Melvin F. Moul

BRENTWOOD - Melvin F. Moul, 84, of Middle Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.

He was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Manchester, son of the late Jonathan and Anne (McIntyre) Moul.

Mr. Moul grew up in Manchester and was a graduate of Central High School. He worked for many years as a truck driver with Dearborn’s Express. He was a member of the local Teamster’s Union. He spent the last 53 years as a resident of Brentwood.

He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.

Mr. Moul is survived by his wife, Helen M. Moul of Brentwood; two daughters, Patricia Higgins of Denver, Colo., and Susan DeHart of Auburn; one son, David Moul of Goffstown; three sisters, Gertrude Marcotte of Lady Lake, Fla., Alice Prescott of Bath, and Irene Savoie of DeBary, Fla.; one brother, Robert Moul of Newton; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours and services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Rockingham VNA & Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Jake Foster Murch

LEE -Jake Foster Murch, 23-day-old son of Chet and Michelia (Foster) Murch, died Oct. 16, 2002 at Children’s Hospital, Boston.

He was born Sept. 23, 2002, in Lebanon.

In addition to his parents of Lee, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, David and Dianne Foster of Leeds, Mass.; paternal grandfather William Murch of Epping; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Patricia Murch who died in 1986.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Epping Community Church, Epping, with Pastor Wayne Van Gundy officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Epping.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to David’s House Inc., 461 Mt. Support Road, P.O. Box 660, Lebanon, NH 03966.

Don Ferguson

EXETER - Don Ferguson died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Langdon Place in Exeter.

He moved to Exeter with his wife, Polly, and two sons, Alec and Bruce, from Rollinsford to Exeter in the summer of 1959.

Mr. Ferguson was an active member of the Congregational Church in Exeter and was active in the Masons, the Boy Scouts of America, and his church.

He is survived by his sons and grandchildren. In 1995, he was predeceased by his wife, who he married in 1938.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Congregational Church, Exeter.

Memorial donations may be made to the Portland Observatory c/o Greater Portland Landmarks, 165 State St., Portland, ME 04101.

Madeline L. Evans

KINGSTON - Madeline Louise Evans, 75, of Main Street, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born July 13, 1927, in Kingston, the daughter of the late Morton E. and Helen A. (Page) Robie and was a lifelong resident of Kingston.

She was a 1945 graduate of Sanborn Seminary.

Mrs. Evans was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She attended Kingston Congregational Church.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Arthur W. Evans Jr. of Kingston; two sons and their wives, Arthur "Skip" Evans III and Carol Ann of Campton and Kevin S. and Julie Evans of Milan; one daughter and her husband, Kelly Ann and Victor Witham of Exeter; six grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn J. Robie of Kingston; three brothers, Loren Robie and Forrest Robie, both of Kingston, and Carroll G. Robie of Fremont; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Wesley M. Robie and Bernard E. Robie.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Wendall Irvine officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston.

Alexander de Coninck Garroway

STRATHAM - Alexander George de Coninck Garroway, 19, died Oct. 18, 2002, at his home.

"Big Al" lives on in the hearts of all who love him.

He is survived by family members in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, North Carolina, California and France.

Private burial was at Abel’s Hill in Chilmark, Mass.

Memorial donations may be made to the N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.

Sarah L. Lawson

RYE - Sarah Lee Lawson, 92, of Washington Road, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Webster at Rye.

She was born in Jefferson, S.C., the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lula (Horton) Ogburn. She had resided South Kingstown, R.I., most of her life moving to Rye four years ago.

She was a graduate of Winthrop College in South Carolina and received her master’s degree from Hartford Seminary, Hartford, Conn.

Mrs. Lawson was a kindergarten teacher in the South Kingstown school system for many years.

She was a member of the Peace Dale Congregational Church.

The widow of the Rev. Robert V. Lawson, former pastor of Peace Dale Congregational Church, she is survived by one daughter, Lucretia Cupples of Rehoboth, Mass.; one son, Peter O. Lawson of Germany; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Nov. 3, at 1:30 p.m. in Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia St., Peace Dale, R.I. Burial will in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston, R.I.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia St., Peace Dale, RI 02879.

