John Herman Martin

John Herman Martin, 65, of Rogersville, Tenn. died March 26 at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in New York, N.Y., he was a resident of Hawkins since 1995.

Mr. Martin was self employed in the construction industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Louisa Nagora Martin; one sister, Joan Martin, and two brothers, Richard and Ted Martin.

Survivors include two daughters, Louisa Martin Bryan and husband, Frank of Rogersville, Loretta Cranmer and husband, Curtis of Fla.; two sons, Jim Smith of New Jersey and Steve Martin of Fla.; five sisters, Louise, Betty Lou, Josephine, Georgiann and Lorraine; seven brothers, Tom, Bob, Joe, Henry, Charles, Eddie and Billy; one sister-in-law, Karen Peterson; eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Jimmy, Kelly, Kevin, Jim, Jesse, Misty and Jo Kelley and one great- granddaughter, Jasmine.

A funeral service will be announced at a later date.

Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.

Peter P. Tamburri

Peter P. Tamburri, 94, Barnegat, died March 25, at Southern Ocean Center, Manahawkin.

Mr. Tamburri was born in Jersey City and lived in North Bergen before moving to Barnegat in 1973.

Mr. Tamburri was a member of the Wright Memorial Presbyterian Church, Barnegat, a life member of the BPOE 1320, Manahawkin, and a member of the Prime Timers, Barnegat. He was a plant engineer for Imperial Oil of Morganville and retired in 1987 after many years of service.

He was predeceased by his first wife Frances, in 1994; one daughter, Dolores Tamburri, in 1972; and one granddaughter, Tina Tamburri, in 1994.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley L. Tamburri (Shrum); one son, Peter P. Jr., New York; three daughters, Marguerite Tamburri, New York, Virginia Tamburri, New Jersey, and Louise Marcella, Connecticut; and one sister, Christine Andrews, Belle Mead. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 Route 9 North, Forked River. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. April 25 at the Wright memorial Presbyterian Church, Route 9, Barnegat.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Tamburri's memory can be made to the Wright Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 101, Barnegat, NJ 08005 or to the Barnegat Animal Clinic, 530 North Main St., Barnegat, NJ 08005.

Martin McCann

Martin McCann, 84, Beach Haven, died March 27, at his home.

Mr. McCann was born in Jersey City and lived in Beach Haven for 38 years. Since 1983 he spent six months of the year in Singer Island, Fla.

He was an iron worker working for Local 399 for 46 years retiring in 1982.

He was an Army Veteran of World War II, and a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Brant Beach.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude, in 1993.

Surviving are one son, Richard King of Lyndhurst; and one daughter, Maureen Taylor, Manassas, Va.. Also surviving are six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was held March 30, at St. Thomas of Villanova Roman Catholic Church, Surf City. Interment was in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, Manahawkin. Relatives and friends called Monday at the Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, Ship Bottom.

Esther M. Graham-Goman

Esther M. Grahm-Goman, 86, Little Egg Harbor, passed away March 24 at Seacrest Village Nursing Home.

Born in Deer Township, Minn., she resided in Tuckerton for many years prior to moving to Duluth, Minn. She returned to this area in 1999.

Mrs. Graham-Goman was in fellowship with Wright Memorial Presbyterian Church in Barnegat. She was a former member of the Tuckerton First Aid Squad, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Tuckerton Volunteer Fire Company and a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are her dear companion and former husband, Karl Graham of Tuckerton; her son, Neil Graham of Indianapolis, Ind.; two daughters, Sandra Godfrey Butz of Little Egg Harbor and Teresa Gray Lewis of Barnegat; two brothers, John Nordenstam of Duluth, Minn. and Leroy Nordenstam of Westminster, Calif.; one sister, Ruth Shannon of British Columbia; four grandchildren, Troy and Trent Godfrey, John and Michael Gray, and three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Adam and Sarah Godfrey.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Violet Nordenstam and Jennie Moyer.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., May 2, at Wright Memorial Presbyterian Church, South Main Street, Barnegat. Burial is private.

Memorial donations may be made to the church's building fund. Services were entrusted to Maxwell Funeral Home, Little Egg Harbor.

Robert E. Haas

Robert E. Haas, 78, formerly of Tuckerton, died March 27 in Martin Memorial Hospital South, in Fla.

Born in Wausau, Ohio, he lived in Stuart, Fla., for 11 years, residing in Tuckerton prior to that.

