Robert G. Le Frois
Born: 04/09/1924 - Died: 07/22/2007
Robert G. Le Frois age 83 of Newton, NJ died Sunday July 22, 2007 at the Forrest Manor N.H. in Frelinghuysen Twp., NJ. Born in Rochester, NY, Robert grew up in Fairport, NY where he graduated from the Fairport HS Class of 1942. Later, Mr. Le Frois resided in Kansas City and for many years in Medina, NY before moving to Newton in 2003. Son of the late Clarence and Marion (Stocking) Le Frois, Robert served in the US Coast Guard during WWII. After the War, he began working as a Technician with Bell Helicopters Kansas, and later formed his own Television Repair Company Le Frois TV in Medina, NY where he worked until his retirement in 1988. A devout parishioner of the St, Mary’s RC Church in Medina, as well as the St. Joseph RC Church in Newton, Robert was also a third degree Knights of Columbus in the Council #651 Medina, NY. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1483 Medina, NY as well as an avid Golfer. Pre deceased by a son John Thomas in 1963, his first wife Arlene M. (Bacon) in 1983, and his second wife Gladys (Saj) in 1997, as well as two brothers 1st Lieut. USMC Donald A. 1942, and Peter in 2006. Survivors include his five sons Michael D. of Lawrenceville, GA, Gregory A. of Newton, NJ, Jeffrey J., of Verona, NY, Christopher P. of Lincoln, NE and David J. of Gainesville, GA. Also survived by his brother Richard of Peachtree, GA as well as his twelve grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday July 25th, 2007 at 12:00 PM in the St. Joseph RC Church Halstead St. Newton, NJ. Interment will follow on Saturday July 28th at 11:00 AM in the St. Mary’s RC Church Cemetery Medina, NY. Memorial Visitation will be held Tuesday July 24th, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street, Newton, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus Don Bosco Council 7784 PO Box 52 Newton, NJ 07860-0052.

Robert Dennis Gorman
Born: 04/25/1945 - Died: 07/05/2007
Gorman, Robert Dennis age 62 of Byram Twp., NJ died Thursday July 5th following a long illness. Born and raised in Jersey City, he had also lived in Madison and Montville before moving to Byram Twp. thirty two years ago. Son of the late Harold and Cecilia (Spaeth) Gorman, Robert graduated from the St. Peters Preparatory School in Jersey City. He later was graduated from the St. Peters College receiving his BA in Economics. Robert attended Graduate school at the NYU Sterns School of Business where he earned his MBA in Corporate Finance, as well as becoming a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Gorman was working as a Financial Manager with the United States Attorneys Office in Newark, NJ. Robert had served in the National Guard in San Francisco, CA from 1965 to 1971. A devoted parishioner of the Blessed Kateri RC Church Sparta, Robert enjoyed and had traveled extensively. At home, Mr. Gorman enjoyed his time with his family as well as home improvements and gardening. Robert will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife of thirty nine years Dorothy A. (Hoyt), his four sons David M. of Byram Twp., Jeffrey A. of Jersey City, Jared E. and Joshua E. both of Austin, TX. Also survived by his many cousins. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday July 7th, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. in the Blessed Kateri RC Church #427 Stanhope Rd. Sparta, NJ. Interment will be private. Visitation will be held Friday July 6th from 5 to 9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street, Newton, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Center of Hope Hospice #99 Sparta Ave. Newton, NJ 07860.

Elizabeth L. Roman
Born: 08/13/1947 - Died: 07/02/2007
Roman, Elizabeth L. age 59 of Fredon Twp., NJ died Monday July 2nd, at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY following a long illness. Born in New York, NY Elizabeth had resided in Orange County, NY for many years, moving to Fredon Twp., in 1995. A Human Resources Director for BASF in Florham Park, NJ, Mrs. Roman was recently retired. She also served as a volunteer with the St. Joseph RC Church Thrift Shop. An avid gardener, Elizabeth also enjoyed reading and time spent with her family. Pre deceased by her father Herbert Moreno, she is survived by her husband of thirty seven years Jose Roman. Also her son Joseph D. of Boston, MA as well as her daughter Jessica A. Roman of Cazadero, CA. Also surviving are her mother Maria Hernandez of Cape Coral, FL, her sisters Santa M. Rivera and Alice Armstrong, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday July 6th, 2007 at 1:00 PM in the St. Joseph RC Church Halstead St. Newton, NJ. Interment will follow in the Good Shepherd RC Church Cemetery Andover, NJ. Visitation will be held Thursday July 5th, 2007 from 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street, Newton, NJ.

