Armand Pelletier Sr.

HAMPTON BEACH - Armand Pelletier Sr., 91, of 27 River Ave., died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, in Exeter Hospital following a period of failing health.

He was born April 26, 1911, in St. Rock, Canada, the son of the late failing and Virginia (Peelerin) Pelletier. He resided in Nashua for many years before moving to Hampton Beach 30 years ago.

Mr. Pelletier was a placement marker at the Nashua Mills and was a security guard at Nashua Corporation for 23 years, retiring in 1972. He was a gentleman farmer, raising pigs and other livestock and was a market gardener.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Irene Pelletier of Hampton Beach; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Armand J. Pelletier Jr. of Nashua and George and Anne Pelletier of Tyngsboro, Mass.; six grandchildren, including Shawn A. Pelletier and his wife Shawna of Hampton, who cared for him during his illness; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday in the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, Hampton. Burial was in St. Louis Cemetery, Nashua.

Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Visiting Nurses Association, 29 Lafayette Road, No. Hampton, NH 03862.

Edward F. Mears Jr.

KINGSTON - Edward F. Mears Jr., 82, of Windsong Drive, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at the Brigham Manor Nursing Home, Newburyport, Mass.

He was born Jan. 21, 1920, in Essex, Mass., the son of Edward F. and Marjorie (Atwater) Mears Sr. He was raised in Essex and had resided in West Newbury, Mass. for 20 years, in Lynn, Mass., for 15 years and in Hill before moving to Kingston four years ago.

He was a 1937 graduate of Essex High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Mears was a school teacher in the sheet metal class at Lynn Trade School, now known as Lynn Vocational Technical Institute, retiring in 1980. He had previously worked for General Electric Co. in Lynn.

He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and was an honorary member of the Newburyport, Mass., Lynn, Bristol, Kingston and Andover lodges. He was awarded the Major John Sullivan Award. He was a life member of the American Legion Post No. 0291 in Lynn.

The widower of Barbara (Handy) Mears, who died in 2000, he is survived by one son and his wife, David and Peggy Mears of Newburyport; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Rafe Blood of Kensington and Elizabeth and Peter Tingley of Newbury, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, David A Mears of Essex; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. in Kensington Congregational Church with the Rev. David Lennox officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rockingham VNA & Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833. or to the Kingston Volunteer Ambulance Department, 163 Main St., Kingston, NH 03848.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Robert J. McMenimen

EPPING - Robert J. McMenimen, 68, of Hackett Court, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, after a lengthy illness.

He was born March 12, 1934, in Boston, Mass., the son of the late Louis and Hilda (Ready) McMenimen. He resided in Revere, Mass., for 15 years before moving to Epping in 1987.

Mr. McMenimen was a baker and manager for Shop-N-Save for many years and retired as a machinist from the Gillette Co., after 15 years of service. In his younger years he played semi-professional basketball.

He was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Rose (White) McMenimen of Epping; four sons, Scott McMenimen of Idaho, Ronald McMenimen of Saugus, Mass., Douglas McMenimen of Tewksbury, Mass., and Kenneth Langone of Las Vegas; two daughters, Roberta Lombardi of Peabody, Mass., and Leeann Lavorati of Fitchburg, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.

A family gathering was held Sunday at the family home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Epping.

Shirley Y. Wells

SEABROOK - Shirley Y. Wells, 64, of 18 Ledge Road, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 13, 1938, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of the late Emma Fu. She had resided in Amesbury, Mass., for 25 years and had recently moved to Seabrook.

Mrs. Wells was a dietary aide at the former Amesbury Hospital until her retirement.

She enjoyed reading and gardening and spending time with her family.

She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Renae and Jeffrey Campbell, with whom she made her home, Donna and Mark Lickteig and Shari and Paul Guptill; six grandchildren; three brothers, Lawrence, Harry and Henry Fu, all of Hawaii; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one brother, Robert Fu.

Private services were under the direction of the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, Amesbury, Mass.

Stellario W. Amante

RYE - Stellario W. "Larry" Amante, 88, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.

He was born Jan. 3, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Giuseppe and Giuseppa (Ruello) Amante. He had resided in Lawrence, Mass., moving to Rye in 1974. He wintered in Hollywood, Fla., for 16 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with Gen. Patton's 3rd Army.

