Robert D. Mattson

Robert D. Mattson died at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He was 54 years old. Born in Brooklyn, NY he moved to Green Pond, New Kersey 21 years ago. He was the Senior Vice President for Fiducuary Trust Company International in New York, NY for 30 years. Mr. Mattson attended Cardinal Farley Military Accademy in in 1965, and the College of Santa Fe, NM in 1969. He was in the Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He also was former president of the Green Pond Board of Directors, and Formere Little League & Baskettball coach in Rockaway Township, NJ. Mr. Mattson was a member of the New York State Bankers Association.

Mr. Mattson was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (nee Higgins) and loving father of Jean and James Mattson.

Son of Marguerite Mattson and brother of one.

A memorial Mass will be held on October 13, at 10:30AM, at St. Catherine of Siena R.C. Church in Mt. Lakes, NJ.

Earline "Mac" McLaurin
Retired Picatinny Employee

Earline "Mac" McLaurin born January 23, 1920 in Lumberton, NC departed after a long illness on October 5, 2001 at the Continuing Care Pavilion Dover, NJ. Earline lived in Lumberton, NC and moved to Elizabethtown, NC where she attended Bladen County Training School and graduated Cum Laude. She then moved to Philadelphia, PA in 1937 and worked at Frankford Arsenal from 1941 then moved to Rockaway, NJ and worked at Picatinny Arsenal from 1978 till her retirement in 1988. After her retirement she moved moved back to Philadelphia. PA to be with her family. Her pastime favorites were gardening, watching sports with her grandsons and barbecuing. She will be remembered by family and friends for her unselfish acts of giving caring support.

Mrs. McLaurin is survived by a daughter Gwendolyn Osborne. Grandchildren Timothy and Tracy Osborne, Ginger Harris and her husband Thomas Harris. A sister Laurestein Gill and her husband Roscoe Gill Sr. Nieces Rosalind, Kathy, Nephews Delmar and the late Roscoe Gill Jr. Grand Nieces and Nephews Heather, Natalia, Nadezsha, Karan, Nantambu, and Paul. Great Grand Nieces and Nephews Devon, Christina, Charles, Charan, Syndey, Nia, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Frank Page Jr. Funeral Home 1748 West Erie Ave., Philadelphia, PA on Tuesday Oct. 9th at 1:00PM followed by interment at Mt.Lawn cemetery.

A tribute will be held at her home in Rockaway on Saturday Oct.13th at 6: 0PM for family and care givers, 7-9PM for friends and family.

DAVID REED BRYAN

David Reed Bryan died Friday November 9, 2001 at the Morris Hills Center in Morristown, NJ, he was 74. He was co-owner and operator of D & D Tree Surgery in Morristwon. Born in Manchester, TN, He lived in Morristown since 1957, and prior in Morris Township since 1947. He was local Arbourist and avid guitar player.

He is survived by his wife Dian (Worley), Son, David M. Bryan, Daughters; Debra J. Hacker, Rea Denise Frenze, Darlene E. Bryan, and Connie Dian Bryan. Grandchildren; Jacklyn, Melissa, and Michael. Great Grandson; Christian.

A private service will be held at the funeral home on November 12, and the interment will be held on Saturday November 17, in Manchester, TN.

STELLA KRYSA

Stella Krysa (Nee Koval) died on Thursday November 8, 2001 at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville, NJ. She was 75. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Stella moved to Newark, NJ and then to Denville in 1967. Retiring in 1992, she worked for 12 years in Quality Control at Pfizer Pharmaceutical in Morris Plains, NJ. She was a member of the St. Catherine's prayer group and the senior citizens gruop.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday November 12, at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Mt. Lakes, NJ at 10:00AM. Interment will be at the Denville cemetery in Denville. Frances Loretta Callaghan Barkow

Frances Loretta Callaghan Barkow (Nee Crate) Died on Thursday November 15, 2001, at the Tally-Ho Manor in Boonton Twp., NJ, She was 86.

Born in Newark, NJ she lived in Rockaway, NJ and in Hanover twp., NJ. She had been a homemaker to the Late James T. Callaghan who passed away in 1972, and their daughter Maureen Hartman of Rockaway, and sons; William & Dennis Callaghan of Waretown, NJ and Dingman's Ferry, PA. Their late son James died in 1983. She is

the loving wife of second husband Eugene Barkow of Hanover twp., NJ. and grandmother of 8, and Great Grandmother of 2. Her sister, the Late Marion Barkow died previously.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday November 17, at 9:30 AM. Friends may visit at 9:00 AM. Interment will be at the Gate of Heaven cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.

F. Gordon Hand, MD

F. Gordon Hand, MD died Friday Nov. 16th at the St. Clares Hospital Denville, NJ.

Dr. Hand was 87 years old.

Dr. Hand born in South Orange, NJ summered in Cedar Lake section of Denville, NJ. Dr. Hand moved to Denville 24 years ago.

Dr. Hand attened Temple University and also became a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine in 1942. He had a private practice as a Vascular and General Surgeon in South Orange for over 50 years retiring in 1987.

Dr.Hand was amember of the Medical Society of New Jersey. His interests were wood working and was a very artistic painter and an avid gardener.

Dr. Hand is survived by his wife Beatrice L. (nee Nixon) and his three sons Geoffrey of Parlin, NJ, David of Fairfax, VA, and Richard of Stanhope, NJ. Also four grandchildren.

