Carol Crist, 89, teacher and volunteer
PLAINFIELD -- Carol Beardsley Crist died April 2, 2004, in Muhlenberg Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Crist was born 89 years ago in Derby, Conn., and moved to Plainfield at the age of 9. While Carol and her husband, Buckley, lived in three other states, Plainfield was the hometown to which she returned and resided for most for the past four decades.
Following graduation from the Hartridge School, she attended Wheelock College and Finch College before earning a B.A. in education from Ball State University.
Carol's professional career revolved around primary education; she taught at the Finch School in New York City, N.Y., at the Plainfield Day Nursery and at the Vangard School in Paoli, Pa.
Carol Crist's volunteer work was an equally significant part of her life. In Plainfield, she was active in the Junior League, the Muhlenberg Hospital Auxiliary, the Plainfield Symphony Auxiliary, the United Family and Children's Society (board member), the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church (elder) and the King's Daughters Day School (board president). She also worked with the young and the disadvantaged in Birmingham, Ala., Muncie, Ind., Philadelphia and Doylestown, Pa.
Mrs. Crist is survived by her son, Buckley Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Wilmette, Ill.; and grandchildren, Alison Crist of Chicago, Ill., Harris Crist and wife, Elizabeth, of Austin, Texas, and Holly Kelly and husband, Mark, of Seattle, Wash.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in the name of Carol B. Crist may be made to either the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, 716 Watchung Ave., Plainfield, NJ 07060 or the King;s Daughters Day School, 502 West Front St., Plainfield, NJ 07060.

Deborah Johnson, 75, retired nurse
PLAINFIELD -- Deborah Madeline (Brown) Johnson, 75, died Thursday (April 15, 2004) at 7:30 p.m.
Born in Fanwood, she formerly resided in Westfield before moving to Plainfield 21 years ago.
She was a graduate of the Fanwood School System.
She was a nurse for Veterans Hospital in Lyons for 15 years before retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church in Fanwood.
She was predeceased by a son, Ronald Johnson.
Surviving are her husband, Arthur Johnson; four children, Thomas Brown, Alan Johnson, Evelyn Johnson and Saladin A. Al-Karim; 11 grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews; and five cousins.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. tonight at St. Luke's AME Church, Downer St., Westfield. Disposition will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Linden.

Margaret Hogan, 93, beloved mother, grandmother
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine -- Margaret Hogan, 93, of South Portland, Maine, died Monday (April 12, 2004) at Maine Medical Center, Portland.
She was born Margaret May on April 20, 1910, in Jersey City, the eight of nine children born to Joseph and Charlotte May. Between 1914 and 1918, her family lived on a farm in Toms River. After her father's death, the family returned to Jersey City, where she was educated in the city's public school system, graduating from Dickinson High School in the 1920s.
She married Lawrence J. Hogan of Jersey City on June 7, 1930. She lived much of her adult life in Plainfield, where she and her husband raised their three children.
She worked for Tepper's Department Store in Plainfield and later for National State Bank in Plainfield and Linden, from which she retired in 1975.
In her retirement, she lived in Ocean Township and Piscataway before moving to Maine in 1997. While living in Maine, she enjoyed treating her family to lunch at the Lobster Shack and Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Lawrence, in 1987 and by her parents and eight siblings.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and John McGrath of Hopatcong and Patricia and Gilbert Cross of Portland, Maine; a son and daughter-in-law, Laurence D. and Judith Hogan of Lake Worth, Fla.; nine grandchildren, David, Daniel, Dennis McGrath, Maureen Anzalone, Aileen Miller, Timothy Cross, Caitlin Ram, Brendan Hogan and Kathryn Downey; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen, and will be followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Piscataway. Interment will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.

Maria T. Carter, 50, computer technician
PLAINFIELD -- Maria Y. Carter, 50, died Friday (April 16, 2004) in Claymont, Del.
Born in Long Branch, she formerly resided in East Orange before moving to Plainfield.
She was a computer technician, working for Schering-Plough Pharmaceutical Corp., Bloomfield and Kenilworth.
She was predeceased by her father, Frederick D. Carter, in 1995.
She is survived by her mother, Aletha Carter of Claymont, Del.; two sisters, Evelyn Horton of Export, Pa., and Patricia Ann Carter of Plainfield; and a brother, F. David Carter of Mesa, Ariz.
Funeral services will be noon Tuesday at Judkins Colonial Home, Plainfield.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Marion A. Krajewski, lived in South Plainfield
UNION BEACH -- Marion A. Krajewski 77, a homemaker, died Sunday (April 18, 1999) at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel.
She was born in Lyndhurst and had lived in South Plainfield before moving to Union Beach five years ago.
She was a former member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Plainfield and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church Seniors in Piscataway.
Her husband, Edward M. Krajewski died in 1992.
Surviving are a son, Douglas E. Krajewski of Union Beach; four sisters, Rosemary Esposito of Atworth, Ga., Frances Kuzmiak of Lyndhurst, Lorraine Eberling of Lyndenhurst, N.Y., and Theresa Sherry of New Hampshire; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann`s Roman Catholic Church in Keansburg, arranged by Day Funeral Home in Keyport. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

LILLIAN REICK, AGE 83, SOUTH AMBOY
Lillian Armstrong Reick died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center, South Amboy. She was 83.
She was born in South River and lived in South Amboy for the past 55 years.
She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the South Amboy Boat Club.
A daughter, Patricia Kozak, died in 1987.
Surviving are her husband, George J. Sr.; three sons, George Jr. of Birmingham, Ala., Theodore of Hazlet and Councilman James Reick of South Amboy; a daughter, Judy Nacarlo of Bricktown; a sister, Doris Geer of Gloversville, N.Y., 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kurzawa Funeral Home, 338 Main St., South Amboy, followed by burial at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy.

JULIUS MESZAROS, AGE 80, PERTH AMBOY
Julius Meszaros died yesterday at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division. He was 80.
He was a lifelong resident of Perth Amboy.
He worked for Dutch Boy Paints for more than 35 years before retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Our Lady of Hungary R.C. Church, Perth Amboy.
He was an avid sports fan.
His wife, the former Margaret Siska, died in 1991.
Surviving are a brother, Michael of Perth Amboy; a niece, Theresa Kelemen of Stratford, Conn., and several other nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at Mitruska Funeral Home, 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords section of Woodbridge, followed by a 9:15 a.m. Mass at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, Perth Amboy. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery, Fords.

FRANK LIZANETZ, AGE 72, PERTH AMBOY
Frank Lizanetz died Sunday at Perth Amboy Hospital. He was 72.
He was born in Perth Amboy and lived there for his entire life.
He worked for Woodbridge Sanitary Pottery for 20 years before retiring in 1989.
He served with the 33rd Army Infantry as a light-machine gunner during World War II in the European Theater.
His wife, the former Helen Wingler, died in 1985.
A brother, Michael, died in 1990.
Surviving are five brothers, John of the Morgan section of Sayreville, Charles of Perth Amboy, George of Florida, Alex of Arizona and Peter of Nevada, and five sisters, Irene Barbara Tobin of the Parlin section of Sayreville, Helen Walsh of Nevada, Mary Koper of California, Ann Ginda of Rahway and Margaret Gelato of Edison.
Private cremation took place under the direction of Funeral Services of New Jersey, Inc., Hillside.
