Clinton E. Wheeler Sr.

HAMPTON - Clinton E. Wheeler Sr., 92, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Seacoast Health Center, where he had resided for two years.

He was born July 1, 1910, in Nashua, the son of the late Walter E. and Mabel E. (Conner) Wheeler.

He was raised in Manchester and resided in North Hampton and Hampton for many years.

He was a graduate of the New Hampton School for Boys in New Hampton.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. His military career began in 1938 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant in 1959 with more than 21 years of active service.

He enjoyed owning and driving his Corvettes over the years.

The widower of Helene M. (Shapleigh) Wheeler, who died in 1978, he is survived by one son, Charles E. Wheeler Jr. of California; two grandchildren; one brother, David Wheeler of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Roger E. Wilson

BRADFORD, Mass. - Roger E. Wilson, 74, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, in Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill, Mass.

He was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Haverhill, the son of the late Edward and Emma (Fox) Wilson and was a lifelong resident of Haverhill.

He summered in Hampton for 17 years.

He was a 1946 graduate of Haverhill High School and received his master’s degree from Boston University.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1946 until 1948.

Mr. Wilson was employed by Western Electric for 37 years, retiring in 1990. He had also taught personnel management at Northern Essex Community College.

He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Bradford.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley A. (Staples) Wilson of Bradford; one son and his wife, Gary S. and Karla Wilson of Lynn, Mass.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Lynne D. and Mark Barnes and Jayne L. and Raymond Stewart, all of Haverhill, Susan C. Wilson of Methuen, Mass., and Sandra J. and Kenneth LeBlanc of Haverhill; eight grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Delisle of Hampton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the First Church of Christ, 10 Church St., Bradford. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford.

Arrangements were by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, Bradford.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Church of Christ Steeple Restoration Fund, 10 Church St., Bradford, MA 01835.

Norma B. Baker

EXETER - Norma Bowen Baker, 79, of Front Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Exeter Hospital.

She was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Springfield, Mass., the daughter of the late Peter F. and Anna (Ricard) Bowen. She was raised in the New England area.

Mrs. Baker taught elementary school in Springfield for several years and at the Broad River School in Norwalk, Conn., for more than 10 years.

She enjoyed traveling.

The widow of Nicholas Baker, she is survived by one daughter, Lynn Baker-Resnick of East Kingston; one son, Andrew Baker of Meadham, N.J.; and four grandchildren.

There are no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Friday, at 11 a.m. in Exeter Cemetery.

Please omit flowers.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Rita O. Clark

EPPING - Rita O. Clark, 68, of 70 Pleasant St., died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, in Exeter Hospital.

She was born Sept. 7, 1934, in Boston, the daughter of the late Cecil and Maye Adkins. She resided in Connecticut and Massachusetts before moving to Epping 12 years ago.

Mrs. Clark was an assembler for the Basf Company in Burlington, Mass.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Epping, and was a member of the choir. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Post No. 51 of Epping.

The widower of Theodore S. Clark, she is survived by one son, Michael G. Pond of Epping; one daughter, Rita B. Crocker of Epping; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sr. Shirley Adkins of Ohio and Dorothy Perry of Epping; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Joseph Church, Epping. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping.

Arrangements were by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

Gloria R. Fournier

QUINCY, Mass. - Gloria R. (Gaulin) Fournier, 81, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at her home.

She was born in East Angus, Canada, and had resided in Exeter for 58 years before moving to Quincy four years ago.

Mrs. Fournier was the cafeteria manager at Sylvania Electric in Exeter for 10 years, retiring in 1980. She had previously worked at Wise Shoe Factory.

The widow of Gerard F. Fournier, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, Cindy S. and Ralph Granata of Quincy; two sons, Richard G. Fournier and his wife Janice of West Haven, Conn., and Robert G. Fournier of Exeter; one brother, Joseph Gaulin of Florida; two sisters, Pierrette Stone and Hazel Gaulin, both of Exeter; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one son, Ronald Fournier.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday in St. John Church, Quincy. Burial was in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, Mass.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research. P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.

Arrangements were by the Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy.

