Dominic O. Fiumara

HAMPTON - Dominic Oratzio Fiumara, 85, of 22 Tuck Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Seacoast Health Center after a period of declining health.

He was born April 5, 1917, in Messina, Italy, the son of Santi and Giovanna Fiumara and came to the United States in 1950.

He was educated in Italy and joined the Italian Army serving as a medic nurse, and later served as a local hospital administrator in Messina.

Mr. Fiumara was a barber and owned and operated Franklin Park Barber Shop in Roslindale, Mass., for 43 years. He volunteered throughout the years at many nursing homes donating his services.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading the National Geographic Magazine.

The widower of Margaret (DeMaggio) Fiumara, who died in 1997, he is survived by one daughter and her husband, Cettarose "Tina" and Micheal F. Carson of Attleboro, Mass.; two granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by four brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday in the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, Hampton.

Richard F. Hartnett

EXETER - Richard F. Hartnett of Exeter and Stuart, Fla., died Dec. 10, 2002, in Stuart.

He was born Jan. 19, 1920, in Jamaica Plain, Mass. He resided in Mobile, Ala., and in Hamilton, Mass., before coming to Exeter.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving four years in the South Pacific as a combat air crewman of a patrol bomber plane with Squadron 16 attached to the USS Pocomoke. He was awarded the Air Medal by Adm. John Nathan, Commander of the third fleet.

Mr. Hartnett was employed by Eastern Air Lines in Mobile and in Massachusetts. He was an account executive in Boston at radio station WEEI from 1954 until 1984 when he joined WRKO for two years, retiring in 1986.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna (Exline) Hartnett; one son, Richard W. Hartnett of Rowley, Mass.; two daughters, Nancy Thatcher of Fairlee, Vt., and Lisa Hartnett of Salem, Mass.; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Laffert of Lynnfield, Mass.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Christ Church Episcopal, 43 Pine St., Exeter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christ Church Memorial Fund or to the charity one’s choice.

Andrew McLaughlin

STRATHAM - Andrew "A.J." McLaughlin, 45, of 163 Bunker Hill Ave., was pronounced dead Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, upon his arrival at Exeter Hospital after snow blowing at his home.

He was born Jan. 3, 1958, in Hartford, Conn., the son of Doris (Holer) McLaughlin of Hartford and the late Thomas McLaughlin, and had resided in Stratham for 20 years.

Mr. McLaughlin was employed as a propane meter reader for Northern Utilities in Portsmouth.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 16 years, Marcia (Perkins) McLaughlin of Stratham; four daughters, Kristin McLaughlin and Sarah McLaughlin, both of Waterford, Conn., and Lauren McLaughlin and Lindsay McLaughlin, both of Stratham; one granddaughter; two sisters, Doris McLaughlin of Manchester, Conn., and Mary Ellen McLaughlin of Niantic, Conn.

He was predeceased by one brother, Thomas McLaughlin.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. in Faith Lutheran Church, 4 Elm St., Exeter, with the Rev. Steven Bartell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a scholarship fund for his daughters at Community Bank and Trust, 80 Main St., Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Melvin F. Moul

BRENTWOOD - Melvin F. Moul, 84, of Middle Road, died Oct. 15, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.

He was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Manchester, the son of the late Jonathan and Anne (McIntyre) Moul. He was raised in Manchester and had resided in Brentwood for 53 years.

He was a graduate of Manchester Central High School and was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran.

Mr. Moul was a truck driver with Dearborn’s Express and was a member of the Local Teamsters union.

He is survived by his wife, Helen M. Moul of Brentwood; two daughters, Patricia Higgins of Denver, Colo., and Susan DeHart of Auburn; one son, David Moul of Goffstown; five grandchildren; three sisters, Gertrude Marcotte of Lady Lake, Fla.; Alice Prescott of Bath and Irene Savoie of DeBary, Fla.; one brother, Robert Moul of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Route 111A, Brentwood with the Rev. Kim McCurley officiating. A reception will follow in the church vestry.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Rockingham VNA & Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Edward Reick

SEABROOK - Edward Reick, 58, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and was a graduate of Grafton High School.

He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam War and was highly decorated.

Mr. Reick was a painter for Plastek Co., Newburyport, Mass., for several years.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting.

The widower of Christa Reick, who died Oct. 12, 2002, he is survived by two sons, George D. Wynegar of North Carolina and Jerry Campbell and his wife Christine of Hudson; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Wendy and Earl Twiddy, Monica L. Reick of Seabrook, Petra and Michael Parker of Merrimac, Mass., and Cathy and Michael Media of Hudson; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven brothers, Paul of Milwaukee, Wis., John of Saukville, Wis., Ray of CedarBerg, Wis., Tom, Larry, Robert and Richard, all of Grafton; four sisters, Irene Reick of Grafton, Shirley Seich of Sheboygan, Wis., Linda Skelton of Jackson , Wis., and Joanne Landing of Graton; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen, Mass.

Funeral services and burial will be in Wisconsin at the convenience of the family.

