Catherine Chevalaz

ROCKAWAY – Catherine Chevalaz died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Morris View Nursing Home in Morris Twp. She was 81.

Born in Queens, NY she moved to Rockaway in 1959.

Mrs. Chevalaz was a registered nurse and had worked at Morris View Nursing Home for many years prior to retiring.

She was formerly a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway where she participated in Bible Study, St. Cecilia’s Players, and was chairman of the Human Concerns Committee. She also was instrumental in the parish’s efforts to collect food and clothing for the needy in the local community. Mrs. Chevalaz also enjoyed contributing to the research organization AMFAR.

She was predeceased by her husband Roger in 2006, her son Gerard Chevalaz in 1996, and her son-in-law Thomas Borris in 1992.

She is survived by three children: Louise Rozik and her husband Jack, Loretta Borris, and Matthew Chevalaz all of Rockaway; a brother, Eugene Kilcommons; a sister, Maureen Kilcommons; and four cherished grandchildren: Samantha Borris, Christopher Rozik and Kayla and Daniel Chevalaz.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1 at 9: 15 a.m. from the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway, to a funeral Mass at St. Clement Pope & Martyr Church, 154 Mt. Pleasant Ave., Dover at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Cecilia’s cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: AMFAR (www.amfar.org). Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mary L. Brunner

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Mary L. Brunner, 85, died on Friday, June 10, 2011 at home.

Born in Union City, she resided in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Budd Lake before moving to Rockaway Twp. 10 years ago.

Mrs. Brunner was a real estate agent with Coral Ridge Properties in Coral Springs, FL prior to retiring.

She was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway, a member of the St. Cecilia’s Seniors club and an avid hospital volunteer with the Dover General Hospital Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her husband Theodore in 1975.

She is survived by two daughters: Lynn Wood and her husband Douglas of Rockaway Twp., and Susan Brunner of Mariposa, CA; a brother: Frank Loos and his wife Dorothy of Toms River; two grandsons: Teddy and Tom Wood; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 18 at St. Cecilia’s Church, 70 Church St., Rockaway at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Diane W. Burns

HANOVER TWP. – Diane W. Burns, 68, died suddenly on Saturday, June 4, 2011 in her garden.

Born in Hackensack, she was a longtime resident of Hanover Twp.

Mrs. Burns was a receptionist at Porzio, Bromberg & Newman law offices in Morristown for the last 15 years.

She was actively involved in the Morris County Democratic Committee.

She is survived by her life partner, Dennis Healey of Hanover Twp.; her daughter, Anneliese Wilson and her husband David of Texas; her son, Edward Burns and his wife Dr. Lisa of California; a brother, Stephen Dale; a sister, Paulette Dale; and her grandson, Colton Smith.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 9 from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway. A life celebration will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Catherine Chwat

ROCKAWAY – Catherine Chwat, 89, died on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover.

Ms. Chwat was a lifelong resident of Rockaway Boro. and worked as a Communications Specialist at Warner Lambert in Morris Plains for 35 years before her retirement in 1987.

She was a member of the Rockaway Borough Seniors and the Sokol of Boonton.

She is predeceased by her parents, August and Euphrosinia Chwat, and siblings John, Michael and Anne Chwat. She is survived by several nieces and nephews: Raymond Mahtook, his wife Kathy and their son Ryan of Youngstown, NY; Paul Mahtook, his wife Juli and their children Jessica, Michael, Jarred and Anna of Marshall’s Creek, PA; and Sandra Mahtook of Rockaway.

A funeral service will be held at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway on Monday June 6, 2011 at 10:00AM to Locust Hill cemetery, Dover. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, June 5 from 2:00 – 6:00PM only.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: Rockaway Boro. PBA Local # 268, 33 Maple Ave, Rockaway, NJ 07866, or: Rockaway Boro Fire Dept., 1 E. Main St., Rockaway, NJ 07866. Envelopes will be at the funeral home.

John Jaggers, Jr.