Joyce D. Phlegar
Born: 08/29/1930 - Died: 07/01/2007
Phlegar, Joyce D. age 76 of Newton, NJ died Sunday July 1, 2007 in Denville, NJ. Born in Sussex, Joyce was a lifelong resident of Newton. Daughter of the late Frank and Bessie (Elliott) DeLucca, Joyce was a graduate of the Newton High School class of 1948. Mrs. Phlegar was a devout and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Newton, where she served as a member of the United Presbyterian Women, and taught Sunday school for over fifty years. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sibling and friend to all who knew her, she had served many years as a Girl Scout Troop leader in Newton, as well as a member of the Newton Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Phlegar cherished her time with her family and also enjoyed reading and knitting. Pre deceased by her brother Donald DeLucca in March of this year, she is survived by her husband of fifty five years John “Jack Sr. Also survived by her sons Jack and Jeffrey of Stillwater, and Jay of Hampton Twp., her daughters Joya Zimmerman of E. Stroudsburg, PA and Joann Caffrey of Newton. Mrs. Phlegar is also survived by her sixteen beloved grandchildren and her three nieces. Funeral services will be held Thursday July 5th at 10:00 AM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street, Newton, NJ. Interment will follow in the Bevans Cemetery (Peters Valley Cemetery) Layton, NJ. Visitation will be held Wednesday July 4th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Newton Sunday School Fund #54 High St. Newton, NJ 07860.

Herbert C. Bensley
Born: 08/03/1948 - Died: 07/01/2007
Bensley, Herbert C. age 58 of Newton, NJ died Sunday July 1st, 2007 in Newton, NJ following a long illness. Born in Newton, Herbert was a lifelong resident. Son of the late Raymond and Frances (Little) Bensley, Herbert served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where he received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in action. Mr. Bensley was a lifetime member of the Newton VFW Post 5360. Pre deceased by two brothers Dean A. and Roger Bensley, Herbert is survived by his five sisters Patricia and spouse Richard Worth of Newton, June and spouse Joseph Boyer of Hampton Twp., Bonnie Strickler of Newton, Janet and spouse Thomas Snyder of Palmerton, PA and Cathy Bensley of Newton. Also his two brothers Robert and spouse Harriet of Lafayette, and Gary and spouse Jerilyn of Strasburg, PA. Also surviving are his many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are private and under the direction of the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street, Newton, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Newton Rescue Squad PO Box 5 Newton, NJ 07860-0005.

Margaret R. "Peggy" Conrads
Conrads, Margaret R. “Peggy” age 63 of Hudson, FL and Andover Borough; NJ died Tuesday June 19th, 2007 in New Port Richey, FL following a brief illness. Born in Newton, she had resided most of her life in Andover Borough before moving to Florida in 1994. Daughter of the late Charles and Jane (Stang) Cornine, Margaret was a 1962 graduate of the Newton High School. She had worked as a Bus Driver and Office Manager for twenty seven years for the former Black Bus Co., in Andover, NJ. Peggy was an active member and past Chief of the Lakeland First Aid Squad in Andover for many years. After retirement, Mrs. Conrads worked as a Cashier for the Hudson Fl., McDonalds, and more recently as a Motor Home driver for the Harberson RV Center in Pasco, FL. A parishioner of the St. Joseph RC Church Newton Peggy was an avid Bowler, and she also enjoyed Bingo, sewing and anything craft related. Survivors include her husband of forty five years Alfred “Al”, her son Edward C. and spouse Dana Conrads of Andover, her daughter Theresa L. and spouse Robert Stank, of Cranbury Lake Byram, NJ. Also survived by her brother Charles Cornine Jr., of Pond Eddy, NY and her sisters Ella May Walker, of Fredon, NJ and Catherine Brown of Warrior, AL. Margaret is also survived by her five grandsons Ed Jr., Tyler, and Brett Conrads, Robby and Michael Stank. Funeral service will be held Monday June 25, 2007 at 9:30 A.M., in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street, Newton, NJ. Interment will follow in the Andover Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday June 24th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials to either the Lakeland First Aid Squad PO Box 311 Andover, NJ 07821 or the Hernando Pasco Hospice #12029 Majestic Blvd., Suite #1 Hudson, FL 34667.

Virgil Catalano
Catalano, Virgil died at Newton Memorial Hospital on Thursday, June 14, 2007, at age 78. Beloved husband of Rita B. (Siedman) Catalano, and the brother of Antoinette “Ann” DiDomenico, and her husband James DiDomenico. He was predeceased by his father, Michaele Catalano and his mother, Raffaela Pepe . Mr. Catalano was born in Brooklyn, NY, where he lived and worked for many years. He summered in Sparta, NJ before his retirement and then became a permanent resident. Four years ago he moved to Newton, NJ. He attended St. John’s University, Brooklyn, NY and received his Doctor of Law in 1950. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In 1955, Mr.Catalano became a partner in the law firm of Puglia & Catalano, Brooklyn, NY, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the New York Bar Association. Virgil was a chef quality cook. He also liked to travel to see new places and meet new people. A memorial service is planned for Monday June 25, 2007 at 11:00 A.M., under the direction of the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street, Newton, NJ.

