Margaret F. Ellison

EXETER - Margaret F. Ellison, 83, of 277 Water St., died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 25, 1918 in Saugus, Mass., the daughter of the late Arthur F. and Nellie (Jenkins) Spinney. A former resident of Saugus and Lynn, Mass., she had resided in Exeter since 1991.

Mrs. Ellison was employed for many years at Davidson's Shoe in Lynn. She also worked for Sears Roebuck in Lynn.

In her spare time, she enjoyed baking.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Michael E. (Kathy A.) Austin of Exeter; two sisters, Evelyn Bangs of Saugus, Mass., and Jean Bedrosian of Wenham, Mass.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was the widow of the late Arthur H. Ellison, who died Dec. 13, 1996. She was also predeceased by a brother, Arthur F. Spinney Jr., of Saugus, Mass., and a sister, Muriel G. Locke of Lynn, Mass.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 11 at 9 a.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Patricia A. Dudley

HAMPTON - Patricia A. Dudley, 64, of Taylor River Estates, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, in Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 21, 1938, in Amesbury, Mass., the daughter of the late James and Rose (Provencher) Manning.

She attended St. Joseph Grammar School and was a 1955 graduate of Amesbury High School.

Mrs. Dudley was employed in various positions in area banks and had previously worked in the office at the former Brochu's Market.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed crafts.

The widow of Ralph Dudley, who died in 1999, she is survived by five daughters and three sons-in-law, Barbara and Al Stuart and Cathy and Kenny Vichell, all of Amesbury, Laurie and Arthur Hawkes of Fremont, Cheryl McCarthy of Kensington and Michelle Freel of Scituate, Mass.; one son and his wife, Michael and Robin Dudley of Barnstead; 16 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Dion of Amesbury; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday in St. Joseph Church, Amesbury. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01710 or to the American Lung Association of Mass., 100 Cummings Center, Suite 323A, Beverly, MA 01915-6185.

Arrangements were by the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, Amesbury.

Priscilla M. Archie

NEW DURHAM - Priscilla M. Archie, 72, of Merrymeeting Road, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at her home after a period of failing health.

She was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Exeter, the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Barlow) Lancaster and had resided in New Durham for 19 years.

She was a 1947 graduate of Robinson Female Seminary, Exeter.

Mrs. Archie worked at the former Globe Department Store in Exeter for many years.

She was a communicant of St. Peter Church, Farmington.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Julius E. Archie of New Durham; one son, Richard E. Archie of Raymond; one daughter, Patricia A. McLean of Victor, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Miller and Pearl Goss.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church, 90 Central St., Farmington, with the Rev. Eddy Bisson as celebrant. Burial will be in Exeter at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Your VNA and Hospice, 178 Farmington Road, Rochester, NH 03867 or to the American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Bedford, NH 03110.

Arrangements are by the Peaslee Funeral Home, Farmington.

Phyllis J. Bartlett

BRENTWOOD - Phyllis J. Bartlett, 94, of South Road, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, after a brief period of declining health.

She was born Oct. 14, 1907, in Canaan, Maine, the daughter of Arthur and Ina (Smith) Elwood and had resided in Brentwood for more than 75 years.

Mrs. Bartlett was co-owner of Bartlett Greenhouses in Brentwood until 1975.

She was a member of Brentwood Baptist Church and served for many years with the Brentwood Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son and his wife, William S. Jr. and Lee Bartlett of Kingston; four grandchildren; four great-grandsons; her longtime companion, Robert T. Judkins of Brentwood; and four foster sons, Gerald Elliott, Frank Call, Raymond Call and Frank Gorrell.

There are no calling hours.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mary E. Bartlett Library, 22 Dalton Road, Brentwood, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Muriel G. Batchelder

EXETER - Muriel G. Batchelder, 75, of Arbor Street, died Friday, May 10, 2002, in Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness.

She was born Aug. 15, 1926, in East Greenwich, R.I., the daughter of the late Harold and Ruth (Leathers) Henry. She was raised in Plaistow and had resided in Kensington for many years before moving to Exeter 15 years ago.

Mrs. Batchelder was a longtime member of the Seventh-day Advent Church, Amesbury, Mass., and Portsmouth; and a former member of the Seabreeze Quilters of Exeter.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting, knitting and going out for Chinese food.