Mr. Amante owned and operated Larry's Wholesale Florist in Lawrence for several years.

He was a past governor and life member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Lawrence; a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in North Reading, Mass.; and was a former communicant of St. Patrick Church, Lawrence.

The widower of Concetta "Connie" (Ruggiero) Amante, his wife of 53 years who died in 1989, he is survived by one son and his wife, Joseph R. and Aurelie Amante of Hampton; one daughter, J. Joyce Branco of Lawrence; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Amante of Lawrence; three sisters, Mary Percouco of Carson City, Nev., Martha Paul of No. Andover, Mass., and Mafalda McDermott of Woburn, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Rye.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Phyllis M. Rust

HAMPTON - Phyllis M. Rust, 74, of 7 Hemlock Haven, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, in Exeter Hospital.

She was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Beverly, Mass., the daughter of the late George and Velma (Groce) Gosbee. She had resided in Hampton for 20 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Coleen A. Gale of Salem; two sons, Kenneth Rust of California and Mark Rust of Hampton; one granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in North Beverly Cemetery, Beverly.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Doris E. Simpson

EXETER - Doris E. Simpson, 84, of 5 Auburn St., died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Exeter Healthcare after a brief illness.

She was born June 11, 1918, in Exeter, the daughter of the late John and Ida (Moore) Noonan and was a lifelong resident of Exeter.

She was formerly a nurse practitioner at the Exeter Clinic.

She was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter, and was a member of the Exeter Women's Club; past president of the Exeter Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary; and an active volunteer at Exeter Healthcare.

The widow of retired Exeter Fire Chief Ray Simpson Sr., she is survived by one son, Kensington Fire Department Chief Ray Simpson Jr. of Exeter; one daughter, Martha Simpson of Portsmouth; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; one brother, John Noonan of Hampton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral services were held Monday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter, with the Rev. David Lennox officiating. Burial was in Exeter Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department, 124 Amesbury Road, Kensington, NH 03833.

Eleanor B. Brown

SOUTH PARIS, Maine - Eleanor B. (Corriveau) Brown, 75, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Arlington, Mass., the daughter of the late Lucien and Angela (Jacques) Corriveau. She was raised and educated in Danvers and Middleton, Mass., and had resided in Salem, Mass., for 30 years before moving to Seabrook. She had resided in Maine for 10 years.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by one daughter, Elaine Theriault of Exeter; one son, K. Wayne Brown of Salem; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Wolfe of Nova Scotia; two brothers, Robert Corriveau and Lucien R. Corriveau, both of Peabody, Mass.; one daughter-in-law, Marie Brown of Beverly, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Marc Brown and Joseph Theriault.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in Immaculate Conception Church, Salem. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.

Arrangements were by the O'Donnell Funeral Home, Salem, Mass.

Joan D. Coates

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Joan Darlene Coates, 64, died August 29, 2002, after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.

She was born Nov. 21, 1937, in Bellingham, the daughter of Lee A. and Helen C. Park.

She was a graduate of Bellingham High School and attended Western Washington University.

Mrs. Coates attended local bible studies, M.S. Society functions and Easter Seal events. She was chosen to represent the Easter Seals in 1990 and fulfilled many duties as their adult ambassador.

Her desire to educate on the daily obstacles of the disabled was paramount to her involvement with the Easter Seal Society.

She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Christine and Laurence Leslie; four grandchildren; one sister, Colleen Quady; and one brother, Gene Park.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. in Beck's Funeral Home, 405 5th Ave. S., Edmonds, Wash.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Easter Seals, 521 2nd Ave. W., Seattle, WA 98119.

William J. Daly

FREMONT - William J. Daly, 91, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

He was born April 17, 1911, in Charlestown, Mass., the son of the late Robert W. and Janet Daly. He had resided in Massachusetts, Exeter, Kingston, and in Jacksonville, Fla., for two years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Daly was a civil engineer for Camp Dresser and McKee in Boston.

He was a member of P.T. Boaters Association. An avid bowler, he was a member of several bowling leagues in Exeter.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucille (McCombe) Daly of Fremont; two daughters, Jan Polgar of Colebrook and Lyn Saunders of Jacksonville; one son, Robert W. Daly of Marston Mills, Mass.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers John Daly of Kalamazoo, Mich., and James Daly of Bath, Maine; one sister, Irene Spinney of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond.