Before retirement he was a mechanic for New Jersey Transit and a sergeant for the New Jersey State Police Troop A. (Badge 1505) and the police chief for the Borough of Tuckerton.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include seven children, Vincent Haas of Toms River, Ella Jean Chubner of Deerfield, Mich., Sally Bourguignon of New Gretna, Josephine Trocchio of Lakewood, Robert Haas of Lanoka Harbor, Bernadette Maresca of Absecon and Robert Pharo of Tuckerton; one sister, Dorlene Cozzens of Stuart, Fla.; two brothers, James Hass of Maumee, Ohio, and John Hass of Pioneer, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wives, Catherine, Evelyn and Jean Ann; his brother, Jack; two sisters, Betty and Jorlene; his mother, Jone, and father John Paul.

Memorial services will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Road, Little Egg Harbor, where friends and relatives may gather starting at 2 p.m. Private burial will be in the New Jersey State Policemen's Cemetery, Trenton. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Popcorn Park Zoo, Forked River.

Anna Beutel, ex-factory worker dies at age 61

UNION BEACH - Services were conducted Friday for Anna Beutel, 61, of 326 Front St., who died Dec. 25, 1979 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.

Born in Ocean Grove and formerly of Newark, Mrs. Beutel lived in Union Beach for 25 years.

She retired in 1964 as a factory worker with the Salmon Paper Box Co., Matawan.

Surviving are her husband, Frederick; two sons, James of W. Deptford, and Glenn, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Caroline Smith of Keyport; a brother, Jack Coyle of Metuchen; and six grandchildren.

Mass recited at St. Joseph's for Frances Votta

ABERDEEN - A mass was said Saturday at St. Joseph's Church, Keyport, for Frances Votta, 65, of Cliffwood Avenue, Cliffwood, who died Dec. 25, 1979 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.

Mrs. Votta was born in S. Amboy and moved to Cliffwood several years ago.

Surviving are her husband, Michael; two sons, Michael of Oakhill, Calif., and William of Aberdeen; two brothers, Frank Roginski of Sayreville, and Joseph Roginski of S. Amboy; a sister, Mrs. Helen Bulla of S. Amboy; 11 grandchildren; and three'great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sayreville.

Mildred Rowland, 40 year resident, dies at age 76

MIDDLETOWN - Services were held Dec. 26, 1979 for Mildred Rowland, 76, of Daniel Towers, who died that day at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank.

Born in Pearl River, N.Y., Mrs. Rowland lived in the township 40 years.

She was a member of the township Senior Citizens Group and a past matron of Chapter 946 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Pearl River.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lois Thornton of Middletown; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Cremation was at Rose Hill Crematory, Linden.

Services conducted for Ross Berry, retired truck driver

KEANSBURG - Services were conducted Friday for Ross Berry, 74, of 35 Shore Blvd., who died Dec. 24, 1979 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

Born in Livingston and formerly of Harrison. Mr. Berry moved to Keansburg 20 years ago.

He retired in 1969 after 22 years as a truck driver with P. Ballantine & Son, Newark.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; two sons, Ross Jr. of Dover, Del., and Ross III of Keyport; two daughters, Mrs. Julia Wood of Kearny, and Mrs. Frances Scandurra of Texas; 27 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens. Hazlet.

Mass recited at St. Catherine's for Mary Martin

MIDDLETOWN - A mass was said Saturday at St. Catherine's Church, E. Keansburg, for Mary Martin, 72, of 37 Alberta Ave., who died Dec. 26, 1979 at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank.

Mrs. Martin lived in Jersey City before moving to Middletown in 1956.

She was a communicant of St. Catherine's Church.

Her husband, Michael, died in 1966.

Mrs. Martin is survived by a son. Michael of Middletown, a daughter, Maureen Quinn of Sayreville; a brother. William Mackenzie of Jersey City; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Tiedemann of Union Beach and Mrs. Grace Scott of the township, and two grandchildren.

Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery. N. Arlington.

Arrangements were under the direction of the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home.

Mary Cartan, phone pioneer, dies at age 73

A mass was said Thursday at St. Joseph's Church, Keyport, for Mary Cartan, 73, of 99 Main St.. who died Dec. 24, 1979 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.

A New York City native, Mrs. Cartan lived in Matawan for 50 years.

A telephone operator and supervisor with New Jersey-Bell Telephone Co. for 24 years, she retired in 1961.

Mrs. Cartan was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, H.G. McKully chapter, Newark.