Funeral services are on Monday Nov. 19th at 10AM at the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ (973)-627-1880. Friends will be received Sunday Nov. 18th at 2-4 and 7-9PM

Laurence E. Leamer
Ph.D. in Economics

Laurence E. Leamer, 87, of Denville, New Jersey died peacefully on November 16th.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, and three sons and their wives- Laurence and Vesna Leamer of Palm Beach, FL and Washington, DC, Edward and Ama Leamer of Los Angeles, CA and Robert and Mary Frances Leamer of Chatham, New Jersey. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandsons. Staphanie and Raymond Tuttle and their three sons of Salem, Oregon, Abigail and Charles Staton and son of Bellevue, Washington, Daniela and Antonio Mantillo of Oakland, CA., Stephen Leamer student at the University of Chicago, Michael Leamer student at Occidental College, Christina Leamer student at Hofstra. He is also survived by two step grandchildren, Sean and Gretchen O'Shea of Woodside, New York.

Mr. Leamer received his Ph.D degree in Economics from the University of Chicago where he taught from 1940- 1950. He served two years in the 9th Army in Europe during WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star.

In 1951 Professor Leamer moved from Chicago to Vestal, New York, to teach in the Economics Department at Harpur College where he later servived as Chairman of the Social Sciences Division. In 1975 he retired and became Professor Emeritus of the State University of New York in Binghamton.

In Retirement, Larry actively pursued his passion for research and writing. He wrote a history of Vestal's Four Cornors, a history of his church, The Vestal United Methodist, and severalbooks on the Leamer family historty, which began with the arrival in Philadelphia of Johannes Lehmer in 1749. Since 1975 he has written and published a biannual newsletter about the Leamers.

Larry was an active member of his church. He founded the Quester's Class and served a Lay Leader and Church Historian.

Contributions in his memory can be made to the Vestal United Methodist Church, Main Street, Vestal, or a charity of your choice.

Patricia J. Blaine
Home Health Aid

Patricia J. Blaine (nee McConnell) died on tuesday November 20th at her home in Wharton, New Jersey. She was 50 years old.

Mrs. Blaine was biorn in Morristown and grew up in Denville and lived in Mt. Tabor before moving to Wharton 25 years ago.

Mrs. Blaine had worked for the Center for Huministic Change as a Manager in a group home in the Moris County area. Mrs. Bl; aine for the last two years has been employeed at the Merry Heart Nursing Home Succasunna, NJ.

Mrs. Blaine was the United States Representative for Eurovac Foriegn Exchange Program with France.

Mrs. Blaine is survived by her husband Robert, a loving daughter Karen J. Cole odf Augusta, NJ, a devoted grandmother of Brianna J. Cole of Augusta, NJ. She is the daughter and step daughter of Nancy and John Brown of Denville, and a sister Elizabeth Rodenbaugh of Crivitz, WI.

Mrs. Blaine's services will be held on Saturday November 24th at 10AM at the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ (973)-627-1880. Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 7-9PM. Memorial donations are being accepted to the Center for Hospice Care 187 Millburn Ave., Millburn, NJ 07041 would be appreciated.

RUTH ARBO

Ruth Arbo (Nee Desjardins) died on November 24, 2001 at St. Clare's hospital in Denville, NJ. Born in Old Town, Maine, she Graduated from the University of Maine in Orono, ME in 1940 with B.S. in Home Economics. She was a wonderful seamstress, and avid reader, beloved mother & grandmother, and a dedicated keeper of family records. She lived in Morris County for 30 years.

She is survived by her children, Rose Scovill, IreneBierman, Annette Mauro, Adrian Arbo, Christine Anthony, and John Arbo. She also has 18 Grandchildren, and 2 Great Grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday November 28, at 11:00AM. Friends may visit from 10:00 - 12:00PM.

PHILOMENA T. ESPOSITO

Philomena T. Esposito (Nee Ruggiero) died on November 24, at the Andover Nursing Home in Andover, NJ. She was 89 years old.

Born in New York City she later moved to Rockaway, NJ after spending 20 years as a Teacher's Aide at The Chelsea High School in NY City. She retired in 1979.

She is survived by her son Arnold Esposito of Rockaway, NJ. Her Late husband Arnold Sr. died in 1979.

Graveside services will be held at Fairview cemetery in North Bergen, NJ on Tuesday November 27, at 10:00AM.

Mary T. Rogalsky

WHARTON – Mary T. Rogalsky died on Friday, August 15, 2008 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover. She was 78.

Born in New York City, NY she lived in Rockaway before moving to Wharton 10 years ago.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Rogalsky was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway.

She is survived by her husband John; two sons, James of Valrico, FL and Brian of Hackettstown; two brothers, Morris August of Wharton and Ernest August of Mt. Freedom; and six grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Church, Rockaway

Kenneth J. Rogalski

ROCKAWAY – Kenneth J. Rogalski died on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville after a sudden illness. He was 61.

Born in New York City, NY he lived in Denville for 10 years before moving to Rockaway in 1969.

He was a graduate of Winona State University in Minnesota in 1968, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in both mathematics and physics.

Mr. Rogalski was an IT Technician at Quest with Unisys Corp. in Lyndhurst for the past 10 years; prior to that he was a math and physics teacher at Kingsbrook Academy in Mendham for many years.

He was predeceased by his father Joseph S. in 1989.

He is survived by his mother Rose of Rockaway, his brother Theodore and his wife Eleanor of Dover, and his niece Stephanie Rogalski.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s cemetery, Rockaway. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Whitham - Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway.

Johanna Dodge

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Johanna Dodge died on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Regency Grande Nursing Home in Dover surrounded by her daughter and grandchildren. She was 82.

Born in Lansing, NY she lived in Rockaway for most of her life, residing with her daughter for the last 12 years.

Mrs. Dodge was a waitress and hostess at the Green Lantern in Dover and also at the Hearthstone Inn/Howard Johnson in Parsippany for many years.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Rockaway.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Merkle of Rockaway and her grandchildren Jason and James Sparone and Heather Merkle; her son Clifford King; and two other grandsons.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Aug. 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. only at the Whitham - Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway.