The widow of Moses Batchelder, who died in 1977, she is survived by three sons, Martin Batchelder of Silver Springs, Md., Gerald Batchelder of Exeter and Daniel Batchelder of Gilmanton; two daughters, Kathie Felch of Kensington and Melodee Bishop of Londonderry; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gwen Batchelder of Newbury, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter, with the Reverends Wallace Frost, John Ferraro and Rick Kuntz officiating. Burial was in Village Cemetery, Kensington.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Sheila A. Blanchette

SEABROOK - Sheila A. Blanchette, 54, of 10 Farm Lane, and Louisville, Ky., died Friday, May 10, 2002, in Baptist Hospital East, Louisville.

She was born March 21, 1948, in Amesbury, Mass., the daughter of the late Gerald J. and Carlene F. (Carter) Perusse. She was raised in Amesbury and Seabrook and traveled for many years with her husband who was in the military.

She was a 1964 graduate of Winnacunnet High School, Hampton.

Mrs. Blanchette worked for the Army and Air Force Base Exchange Service for 23 years, managing several of the military department stores at various bases. She had previously worked for her parents at Perusse's Variety Store in Seabrook and for the old Seabrook Post Office in the Smithtown section of town.

She was active with the American Legion Auxiliary in Germany and was active in Scouting serving as a den mother for her son's Cub Scout pack. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Leo P. Blanchette of Seabrook; one son and his wife, Shawn and Samantha Blanchette of Seabrook; one daughter, Shelley Blanchette of Seabrook; four grandchildren; one sister, Laura Turcotte of Seabrook; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Seabrook.

Benjamin Karpman

PORTSMOUTH - Benjamin Karpman, 88, died Monday, May 6, 2002.

He was born in 1913 in Minsk, Russia. He was a longtime resident of Hartford, Conn., and had resided at the Mark Wentworth Home in Portsmouth for the last several years.

Mr. Karpman was employed by the Prudential Insurance Co. for more than 30 years and won many awards for outstanding achievements.

He was an accomplished singer and sang in various synagogues, choirs and vocal groups from the age of 6 until after retirement. He regularly entertained the residents and staff at the Mark Wentworth Home.

He was an avid golfer and made three holes-in-one on various golf courses.

The widower of Ida Karpman, his wife of 49 years, he is survived by one daughter, Lorrie Grossman of Portsmouth; one son, Andy Karpman of Hampton; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 7 in Weinstein's Mortuary, West Hartford, Conn. Burial was in East Windsor, Conn.

Memorial services will be held in Temple Israel, Portsmouth, at a later date.

Henrietta Miron

EXETER - Graveside services for Henrietta (Blake) Miron will be held Saturday, May 18, at 9:30 a.m. in Hillside Cemetery, East Kingston. The Rev. Richard St. Louis, associate pastor of St. Michael Church, will officiate.

Mrs. Miron, 107, of Brookside Drive, died Jan. 31, 2002.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael Church, Front Street, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Donna Lee

TUCSON, Ariz. - Donna (Taylor) Lee, 34, died April 27, 2002, in Tucson after a sudden illness.

She was born June 15, 1967, in Salem, Mass., the daughter of the late Harry R. and Carla (Gage) Taylor, and was raised in Seabrook.

She was educated in Seabrook schools.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth B. Lee III and Corey A. Pavuk of Tucson; two sisters, Cynthia Hoyt of Amesbury, Mass., and Claudia Taylor of Lewiston, Calif.; five brothers, Allen Taylor of Pittsfield, Cliff Taylor of Raymond, Dean Taylor of Sanford, Maine, Wayne Taylor of Exeter and Lee Taylor of Seabrook; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one brother, Carl Taylor.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Adair Funeral Home, Tucson.

Phyllis M.E. Nickulas

EXETER - Phyllis M.E. (Blomquist) Nickulas, 86, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, in Exeter Hospital.

She was born April 25, 1916, in Dannebrog, Neb., the daughter of the late Isaac P. and Emily Marguerite J. (Olson) Blomquist.

She was a 1934 graduate of Portsmouth High School, a graduate of the Lynn (Mass.) Hospital School of Nursing and she attended Simmons College in Boston.

She was a U.S. Army Nurse Corps veteran of World War II serving in France.

Mrs. Nickulas was a registered nurse at Portsmouth Hospital, retiring in 1980. She had previously worked at the Lynn Union in Lynn.

She was a member of Greenland Community Congregational Church; the Women's Alliance of the church; the Harmony Club; and the Lynn Hospital Alumni Association.

The widow of John A. Nickulas, she is survived by two sons, John M. Nickulas of Oakland, Calif., and David W. Nickulas of Auburn; one daughter, Marjorie Brennan of Sandown; nine grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; two brothers, Rayfield W. Blomquist of Portsmouth and John E. Blomquist of Wolfeboro; one sister, Marjorie Bond of Candia; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth.