ROCKAWAY – John Jaggers, Jr. died on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 66.

Born in Morristown, he lived in Rockaway for the past three years.

Mr. Jaggers was a carpenter with the Carpenters Union, Local 620 of Madison before retiring in 2006.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam Era.

He is survived by his wife Ilona, and their three sons: Chris Jaggers of Montclair, Shaun Jaggers of Virginia, and Matt Jaggers of Rockaway; his two daughters: Aimee Rodriguez and Melissa Jaggers both of Florida; his sister: Cindy Kelly of Whippany; and six grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 21 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: American Lung Assn (www.lungusa.org). Envelopes will be at the funeral home.

Rose H. Rogalski

ROCKAWAY – Rose H. Rogalski died on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Morris View Nursing Home in Morris Twp. She was 98.

Born in Astoria Queens, NY, she was a longtime resident of Rockaway Borough.

Mrs. Rogalski was a homemaker and also worked as a Sales Associate at Rockaway Sales.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph in 1989 and a son, Kenneth in 2008.

She is survived by her son, Theodore Rogalski and his wife Eleanor of Dover; and a granddaughter, Stephanie.

Funeral services will be held privately from the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway.

Anna M. Gula

ROCKAWAY – Anna M. Gula died on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Morris View Nursing Home in Morris Twp. She was 93.

Born in Morris Plains, she lived in Morristown before moving to Rockaway in 1948.

Mrs. Gula was a homemaker.

She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Rockaway, and a member of the Sacred Heart Seniors and the Rockaway Borough Seniors clubs.

She was predeceased by her husband, John M. in 1988.

She is survived by three children: Barbara Whitmore of Madison, Thomas Gula of Basking Ridge and Joanne Gula of Rockaway; five brothers: Daniel, Anthony, John, Louis and Albert Lombardi; and her grandson: Daniel Whitmore.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 9: 15 a.m. from the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway to a funeral Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Rood cemetery in Morristown. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Leona Polichemi

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Leona Polichemi died on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville. She was 80.

Born in Jersey City, she lived in Parsippany before moving to Rockaway Twp. 11 years ago.

Mrs. Polichemi was an administrative assistant at the Hanover Twp. Board of Education for 10 years before retiring in 1996.

She was a member of the Green Pond Bible Chapel.

She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony in 2009.

She is survived by two daughters: Janet Ball and her husband Robert, and Angela Bardt and her husband Michael all of Rockaway Twp.; her son: Anthony Polichemi and his wife Deborah of Syracuse, NY; her sister: Phyllis Zaccone of Spring Hill, FL; and four grandchildren: Jessica Stanchak and her husband Scott, Robert Ball, and Anthony and Alexis Polichemi.

Arrangements were private.

Mary Kentos

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Mary Kentos died on Monday, May 2, 2011 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover. She was 95.

Born in Whippany, she lived in the Marcella section of Rockaway Twp. for over 70 years.

Mrs. Kentos was a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her husband Albert, and her son Albert Jr.

She is survived by three daughters: Mary Ann Marston, Barbara Kolvites and Katherine Barlak; her son, John Kentos; brother, Anthony Matonak; sister, Helen; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were private.

Katherine Pasecznyk

ROCKAWAY – Katherine Pasecznyk died on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Regency Grande Nursing Home in Dover. She was 85.

Born and raised in Rockaway, she lived in Maplewood before returning to Rockaway.

Mrs. Pasecznyk was a receptionist at Dover Christian Nursing Home for 10 years prior to retiring in 1996.

She was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church, Rockaway and a member of the Maplewood Service League and the Bridge Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen DeJohn of Springfield; her son, Michael Pasecznyk of Fishtail, MT; three grandchildren: Melinda Gleaves of Florham Park, Adam DeJohn of Langhorne, PA and Christopher Pasecznyk of Fishtail, MT; and two great-granddaughters: Ava and Alexis Gleaves.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Church, Rockaway. Interment will follow at St. Cecilia’s cemetery.