Romeo Lemieux

NEWMARKET - Romeo "Rainbow" Lemieux, 81, of 53 Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, following a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 25, 1921, in his family’s home on Spring Street in Newmarket, the son of Homer J. and Helen (Roy) Lemieux.

He was a graduate of St. Mary Elementary School. After graduation he went to work in the Newmarket mills to help support his family during the Depression.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a signalman, second class, aboard the USS Riverside in the Pacific Theater. After returning home from the war he purchased a duplex home on Nichols Avenue.

Mr. Lemieux was an automatic heel and shoe laster for Rockingham Shoe Company, retiring in 1984 after 20 years of service. He had previously owned Rainbow’s Shoe Store on Main Street in Newmarket during the 1950s.

He was a 61-year member of Lamprey Aerie No. 1934, Fraternal Order of Eagles; was a member of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post 67; and the American Citizens Club of Polish Descent, all in Newmarket.

He had a lifelong passion for bowling and was a pin boy in the old Newmarket bowling alley above Brisson’s Meat Market on Main Street . He bowled his last game in April at the North Main Street bowling lanes.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Theresa (Roy) Lemieux of Newmarket; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Roy Lemieux and Ron and Cindy Lemieux, all of Newmarket; one daughter and her husband, Robin and Shaun Sharples of Newmarket; three granddaughters; two brothers, Paul Lemieux of Dover and Raymond Lemieux of Florida; four sisters, Jeannette Stokel of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Leona Butler of Newmarket, Doris Houle of Pasadena, Calif., and Pauline Schanda of Newmarket; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Kent and Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Road, Newmarket. American Legion services will be conducted Friday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Newmarket, with the Rev. John Finnigan officiating. Military burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

Jeannette Proulx

EXETER - Jeannette Proulx, 95, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at SunBridge Nursing Home, Exeter.

She was born March 25, 1907, in Suncook, the daughter of the late Jean-Baptiste and Corona (LaPlant) Desrosiers. She resided several years in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and in Greenville, Suncook, Manchester and East Hampstead, moving to Exeter seven years ago.

The widow of Antonio H. Proulx, who died in 1973, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, Janet DeFreitas-Bergin and Benson L. Bergin of Saint Thomas; one brother, Armand Desrosiers of Exeter; several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Saturday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Front Street, Exeter.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church. Burial will be in Greenville at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chamberlain Free Public Library, Main Street, Greenville, NH 03048.

Arthur E. Appleton

RAYMOND - Arthur E. Appleton, 71, of Fremont Road, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Exeter after a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Lynn, Mass., the son of the late Roland L. and Lillian V. (Taylor) Appleton. He was raised in Lynn and had resided in Raymond for 25 years.

He was educated in Lynn schools and was a 1991 graduate of Essex Agricultural School in Danvers, Mass.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring as a master sergeant.

Mr. Appleton was a teacher’s aide at the Lamprey River Elementary School and Raymond Middle School for nine years.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans; a member of the Queen City Pool League, Manchester; and the Deerhead Sportsman Club, Hooksett.

He enjoyed collecting stamps.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara (Beaulieu) Appleton of Raymond; one son, Donald Appleton of Berwick, Maine; three daughters, Donna Howell of Exeter, Claire Sutton of Londonderry and Cindy Appleton of Manchester; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Hardy of Conway and Jane Nevins of Salem, Mass.; one brother, Robert Appleton of Lynn; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, On the Common, Raymond. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Kwan Lee officiating. Military burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Raymond Ambulance Department, Scribner Road, Raymond, NH 03077.

Elaine M. Buote

EXETER - Elaine M. (Gorrow) Buote, 81, of Lawrence, Mass., died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Exeter Hospital.

She was born and raised in Lawrence and spent most of her life in New Hampshire.

Mrs. Buote worked at the former Western Electric, now Lucent Technologies, in North Andover, Mass.

The widow of Nelson "Tex" Buote, she is survived by one son and his wife, Ronald N. and Linda Buote of Watson, N.Y.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol A. and Paul Kendall of Wolfeboro, Donna J. and Robert LaChance of Hampton and Nancy Feole of Haverhill, Mass.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Anzaldi of Lawrence and Jeanne Diette of Westford, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Arthur J. Scott Funeral Home, 298 South Broadway, Lawrence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Lawrence.