Richard Wask
Wask, Richard age 97 of Hampton Twp., NJ died Friday June 8th, 2007 at the Newton Memorial Hospital. Born in Warsaw Poland, Richard came to the United States as a young boy, and grew up in Cliffside Park. Mr. Wask also resided in Passaic, and in Rutherford for twenty six years before moving to Hampton Twp., in 1974. Husband of the late Mae (Burnat) Wask 1982, Richard had worked for many years as a Machinist for the former Tenneco Chemical Co., in Garfield, NJ until his retirement in 1974. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed time with his family as well as cooking. Survivors include his son Raymond and spouse Arlene of Spring Hill, FL, his daughter Helena “Lee” Wask, of Hampton Twp., his three grandchildren Richard, Gregory and Alicia Wask, as well as his great granddaughter Lacey Wask. Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 12th, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ. Entombment will follow in the St. Nicholas Cemetery Lodi, NJ. Visitation will be Tuesday at the Funeral Home one hour prior to the funeral.

Ruth E. Caruso
Ruth E. Caruso, died Monday, May 21st, 2007 at age 93 in Bristol Glen Newton, NJ. Mrs. Caruso was born in Washington, Connecticut, later moving to Hendersonville, NC and then in 1998 moved to Newton NJ. Daughter of the late Hans and Hulda (Freiberg) Turngren. Employed as a hairdresser at the John Lupo Salon in the Bronx NY, Mrs. Caruso was an accomplished artist and served as Past President of the Art Guild in Deal NJ. Ruth traveled many places throughout the world. She also was noted for her gardening skills. The beloved wife of Frank Caruso of Bristol Glen Newton, NJ and dear aunt of Carmela Turngren of Rockaway Twp., NJ. Funeral Arrangements are private and under the direction of the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ

Bertha Grodsky
Bertha Pinkofsky Grodsky, 97, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007. She was the beloved wife of the late Barney; dear mother of Peter (Ellin) and the late Dr. Leonard (Sheila) Grodsky; grandmother of David (Karen), Robert (Donna), Daniel (Susan), Marc (Cathy), Stefanie Lesnik (Jonathan), and Jonathan Grodsky; and loving great-grandmother of nine. She was the devoted sister of Ada P. Rosen and the late Mary P. Marcus; and an adored aunt and great-aunt.
Graveside funeral services were held on Sunday, May 20 at noon in the Sons of Israel Cemetery. Jewish Center of Sussex County Section, Hardyston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the NCJW New York Section, 820 Second Ave., New York, N.Y. 10017. Arrangements were by the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main St. (Route 206), Newton.

Gerda Welz
Gerda Welz, age 80 of Hackettstown, NJ died Sunday May 4th, 2007 at the Hackettstown Community Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Halberstadt Germany, she grew up and resided there until coming to the United States in 1957. Settling in the Bronx, NY she lived there many yeas before purchasing a home in Fishkill, NY in 1980. In 2003 Gerda relocated to Hackettstown, NJ to be closer to her family. Daughter of the late Elizabeth Grutzner, Mrs. Welz was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. After her children were grown, she began working as a purchaser with the American Greeting and Gibson Card Companies. She had been a parishioner of the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fishkill, NY, and enjoyed baking, gardening and entertaining family and friends.Pre deceased by her husband Alois in 1999 just one year after becoming American Citizens, Gerda is survived by her son Werner of Poughkeepsie, NY, her daughters Heidi Hunter of Highland, NY and Carol Vitiello of Green Twp., NJ. Also survived by her brother Fred Kraft of the Bronx, NY as well as her six grandchildren Tanya, Michael, Renee, Danielle, Jessica and Michael. Also her four great grandchildren Nicholas, Amanda, Gabriella and Eli. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday “Memorial Day” May 28th, 2007 at 10:00 AM in the Our Lady of the Lake RC Church Sparta, NJ. Visitation will be held Saturday May 12th, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home 156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ.

Ekaterini Kathy Hatzinas Coleman
Born: 08/26/1975 - Died: 11/22/2007
Coleman, Ekaterini Kathy Hatzinas age 32 of Fredon Twp., died Thursday November 22nd at the Columbia University Medical Center New York, NY. Bon in Athens Greece, Kathy came to the United States as a young girl, grew up and had lived in Newton most of her life. She had moved to Fredon Twp. one year ago. A graduate of the Newton High School class of 1993, Kathy later graduated from the Rutgers University receiving her Bachelors degree in Social Work. Mrs. Hatzinas Coleman later was graduated from the Montclair University Graduate program receiving her Masters degree in Education. Kathy was currently working as a Substance Abuse Counselor for NCADD of Clifton, NJ. A member of the St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church in Randolph, Kathy was the Vice President of Thalassemia Action Group as well as a member of the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation and an active member of CASA. Survivors include her husband Aaron Coleman, her parents Spyros and Roula Hatzinas of Andover Twp., as well as her brothers Tommy Hatzinas of Frankford Twp., and George Hatzinas of Andover Twp. Funeral Services will be held Monday November 26, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church #1447 Sussex Tpk. Randolph, NJ. Interment will follow in the Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday Nov. 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home in Newton. In lieu of flowers memorials to the TAG #129-09 26th Ave. Flushing, NY 11354