She belonged to the American Assn. for Retired Persons, the Confraternity of Rosary Societies, Somerset, Ohio, and St. Joseph's Church.

Surviving are her husband, Jean; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Louise Emerson of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Stacia Erickson of New York; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Burial was at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Keyport.

C. Schloeder dies at age 80; services held

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS - Services were held Thursday for Cecilia Schloeder, 80, of 17 E. Garfield Ave., who died Dec. 23, 1979 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

Born in New York City and formerly of Hollywood, Fla., Miss Schloeder moved to Atlantic Highlands seven years ago.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a brother, William of Atlantic Highlands, three nieces, and four nephews.

Miss Schloeder was buried at Bayview Cemetery, Leonardo.

Dorothy Miles dies af age 59; services held

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS - Services were held Dec. 26, 1979 for Dorothy Miles, 59, of 33 First Ave., who died Dec. 22, 1979 at the Texas Medical Center, Methodist Hospital, Houston.

Born in Newark, Mrs. Miles lived in Kearny before moving to Atlantic Highlands 25 years ago.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph; a son, Cyril Metzinger of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Suzanna Lang of Atlantic Highlands; her mother, Mrs. Violet Stevens of Atlantic Highlands; a brother, Thomas Stevens of Spring Lake Heights; a sister, Mrs. Helen Wehrele of Irvington; and three grandchildren.

Burial was at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Spring Lake Heights.

Services held for G. Brand, refired clerk

HAZLET - Services were held Thursday for George Brand, 67, of 188 Golden Lane, who died Dec. 25, 1979 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.

Mr. Brand was born in Kearny and lived in N. Arlington before moving to the township four years ago.

He retired in 1974 after 43 years as correspondence clerk with the Prudential Insurance Co., Willowbrook.

An Army Air Force veteran of World War II, Mr. Brand was a charter member of the VFW Post 4697, N. Arlington.

He was a charter member and past Exalted Ruler of the BPO Elks No. 1992, N. Arlington.

Surviving are his wife, Muriel; and two brothers, Leonard of Kearny and Harold of Howell.

Burial was at Forest Green Cemetery, Marlboro.

Lucy Seruby dies at age 98; services held at Quinn Chapel

MIDDLETOWN - Services were held Dec. 24 at the Quinn AME Chapel, Atlantic Highlands, for Lucy Seruby, 98, of 111 Leonardville Rd., Leonardo, who died Dec. 20, 1979 at the Atlantic Highlands Nursing Home.

Born in Cumberland County, Va., Mrs. Seruby lived in Atlantic Highlands for 70 years.

She was a member of the Quinn AME Chapel.

Her husband, William, died in 1969.

Surviving are four sons, Norman Warrick of New York, Earl of Los Angeles, Melvin of Red Bank, and George of Paterson; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Gaiter of Tallahassee, Fla., and Lucille of the township; a sister, Mrs. Jannie Abrams of New York; a brother, Aaron Hunter of New York; 14 grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren.

Burial was at Crystal Stream Cemetery, Navesink.

The James H. Hunt Funeral Home, Asbury Park, was in charge of arrangements.

Jacob Klein retired printer, dies at age 69

HAZLET - Services were held Friday for Jacob Klein, 69, of 29 Compton Ave., W. Keansburg, who died Dec. 23, 1979 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.

Born in Jersey City, Mr. Klein moved to this area 30 years ago.

He retired in 1971 as a printer with the Colgate-Palmolive Co., Jersey City.

His wife, Katherine, died in 1970.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Eileen Ruehle and Marie Wagner, both of Hazlet; three sisters, Anna Badenhop of Irvington and Bertha Klein and Mary Leahay, both of Edison; and three grandchildren.

Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

N. Rathbone, garage owner, dies at age 81

HAZLET - Services were conducted Friday for Norman Rathbone Sr., a retired garage owner who died Dec. 24, 1979 at the Garden State Manor Nursing Home, Holmdel.

Mr. Rathbone, 81, lived at 597 Holmdel Rd. He was born in New York and lived in the township for 50 years.

Before he retired, Mr. Rathbone owned Rathbone's Garage, Route 35, for 40 years.

He was a 50-year member of the Hazlet Fire Co. and a 50-year member of Caesarea Lodge 64, F&AM, Keyport.

His wife, Jeanette, died in 1948.

Surviving are a, son, Norman and a daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Barnes, both of Hazlet; a brother, Thomas of Keyport; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