Charles L. Norton

NEWMARKET - Charles L. Norton, 99, formerly of Packers Falls Road, died October 24, 2002, at Dover Rehabilitation & Living Center.

He was born July 14, 1903, in Newmarket, the son of Carl E. and Elsie (French) Norton, whose family was the holder of a King’s Grant of land in Newmarket. He wintered in New Port Richey, Fla., from 1970 until 1986.

Mr. Norton was a machinist at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1968. After retiring he built several homes in the area, the last of which was started when he was 75 years old.

He was awarded the Boston Post Cane from Newmarket on January 18, 2001, as recognition for being the oldest resident of the town.

The widower of Ruth L. (Morse) (Roulo) Norton, who died in 1995, he is survived by one son, Robert E. Norton of Dover; four stepchildren, William Roulo and Philip Roulo, both of Newmarket, Sandra LaBranche of Stratham and Margaret Sklarski of Deerfield; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one son, Charles V. Norton.

Burial will be in the Norton Private Graveyard, Newmarket.

Priscilla J. Wade

EDGEWATER, Fla. - Priscilla J. Wade, 75, of Fernald Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, in Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, Fla.

She was born in Portsmouth moving to Florida in 1993 from Ipswich, Mass., having been a winter visitor since 1987.

Mrs. Wade was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, cooking and sewing.

She is survived by her husband, Ed Wade; three sons, Robert Wade and Michael Wade, both of Ipswich, and Stephen Wade of Leominster, Mass.; two daughters, Linda Smolack of Seabrook and Lynne Rawak of Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Settle-Wilder Edgewater Chapel, 1620 Edgewater Drive, Edgewater.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. John Barry of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, officiating.

Lawrence M. Corliss Sr.

KINGSTON - Lawrence Merrill Corliss Sr., 65, of Page Road, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, in Concord Hospital, Concord.

He was born in Winchester, Mass., the son of Christina (Neal) Wood of Seabrook and the late Ferdinand Corliss. He had resided in Kingston for 39 years and wintered in Ruskin, Fla.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Mr. Corliss was an electronics technician for Raytheon in Andover, Mass., for 36 years, working on the Hawk Missile Program.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 505 of Kensington, the Kingston Masonic Lodge, and was co-founder of the Flying Iron Horseshoe League of Kingston.

He was an avid outdoorsman and camping enthusiast, and enjoyed golf and woodworking.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 43 years, Teresa H. (Walton) Corliss of Kingston; two daughters, Marcia E. Kelly of Dunbarton and Denise N. Taylor of Plaistow; two sons, Lawrence M. Corliss Jr. of Exeter and John F. Corliss of Hillsborough; five grandchildren; five sisters, Winnifred Jacques of Rye, Patricia Corliss of Rochester, Vivian Marland of Seabrook, Carolyn Yoder of LaPorte, Ind., and Margorie Knowles of Elkhart, Ind.; one stepsister, Aurdrey Eaton of Seabrook; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held today, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the N.H. Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.

Elizabeth Atherton

EXETER - Elizabeth "Betty" (Klatt) Atherton, 85, of Langdon Place, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, following a lengthy illness.

She was born and raised in Berkeley, Calif., and came to Newburyport, Mass., in 1946. She resided in West Newbury for more 50 years in the home that she and her husband designed and built.

Mrs. Atherton was a volunteer at Anna Jaques Hospital for more than 35 years and was active with the Pentucket Regional Scholarship Foundation for many years.

She served as the first president of the Massachusetts Chapter of Retreads, a motorcycle club for riders over 40, and with her husband, rode her own motorcycle with the group well into her 70s.

During different periods of her life, she enjoyed horseback riding, skiing, snowmobiling, oil painting, bridge, gardening, furniture building and traveling. She was a skilled seamstress and gourmet cook.

The widow of LeBaron "Lee" Atherton, she is survived by one daughter, Caro* Callie" Currier of West Newbury; one son and his wife, LeBaron S. "Barry" and Denise Atherton of West Newbury; three grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Flynn of Kensington, Calif.; one brother, Robert Klatt of Walnut Grove, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. at the Unitarian, First Religious Society, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Anna Jaques Hospital Community Health Foundation, 25 Highland Ave., Newburyport, MA 01950, to the Pentucket Regional Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 36, Groveland, MA 01834 or to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