Joseph W. Taylor

EXETER - Joseph W. Taylor, 56, of Alder Street, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.

He was born Jan. 5, 1946, in Beverly, Mass., the son of the late Charles J. and Lillian (Thibeault) Taylor. He was raised in Beverly and had lived in Exeter for four years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Mr. Taylor was a machinist at Bodycote Thermal Processing in Ipswich, Mass.

He is survived by one daughter, Wendy T. Larocque of Ft. Kent, Maine; one son, Joseph Taylor Jr. of Tennessee; four grandchildren; one sister, Jacqueline Lang of Salem, Mass.; and his former wife, Judith Taylor of Exeter.

Private services will be held Tuesday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Spring burial will be in Salem, Mass.

Wings M. Willey

NEWMARKET - Wings M. Willey, 80, of Sleepy Hollow Park, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare after a period of failing health.

She was born March 10, 1922, in Evansville, Ind., the daughter of William and Larchie (Hensley) Jordan. She had lived in Durham for many years before moving to Newmarket in 1989.

Mrs. Willey was a member of the Fuller-Covey Veterans of Foreign Wars Unit 2181 of Exeter; Oasis; American Association of Retired Persons; Newmarket Senior Citizens, where she served as president, treasurer and secretary; the American Citizens Club of Polish Descent; and was a life member of the Newmarket Historical Society.

The widow of Robert D. Willey, who died in 1990, she is survived by several nieces and nephews; and her close friend, Charles Johnston.

Funeral services were held Sunday in the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket, with the Rev. David Wuori officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford, NH 03110.

Theda J. Caldwell

EXETER - Theda Jackson Caldwell died Monday, Dec. 6, 2002, at RiverWoods Retirement Community.

She was born in Morrisville, Vt., and had resided in Farmington, Conn., and New Smyrna Beach, Fla., before moving to Exeter eight years ago.

She was a graduate of Plymouth Normal School.

Mrs. Caldwell enjoyed golf, flower arranging, traveling and was an accomplished ballroom dancer.

She is survived by two sons, Stuart T. Lewis of Dover and Richard Lewis of Bend, Ore.; one daughter, Linda Francis of Westport, Conn.; two grandsons; one great-grandson; and four daughters-in-law.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Milton E. Lewis; her second husband, Boyd Caldwell; and one brother, Gilman Jackson.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833, or to Rockingham VNA & Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Robert Cushman

EXETER - Robert Cushman, 86, of Exeter and Naples, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at RiverWoods after a lengthy illness.

He was born April 29, 1916, in Winchester, Mass., the son of Norman and Madeline (Porter) Cushman.

He was a 1935 graduate of Phillips Andover Academy and a 1939 graduate of Dartmouth College. He received an honorary DBA from Anna Maria College in 1981.

Mr. Cushman was the former chairman of the board of the Norton Company of Worcester, Mass. He began his career with Gulf Oil Corporation before joining the Norton Company in 1944 as a sales trainee. He later became vice-president and general manager of the abrasive division, and director of the company in 1961. From 1971 through 1979 he led the transformation of a century-old family business into a multi-national corporation. He retired in 1980 as an active employee, but continued as chairman of the board until 1985.

He served on the boards of many other corporations including the Paine Webber Group, Houghton Mifflin Co., Almerica Financial and Instron Corp.

Mr. Cushman served as president and director of the Greater Worcester Community Foundation Inc.; chairman and director of the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology; director of the American Antiquarian Society; and trustee of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Quinsagamond College.

He was an overseer of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration, Dartmouth College. He served as vice-chairman of the Polish-U.S. Economic Council and vice-chairman of the Massachusetts Board of Regents of Higher Education.

He was an avid fisherman, golfer and woodworker and was a member of the Worcester Club; Tatnuck Country Club; Black Brook Salmon Club, and the Worcester Fire Society. In Naples, he was a member of the Hole-in-the-Wall Golf Club and the Naples Yacht Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Shorey) Cushman of Naples and Exeter; two daughters, Mary C. Higgins of Chestnut Hill, Mass., and Louise C. Paquette of Hanover; four grandchildren; one grandson; one sister, Madeline Stuckey of Castine, Maine, and Exeter.

He was predeceased by one brother, Gardner Cushman.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. in First Unitarian Church, 90 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Barbara Merritt officiating.

Private graveside services will be held in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology, 1 Lincoln Square, 15 Belmont St., Worcester, MA 01605.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Pauline M. Fournier

PORTSMOUTH - Pauline M. Fournier, 82, of 140 Court St., died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at the Edgewood Centre.

She was born May 17, 1920, in Sherman, Maine, the daughter of the late William and Alice (Fortin) Markie. She was a longtime resident of Millinocket, Maine, moving to Augusta, Maine, in 1968, and had resided in Portsmouth since 1982.

Mrs. Fournier was a dietitian at Augusta General Hospital for 15 years.

The widow of Wayne O. Fournier, who died in 1975, she is survived by one son, Frederick M. Fournier of Hampton; one daughter, Paulette S. Day of Sanford, Maine; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by five brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services were held Thursday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. Burial was in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
