is survived by one son, Verner E. Buck Jr. of Seabrook; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two half brothers, Roger Thurlow Jr., of Newbury, Mass., and James Thurlow of Seabrook; four half sisters, Maryann Newcity and Shirley Thurlow. both of Newburyport, Judy Snow of Salisbury, Mass., and Marion Fish of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society, Inc., P.O. Box 1176, Newburyport, MA 01950.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Anne Marie Freeman

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine - Anne Marie (Desjardins) Freeman, 88, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in Aroostook Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 21, 1913, in New Canada Plantation, Maine, the daughter of Henry and Alice (Sweeney) Desjardins.

She was a graduate of Fort Kent High School.

Mrs. Freeman and her late husband owned and operated Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. of Aroostook in Presque Isle. They had previously owned Presque Isle Grill during World War II.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella.

She was an avid golfer and was a member of the Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Country Club for 20 years and was one of the presidents of the Ladies Division at Presque Isle Country Club.

The widow of Joseph L. Freeman, she is survived by one son and his wife, Greg and Kay Freeman of Presque Isle; one daughter, Joe Ann Shields of Exeter; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday in St. Mary Church, with The Reverends Claude Albert, Arthur Ouellette and Thomas Lequin concelebrating. Spring burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 813, Presque Isle, ME 04769.

Arrangements were by the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
